If you’re doing this in 2020 you can backup n restore all you saved data to ps plus if you’re a member. and you can re-download you’re games from your Library once you sing in. Saved me 8 hours and $80 on an external hard drive

I may be a PC gamer but I am surprised I never thought of this. A huge console problem is load times and an SSD would help with those greatly. Hopefully this tutorial will help a lot of console gamers, HyperX.

NOTE TO EVERYONE when you first plug in the External HDD DO NOT format it as "Extended HDD" if you do by mistake go to System>Devices>USB HDD select the External HDD your wanting to use and press Options on control and format it as exFATT (i think thats what it says) then proceed to to System>Back up & Restore then you'll be able to backup data on the External HDD

Thanx BUD. I replaced the original 1TB (HDD) with a 500GB (SSD) for my kids and it worked like a charm. Did not need backups as they are still too young, so this worked like a charm. The only thing that got me was the USB KEY had to be plugged into the back of the unit. Thanx again, all the way from Cape Town, South Africa!
Random - he is talking about the speed, Sony said that the PS5 would be much faster, they tested losing some sort of program on the ps5 and it took 0.8 seconds while they used the same program on the PS4 it took 8 seconds. In conclusion the ps5 is 10X faster than the PS4
The ps4 is bottle necked even with an ssd, they will load faster with a ssd, but it is a very minimal increase in speed. I put a ssd in mine and was disappointed.

Any external you pic would fit. Just buy the largest SSD you can afford and plug it in. The only fatal mistake here is that you didn't use your brain lol.
Small details: your new HDD or SSD needs to be FAT32. Your external storage device (Pendrive) you update the system from also and not supposed to be bigger capacity than a certain size: First I tried 128 GB pendrive but my PS4 did'nt see it. Than I tried 4 gig pendrive and all went like charm.

Easy stuff wish I did this sooner. Immediately noticed a significant decrease in load times on red dead online. I had the game downloaded on a newer external before and that helped more than the original factory hard drive but the ssd is even quicker.

I don't think you can run 4 squad voice comm over Teamspeak while having squadleaders on two voice channels at a time on a ps4. Also the fact that consoles are only for gaming. What if I want to talk more in-depth about games in reddit for example or shitpost shitty memes, listen to music, listen to podcasts, watch a livestream while relaxing and playing a casual round of civ? You can't! Maybe you have some other hobbies like making videos, using photoshop, 3D modeling, coding? I mean to my understanding consoles have apps like spotify and stuff but I could never imagine using them with a controller With consoles I just feel like im restricted you can't really customize your console all that much. And what I hate the most is the UI which looks like the one I have on my phone with big boxes and icons.
Zeppo i do play pc from time to time but ps4 more. i realise i can do so much more with a pc but i like things simple. its easier to just jump on and invite my friends to a party and play. and if i want to listen to music i can use spotify on my phone and tell it to connect to my ps4 without having to actually do anything with my controller btw. its all just preference at the end of the day.

Correct. You get almost no gains over a 7200 RPM HDD or a SSHD. You're spending way more per GB to get the same gains.

SSD gives a massive gain to any sata2 PC and device. Max transfer speed isn't the biggest reason why SSDs are so fast.
I bought a 2T for 100$. Plus, you can alway remove it and use it else were.

It only works to a certain firmware version. Like with the ps3. It matters what firmware it had when produced too.
