Cause he said “The reason I didn’t kill you is because”. Which made me think he stop himself from saying “Because I care about you”. I bet his next orders to Sam Nook is to keep Tommy safe from getting to the Prison. Nice animation I love your work!
Thank you so much! And I think you're completely right. If it had been anybody else, Sam would have killed them (maybe not Ranboo or Tubbo), because that is what is required of him as the Warden, that's his job. Really, him caring for Tommy is his one and biggest weakness imo.
he's referring to why he didn't take Tommy out of the prison when it was in lockdown. He didn't know that Dream would do that to Tommy, it was badly chosen wording on c!Sam's part.

Both didn't want Dream to have power again. Both did it in their own way. Tommy tried to kill him and Sam tried to eliminate any risk of him escaping. The combination of both those attempts have brought Dream what he needed to finally use the power he has hold on to for *weeks* while being tortured. He is the one who cursed the situation, he is the one who actually killed Ghostbur, he is the one making Sam recent hus lack of action when Tommy died so much that he became more brutal and willing to sacrifice nearly every, even those close to him, to keep him in prison. I do get both sides of the argument on who is responsible for what happened and at first I was thinking that Tommy was responsible for the situation but Sam for Ghostburs death because he had many options to save him. After realising and remembering that psychopath in the background I do think both created the situation but the only person at fault for the horrible things happening is Dream and that's what has to be focused on. Neather Sam nor Tommy could let out their sadness and anger against Dream so they turned and attacked each other. Ps: yesss I'm talking about the character's and the story and not the actual streamers because I love all of them and I'm thankful that they made this engaging story unfold ^^
Sam's character is so complex and as much as people can dislike him (c!Sam) I still feel so terrible for everything and feel sorry. Like he has tried so hard to keep everything in place and not only has he had to accept the biggest responsibility as a prison warden but face the consequences of loosing his closest friends because of it
I really agree with Sam tho. Like what else should he have done? Tommy violated the rules that are in place for everyone's safety. If he wanted Dream dead he should have gone through the proper channels. As much as I hate to say it, I think Tommy was in the wrong here and Sam's actions were entirely justified
@@sara-ceciliamcg3668 I agree that Tommy made a mistake. I don't think Sam should've gone so hard on him though, even if it could have been a bluff. He didn't want to kill him, most likely because he cares about him, so Sam had to get it through to Tommy how badly he messed up _somehow._ But whether he meant it or not, he shouldn't have blamed Tommy for everything bad happening at the prison when most of it was just Tommy being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he's gone through so much already, he didn't need all that weight on him. Doesn't mean Tommy's blameless though. I just feel bad for both of them because mistakes were made and they both definitely should have done things differently, but they just wanted what was best.
@@monniemai1592 the thing is, Sam kind of did have to go that hard. He's in charge of keeping a criminal in check, one of the most dangerous on the server at that. Sam's already had issues at the Prison and is definitely feeling the stress of his job. From his perspective, Tommy tried to break Dream out even if he has no idea why. He panicked and didn't want to fuck up again especially with Tommy. It probably wasn't a bluff, I bet Sam was fully prepared to kill the intruder but when he saw it was Tommy he couldn't do it. I've always found that Tommy's flaw is that he's very self centered, it's his perspective and only that which makes stuff like this really interesting.

I don't know why he didn't tell BOTH Tommy and Ghostbur to walk over, since Ghostbur could have also been working with Tommy. He could have put Tommy in a different cell. He could have made his own oath instead of Dream's oath. It's those little faults that overcome him, since he's in a poor mental state and is likely to make those mistakes, with each consequence making him more and more unstable. Its frustrating to sit through and it can make people angry at Sam or make them pity him. Either way this is just, a sad mess. plus i dont think Sam has any idea or a sense of empathy on what the revival book actually does so that also makes things frustrating/pitiful
@@fintan737 (Definitely talking in terms of and acknowledging that they are characters) I actually agree that Sam should have brought them both over, I suppose the argument could be made that he wanted to get the potential hostile away from Ghostbur since he wasn't sure that they knew about the intruder. I do feel so sorry for Sam since his mental health is starting to crack under the pressure of being the warden. Unfortunately Sam's failing to properly separate Sam and The Warden like he wanted to and that's affecting his work. If he was being objective like he should be, Tommy would have been locked in a cell away from Dream but that would make him the bad guy and a villain. He doesn't seem to want to hurt Tommy since he's already feeling guilty about his death in the prison and as such just wants him out of the prison. I understand his actions and find them very believable, great acting Sam. 10/10
That ending to me perfectly encapsulates how Sam must be feeling. Having his friends die by Dream, hurting his friends to make sure Dream doesn't escapes, and even having to possibly kill one of his friends to ensure Dream never escapes. There really is so much anyone can take before they snap and I think Sam is at that breaking point soon. As for Wilburs revival, chaos is going to come to the SMP.
I'm waiting for the moment Sam just snaps and does something really awful/extreme (yes worse than what he did to Ponk). I already have an AU idea brewing, so if I don't get that, I'll be doing it anyway lmao
Oh holy, Sam is really going insane because of Dream Almost like he's also a little puppet of Dream, he sees what Dream had did even while in prison so he forbid anyone to go there trying to protect everyone from his crazy plans It's shocking how he hasn't killed Dream yet, is he that merciful? I think when it's just them two, Sam can deal with it because there's nobody else Dream can use against him, but when Tommy or others are involved, Sam becomes vulnerable. He hasn't killed Dream yet because he can use the revival book, and (from what I understand), he wants to keep him alive for that because that was the only way Tommy is currently alive, and Sam sees that as important.

@@Grimmijaggers honestly, I hope Sam and Tommy have a talk together about what happened at the prison, along with Tommy explaining to Sam why he did what he did and telling him about how bad the revival book is, because Dream really can (to the current information people have about the book) kill and un kill anyone for as long as he wants. That means he can torture, manipulate, and control whoever he wants as soon as he gets out and gets armor and weapons. It’s pretty scary actually.

This hurts so much. Especially since I loved Sam as a father figure to Tommy that defended his actions on the server. To see Sam fighting with Tommy and blaming him, and then the breakdown after.... this was so well done. 10/10
A little headcanon I have for Sam: (Warning, essay ahead) So we know that despite Ranboo's appearance of duality, he has said specifically that he does not have bipolar disorder canonically, as he does not want to misrepresent the illness. However, based on Sam's recent behavior (particularly in this very scene), it occurred to me that maybe c!Sam does suffer from something like bipolar disorder. If you think a little too hard about it: February 28th - He suffered a major trauma when Tommy died under his watch Mid-March - Tortured Ponk to ensure the prison's security Mid-April - Threatened to kill Tommy, while at the same time seeking to protect him from Dream c!Sam has consistently behaved in a strange manner where he alternates between being empathetic and caring about the safety and feelings of others, and other times when he hurts the people he cares for most in a twisted desire to protect them. A lot of people have complained that this is simply poor character design or execution, but I think it would be interesting if it was due to Sam splitting in two because of his desperate need to protect everyone, especially those he loves, from Dream, yet incidentally hurting those same loved ones in the process. Sorry if this is confusing or poorly written, I'm very tired and possibly braindead at the moment lol. Hope you enjoyed my off the cuff theorizing! I think it's certainly an interesting theory. My rambling thoughts: What I think is happening is not necessarily bipolar, but Sam cracking under the pressure of his duty as Warden and Quackity's expectations of him. He wants to protect and help the server, and keeping Dream in the prison is what he thinks is the best way, meanwhile caring for many people who keep getting in the way of his duties (Ponk, Tommy) while at the same time trying to keep a work partnership with Quackity who expects him to be an emotionless soldier-type that doesn't let his feelings get in the way. I think Sam's character is an extreme example of somebody's personal and work life getting mixed up and not being able to deal with it. He doesn't have a comfort zone per say, nobody he thinks he can really turn to or depend on. I think he's really cracking under the pressure. Aw thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been seeing everyone saying that c!sam is a bad person but I think that he’s just misunderstood and does things because of his past trauma and he only sooo cautious about Dream getting out because he knows that he’ll just target Tommy so he said all of those mean things to make sure Tommy doesn’t get into the prison again like he’s trying to scare him away from it even if it ruins the friendship they have because c!Sam just wants Tommy to stay safe An exaggerated theory? Yes, but I think it might have potential Plus everyone gives Tommy the benefit of the doubt, when he does dumb stuff caused from trauma people excuse it but when Sam does it people act like he’s a villain
I think it's mainly because not a lot of people know about his lore all that much, so they don't have the background knowledge, they just see the surface character (which tbh that's what happens with majority of the characters)

Tommy is so good at acting it's actually scary. He sounds like he's genuinely on the verge of tears. That's what being a theater kid can do. (Yes, Tommy was/is a theater kid. I'm pretty sure he confirms it on episode 9 of the chuckle sandwich podcast.)
the way you put all the quotes as thoughts of Sam in his mind is just awesome and really sums up what he's going through. I really belive that this is what happened as soon as Tommy left the Prison
You know, it seems that Tommy's death has made Sam into something... different. Because, before Tommy died, if a breakout didn't happen, Sam was pretty chill. Now, he basically has anxiety. Now, all he cares about is the prison, because this isn't the Sam we knew, because the Sam we knew would NEVER have ripped off Ponk's arm just for the prison, who mind you, he had a relationship with. And the Sam that we knew, wouldn't threaten Tommy with literal DEATH just to keep the prison secure. He literally felt remorse when Tommy died, he felt like it was HIS fault that Tommy died, yet here he is now, threatening the same person who he felt was HIS fault for dying with death if he ever stepped near the grounds of the prison. In Sam's pursuit to stop people from getting hurt by Dream, in his pursuit to keep the prison secure at all times to keep Dream inside the prison, he has turned himself into a cold, uncaring, drone who cares about only ONE thing and nothing else, the prison.

I have a headcannon/theory that Sam is afraid of Dream coming back as a ghost, which is why he doesn't want anyone to kill Dream. Plus, being alone with Dream can't be good for his psyche, either way he's definitely not in a good state mentally.

ooh nice attention to detail with Dream's eye flashing and Sam looking back. Dream's control taking the form of green strings is very interesting, and for Sam to have been so close there by simply looking Dream in the eye for a second was a great artistic choice.
yeah i get both sides on one hand tommy believes for plenty of reasons that dream will escape and that once he does he will use everyone as puppets by either repeatedly killing them or by keeping them in line with threats of death and on the other hand Sam is being manipulated by dream and he wants to keep tommy safe but doesn't understand why tommy is so afraid
Sam's single priority is to keep the prisoner contained and preferably alive. If you look at all the protocols, the safety and comfort of visitors is not prioritized. It is more important for the visitor to be easy to kill should they attempt to break the prisoner out than for them to be safe. They are completely unarmed and unarmored, set to 1/2 a heart. With the moving platform there is no way for Sam to intervene in time to save the visitor should the prisoner get violent. They could let the visitor wear loaner armor (still inferior to Sam's netherite). They could let them heal to full hearts. They could keep the netherite barrier up. None of that is the case. The guards take no responsibility for the vistitors' safety.
Every time...EVERY time I hear Ghostbur whimper that he's scared, my maternal instincts kick in and I start trying to go for c!Dream's jugular, but then I realize there's a screen in my way. I can't help it, he's our lttle Ghost baby.

This reopened a deep wound. Ghostbur, on that ledge, terrified, Tommy desperately trying to get Sam to let him over there, Sam simply shouting at Tommy, not even caring about what's happening to Ghostbur, it all just hurts. The way Sam just says "Everything is perfect when it's just me and him," the art style, _Ghostbur, terrified, on the ledge,_ it's beautiful, but it HURTS.
Good thing I have a therapy session tomorrow, I can cry about ghostbur's death some more without being judged since i got my therapist into the dream smp somehow

1 I love the maskless Sam design 2 the creeper hiss was very well placed for the height of the anger in that situation 3 the stress and anguish of Sam at the end that was beautifully made. 4 why you be pulling at our heartstrings so much! First the ranboo animation and now this! 5 ghostbur fear, tommys and sams anger at eachother, the way dream threatened ghostbur *chefs kiss* 6 you are caught up I fear for what is next now that Wilbur is back... You and sadist are what make the drama and angst of the dream smp so amazing. The time you put into your art and storytelling is wonderful keep us to great work
it's sad because tommy just wanted to kill dream so badly that it's why he got caught. it's like an irresistible urge and how he tries to swing the axe at him early but is blocked by the netherite blocks is like a dog wanting to chase a squirrel but is unable to because of it being held back by the owner (of course no one being the owner though that'd be weirdchamp in this context) and that's why it's a small mistake but such a big consequence. i really sympathize with c!tommy..

I've thought the same until I remembered that through all the fighting between those two and their attempts to shift blame back and forth, Dream the actual perpetrator, killer, manipulater, gaslighter and murdere has been ignored.
Both didn't want Dream to have power again. Both did it in their own way. Tommy tried to kill him and Sam tried to eliminate any risk of him escaping. The combination of both those attempts have brought Dream what he needed to finally use the power he has hold on to for *weeks* while being tortured.
He is the one who cursed the situation, he is the one who actually killed Ghostbur, he is the one making Sam recent hus lack of action when Tommy died so much that he became more brutal and willing to sacrifice nearly every, even those close to him, to keep him in prison.
I do get both sides of the argument on who is responsible for what happened and at first I was thinking that Tommy was responsible for the situation but Sam for Ghostburs death because he had many options to save him.
After realising and remembering that psychopath in the background I do think both created the situation but the only person at fault for the horrible things happening is Dream and that's what has to be focused on.
Neather Sam nor Tommy could let out their sadness and anger against Dream so they turned and attacked each other.

Sam's character is so complex and as much as people can dislike him (c!Sam) I still feel so terrible for everything and feel sorry. Like he has tried so hard to keep everything in place and not only has he had to accept the biggest responsibility as a prison warden but face the consequences of loosing his closest friends because of it
I really agree with Sam tho. Like what else should he have done? Tommy violated the rules that are in place for everyone's safety.
If he wanted Dream dead he should have gone through the proper channels. As much as I hate to say it, I think Tommy was in the wrong here and Sam's actions were entirely justified

He didn't want to kill him, most likely because he cares about him, so Sam had to get it through to Tommy how badly he messed up _somehow._ But whether he meant it or not, he shouldn't have blamed Tommy for everything bad happening at the prison when most of it was just Tommy being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he's gone through so much already, he didn't need all that weight on him. Doesn't mean Tommy's blameless though. I just feel bad for both of them because mistakes were made and they both definitely should have done things differently, but they just wanted what was best.
@@monniemai1592 the thing is, Sam kind of did have to go that hard. He's in charge of keeping a criminal in check, one of the most dangerous on the server at that. Sam's already had issues at the Prison and is definitely feeling the stress of his job. From his perspective, Tommy tried to break Dream out even if he has no idea why. He panicked and didn't want to fuck up again especially with Tommy. It probably wasn't a bluff, I bet Sam was fully prepared to kill the intruder but when he saw it was Tommy he couldn't do it. I've always found that Tommy's flaw is that he's very self centered, it's his perspective and only that which makes stuff like this really interesting.

Tbh I don't like how he takes risks with people's lives.
I don't know why he didn't tell BOTH Tommy and Ghostbur to walk over, since Ghostbur could have also been working with Tommy.
He could have put Tommy in a different cell.
He could have made his own oath instead of Dream's oath.
It's those little faults that overcome him, since he's in a poor mental state and is likely to make those mistakes, with each consequence making him more and more unstable.
Its frustrating to sit through and it can make people angry at Sam or make them pity him. Either way this is just, a sad mess.
plus i dont think Sam has any idea or a sense of empathy on what the revival book actually does so that also makes things frustrating/pitiful

I actually agree that Sam should have brought them both over, I suppose the argument could be made that he wanted to get the potential hostile away from Ghostbur since he wasn't sure that they knew about the intruder.
I do feel so sorry for Sam since his mental health is starting to crack under the pressure of being the warden. Unfortunately Sam's failing to properly separate Sam and The Warden like he wanted to and that's affecting his work. If he was being objective like he should be, Tommy would have been locked in a cell away from Dream but that would make him the bad guy and a villain. He doesn't seem to want to hurt Tommy since he's already feeling guilty about his death in the prison and as such just wants him out of the prison.
I understand his actions and find them very believable, great acting Sam. 10/10

That ending to me perfectly encapsulates how Sam must be feeling. Having his friends die by Dream, hurting his friends to make sure Dream doesn't escapes, and even having to possibly kill one of his friends to ensure Dream never escapes.
There really is so much anyone can take before they snap and I think Sam is at that breaking point soon. As for Wilburs revival, chaos is going to come to the SMP.

That means he can torture, manipulate, and control whoever he wants as soon as he gets out and gets armor and weapons. It’s pretty scary actually.

A little headcanon I have for Sam: (Warning, essay ahead)
So we know that despite Ranboo's appearance of duality, he has said specifically that he does not have bipolar disorder canonically, as he does not want to misrepresent the illness. However, based on Sam's recent behavior (particularly in this very scene), it occurred to me that maybe c!Sam does suffer from something like bipolar disorder. If you think a little too hard about it:
February 28th - He suffered a major trauma when Tommy died under his watch
Mid-March - Tortured Ponk to ensure the prison's security
Mid-April - Threatened to kill Tommy, while at the same time seeking to protect him from Dream
c!Sam has consistently behaved in a strange manner where he alternates between being empathetic and caring about the safety and feelings of others, and other times when he hurts the people he cares for most in a twisted desire to protect them. A lot of people have complained that this is simply poor character design or execution, but I think it would be interesting if it was due to Sam splitting in two because of his desperate need to protect everyone, especially those he loves, from Dream, yet incidentally hurting those same loved ones in the process.
Sorry if this is confusing or poorly written, I'm very tired and possibly braindead at the moment lol. Hope you enjoyed my off the cuff theorizing!

I think it's certainly an interesting theory.
My rambling thoughts:
What I think is happening is not necessarily bipolar, but Sam cracking under the pressure of his duty as Warden and Quackity's expectations of him.
He wants to protect and help the server, and keeping Dream in the prison is what he thinks is the best way, meanwhile caring for many people who keep getting in the way of his duties (Ponk, Tommy) while at the same time trying to keep a work partnership with Quackity who expects him to be an emotionless soldier-type that doesn't let his feelings get in the way.
I think Sam's character is an extreme example of somebody's personal and work life getting mixed up and not being able to deal with it. He doesn't have a comfort zone per say, nobody he thinks he can really turn to or depend on. I think he's really cracking under the pressure.

You know, it seems that Tommy's death has made Sam into something... different. Because, before Tommy died, if a breakout didn't happen, Sam was pretty chill. Now, he basically has anxiety. Now, all he cares about is the prison, because this isn't the Sam we knew, because the Sam we knew would NEVER have ripped off Ponk's arm just for the prison, who mind you, he had a relationship with. And the Sam that we knew, wouldn't threaten Tommy with literal DEATH just to keep the prison secure. He literally felt remorse when Tommy died, he felt like it was HIS fault that Tommy died, yet here he is now, threatening the same person who he felt was HIS fault for dying with death if he ever stepped near the grounds of the prison. In Sam's pursuit to stop people from getting hurt by Dream, in his pursuit to keep the prison secure at all times to keep Dream inside the prison, he has turned himself into a cold, uncaring, drone who cares about only ONE thing and nothing else, the prison.

In addition, Quackity has also been an influence on him, as he got to Sam in a very vulnerable moment

on one hand tommy believes for plenty of reasons that dream will escape and that once he does he will use everyone as puppets by either repeatedly killing them or by keeping them in line with threats of death
and on the other hand Sam is being manipulated by dream and he wants to keep tommy safe but doesn't understand why tommy is so afraid
Sam's single priority is to keep the prisoner contained and preferably alive. If you look at all the protocols, the safety and comfort of visitors is not prioritized. It is more important for the visitor to be easy to kill should they attempt to break the prisoner out than for them to be safe. They are completely unarmed and unarmored, set to 1/2 a heart. With the moving platform there is no way for Sam to intervene in time to save the visitor should the prisoner get violent.
They could let the visitor wear loaner armor (still inferior to Sam's netherite). They could let them heal to full hearts. They could keep the netherite barrier up. None of that is the case. The guards take no responsibility for the vistitors' safety.

This reopened a deep wound. Ghostbur, on that ledge, terrified, Tommy desperately trying to get Sam to let him over there, Sam simply shouting at Tommy, not even caring about what's happening to Ghostbur, it all just hurts. The way Sam just says "Everything is perfect when it's just me and him," the art style, _Ghostbur, terrified, on the ledge,_ it's beautiful, but it HURTS.

The creeper sound Sam made tho. The way Ghostbur was being choked by the chains, with Wilbur's amazing voice acting made me so sad.
The, "Tommy please!" Was so genuine. The way Ghostbur was crying, it's just to real man. I'm gonna cry.

it's sad because tommy just wanted to kill dream so badly that it's why he got caught. it's like an irresistible urge and how he tries to swing the axe at him early but is blocked by the netherite blocks is like a dog wanting to chase a squirrel but is unable to because of it being held back by the owner (of course no one being the owner though that'd be weirdchamp in this context) and that's why it's a small mistake but such a big consequence. i really sympathize with c!tommy..
