    I'm a 64-year-old female who's always been active. I've been taking 2g of HMB daily with whey protein for over 2 years. I started taking it primarily to hopefully prevent sarcopenia. For a number of years prior to this, I was physically active, but mostly just walking and yard work. One day after climbing the garage attic ladder multiple times, on my way down, my legs gave out, and I fell 3 steps landing on concrete. Only minor scratches, but it OPENED my eyes!!! Walking and yard work does NOT keep one's muscles strong!!
    I did some research, and started weight training with a kettlebell, dumb-bells, and a mini trampoline. I also added HMB and whey protein daily. Long story short, it took 6 months, but I regained much muscle and strength. Living alone with animals to care for, I found that I no longer needed help with 50lb bags of feed!! Or 40lbs of softener salt. I was physically able to do much more, AND I could completely rely on my muscles once again!! A period of time came when I had to stop weight training regularly. At my age, I find that I can't do physically demanding work and weight train. I can only manage one at a time. But despite not weight training, I did NOT lose any of my strength!! I continued to use HMB and whey protein daily, and still do!! These are 2 supplements that I will NEVER be without as I continue to age. (and vitamin D, magnesium, k2) I've recently added creatine, only a week ago. I've also upped my HMB to 3g. It'll be interesting to see in time, if this changes anything. Hopefully I can get back to working out again soon, as I miss it. Especially for leg and hip strength. Based on my personal experience, I'd recommend HMB to anyone over age 50, most especially females. It has worked wonders for me, passively (and actively) keeping my muscles strong. Like I said, this is one supplement I will NEVER be without!!!

    I had a nagging partial lat tear. I'm in my mid 40s. I stopped exercise for about a month. I took the free acid version of HMB. The muscle is completely healed and I really didn't lose much strength, if any, when I started back up. I probably won't take it unless I have another muscle injury, but it is something I'd consider again.

    I’m a 63 year old woman. Been weight lifting, running, racquet sports, lots of hiking and biking since I was 18 (while active duty Air Force). Since about 2012, I have included HIIT twice per week though this past year, just weekly. I am 5’3” and maintain 120lbs. I’m lean(ish) but not skinny - I have visible muscle striations when working out but look fairly average when relaxed. Basically, I’ve had sore muscles since my 40s but have pushed through no problem. Lately, I’ve been feeling A LOT of soreness!! I’m going to begin supplementing with creatine and HMB today (received my Amazon orders yesterday). I’m opting not to go the “loading phase” but rather just added 5g creatinine and 3g HMB to my daily “power shake” (currently consists of whey protein isolate, psyllium husk powder and glutamine in water). Today is Aug 31, 2024 and if there is an interest in my experience with the added creatine and HMB supplements, let me know because I will respond.

    I started taking HMB roughly a week ago and it has sky rocketed my recovery.
    I used to have 2-4 days of recovery and after I started taking HMB it immediately went down to 1-2 recovery.
    Two things to note.
    1. I do have issues with my stomach, which are undiagnosed as of right now. So it might be related to my stomach having issues producing the HMB from Leucine.
    2. I only started taking them VERY recently, so it's no guarantee it will continue like this. But as of right now, my soreness is gone in 1-2 days instead of 3-4 days, which it has been for the last 8 months.

      I just bought another, quite big, batch of HMB as I feel confident the results will continue like this and I found a huge discount as well.
      The price difference is huge. The one I bought was 0.023$ per gram compared to the most expensive one I checked, which was 0.66$ per gram. That's 28.7 times more expensive!!

    I can’t testify to taking solely hmb but I can to taking the combo of creatine and hmb. With only creatine which I did for around 3 years, I could barely notice an internal difference between strength and energy levels on or off, my muscles looked slightly more bloated. I have been taking 5 grams of creatine daily, 10 grams on heavy workout days, and 3 grams of hmb daily for roughly 2 months now. I have a warehouse job right now in which I’m moving heavy truck tires and rims and other car parts and I can still do 4-5 days of working out without overtraining and feeling sore or drained and I am actually gaining muscle mass. I have never taken steroids before but I would assume this would be the closest feeling to it.

    You briefly mentioned leucine. I saw a video about replacing hmb with leucine. Had the same benefits and leucine is less expensive. I would like to know your thoughts on this. Thanks!

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  Рік тому +10

      Yes, the human body can convert leucine, an essential amino acid, into β-Hydroxy β-Methylbutyrate (HMB). This conversion is part of the body's natural metabolic processes.
      Leucine is one of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), and it plays a crucial role in muscle protein synthesis and other metabolic functions. When leucine is metabolized in the body, a small portion of it (approximately 5%) is converted into HMB.
      The conversion process of leucine to HMB primarily occurs in the liver and muscles. HMB is a metabolite of leucine that has been studied for its potential role in reducing muscle protein breakdown and supporting muscle health and recovery, particularly in athletes or in conditions of muscle wasting.
      While the body can convert leucine to HMB, the efficiency of this conversion is relatively low. Therefore, for those seeking the specific benefits of HMB, such as athletes or elderly individuals looking to maintain muscle mass, direct supplementation with HMB might be considered.

    This is of course anecdotal, but I'm 50, started training 12 months ago, with supplementation of Creatine, O3, Zinc, D4, Multi vitamins, and HMB. Now, I train 4 times per week for 1 hour, at a very high intensity. I've added 28lbs in mass and doubled my strength and endurance. For example, using incline dumbell press, I started at 20kg x 10 reps, 3 sets. I'm now at 40kgs x 10 reps, 3 sets. Not claiming it's HMB that caused this, it was hard work and consistency, but it's entirely possible that it's helped, along with the other stuff. 100% natural, no TRT or anything.

Anyway, you gained a lot more than I have my first year and I’m wondering if you maybe have had newb gains. People who previously trained can condition their muscles much quicker (let’s call that muscle memory 😊). But apparently after that period the gains slow down. (Unless you are not NAT). Must say though, you are slaying it!

My muscles aren’t sore to the point of pain or I can’t workout. If they are sore, it’s very light or not at all. I believe it’s from the HMB. Mind you. I’m incline bench pressing 2 plates, cross body hammer curls are now at 85 lbs & my RDLS are at 335. I’m not bulky but I’m stronger than most of the average joes. My conclusion this shit works! Regarding HMB supplementation for teenagers, it's crucial to consult a healthcare provider before starting, as the safety and efficacy for this age group are not well-documented. As for interactions with Keppra (Levetiracetam), there's no widely available evidence on specific interactions between HMB and Keppra. However, given the importance of managing medication interactions, it's essential to discuss any new supplements with a healthcare professional to ensure they are safe to use together.

      @DrTomBiernacki  Рік тому +5

      The best time to take HMB supplements can vary depending on your fitness goals and workout routine, but here are some general guidelines:
      Before Exercise: Taking HMB about 30 to 60 minutes before exercise may help reduce muscle damage and support recovery.
      After Exercise: Consuming HMB soon after a workout can also be beneficial for muscle recovery and growth, as this is when your muscles are most receptive to nutrients.
      With Meals: Some people prefer to take HMB with meals to enhance absorption.
      Consistency is Key: Regular daily intake of HMB is important for optimal results. Even on non-workout days, taking HMB can help in muscle recovery and maintenance.
      Dosage: Typically, a dose of 3 grams per day is recommended, divided into two or three doses. However, it's always best to follow the manufacturer's instructions or consult with a healthcare professional.

    • @Acadia708
      @Acadia708 10 місяців тому

      Maybe you meant creatinine? It sounds the same but I think it’s different, I’m not a doctor but I think it’s related to kidneys, you should have it checked with your doctor. Creatine might not be good with existing kidney issues, plus I don’t find it helping me but I’m a peculiar case, lots of muscle tightness and soreness Achilles issues, I bought one kilo of creatine, I don’t find it did any improvements. I think it propbably has to do with everyone goal and body, my objective is not pushing myself but rather exercising without soreness or getting injured. This kilo of creatine seems like it will never finish 😂. I’m finishing this and not buying it again.

    • @VinaturaSupplements
      @VinaturaSupplements 10 місяців тому

      Yes, there are several reasons why a woman might have high creatinine levels in blood tests without taking supplements. A carnivore diet could indeed be one of those reasons. Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscles from the breakdown of a compound called creatine, which is found in meat. A diet high in meat, especially a carnivore diet, can lead to increased intake of creatine, which in turn can lead to higher production of creatinine. Other factors that can contribute to elevated creatinine levels include increased muscle mass, strenuous exercise, dehydration, and certain health conditions. It's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider to interpret blood test results and understand the specific causes in individual cases.
