- You read that right, too much muscle damage can stop you making gains AND even can lead to lose muscle...
In this video Christian is doing a quick recap of what is muscle hypertrophy and also HOW to gain muscle mass effectively.
Training more and more is often not the solution...

I’m a simple man living a simple life. I see Coach Thibaudeau speak, I click, I listen, I train
Its a shame that this man doesnt have a million subs. Him and dan john were the only good authors in the t nation universe in the 2010s lol
So you missed out my first 12 years with T-nation then LOL
@@THIBARMY nah i read most of your stuff. Btw do you know a good source for old Charles Poliquin articles? It seems like a lot of his older more complex stuff is completly wiped from the internet and or links are dead. Even with internet archive i didnt have much success.
Oh man the good old days. I remember there was a funny story going around when Thibaudeau met Georges St-Pierre
@@ShawnGetty-eb1gj actually, Biotest/T-nation has a booth at the M. Olympia. GSP was at the booth with us. some funny things happened. The funniest was that when we were in the lobby of our hotel a woman walked up to George and asked ‘can you take a picture?’… George agreed and grabbed the woman by the shoulders to take the pic… she quickly backed off and asked what he was doing… she had no idea who he was and just wanted him to take picture of her in the lobby. We told her to take the picture with George and that if she shows it to her husband he’ll explain
@@THIBARMY Yes i remember this now lol ! Thanks so much for responding. Youre a legend !
Excellent, Thank you!
One thing I found, for example for my triceps is that if I go beyond a certain number of sets per session I do atrophy.
If I lower that set number slightly it takes me about 3-4 days until I get the triceps ''filled up and flexing'' in proper size.
If I lower the set number even a bit more, I realize I get the ''fill up and flex'' at around 50-60 hours post training.
So if I was programming to hit the same muscle in a certain hours/days after, I adjust the per session volume.
Another thing I recently experienced is when I give my self full on lazy recovery days I don't get as much as when I do active recovery where I do some stretching and on the floor wellbeign stuff like cat camels, thread the needles, birddogs, planks of all kinds, sides rear front etc etc, these active rest days I think gets the blood moving and better results.
Ok that was a long sentence, do excuse me. : )
LIIIIIIFFFFFFTTTTT !!!
lovely keep em please
Good lesson, thanks Christian!
Much appreciated
This is confirming
Keep em coming Thib, you fucking chad
RIGHT?! All of the Internet shitheads who talk about training and know nothing and we come here and get pure gold? It’s almost not fair
Spread the word LOL
Thank you coach!! Much appreciation from Halifax!! Any plans to come here for a visit?
Not at the moment, but maybe in the future
Coach thibs deserves a million subs at least. Need to market him better , team.
I'm hiring someone for that next week
Thanks Christian, what tempo do you think we should use in the concentric phase? If the goal is hypertrophy first and strength second?
I ask this question because you prioritize the recruitment of high-threshold motor units, but in some video you talked about slower tempos for hypertrophy and thus generate greater mechanical tension throughout the entire joint angle.
On the big basic heavy lifts, try to accelerate as much as you can without cheating or using momentum. For every other exercises (including multi-joint exercises that are not the main big lift) I would use what I call a "smooth acceleration"... imagine a plane taking off or rocket launching. At first it's not going super fast, it gradually builds up speed
@@THIBARMYPerfect! I understand the idea. Thanks again 💪
I'd be dead if it wasn't for Thib
Why?
Cortisol Too High@@THIBARMY
On a push, pull, legs, arms split, do you also do arm isolations on push and pull days? Or just let those be for chest/delts and back and save arm iso for arms day?
It depends.... most of the time, I will not have people do biceps on pull day or triceps on push days, I keep them for arm days. The exception is for people with lagging arms, in which case we will do some biceps on pull and triceps on push. I PERSONALLY do biceps on pull because my biceps suck, but I don't do triceps on push days.
@@THIBARMY thank you! and meant to ask also, do you do any compounds on arm day (dips, CGBP, chin-ups) or just do a few isolations?
How to find the optimal volume coach
What about the repeated bout effect? Doesn't that protect your muscle from damage if training to frequently
It decreases it, but not prevent it
So coach are we better off 3 full-body a week, for best recovery and enough stimulus?
It's one of the splits that I like. As for whether it's the best one or not is really dependant on your goal and the type of training you do. I tend to favor a whole body approach with athletes. I also like 3 whole-body sessions + 1 GAP workout (easier session including mostly isolation work for lagging muscles) for gen pop body composition clients. To maximize muscle growth, I typically like a push/pull/legs/arms split. For strength I use a lift-specific split (one main lift per day, plus it's assistance work)
Thanks coach, you really got a handle on this stuff, given us the truth is what we're all attracted too , and I appreciate it. I'm 60 now , I'm trying to figure out how to still go about it for possible growth and longevity and health, I have been training since 15, so my body knows all the tricks, but I never want to lose that winning attitude, even though it's getting harder, but I always aim high👆
Best coach on the planet and has barely 50k subs? That’s ridiculous 😂 So many clowns out there have more…
What happened to Thibarmy?
What do you mean? Nothing, it's just like it was... are you talking about T-nation?
He leaves me wanting to find out more. Video ended too soon.
