It's supply and demand. These gold coins don't sell for the spot price of gold, people pay a premium for the rarity of the coin. Canadian minted gold coins are not as rare as American ones from that period.
@@CanuckCoins It's not about raw rarity, it's about demand. There are way more American collectors/ people interested in collecting American coins. Both of you are dumb.
Meanwhile, at pawn stars: "Hey, I've got this mint condition $500 bill from the 1800s. Never been used, and it was stored in a glass case by Abraham Lincoln during his assassination. How much will you give me for it?" "How about $50. Hey, I've got to make a profit."
That's a humorous story but why would you take something like that to a pawn shop? Who goes into a pawn shop looking for historical money? Pawn shop have expanded their businesses but back in the 40s and 50s they were little seedy places for winos to get a $5 loan on their radio until they got paid By the way, Abraham Lincoln never had $500 to spare. His crazy wife hoarded all the money. She put him $27,000 in debt while he was in the White House. He only had a confederate five dollar bill in his wallet when he died. You can always see how Ricks slow eyes/movements and tussles with customers of products suddenly changes BOOM the second he shakes their hand because he knows he just made a ton of money every time. Rule of ANY pawn shop. Take the amount you hope to get and cut it in half. Then take that number and cut that in half. If you’re lucky, you’ll maybe get offered that low number. These places exist on desperation.. we’re lucky to have them for times of need but yeah... so many people on this show seem so super surprised at low offers, like dude it’s a pawn shop with big bills lol they aren’t an end buyer they ain’t paying top dollar.
Rick what do you have there? Customer- William Shakespeare's paper he used too write his plays on. Rick- Cool! So, how much do you want for it?\ Cusomer- 10 grand. Rick- Nice meeting you, the door is that way. Rick- What do you got? Customer- Old US military coin used for currency in 1921. Rick- how much do you want? Customer- 15k. Rick- Deal.
@Juntahh Not really... You're not going to get market price from a pawn shop. The pawn shop will be lucky to catch market price for it. When you get quoted a price from an appraiser or a specialist, it's always market value... or what you would get selling it at a private auction or to a collector. Pawn shops are not going to give you that much, that's how much THEY will get. In this case, IF the shop sells it at market, they will make $8k profit.
Rick: sorry the best that I can do is a piece of half chewed chewing gum and a toothbrush. You have to look at from my point of view. I have to clean it, mount it and that cost money
@hypnocil10 Yes, I know he's talking about coins,BUT, he also made a comment about how much the Canadian $ is worth VS how much the American $ is worth, which, as I mentioned above, has been edited from the You Tube video. He's talking about how the Canadian $ is worth less than the American $ in his television version, BUT, most people know, Canadian $ has been par with American $ for at least the last two years, perhaps longer. I'm not commenting on whether or not Canadian coins suck or not.
11 years later, an ms60 only goes for about 4200 CAD now and a 50 goes for around 2500 CAD. The dude actually did do pretty well. Then again, key dates sell, especially nice ones like that.

Solid gold bars?

Maybe not for a pawn store with history stuff. Not sure

Roga Lu what do you mean? I’m sure most of the gold they get goes to the smelter, they would cream over gold bars
roland tobias the best I can do is $50 each
In truth there isn’t... but for those interested, with deep pockets, there is NO limit.
