I popped the cover with a flathead to break all the clips, used an impact gun to remove the screw, then install ssd. Used duct tape for expansion bay cover and super glued plastic cover backed on, easy peasy!
Like gamer nexus. Using a plastic hammer. When I saw that I unsubscribed.
We’ll both live better lives without each other.
Cheers. 😂
That rubber band trick is a damn good idea, can't believe I haven't seen that before!
The last time something was this easy to understand and straight to the point was when i was conceived! Good Job
We've missed your videos, glad you're back 😊
Thanks John for sharing this tip!
I'd say an SSD is a must for a PS5, I've got a 1TB in mine which is small but it works for me
Honestly, imma gonna upgrade when my next check comes in.
While this does make it a lil nostalgic (like buying a memory card for my PS2) it does kinda suck that I have to buy one NOW to have some freedom😂😂
I'd definitely get a 2tb now since they're much cheaper these days but they were an added $100 more in price when I bought the 1tb
always feels great watching your videos
Just the video I needed, thank you so much! You've earned another subscriber!
Thank you for the guide
The cover removing was abit hard and very stressful
Lov your tips. 😎
Thank you for sharing 👊👍✌️
The rubber band hack can save you in many other situations than this so thanks for sharing that here as well.
Thanks for the help
Thanks for the video
I already got the 2TB PlayStation license brand bro and great 👍🏻 video too bro 😎
Cheapest option in my country was Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink. It is a great performing SSD, I have it in PC too.
Actually I found the smaller mounting screw (2:16) is the one that’s VERY easily stripped. Not the expansion bay cover screw. Mine was so tight that you’d almost think it’s not supposed to be removed
I'm not sure why they made the cover split in half when we could have gotten really cool color customed blades on the PS5. Instead, it looks like an upgraded futuristic version of the PS4, with the black line split in between the covers.
Thanks, good video
Great guide fast and furious with no bullsh*t!!
thank you!
Honestly this video help me cause I'm cautious with my stuff and I'm planning to upgrade for extra space for gta 6 if it drops and upgrading the plate replacement
The rubber band tip is cool
I’m sorry, but if you strip the head of a screw using a hand powered screwdriver, especially on something like this where you aren’t supposed to be tightening it down much at all just making sure it is snug, you are a special kind of regard.
thanks for rubber band trick. never tried that before, somehow!
thank you just brought myself a ps5 slim
great tip
Wow he didn't have a heart attack at the end of the video this time
I love you who ever made this video i never knew you could use a rubber band for that I’ve stip so many screws
Thanks
I remember so long ago when u used to stream bo3 multiplayer
Hey John,do you know any solutiones to the “LAN disconnected,LAN connected” error on PS5?
You are the only one i trust on this matter 😎
Excelent video
Hey John I recently got a digital edition of the PS5 which upper panel I need to remove to install the SSD in your demonstration u using the disc drive PS5 can u help me out plz and thank you.
What’s the largest size ssd you can put in the ps5 slim?
He's back.
You should do a SSD temperature test with the SSD expansion bay cover on vs off.
Some one already did and the ssd runs cooler without the cover. In fact my og fat ps5 with a 2tb firecuda 530 with EK heatsink was throttling while trying to load horizon burning shores. Reinstalled the game to ps5 ssd and ran fine. Reinstalled to m.2 ssd and game ran badly. Reformatted m.2 ssd did not fix the issue and reformat speeds were super bad. Took the cover off and speeds went back to normal and game ran fine. Maybe some ssds are different but the firecuda 530 is a beast of a gaming ssd and it definitely needs the cover off. If you don't have animals or a dirty place I'd leave the cover off.
About screw stripping. Would the PS5 screws be JIS?
Do you know like if a hard drive is failing what are the signs. I’ve been getting disconnected from lobby messages when playing dead or alive on ps4 and ps4 and I don’t know why. Is this because of HDD problems? As far as im aware I don’t seem to have bad internet. Unless it’s because it shows only during online gaming but when just browsing it’s not requiring much power so then the signs of bad internet don’t show ? So are hard drives not related to disconnected from lobby matches? And I just need a new router or modem? Plz help
This was so easy
That’s nothing I didn’t wanna over tighten mine with the ssd in already little snug should be good enough I hope 😂
What??? WHERE'S THE CLASSIC JOHN GLASSCOCK SIGN OFF???? This video sucks now.......
What’s wrong with using the SABRENT 2TB Rocket 4 Plus NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 Internal Extreme Performance SSD + M.2 NVMe heatsink Combo (SB-RKT4P-PSHS-2TB I have no problems with it, actually it works just as good as those 2 SSD cards u mention
My PlayStation stutters only when playing call of duty Fortnite games like that. Changed the hdmi changed tvs even switched power cords. Not an internet issue. do you know what this problem could be? Brought to a store to fix but they said they didn’t see the problem when they ran the games.
This black Friday I'm getting a 4 TB SSD
I keep putting it in and out again so many times and my PS5 is not reading the ssd at all. I have the screws put in properly and nothing is happening. No formatting ssd screen or anything. I spent over $170 on this ssd. How the hell do you get it to where it actually reads it!? Been trying this so many times now!
Not even registering my SN850.
I don't get it. Two different slims.
I'll try the lift thing though, didn't have to do that with the original.
Actually depending on the ssd and if it's the og fat ps5 leaving the ssd bay cover off is essential. Tests were done and thermals are way better with the cover off. Negative pressure cooling on ps5 is a dud. In fact my seagate firecuda 530 2 tb with EK heat sink was overheating and throttling while loading games like horizon burning shores. It was completely glitching out and took way longer to load and game was skipping after it loaded. Took the cover off and it's ran fine ever since. I was a big trust sonys engineers person before all this too. The youtubers were right. Just dust your ps5 often at the Intake and around it and vacuum floor area around it and dust in the expansion bay will be non existent. Keeping that ssd as cool as possible is more important. If you have animals though and ssd is running fine I'd say leave the cover on. I have no experience with the slim ps5 so I can only speak on the og fat ps5.
Are there any less expensive ssd‘s for the ps5 slim
I didn't have the right screwdriver and it started to strip. I grabbed my pocket knife and it worked perfect 😂 why did they screw it so tight tho???
No biddle bup ump bup skup bup at the end??? I'm feeling so lost now.....
can you show us how to clean ps5 slim please
So I got my ps5 slim, & I removed my SSD from my original ps5 to the slim, & when I put it in the slim, it won’t let me switch some of the games over when I’m low on internal storage
cual es la funcion de esa tarjeta?
my ps5 just doesn't read it , like at all, i turn it on, and it boots up normally. I have the official ssd drive just like you do. I returned it once and got a new one, and it still does the same thing
Did you have the latest software update installed first, if so did you installed the ssd while the console was off as well as unplugged if so did you restart the console after everything
This is about as easy an upgrade a you can get, no need for a video at all. If you watch this and still mess it up. Maybe crayons are more your speed.
The 2013 launch ps4 was much easier to upgrade the hard drive for me
Good 2 know🫡✈️💯🏃🏿♂️🖤🤙🏿
Is the PlayStation portal compatible with the M.2 SSD?
Because the portal doesn't work with etanded storage so I'm just wondering.
Any video game installed within the PlayStation 5 regardless of the storage be it internal or external can be streamed through the PlayStation Portal
What about if you have a launch model for the PS5? Have you got a video for that?
You use the same steps. The only difference is that the ps5 plates are removed a bit differently. If you are interested then John Glasscock does indeed have a video for your model
they dont make an expension card or a USB external drive like xbox?
No because that would make it proprietary as such will be the same tech but overpriced compared to what is already on the market available to the general consumer
So if your PS5 slim comes in a 1 TB hard drive then putting a 2 TB SSD then gives you 3 right? Or does it take place of the other internal memory?
Putting any size ssd adds more storage to the built in one, say you get a slim plus 8tb ssd you get 9tb in total
I dont know if you've gotten a comment from one of your old videos, but im looking to get it out there & im hoping to get your feedback.
I have a OG ps5 & i was feeling skeptical about getting the ssd. Ive been hearing rumors that if you put the ssd in your ps5 and upload your new storage either if its before or after you installed & played any ps5 or ps4 games they would be deleted.
If you put the ssd in the ps5 with so many game saved data on the console can they be deleted after you installed the ssd?
Nothing just nothing gets deleted if it's on the actual consul itself. The SSD just acts like extra storage. You can move shit to it. Save data stays on the consul always. Or in the cloud. It won't delete shit without telling you
@Blindperson38 I appreciate it, man. I really needed to find that out sooner.🤟👍
Thank you
I’m curious, I have a first gen PS5 and was thinking about getting a slim one in the near future. Can I hot swap my current SSD or will I have to reformat it first?
If you already have an original ps5, im genuinely asking, why would you want to get the slim? I mean honestly whats the point? You rather have a dinky little ps5 than the original? Im genuinely curious as to people care or want the slim
@@hjk3351I believe someone already made a test that the slim runs cooler than the original even with the original having the bigger heat sink ( not the revision heat sink) Also 1 year manufacturer warranty if you get the new slim. Only time will tell how good the motherboards are in the long run. Also the power supply clogging problem should've been addressed.Js.... I feel like you should only keep the original new in box if you plan on hacking the system which already has been done.
@@hjk3351 Normally, I wouldn't consider it. However, my PS5 has not worked right since I got it. My friends list almost never loads and because of this I can't ever start parties or set up invites. I know this sounds like a software issue but I've done literally everything I can software/network wise to fix the problem with no success. It's been almost 3 years of this now and none of my friends have ever experienced this nor does PS have any solutions.
@@Nitrogeek101Actually several tests I saw that were done concluded that the OG PS5 (at least the newer model from 2022 with the new chip that’s in the Slim) actually runs a bit cooler and quieter than the Slim. That was one of the main reasons I chose to get the OG model rather than the Slim. That and because I like the overall look and design of the OG model better, and the stand looks a lot better as well imo. Got it in December and am super happy with it so far.
@@matthewwells2017 looks like you didn't read my comment thoroughly I already stated the OG PS5 with bigger heat sink is already warmer( not the revision og) but okay 😂
I just got a 4TB external HD and called it a day. Didn’t feel like messing with any of this.
but you can't play ps5 games off an external hard drive so 4tb is kind of pointless
@@ryanshnoztwazzle8605 not really. I don’t play multiple games at once. Maybe two or three at a time max. And the time it takes to move them is not long at all. It works well. I don’t need all these games at the ready all the time.
@@ryanshnoztwazzle8605 You move the games you aren't currently playing to the external hdd, then move them back when you are ready to play them again.
this guy will never have kids because *it* will just shatter
did it on my lap with a drill
you didn't say peace.
Sony just don't think at time well! Only about money 💰. I still prefer the big bad white one anyways lol x topman top channel 👍
And to think you can just plug in a ssd on the xbox like a old school memory card. Crazy how simple it couldve been
And to think spending less than the 2tb plug in solution costs more than the 4tb install option on PlayStation 5
@bamban_garcia5562 also the xbox 2tb card is 250$ and the ps5 card is 390$ so not sure what you're trying to say
@@otis1716 That you can buy a 4tb ssd within the $200 price range for PlayStation 5 over wasting $400 om a 2tb ssd for box series
@@otis1716 Let's see official costs from the websites of both manufacturers are: seagate box series 512gb $89.99, 1tb $199.99, 2tb $379.99 / wd box series 512gb $79.99, 1tb $149.99
No idea how PlayStation 5 costs $390 when it can be upgraded with a 4tb within the $200 price range
The only ssd that costs more is the 8tb option
Doesnt it come with 1tb already? If im upgrading im getting atleast a 2tb
Can i put there the 2 tb version from playstation?
Mate you can put any compatible 4gen ssd with a minimal read speed of 5,500 megabits per second speed, if does not have to be the overpriced officially licensed ssd
as a pc gamer that assembles my own pc's this video makes me laugh, its a ssd instalation and not surgery
What should I do….?
I don't think anyone will see this but i am haveing a big problem with my internal SSD every time i startup my ps5 it rebuilds database and then SSD doesn't work on second startup it rebuild database and then works does anyone know how to fit this.
Back up everything on an external usb flash drive go with a 256gb size or 128gb if you have a big library, move everything installed within the internal memory into an external hard drive, turn off your console completely then connect the dualsense controller directly into it to start the console in safe mode, once that done clear your cache then rebuild your database
If you are talking about the ssd you can install within the PlayStation 5 as expanded storage, make sure you have the latest software update installed before you do anything, make sure its a compatible gen4 ssd 250gb or upwards that has a read speed of 5,500 megabits per second or higher max storage capacity is now 8tb, if you have the 980 samsung pro that one requires a firmware update directly from samsung to make it console compatible otherwise you have a very expensive brick
Make sure the ssd comes with a heatsink installed already or install your own to avoid overheating
Turn off the console then unplug everything from it now install the ssd, after that do a read / write speed test a couple of times until you are satisfied with the numbers after plugging everything back into the PlayStation 5 make sure to restart your console so the expanded storage can be used properly
Any technical issues tend to be resolved with clearing the cache or rebuilding the database
Hope that helps
@@bamban_garcia5562 I got it working again. Apparently, I just didn't screw it all the way in. However, thank you for the helpful information you have given me.
Now someone buy me one 😆
Screw is in so tight
Can't imagine the bullying this man went trough in his school years lol💀 just check his last name and you will get it😂
is 990 pro with heatsink 4tb good?
As long as it is not the 980 pro you should be good since samsu removed their firmware update to make it console compatible
I used a knife and they come out eazy
Can't you use any other number 1 screwdriver? Does it have to be a Philips?😂
I can’t believe people are recommending the PlayStation ssd ffs it’s just a regular wd black drive either way a PlayStation logo on the box
Are people really dumb enough to not reattach the SSD Expansion Bay cover?
I never bothered putting mine back on, it’s been off for years now. Recently upgraded to 2tb and I considered putting it back on, but I couldn’t be bothered looking for the cover.
@@Cloysterpete Wow, I could never have imagined this was an actual occurrence. Well, I do hope the cover reaches you somehow in the future.
@@Cloysterpetewhy? You want dust to get into your expensive and exposed ssd? Man people just dont care about things anymore
@hjk3351 bro or people have had their m.2 ssds overheat and throttle. My 2tb seagate firecuda 530 with EK heatsink couldn't even run horizon burning shores until I took the cover off. Ps5 always been in a open area and spotless. Was 100% a ssd overheating throttling issue from the cover. I ruled everything else out before I took the cover off as I was probably expansion bay cover from launch. People have done tests and cover off is actually cooler. Have had my cover off for almost a year now and no dust issues and also no throttling issues. The negative pressure cooling is a dud. Unless your super dirty and have animals and don't vacuum leaving the cover off is better for the ssd and cooler. I was like you capping for the bay cover but I figured out the hard way.
@@canadaspy007 well i was unaware of that happening, ive never checked my ssd but ive never had a problem with my ps5 of any kind so far but i live in a basement which is room temperature or maybe a bit cooler and it is in any open area with plenty of ventilation
Just get a heat sink SSD
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
HELLO MR GLASSCOCK
this guy just wants our views 😂
saying the very basics all of us already know
Excuse me but $900 for a ssd!!? 8TB is nice but that price. That's a scam🤣😭
You pay for the PlayStation logo on the box, it’s actually just a a regular off the shelf wd black drive, if you want this one you can get the non PlayStation branded version for $50-$100
@@Dumby sir he got the 8tb in the link. Thats what Im talking bout.😐 he said he got 4tb version that's 250. So thats a misinformation he put up.
@@bennythegreat3403 I got my 4tb wd black sn850x at amazon during a sale for around $190, so yes 4tb do go lower than $250 also no misinformation since several manufactures do sell their 4tb ssds at that starting price
Silicon Power for example has theirs at $250
I would rather pay money for a professional technician to do all the work for me, that's the easy way to upgrade your PS5.
If you get lost in such stupid and simple things, imagine having to assemble a gaming PC. Even explaining how to unscrew a screw or how to insert an NVME, you're not practical.
I wont be needing one any time soon seeing as there are no real next gen games coming out anytime soon. When death stranding and gta6 come out then we can talk. But for now my ps5 is nothing more than a glorified ps4 game player without a web browser. What a pathetic console gen. How long will we blame covid?
You didn’t talk about transferring Sony operating system ???
U dont transer the OS, thats built-in to the system and runs on servers which is how PS5's OS is so dynamic and constantly changing.
@@TheeThunderGod the os does not run on the servers 😂😂. It is on the internal SSD which you do not remove
@@majorasspain5341 its on the SSD. How it operates dynamically is on servers 🤡. It changes by the minute, thats not from the SSD. Its on the SSD but its updated dynamically and constantly by servers. Get it? Its online powered, not SSD powered. Cant constantly change stuff on it without having to update if it was JUST running off the SSD. The OS is on the SSD, its not ran by the SSD or console.
Or you can use common sense.
So, i took this all apart like you said and was just about to put the cover back on until walmart called the cops on me. Crazy!
