Erik playing Zerg feels the same as Hero does with Protoss when he started playing again. In short, it's exciting to watch and you never know what's going to happen.
I've literally been thinking about overlord dropping queens all over the map for creep spread strat for months now since creep spread is basically the equivalent of map control for the zerg. Glad to see a pro put it to use in the current meta to test out the pros and cons
I've been thinking of that too as a casual, starting creep from the enemy side to then spread out to your side sounds both annoying and highly useful defensively & offensively
I abused the sht out of on demand Droplords. Worms were fragile and costly back in the day, so you drop queens at the base of the reaper wall, works on air walls too, then take one queen, drop her on the high ground, make a tumor, then turn off gush and evac: when that tumor pops, creep will spread immediately from the lowground, you just need line of sight to bring the rest up, lol. Force scans, they can't build static, although creep is less persistent now, it's cheap cheese, costs energy and apm, even if causes only emotional damage. I remember one poor terran and thors staring morosely at a spot of creep I'd left after a double nydus between his main and natural, popped the two queens, and got creep tumors out, one high, one low, lol. He cleaned up the top, but he stood there staring at the creep preventing his cc from landing for like a whole minute, his thors - again, lol. Erick has my love for that cheese and his muta micro, fool even brought an overseer, unheard of!
I love this because I've honestly wondered for years why we didn't see more play like this to deny expos with dropperlords and queens. Fantastic, puts a grin on my face.
I feel like seeing these new build orders is like the early days of wings of liberty where people were trying new stuff, but with more technical skill - awesome!
Ahhhh Spanishiwa, I remember, he did those crazy builds in the early years. No gas, nydus worms, been so long ago but I still remember loving his style. I feel you boomer Lowko, same.
StarCraft was kinda dead for me for a while now even though I still like to watch it. I peaked like 5 years ago and since then didnt really find my way back into it. This refreshing playstyle however really amazes me and led me back to playing myself. Thanky you very much for that @Lowko and @Erik! :)
This is refreshing. It became tyring to me to see eveybody play the same openers and chesse moves. I always thought about a match where players get to pick campaign mutations for the units so they would have to adapt to the unexpected
Erik is probably playing since the early days of sc2. I used to play with him and kelazhur back on the days of 2011~2012 in some tournaments that the Brazilian scene had and in some friendly games too
Creep timing attack sounds like it would be better in ZvP than in ZvT. Terran has a linear tech tree where they always get a Starport, so adjusting it to get a Raven out isn't too hard; for Protoss, getting detection out is more expensive if they go for a Stargate or Twilight Council first. But the best matchup for this has got to be ZvZ. Can you imagine spreading creep on your opponent's side of the map in a mirror match? You just can't recover from that as Zerg.
It’s very easy to fall into the trap of “this is my creep”. If you don’t have detection your opponent can extend tumors on your creep, giving them vision. It’s unusual, and precisely because of that, it can work
Can't tell if you're trolling lol? The last thing a pro Zerg would want to do is prioritize spreading creep on the other side of the map because that benefits the opponent :/ Protoss opens Oracles 90% of the time against Zerg so this would be pointless. Its not that its hard for Terran to get a Raven after the early game but its very risky and something a Bio player should never do. It means cutting into Medivac production and as you saw in this game he lost a dozen marines because he was messing around clearing creep & couldn't do a hot pickup or harass and get a lead.
@@hivetech4903 No, I think the suggestion was re: sneak dropping tumors on opposing creep. Lots of great creep cheese. Terrans have to lift the port to switch tech, can't do that if it's already on creep, for example. Force a raven, adopt it, and feed the terran some his own cheese dust. 🧀🐲
Its not about the mutas, Lowko.First of all Erik is doing what he`s opponent does not expect, and then also doing the thing that beats the thing that his opponent is probably doing. The enemy sees roach warren, goes marines+medivas+tanks. So Erik goes mutas+banes. With the advantage he has from hes early game this is enough. Hes early game non-trite build is once again the same - he does what he is not expected to, but also the thing that hurts his opponent suggested-trite build the most for this stage of the game. Its like playing hard against playing smart. Now Erik may not be the best player out there, but he`s definitely the smart one! GLORY TO ERIK!
I think it could be pretty viable, as Lowko mentioned, if someone like dark would implement it and has the creep tumor timers better under control he would denie a little bit the base + the gas for detection, BUT meanwhile the creep tumors have already spreed home or in sneakly places to not get detected. So you got 2 times faster the map covered
Haven't watched the vid yet, but I've been contemplating commenting in the last week or so to say I hope someday some zerg starts spreading creep with dropper lords and queens. Looks like my wish has been granted but I dont have the proof to say I thought of it.
Lol. Creep rush works best if you focus on just getting minimal creep just to connect your bases. They'll figure u for a noob and never see it coming. For teh swarm! 🐲
I think that a viable strategy to spread creep quickly is to use droperlords with Queens and transport them over the map. Then you can put Creep Tumors in places without Creep. I don't know why nobody plays it on high level. I would think that this is only viable on High level, because of the APM required to do this all over the map while also doing other things. But it shouldn't be that expansive. I guess the reason why it's not played is that it's not really that advantageous. Yeah, the Creep will spread a tiny bit faster. But soon enough, even without this strategy, the Zerg controlled territory would have Creep, and even with this strategy, the Terran controlled Territory will be purged of Creep, because cleaning it up is much faster than creating it.
Yeah, it is something which I tend to do in such games. I had an idea about it too. These builds orders are old as a game itself, but it takes time for pros to get them. It is mostly, because pros are very rigid and stubborn. It took them ages to build defenses in their main base or go for macro hatcheries. They are the last people to adapt something new. On the other hand, people who come up with such strategies, lack traits and dedication which makes pro, pros. Game is too difficult for them to play at the highest level and thus, nobody cares what they tend to do.
"Cool" build, but so much investment for something than can be countered with a single scan doesn't seems to be good enought for tourney. Maybe against a protoss? But a protoss getting twilight would prob put too much pressure on the zerg, and stargate and robo would also counter that opponening it seems. Hope to get feedback from Serral again. PS: It's always great to hear u cast not just about the game, but about the meta and the pro community arround it, thanks Lowko!
@@Intensi0ns I still play like I'm silver in diamond lobbies and win with two flocks of mutas harassing 2 places and still controlling my main army. You need better micro for muta to be efficient.
@Crabchann I want you to re-read what you just said. I want you to seriously think about it. Then ask yourself do I have 1/50th of the micro as say a serral or reynor. When that answer is obviously no. Ask yourself again why pros use them once every 60 games

I will say for "bottom of the progamer tier" he uses those spellcasters _really_ well. Vipers and infestors are hard to micro during a fight.
