No way I sell that for $8000. Take it back, go get it graded yourself and get real value for it.
Guy probably needed to pay something and just picked that up out of his random safe where he was assuming it'd be worth like 100 dollars tops, seeing how he just casually had it in his pocket.
Where online? Good luck if you are not a trusted seller on Ebay no one will buy off you , most definitely when you're asking $15,000 for something. Just because you have a pic of what you're selling does not mean that is what they will get in the mail after sending you the money ... 50% of the going value is fair ...
420Hudie that’s why you get it graded. Proves authenticity
do you really want to trust the expert that is working for the guy your negotiating with. Just saying
I don't know man. I'm not a gambler but 8k would make a weekend in Vegas mighty fun
15000 but i'll take 8000. Some people settle to easily or are terrible negotiators.
+rollyrama2009 More like "meh, I would've sold this for less anyway". It's ridiculous how easily people let their stuff go for around or even less than half of it's true value.
+rollyrama2009 staged and fake, no one in their right mind would ever have done that deal, just imagine what hell make on that coin? its pure gold, it'll never decrease in value.
+rollyrama2009 well its also the fact that sometimes the owner could have just found it in the remains of a dead relative's belongings. In many cases, the dead relative could have left the guy his house and car. and in the process of searching the house finds the coin. At that point he litterally got the coin for nothing so when that factors in, the guy has $8000 of profit.
Or a more likely scenario could be that this coin belonged to an old wealth or at least financially well off couple that just happen to sell the coin to this guy for like say just as an example $2000 because it was more than what they originally paid for it and didnt know the true value. So this guy after some time goes to the pawn shop to sell it.
+rollyrama2009 Remember this is vegas they have debts or gambling to get to.
+rollyrama2009 open your own shop then
I love this show, especially when someone is trying to sell coinage!!! I love it.
"expert" is wearing a pawn shop shirt, first clue your gonna get screwed
The seller doesn't have to sell.
If you watch the scene, you'd know that Rick said at the start that this is HIS coin guy, and he called him from a back room in the shop. It's not like he was trying to hide the fact he works for Rick.
This scene is cut down so it doesn't actually show that part
They all took turns on him 😂😂
How'd he get screwed? Said it's worth maybe $15,000 ho took $8,000....he didn't have to sell it.
@@Criminalupper2200 don't think anyone thinks he was trying to hide that.
Rick: "Things can pop up, I'm assuming all the risk."
Customer: "You mean like Chumlee grabbing the coin & mishandling it? Why is that my problem?"
I would've settled at 9Gs
I don’t think he was expecting that thing to even be worth a G lol
Rule of thumb of rare coins: Get it graded before you sell it
They probably sold it for 15k
More like 20k
More if he held it for a couple years , the value just keeps going up on anything gold and silver !!
Especially silver, cus silver is scarce these days.
@@Shawn17WiFi Actually the price of sliver is much less than it used to be in the 80s
Jf Non probably 16-20k
I would have taken the coin and had it graded myself.
Dude said $15,000 so I’ll take $8,500 makes sense
hey ive got this dollar i want to get change for
"let me have my buddy look at it first"
Lmao
Best I can do is 5 dollars. I assume all the risk when I put it on EBAY for 25K
Rick is the master of bullshitting. "I gotta send it off, things can pop up when I send it off. I'm assuming all the risk here". Are you kidding me? it's an authentic coin from the 1800s.
@J 818 Rick has to send it off to be officially graded. His expert didn’t grade it. He gave his opinion after looking at it for a minute or two. The grade of coins like this makes all the difference in the value. The fact that the expert determined it was authentic does not completely determine its value.
@@jtslaptop Ok by that logic, the expert gave a conservative estimate since he knows his client (Rick) wouldn't be too happy if he ended up losing money. Therefore, if everything checks out, the coin's actual value would be closer to 20k than 15k.
Uploaded 7 years ago and time through time I still come and watch it .
Mr. Brown and the 1861 half eagle coin got along famously.
He’s gonna be telling all his friends and family man I should’ve never sold that coin
Sometimes I feel like when the guy or girl comes over to see if it's real or and the price they say it's worth a lot less than it actually is and they buy it and make a lot more money then would have.
U THINK!
They are an actual business, and have a reputation to uphold. Pawn shops have more leeway than most, but an honest reputation is worth a lot.
$8000 is my highest ,,, you have to understand, i'll be taking this to Wal Mart to have it framed
Sells coin for the half of it's price
*_GOOD DOING BUSINESS_*
Man has coin worth 15 thousand. Expert says it the real thing. Rick says ok the best I can do is a bologna sandwich, 2 sticks of gum and a 20 dollar gift certificate for Walmart. And I am really taking a chance here.
It’s always akward when they negotiate I think it’s ricks vibe that makes it akward
We all know this money goes into the slots
Things can pop up!! I end up assuming all the risk lol 😂
*VF - XF 2500 - 4000 expert need to drive out of work* 😎
Mr. Brown always had a pocketful of them.
You know i grew up in the pawn business and its not like this in real life. I dont know why I love this show, but i do. Lol
Jason Webb what’s it really like?
Emmanuel Selvas well first off. This show runs like a museum that buys and sells very high dollar stuff. Where im from the most money given out was $10,000 in 1982 for a 3 caret diamond that ended up being a CZ which is a man made diamond. Maybe with then being located in Vegas they can sell buy and sell stuff that would break just about every pawn shop that I know. Plus the show helps them out too. So there risk factor is a lot lower. What else would you like to know. Oh I have to throw this in. The object of a pawn shop is to buy it for the least amount and sell it for the most.
Jason Webb what’s the most common items people bring in? Cell phones? Have you ever gotten stolen goods? Or fakes
Emmanuel Selvas personally I believe that a pawn shop has a license to steal. ( My opinion only ). Items that are most common that are brought in.
1. TV's
2. Jewelry
3. Guns
4. Tools.
5. Stereo's.
Mostly junk that people have around there house that they think they can get money for. Now there are some shops that will take cars. But you have to have the title and can't be over a certain age, like 5 years old. Unless you come in with a fine old car that is restored or in mint condition.
Now for stolen items. Yes all the time. The cops will show up and take the stolen items back to the owner with the shop taking the full lose of that item. Which sucks. Could you imagine paying a couple grand for a gold chain and the cops picking it up and not giving you 1 red cent for it? A couple grand is an example most big chains that you see around rappers necks are hollow or filled. But yes shops get burnt all the time.
Pawn shops make their money on other people's suffering. This is one thing that's fact. If you ever go into one and really need money. Never let them know how bad you need it. They will use it to their advantage 100percent of the time and don't think they won't lie to you. Remember, they want what you got for the cheapest they can get it. So if you bring in something worth a solid $100 used. If they even smell that you need the money that bad. They are going to only offer $20-25 for it. But if you go in and be yourself you might be able to get $59-60. They want and need to make money. What's funny is, I watched a woman come in one day with a PlayStation 2. At the time sold brand new for $99.99 at Walmart and it came with 2 games. She came demanding$150 got it. I couldn't help it and started laughing and had to go to the back of the store. The owner came back there and asked me what was so funny. I told him that I picked up the something the night before for my son at Walmart. The owner didn't know anything about games. But he walked back out there and told her that he would be glad to give her $10 for it. I swear she replied that she had just paid $108.00 for it and knew it was worth more than that.
This is how people act.every once in awhile someone will get lucky and slip something through. The best one I've seen happened to me. A guy came in and wanted to seek two rings. I check then out. 18 cart golf and a 2 caret diamond in the middle. I make him an offer of $400. He said no thanks and walked out. About 5 minutes later came back in and said ok I'll take it. This is where i messed up. I should've checked them agin to make sure they were the same rings. I didn't and bought 2 fakes that looked just like the real ones. This was back in 1987. Needless to say if I hand them back to the customer, then they hand then back to me. I will check it ever time. Anyway this is is just a little on the pawn shop business. Pawn Stars is a great show and have a lot of historic items and can learn from it. Maybe it's the location and people really do have cannons and ancient swords. But not where I am from. Have a good one and peace to you and your family
It's only worth $15k if there is a buyer out there willing to pay that amount so I am not sure if he really got 'screwed' for accepting $8k. Uber rare coins like that can be quite illiquid and it can take a while to find an enthusiast willing to pay the exact estimated value. On the other hand some items constantly fetch more than their estimated value. I would be interested to see someone bring in an original low numbered copy of The White Album by The Beatles. The ones numbered below 100 almost always fetched more than the estimated value.
everyone on this show gets robbed good asf
Ask a poor person to sell you something for half it’s value and they get $8k for an hours work. Or ask a poor person to put it months of work and research in order to sell that item at face value. Most poor people are taking the quick easy low cash. That’s why they are poor.
Hyuk! I'm a takin' my high dollar gold coin to a pawnshop to sell it!
Things could pop up haha 🤣 Bollocks!
I just saw rick give $8500 for a coin that was valued at $10,000 but he's only willing to pay $8,000 for a coin that was valued at $15,000? Dafuq?
"Nobody works for free" What a ridiculous statement in response to the OP's comment. If Rick's explanation about the uncertainty of having it graded is correct then it would have also applied to the 10k coin that he paid 8.5k for. But for some reason, it only applies to this coin right? You are the type of person who goes into a pawnshop and gets ripped off, then defends that pawn broker. Rick's entire business is built on making the highest profit possible.. Do you really think that all of his prices are fair? My grandfather told me that men are becoming rare these days and he was absolutely right. I don't know how you even stand up right without the use of a spine.
Pawn shops will give you half the price that it's valued at because they have to turn a profit on it as well. In my opinion he shouldve got at least 10k for it because the expert said it can be retailed 15k and up. Watch Rick's greedy ass sale it for 20-25k
The other coin was professionally graded and encapsulated. Plus the guy said this coin is $15K on a good day (not every day).
Mad Pierrot Capitalism fucktard
well... now this time he really takes all the risks actually, 8k for a nontrader is pretty good. played a lot of runescape I know what I'm talking about
Sir how much your buy this old gold coins since 1881-1892-1901 5D liberty united state of amireca?
Guy got murdered
At most it's going to take 100 dollars to get this coin graded and put in a capsule by ngc or pcgs. If it's comes back improperly cleaned you just take it out and sell it as the coin alone. The sucker buying it won't know the difference. The dude who sold it got gypped, should've walked away.
I'm looking at the letter C, and yes Mr. Brown got along famously with this coin.
No way I'd take so little. He should have walked that was a poor deal for him
Slick Rick cons another one out of something valuable.
Srsly? Rick's employee is the expert AND has unbiased opinion ????
Mike: I'd say it's worth 15,000 dollars
Customer: So what do you think?
Rick: I'll give you a dollar.
Customer: Deal.
If the seller were smart, he would have sent it in to be slabbed and appraised, then put it up for auction. He might have gotten double what he got.
Here @ 1:01 That coin would be in my safe deposit box!
Have you heard of a joke that goes like this. A guy puts his house in the market and someone comes to have a look at it. The first question they ask is was this house from your parents or yours? It was my parents he says. Ok the guy looks around and thinks its not his hasnt worked for it so I know the idiot will let it go cheap. This guy reminded me of that one.
People say that this tv show is all staged and shot on a stage not the real pawn shop .
Nice coin Good Price
Sounds like Corey was not happy with the "honest" evaluation?
I take all the risk so half of what it’s worth (Rick) 😂
Dude just got swindled
Cue the Rick-haters. And those who say Rick should pay retail prices. Also....Rick can't assume he's going to get top-end good-day prices. Unless he wants to to go out-of-business.
I would have taken it outside and thrown it into the "drains to ocean" opening in the street!
this guy thought he was so slick lmao
15000. When Rick says 7500. You don't lower it yourself. You stay at 15000. Rick would come up to 9000. You go to 14000, Rick offers 11500, and that's the best he can do.
Or go have it graded and avoid the pawn store. Pawn stores have to low-ball you, that's just the nature of their business.
He got soo low balled considering the auction house will start the bidding at 10000
8000$ for a penny sized peice of metal, sounds like a good deal to me
Very least put it on eBay. Before selling it to a pawnshop. The guy did say 15k
lol look ebay there same grade same coins , 3.5k$
From my understanding the 3.5k coins you see on eBay are not as rare as the one you are seeing here.
Colin sushiboy eBay takes time and not everyone are interested in buying coins. There are a lot rare coins I see on eBay and there are barely any people bid it. Pawnshops are instant cash that takes no percentages of your sales while selling stuff on eBay take times and that also takes percentages of your sales
The "C" is usually just where the coin was minted which usually doesn't have a very significant effect on the value of coins anyway. Kinda weird he was focusing so much on that one detail.
Obviously you know nothing about coins.
So during this time period it was not common to use bills and only coins?
I’ll give you 8 bucks and a stick of gum
If it was just Cory with no Rick, he'd have paid 12.
7,500 ? This offer just like walking in the middle of desert with no water......
I would of had it graded before trying to sell it.
1:55 the money blinded him, don't see why he couldn't have easily got a couple grand more, good for the pawn shop though
Why would anyone in their right mind sell a coin like that to a pawn shop? Go to a coin shop!
Gotta give it to ol Slick Rick, he is an old school bullshitter.
The guy should've sent it out to get graded himself.
The only people who sell valuable stuff to pawn shops are either A)Junkies who need a fix ASAP or B) Idiots.
Definitely one born every minute
sounds like a good deal lets not forget that's a price from a guy who works their
Lol Rick would have paid 11k the seller was too eager
11,000 or I'm walking.
ever notice how they always use the same argument and people always fall for it
The gentleman should have walked out the doors for anything less than 10K
Corey was rude to his colleague
History channel doesn't tell us the history behind the coin american education channel. Lol
Did he ever got out of his house after this aired?
15k gold coin not even in a $1 coin holder, this is an insult to the coin community.
This coin sold at auction in 2014, the year of this video, for $38,188 in MS50, probably the condition of this gold piece, so I'd say this guy got robbed.
want to see the whole video, what is the episode #?
Totally ridiculous. He had an expert look at it if I would’ve known who complain. You takeoff 20% for auctions the nets $12,000 if he’s willing to wait a few months for the money versus $8000 now.
Nope, 15gs and you settled for 8? Would have found someone else.
Like I care about the risks? Lol
he did offer 50% right off id take that for the $90,000 worth of coins i currently have and want to sell , not to mention 12 thomas kinkade paintings worth over $100,000 ... 50% of that would work for me too!!
Should have gotten 9500 for it
I have 1902 fived liberty coin half eagle...how much is the value of my coin....
Let me call a buddy of mine who works for me.
And the problem might come up, my car might break down and I need a new fridge at home, or I might accidentally slide into the neighbor's mailbox
Holy mother of coins
Saludos amigo rik tengo una moneda de ese tamaño pero dice one dollar y no le veo fecha
Grade it then go and sell it!
I would be 8k more than the $5 i had
I like seller wow good one
Rick is a friggin' miser
Ain’t no way. Should of been nothing less then 20 g’s
8 grand these nuts
I woulda paid the guy 10,000 for it!
Sure, this dude got suckered to some. But, obviously this was some dude who isnt a collector or anything and just had this laying around his house as a novelty piece, and you guys gotta realize that. Imagine taking some random thing in ur house thats old and collecting dust and has been sitting there for years on end to the pawn shop and leaving w a couple grand in your pocket. Besides, they're probably only gonna make 2-3k off of it after expenses and what not.
They stole it from him the coin is worth over $20,000
I have coin 1881 five D 21carat gold 8.3grams. Thanks
Beautiful
any one wants to buy the two silver coins dated 1882 and 1923 name your price and we can talk about it , thanks.
And another fool and his money part.
never ever sell to pawn stars they will milk you
its a coin you supposed to clean it if you don't small details of it will gone cleaning it won't lessen the value
You know nothing about numismatics.
+Simon Gray k.
+chinubyu u k.
Cleaning a coin destroys the value......you literally remove parts of it through chemical procedure.....
It definitely destroys the value. And when I use the word "destroy," it's actually literal.
+Voidmager Im talking about just wiping it with some clean cloth not to fucking putting it on a grinder or sand paper fucking hell Im not an idiot
Gave away 5. Large
