I appreciate that you added in the fact that Techno wasn't just mindlessly killing people. The second he saw Ranboo, he gave him back the book that had been taken from him and told him to run. I haven't really seen many people talk about that moment. Reminds me of what he said after the Butcher Army came after him. The whole "Those that have treated me with kindness, I will repay that kindness tenfold. And those that treat me with injustice, that use me, that hunt me down, that hurt my friends; I shall repay that injustice a thousand times over."
I love and hate myself for this, but whenever i read or hear a story, i always look at it from both sides and then feel conflicted for who i should root for and who i should hate. In the end, Techno and Tommy were both victims and villains in their own way. But there is one thing that shall forever settle this for me.....BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!
No one in this story is a hero. Everyone in the SMP has blood on their hands, intentionally or not (the latter is specifically for ranboo). Some people only have drops on their fingertips, while others are drenched in the crimson liquid.
I just cannot express enough how I LOVE how you included Phil in this exchange. He was a little quiet, but his lines are essential for understanding their side of this conflict. Especially this little thing - Tommy: "You are selfish!", Phil: "And you are not?". You are doing such an amazing and important job by flashing his lines out with te visuals. Great stuff.
Reminds me of the anime Durarara. The whole plot is revolved around conflict that's carefully and meticulously orchestrated by an info broker who wants to play the role of God, so he tries to create a war that only he can win. The similarities between Dream and this character, Izaya, are uncanny. Straight down to manipulating the mentally weak character and playing "Father" to the one most easily influenced.
Might I just say I love the slight show of hurt in Techno's eyes when he was reminding Tommy that he was willing to fight for him but he betrayed him. The look of FEAR on Quackities face was PERFECT. I might like Techno's story a bit more. XD either way THIS animation showed both sides SO WELL. Please continue to make amazing animations.
(Incoming pretentiousness!) Ngl, I can see Tommy and Techno’s perspective. On the one hand, Tommy’s very forgiving of things. Yes, he’s salty about things (Techno’s killing Tubbo), however he does end up forgiving things. He wanted to talk Techno down only to worsen the situation due to some self-reflection coming in a very tense situation. He lost things of great value to himself, as well as to others, and thus has so much strife occurred. Even in seeking to undo the damage he’s done, more came, not so much as a response to his actions but in general. He had no say on what others did when things happened-the Butcher Army, the attempted assassination of Dream, the Bloodvine Egg situation, and much more. He has no control over things yet he does cause an impact on matters you wouldn’t expect, either inspiring people to action or having dealt them a blow in some way which led to some handicapping. Techno, on the other hand, sees a faulty system in need of reform to the days of barbarism and savagery-where all are equal in opportunity and position. Tubbo and Tommy *were* using him as a living war machine, while Wilbur not only kept his side of the deal but went above and beyond it. He made to be peaceful only to be hunted down and executed, with Quackity’s argument falling through like sand. Being called a tyrant when he is undoing a flawed system at its foundation only worsens the rage he feels, leading to greater acts of violence. Frankly are they both right. Order falls in on itself and anarchy plateaus quickly, thus requiring the reoccurring cycling through both. When a faction is formed and growing, it requires something to direct itself against-victory, tragedy, struggle and progress come to mind. When these things are lost, a faction’s stability begins to falter. Rebellion against said faction brings it to become stronger like the refining of ore in a smelter until its purity is unquestionable and its strength unbreakable. Ahhhh, the beauty of Chaos, never ending growth and pause in equal measure
@@Grimmijaggers Nuance in storytelling is a marvelous thing, honestly. It's a shame that lots of modern movies miss out on such a crucial detail when amateur actors, pro gamers, and the occasional musician can make stories that are hundreds of times more engaging with less in terms of visuals. I mean, Technoblade is portraying a terrorist and Tommy's portraying a capitalist, both doing whatever it takes to fulfill their goals. By all accounts, terrorism can be fabricated to rally support to a cause, making it a useful tool and not entirely a bad thing-not to mention that revolutionaries and rebels tend to qualify under this. Capitalism, meanwhile, puts it to an act of work and income to determine success yet it's so easily exploited by anyone with enough coin or object of significance (a couple of discs, perhaps).
@@Grimmijaggers "In the 41st Millenium, there is only War! Chaos is the Great Enemy!" except it's not and it unites the Imperium in a common goal to defy the gods. In Dream SMP, Techno openly acknowledged (OOC) that everyone wanted to be the good guy and took the antagonistic role with glee. Every story has conflict. Ranboo's memories and morality, Tubbo & Tommy's priorities and capacity for leadership, Techno's anarchic drive, Philza's want for justice, Quackity's grudge, and on and on and on. The show works because the players-the *characters* -are driving the plot rather than the other way around. A lotta shows aim to be character-driven, and some are, yet others are plot driven. Then there are those which are simultaneously plot and character driven, which are rare (in my experience) yet come out on top as phenomenal stories to explore.
Everybody forgets about phil. I loved how you gave him spotlight here. How they look up to him in shock. How he's by technoblades side. How you shoe him laughing. And him becoming a plane
The things I liked most in this animatice were: 1- Tubbo's horns grow over time as he becomes more of a tyrant, like, on the exile flashback his horns are smaller 2- The mix between the current discussion and the theseus flashback is just so good 3- Techno chasing Quackity and their fight afterwards is just awesome 4- Buff Techno, I love Bulk Pig
Can we talk about how Techno and Phil protected Ranboo in the beginning by telling him to get away and reassuring him? Like they didn’t want him to get caught in the crossfire of a battle he didn’t wanna be a part of ;-;
THIS WAS AMAZING OMG HOW YOU SHOWED BOTH SIDES SO WELL AND INCLUDED PHIL HERE TO HOW YOU MADE EVERY SINGLE LINE LOOK SO IMPACTFUL, HOW IT IMPACTED THE OTHER SIDE SO WELL, HOW IT'S ANIMATED, THEIR REACTIONS, EVERYTHING, IT WAS SO GOOD
out of all the animatics that have tackled this scene between tommy and techno i feel like you really hit the mood right. techno in a lot of the other ones has always been conveyed as just as upset as tommy himself was, but techno has never really struck me as the kind of character who would express being frustrated by crying??? yknow??? at least not in front of somebody like tommy. the way ur posturing and expressions convey this almost sadistic angle to him is a great rendition of how he feels abt the situation
I feel like this is the most accurate depiction of this scene. Don't get me wrong, I love the touching descriptions where techno is crying, but this one also shows just how much fun techno is having
This just gave me a good refresh of why I don't like techno's arguments here. He *wasn't* up front with Tommy, he hid "destroy l'manberg" from Tommy on his list of goals. He tried to turn Tommy against his friends so he would be his little underling and do his bidding. Techno tries to sidestep and deny every argument against him while Tommy accepts he's done wrong before but tries to better himself. Tommy sees the festival as betrayal because techno has shown he could've fought them all off because he literally did that a few seconds after he killed tubbo. Techno says he was peaceful even though he was stockpiling wither skulls to fight l'manberg well before the butcher army appeared. Techno also never admits what he did was wrong even once, never says killing tubbo was wrong but necessary from his pov, never says he's sorry for destroying l'manberg, never says he used Tommy, just keeps ignoring it and refusing to learn. Tl;dr this has reminded me how much of a hypocrite techno is.
Yesss thank you I love Techno's character, but people are unbelievably biased and act like he's done nothing wrong and blame everything on Tommy. There's plenty to criticise Tommy for, but that doesn't mean that Techno is free from criticism neither, his character has plenty of flaws.
Yeee exactly! Techno is a character with a very clear and specific goal, so when L'Manberg becomes destroyed, he has succeeded in that goal. That's why I drew him like that.
in my opinion, both techno and tommy are loyal, just tommy is loyal to the people that he enjoys, and its like a tier list, so when it came to either techno or tubbo, he chose the one he cared about more, while techno is loyal to an idea, so if people were fighting against each other, he would choose the one that fits his ideals more, while tommy would choose by person he cares about.
I love how you drew Philza’s expressions! My favorite part was when you had them flying away. I loved this speech from techno so I’m happy you animated it!
Half of this speech is tommy saying something, and techno responding fully in one sentence shutting him down. "You killed him, even when he wasn't the president!" "Yeah, that's fair."
This animatic is exactly why Technoblade is my favorite character over the others, it's beautiful. We have him wondering about the constant side-switching, the weird stances on whether forgiveness should be offered or to who, the questions about the DISKS-- Love his consistent motivations and aloof character, live for it
When he says "I walked in" that part is so beautifully drawn, it shows how at that moment techno was willing to fight for tommy. I love this video so much
LOVED the part where Phil swoops in and gets techno. You’ve somehow portrayed him as more than just a supporting character while also focusing on techno. This made me smile lol, great job on it
Okay I’m still relatively new to this fandom and none of the other animatics have had this entire interaction so kudos to you for drawing it out. Secondly I just about busted a gut at the part where Techno says he’s gonna kill Quackity because he has actual armor (4:15) bless you
Omg I love it so much, I can’t- All emotions and details, like Philza’s hand at Ranboo’s shoulder, Quackity sweating right after Techno said that he will kill him, or flashback “Then die like one”, and part where Philza catches Techno and they’re flying away was so badass :D
I love how dream is shown only 2 times, and once is in a flashback. It makes so much sense, how he is puppitering from the sidelines, doing nothing but watching and pulling one string at a time. And In the end, he was there, all along, influencing everything.
this is so cool oh my god. i'm glad somebody made an animatic that included the full conversation... so many of tommy's lines are overlooked here and i think so many people misunderstand him for that. he and techno both had so many good moments and that should definitely be appreciated more. great work dude!!
Thank you! Yeah, a lot of people seem to forget that Tommy had his side of the story and his reasons. I love both Techno and Tommy so I wanted to give each side a chance.
I love how Technoblade is depicted here. This is how I believe the character would have looked during these scenes. He is acting arrogant and aggressive but we get a few flashes of sadness even just for a second or two. I will always see techno as the anti villain of the dream smp. (That means someone who does evil things with good intentions. Like Killmonger, Thanos and even Red hood in his first appearance. They all do evil things but they also legitimately that their goal is a good thing.) Technoblade legitimately believes that government is the cause of all the suffering. And in the case of the dream smp he actually has a point. Sorry about that tangent. Back to my original point I believe that in this scene technoblade would have presented himself as invincible. An unstoppable warrior with razor sharp weapons and teeth. Like we see in this animatic. But under the surface is a heartbroken man who is incredibly hurt that one of the only people that he had ever truly trusted decided to betray him.
when ever Tommy yells or say's, "The discs" I always end up thinking about the scene where he yell's " *the discs we're always worth more than you* " and than my heart shatter's into tiny pieces I have to pick up. ( *again.* )
I was in Ranboos stream when this happened so I don't think we heard all of this, and now that I've heard what they both actually said without cutting out what Tommy said, THEY BOTH HAVE A POINT LMAO (I LOVE THIS SO MUCH ACTUALLY IT'S AMAZING)
This is so great, the other animatics that I saw of this scene drew techno overly sad. This just seems so much more true to how it was in the original scene, plus you didn't put background music. You just earned yourself another sub
Grimm, this is the best compilation of the important mid-battle conversations anyone has made. The choice to start off with Ranboo recieving the book is excellent as it goes to highlight the difference between Techno and Tommy's stances. I'm also very impressed at your focus and inclusion of other characters in the conversation, and that you make sure to focus on who's speaking which is vital for Tubbo who is very quiet and hard to hear in this scene. That is stellar attention to detail that stands in stark contrast to all other interpretations that try to present it as an argument solely between the pig and the child. Your art was fantastic, and you have built the very best snapshot of the mid-battle conversations that mattered. I look forward to seeing what you can do with some of the other major events like Ranboo's prison visits and with more light hearted fare such as Ranboo and Techno's excellent adventure. Continue the outstanding work while I do my best to share it far and wide.
I think this is one of the best animatics I've seen about this day!!! Tbh I watched so many using those dialogue lines between Tommy and Techno, but this is the one that captured best the freaking chaos it was that day!! Also, the participation of Philza was very welcome, because he had strong motives to be there (his line "Since I was forced to kill my own son, you idiot!" was really powerful) and seeing him was a delight! Well done, champ!!
I honestly like your take on Techno. I feel like after being betrayed many times he would’ve also gone insane and lash out on everyone who betrayed him except for his real friends, keep up the good content!😁
Since everyone else is talking about Techno, Tommy, Tubbo, and Phil, I just want to bring up Ranboo at the very beginning. Techno went out of his way to tell him to run. That frantic "I don't have anything against you" exchange right before he destroys everything hits me so hard. His relationship with Ranboo is so fascinating to me. They've been at odds, they've fought, they've been peer pressured, but Techno is willing to not only SPARE him but give him the chance to escape. It's wild, and I love it.
Wow you did so much of it it's soooo good and you did a flashback to prove both party's points in some way or form. This is great. It's not one-sided but all over and that wonderful. Great job.
wow this is so good though!! i love the extra tension from the posing like techno lifting tommy up and tubbo catching him and the bit with quackity and phil flying them off. just amazing!!
"YOU BETRAYED MY LIKE 12 TIMES!" Will always make me laugh, no matter the intensity. Even in fantastically animated and perfectly expressed expressions.

@@fernandogutierrez6543 I mean, he told chat it’s more true, him saying that just to get out of a conversation would be a Tommy move tbh
Except Tommy’s point could’ve been changed if they helped techno and not just watched him kill tubbo.
@@StarPichu12 What do you mean? Him being bad at expressing himself is part of his character and that's good acting, they weren't saying he is bad at it, his character is, that's why they said "Rp Tommy" (Rp means roleplay).
Ye
Techno has a tendency for violence and death, but not to the point of mindless killing. It's usually revenge or payback.
Ranboo: Exists.
Techno: Leave.
Understandable.
I like how Phil flies in and carries Techno away, so cinematic, also how he’s laughing like a mad man

YES THANK YOU
Amen
Finally a person like me who can't pick a side
yes
No one in this story is a hero. Everyone in the SMP has blood on their hands, intentionally or not (the latter is specifically for ranboo). Some people only have drops on their fingertips, while others are drenched in the crimson liquid.
I just cannot express enough how I LOVE how you included Phil in this exchange. He was a little quiet, but his lines are essential for understanding their side of this conflict. Especially this little thing - Tommy: "You are selfish!", Phil: "And you are not?". You are doing such an amazing and important job by flashing his lines out with te visuals. Great stuff.
Eeee thank you so much, I'm so glad you like it! I love Phil and wanted to include him.
AND PHILZA TAKING TECHNO ON HIS WINGS, THATS WHOLESOME
I had to
Even if it's not canon because Philza's wings are hurt
That Dream face at the end. It makes me feel like he orchestrated the whole thing from start to finish.
Y U P
Reminds me of the anime Durarara. The whole plot is revolved around conflict that's carefully and meticulously orchestrated by an info broker who wants to play the role of God, so he tries to create a war that only he can win. The similarities between Dream and this character, Izaya, are uncanny. Straight down to manipulating the mentally weak character and playing "Father" to the one most easily influenced.
Durara was a really solid anime, I enjoyed watching it.
Went to like, saw this had 666 likes, changed my mind 😂
Might I just say I love the slight show of hurt in Techno's eyes when he was reminding Tommy that he was willing to fight for him but he betrayed him. The look of FEAR on Quackities face was PERFECT.
I might like Techno's story a bit more. XD either way THIS animation showed both sides SO WELL. Please continue to make amazing animations.

(Incoming pretentiousness!)
Ngl, I can see Tommy and Techno’s perspective.
Yeah exactly! Neither side is fully right/wrong, there's a lot more nuance.
*In the end, chaos wins*
I think Dream may have said that
Facts

I adore Phil, so really wanted to give him a bit of spotlight
The things I liked most in this animatice were:
1- Tubbo's horns grow over time as he becomes more of a tyrant, like, on the exile flashback his horns are smaller
2- The mix between the current discussion and the theseus flashback is just so good
3- Techno chasing Quackity and their fight afterwards is just awesome
4- Buff Techno, I love Bulk Pig
Thank you, I'm so glad you like those things! I had a lot of fun when drawing this animatic.
Can we talk about how Techno and Phil protected Ranboo in the beginning by telling him to get away and reassuring him?
Like they didn’t want him to get caught in the crossfire of a battle he didn’t wanna be a part of ;-;
“Don’t speak to me of loyalty!” Has to be one of the best quotes of the Dream SMP.

I love how techno is smiling the whole time. It gives him that "quiet kid finally snaps" kind of vibe
Glad you like it!
Everybody gangsta till the quit kid shows up with 200 invisible rabid dogs.
out of all the animatics that have tackled this scene between tommy and techno i feel like you really hit the mood right. techno in a lot of the other ones has always been conveyed as just as upset as tommy himself was, but techno has never really struck me as the kind of character who would express being frustrated by crying??? yknow??? at least not in front of somebody like tommy. the way ur posturing and expressions convey this almost sadistic angle to him is a great rendition of how he feels abt the situation
Ahhhh I'm so glad you like it! And I agree with you, Techno never came across to me as the crying type, especially not in front of others.
I feel like this is the most accurate depiction of this scene. Don't get me wrong, I love the touching descriptions where techno is crying, but this one also shows just how much fun techno is having
I'm glad you like my take on the scene and how I draw Techno!
Thank you so much for including the Ranboo interaction in this, I feel like it is one of the most overlooked parts of that event.
No worries!
A lot of moments are overlooked, which is a shame because there are so many good moments!
The part where Techno tells "GET BACK HERE!" Is so well drawn. You really perfected the balance of humor and darkness on this one!
ey thank you so much!
Phil picking up techno and flying away brings me serotonin
Yesss thank you
I love Techno's character, but people are unbelievably biased and act like he's done nothing wrong and blame everything on Tommy.
There's plenty to criticise Tommy for, but that doesn't mean that Techno is free from criticism neither, his character has plenty of flaws.
Tho I will say Techno has said agrred when tommy said that he killed tubbo for no good reason like this animatic, he did acknowledge it ..
i love how you made techno so smug and confident. he knows what he's doing, he knows he's won, so he'll speak his mind on it
Yeee exactly!
Yup!! They're both loyal but to different things!

I’m glad it was the whole scene instead of “I’m a person” part. 10/10! :D
Haha thank you!
I never heard Phil a “and you’re not” when their talking about being selfish, now I did and it hits deep.
Half of this speech is tommy saying something, and techno responding fully in one sentence shutting him down.
"You killed him, even when he wasn't the president!"
"Yeah, that's fair."
Techno's one liners make anyone shut down, let's be completely honest X'D
He does the same with Quackity.
I like how instead of making techno sad in this scene, he has a smile on his face
Sad Techno doesn't really appeal to me, so I went with a mocking/angry Techno who knows he's won and is just adding insult to injury.
This animatic is exactly why Technoblade is my favorite character over the others, it's beautiful. We have him wondering about the constant side-switching, the weird stances on whether forgiveness should be offered or to who, the questions about the DISKS--

I love how dream is shown only 2 times, and once is in a flashback. It makes so much sense, how he is puppitering from the sidelines, doing nothing but watching and pulling one string at a time. And In the end, he was there, all along, influencing everything.
yep, exactly
that's what makes him so cool
this is so cool oh my god. i'm glad somebody made an animatic that included the full conversation... so many of tommy's lines are overlooked here and i think so many people misunderstand him for that. he and techno both had so many good moments and that should definitely be appreciated more. great work dude!!
My thoughts exactly

This is so great, the other animatics that I saw of this scene drew techno overly sad. This just seems so much more true to how it was in the original scene, plus you didn't put background music. You just earned yourself another sub
Thank you so much!
I'm not really one for sad scenes, hence drawing Techno on the angrier side.
Omg thank you so much for you lovely comment, it made me very happy!

Technoblade is like protecting his adopted brother Walmart Technoblade and Phil is being a protective father.
Great job.
