I've been surprised at the somewhat low views on some of these Wacken performances, but 50K is pretty low, especially for a band like Opeth. Granted, the length is probably a big part of that...but still. What an amazing performance too.
Check out Ayreon. he/they use hammond organs a lot. The song The Theory of Everything (Part 1) for example, explore the albums The Source and Into the Electric Castle if you will after!

They should have two drumsets on shows. One for their new shit and one for the good heavy stuff. That proggy 70's sound doesn't go with their real sound, or what it was their sound...
Juan De Jesus you are funny, did you check your ears or something? *damnation record*, to BID your farewell, benighted, atonement, burden, harvest, hex omega, porcelain heart, credence, the throat of winter etc etc... are they heavy? are those songs "death metal"? nop... are those songs writing in the 70's style? =yes opeth is all about freedom and the use of others types of music. This band is for open minded people and not for metalheads.
I'm a musician/producer, not a metalhead. I know what i'm talking about. Their heavy stuff (like i wrote before) doesn't sound good with that sound right there. That's simple listening. Are heir apparent, the grand conjuration & deliverance heavy songs? Yes, and they played em' right here on this video. None of the songs you said are on this video. Not even their new stuff is played on this video.
Just because you are a musician/ producer, does not mean you are right. Your opinion does not equal fact, in any way shape or form. I personally quite like tone of the drum kit in this video. The snare has a delightful crack, and the cymbals cut through nicely, without being overbearing or harsh. And by your logic, as a musician, who plays in a progressive/ technical death metal band, who also almost exclusively listens to both extreme metal, and progressive rock, I also know what I'm talking about. That said, the whole, "because I am this bullshit means I know what I'm talking about" is complete shit, as at the end of the sound, sound/ tone is completely perspective and one's opinion is just that. It is an opinion and not a statement of fact.
Great performance overall but the only drawback was Mikael's vocals. It's clear all the cigarettes he smoked over the years have come back to haunt him.
actually it's not the cigs as much as it was a change on how he approached his vocals, due to getting an in ear monitor. plus at an old age it becomes alot harder to use your full vocal folds.
28:17 His low growl basically has no harsh distortion and sounds like his real voice yelling in a lower register. Interesting choice to say the least. 😅
Tomáš Urban Dream Theater has better concept albums and more complex/harder to play music but Opeth has better vocals and more variety in their sound. Both are great.
miguel a. r. Really? Most fans consider Scenes from a Memory and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence to be their greatest albums and they were 5th and 6th in their discography
