Well said. If he hasn’t been left to be the sole warden, maybe if Dream hadn’t intentionally made the prison a terrible place, then things may have been different.
This really does show how alike Tommy and Sam are in the eyes of everyone else on the server. Always having one person to blame, they're always the victims of Tommy or Sam.

Sam is Tommy when he's more older canonically on the smp? (seems kinda logical,considering what they've both been through: dream making tubbo exile Tommy,for sam it's essentially killing his social life with ponk) It all ends up where everything started,dream. And the fact that the prison was both of their purgatory aswell,I'm over thinking this a lil bit but it makes sense,hopefully.
Adding on to that, I think I thought of other people that relate to Tommy's situation for example:
Tommy and Sapnap:
Tommy losing his friends and family because of his selfish nature and short-sighted decision making, choosing stuff over people which causes the problems to become even worse, but sometimes he usually tries to correct those problems when push come to shove, even though he said he's fine with doing things solo and being alone, he still wants people to be around him and to hangout with because doesn't want them to leave him all alone because the affects of Exile and Limbo (either by dying, turning against or just hating in general), now it looks like his best friend and his best friends ghost are planning on having a divorce (hope that doesn't happened), his childhood friend is struggling to to see Dream is a bad person (hope he comes to his senses just like Wilbur did) and just trying to (FINALLY!) cope and heal after Wilbur freed him from Dream's control
Sapnap being a hotheaded troublemaker with a habit of killing peoples pets on multiple occasions causing the Pet Wars to happened, he has a strong sense of loyalty to both Dream and George and stuck by each other for all their lives on the DSMP, but then he started to question his friendship with Dream after over hearing about him saying he doesn't care about anything but the discs and ask Tommy about this hoping to believe that what Dream said was a joke, but Tommy not wanting to hurt his feeling said the blunt truth saying that "he was just one of his many bitches" Sapnap, shocked and heartbroken, he decided to push the truth away because one hand, what Tommy said really was the truth but on the other hand, he doesn't want to believe that his best friend was playing with his feelings, but he only realize that what Tommy said was true when Dream unexpectedly announced that George is getting dethroned he realizes in his head "Tommy was right... He really didn't care about anyone", a year later and Sapnap felt so lost now, his former friend has escaped prison and is becoming power hungry again, George is having sleeping problems and although this doesn't affect him that much, he's still kinda sad he can't always hangout as much like how they used too, but the most heartbreaking that happened when his two fiances are at each others throat over something that wasn't even true in the first place, and now Sapnap has to deal with Dream, George, Quackity and Karl's supposed breakup with one another
Tommy and George:
Tommy always followed his brother's lead in L'manburg, in Pogtopia, in Paradise and now the Wilburger and Ranvan business, no matter how questionable his action is and was even sometimes Tommy himself will hesitate on what Wilbur is planning (like blowing up Manberg and letting Wilbur visit Dream in prison) he will follow him matter the cost nor sacrifices because he wants to keep Wilbur out of trouble (just like how Wilbur keep Tommy out of trouble when he was still alive and sane) but also he knows that deep down he knows that somewhere is that kindhearted man he once was a d knew and wishing for the day he will be who he used to be (which worked out in the end), he has a strong loyalty to him even when he was losing his sanity in Pogtopia, Tommy never betrayed Wilbur and never gave up on him no matter what people told him
George has been with Dream since the servers beginning, they fight together, laugh together and just chill with each other too, they were so close that some members will call them a couple and even sometimes, him and Dream will just flirt with each other, in private and in public, they were completely inseparable, that is until Dream took his kingship away from George, he was devastated, upset but most of all... Betrayed, the person that promises him that he will be king one day and that said person made him king, but it is now the same one that stripped it away from him for his "Protection" and "Safety" after George got killed by Techno on the throne and Dream that was supposed to be his knight didn't do anything to help him, but despite all of what Dream and he's seeing his true colors now, he can't let go of all the memories he has with Dream and of course this resulting in "Dreaming" about him, wishing to go back to how things used to be before the server turned chaotic and for Dream to become good again, but it was all just fantasy and none of it is real and that he can never have what he wanted and Dream is just to far gone to be reason with
Tommy and Foolish
Tommy thought that he was doomed when he was accidentally imprisoned with his worst enemy after an unknown explosion happened on the prison roof and waiting for Sam to let him out but he bit off more than he can chew because not only was he killed by Dream but he realize that Sam left him to die in there which he said to Connor about, he felt betrayed by him and thought he was irresponsible to run the prison because of what happened, this distrust for Sam expanded when Dream escaped prison and Tommy accused him for not letting him kill Dream (Tommy being unaware about Micheal's kidnaping and Ranboo's death both cause by Sam)
When Eret was about to get sacrifice at the Rad banquet, Foolish not wanting his friend to die volunteer to take their place which causes Foolish to be executed instead by Ant, after the banquet happened, Quackity visits Foolish and reveals that he let the Eggpire kill him that get him back to how he used to be in the past, he was enraged feeling betrayed by truth, Foolish demands Quackity to leave him alone only for Big Q to give him a choice, he will leave Foolish be only if he decides to join Las Nevadas, he thinks over about Quackity's offer and after a long time he decided on his choice and join his nation

When Sam sees this, I’d bet money he’s gonna either A) cry or B) tell you you hit the nail right on the head like always for his character. I love his character so much. He deserves so, so much better.

That was beautifully done. Sam's entire story summed up so neatly with so much extra to answer what wasn't shown. What could only be assumed illustrated so vividly. Never fails to amaze me. Awesamdude should be proud.

This honestly felt like a trailer/short film for Sam's life. Like- the art, the use of darker colors and silhouettes, I've always loved you're art Grimmijagger, but something about this animatic hits different. Amazing and beautiful work as always! Can't see what's going to happen next

I feel like, Sam expresses himself and he only gets punished.
Trapped above the egg,
Trapped in over-load prison work (to make others happy)
Trapped in the prison himself.
He can barely tell the difference of right or wrong.
Not to mention, people don’t consider how he’s feeling about everything.
Unlike Dream, he isn’t laughing at Tommy, Ghostbur or Ranboo dying.
Sam wants to protect the kids, he feels like he can’t protect the ones turning into adults as their thinking for themselves and yes while he likes that. He hates it, he can’t be a father figure. Because he just turns those who once seen him as family away.
He wants to d!e, he’s begged Ponk to k!ll him, Sam’s fine with the fact Dream killed him.
And he’s having to listen to what Quackity wants. Or else he won’t be considered anyone’s family.
It’s like Las Nevada’s is his last choice.
He's a very complicated character and I absolutely love cc!Sam for it

Finally after all these years. A proper portrayal of all the shit sam has been through that led to his actions. Sam is absolutely my favorite dsmp character and your content has done nothing but increase that affection. I adore this, I cannot stop watching it. Sam is such a tragic character, someone who has given up so much of who he is for the sake of others only to become corrupted and outcast from the very people he tried his damn best to protect. I think what separates him from other characters is just how much his actions are a result of his duty, what he thought would result in the best outcome over his own humanity and morals. I could ramble on more but i just gotta say. thank you for making this, its amazing and i adore it. Poor little hiss hiss.

@@Grimmijaggers Spite is certainly a powerful motivator! I don’t mind people upset with his actions and viewing him negatively- it’s pretty damn justified- but i can’t stand when they think his motives are selfish or of malice or sadism or whatever- the depth of his character really comes from how much he cares about others- that he has a good heart, and even though he tries so hard-maybe because he tries so hard- his actions end up hurting people.
One of the most telling things about his character imo is when he blamed Eret and Technoblade for his imprisonment, but not Tubbo- the person who came up with his punishment- man he’s so interesting and despite everything he still wants to protect people.
I’m so glad to see someone who doesn’t depict c!sam as evil, I always dislike how people try to make him seem worse then dream on the principle that “at least dream admits he’s evil” which doesn’t really make sense to me

The part with Foolish telling Sam that he's loved and he has friends and he doesn't have to carry his burdens alone only for him to respond that he didn't want his burdens to be a burden to anyone else was so sad. And it hit close to home personally. This was such a well made animatic

I love the way sam's character evolves during the smp. It's like instead of getting better, the guilt is eating him up from the inside, making him portray himself as a bad person.

honestly my oppinion sams the most tragic character of dream smp aside from ranboo,and tubbo,sam started out trying to help others and keep everyone happy,he then became slowly corrupted as he would stay in the prison most times,ruined his relationship with ponk the second he cut off ponks hand even tho he tried to help he still became what he swore to destroy,and when things got to bad he ended up killing ranboo which caused his demise and emprisonment and thus he was more suseptible to dreams control i hope tommy can reunite with sam

This story is cruel. The good either perish or turn evil, or suffer more. Those who are willing to take from others for their own selfish needs are the ones who will get to be happy. But soon a war will begin. Would he live or would he be killed by *him*? We *they* return? These are the questions that will be answer in the future.

Also the idea of what it must’ve been like for Sam respawning after Dream killed him. To be let out of jail by him after what he did to him, and Sam not being able to fight back or challenge him, that could’ve been worse and more humiliating than the actual death itself.

Sam is literally the whole “you die a hero or live log enough to see yourself become the villain”

Aaaand this is why I love Sam as a character so much. And I ended up having a lot to say, so buckle up if you want to read this full thing. Also, while I have added c! where it caught it, I am primarily talking about the characters rather than the content creators, so if you don't see one just assume I meant the character not the creator behind them.
While being a villian to several others (such as Tubbo), his descent is a lot more complex and thus I would actually use the word antagonist. He isn't directly evil, just is an opposing force to the perceived protagonist/hero. He tries to do what he believes is right, even if he knows it will put him as the 'bad guy.' Yes, his goodness has been covered up over time, but that doesn't mean it still isn't there. One can take the moment with c!Ranboo, highlighted 2:03, as an example. He knows what he did hurt people deeply, and he knows he could have avoided what happened by stepping in. But one thing c!Sam will not tolerate is others having the same shame, the same weight of guilt that he does. This is even directly backed up by the moment highlighted at 4:47 with his response to c!Foolish. It's not simply that it's hard for him to accept help, it simply is because he doesn't want anyone else to be in the same position as him because he has dealt with this enough times that he believes he can take it.
One of the other commenters, Rebekah Tink, pointed out that Sam "became the thing he swore to destroy." It may be a bit more complex than that, more of "Sam became the bad guy so that no one else had to." He became so fixated on his job that he fell from a position of honor but after so many other people calling him the villain, he probably believes it. (Note, talking about the character being called that by other characters.)
Transitioning to the animatic itself now that I've done my character analysis, I loved the moments you chose and the structure of the video. The pacing made it easy to understand what was going on and the dialogue choices were picked well. The song teared me up at the beginning when I recognized it and I did shed some tears. The expressions were wonderful and the poses backed them up well. Obviously, my two moments are at 2:03 and 4:47 as I mentioned them in my analysis above, but I also liked 2:30 with the cuts back to Sam's ties to others and later with Dream post 5:04. Not sure why I like that second bit so much, but it really drives home what Sam felt. Also, sad puppy at the end and I want to hug c!Sam.

Wow, this is amazing!! To see Sam´s story summond up makes it impossible to see him just as "the bad guy" or "a super villain". His story is so complex like most of the background of the other characters. But especially Sam has a huge package to carry. 😢

C!Sam was always my least favorite, he always made me so mad and he was so evil. Like- all of the things he’s done, killing Ranboo, being a reason for Tommy’s death, kidnapping Michael, etc.
… after watching this… lets just say I cried and my feelings of c!Sam has changed a LOT

Oh my god, this makes me feel so bad for Sam, he went through a lot and all he did was try to do the right thing, or what he thought was the right thing, and the mistakes that he made led to the events that occurred, and the prison sorta corrupted him because all he cared about was Dream not escaping, he became a hard shell of his former self. Also I love and hate the part where Dream gave killed Sam, the scar that you gave him is really cool, and I love how when Dream checks Sam's eyes you can only see the vision from his right eye. Ahhh such a great detail. Also, I love how Dream's face is classified as a trigger warning.🤣

'releases air' that hit hard. It shows how much you understand this character specifically. In the one hand I got cills and my heart got rent but on the other hand I loved this to death. This is your best work yet. I love having seen your animator journey up to this point and so many of your high quality animations. The feels have always been so invoked by your works of art. This one defiantly hit the hardest though and fit the character the best. I'm saving this and I wish I could like this at minimum 50 times over. I'm saving and rewatching at least one other time. This was great. I'm not sure if you will ever be able to top this but if you do I'm here for it. This was amazing.

This is *true artistry at its finest* In smallest terms. But this.. THIS WAS AMAZING! Before the premier, the chat was just preparing food and tissues and blankets, it was adorable! I mean, now, seeing this, how can people see poor ol’ Sam and still be so mean about him. The guy has been through so much and just wanted to do the right thing which in the end turned against him. And all the detail in this! Like Sam’s slightly-grayish blood, Dreams shorter hair, and the chains on Sam instead, I also love The Egg references! In my opinion, Sam is still a great person. He just needs a hug and a redemption arc. I also love the song used- Heard it before in another animatic and loved it. How can you do this Grimm THIS IS A CRIME IT IS A CRIME TO MAKE AN ANIMATIC THIS GOOD. HOW CAN YOU MAKE US CRY OVER DIS CREEPER MAN? AHHHHHH PURE AWESOMENESS! A that was… just amazing. Wow, that was... wow. Honestly I didn't think that just 1 animatic can explain a character so well. I thought it would at least require a 30 min video analysis, but you did it in 1 animatic by simply showing, not telling. Further more I found myself finding more of his character through your interpretation. I think it's easy to lose Sam’s "core" through different points of view, sometimes he's all for tommy the next time he opposes him, one time hi's for unified server the next he's chopping Ponk's arm off. What Sam really is is a confused person wanting to do good, but unable to, he tried to carry his burden alone and was left with nothing. He has surprisingly a lot in common with Tommy AND Dream at the same time. God do I love this complicated mess of a character!
Sorry, I went for a rant about Sam’s character, but your animations just wake that part of me. Further more this animatic was spectacular, not only pleasant to the eye, but also squishing so much lore into reasonable pasing. Good job Grimm!

I do think it’s interesting how good of a person Sam was before the prison totally corrupted him. It’s unbelievable that he would go as far as killing Ranboo, after the lengths he went to try and be a good person, and help people.
It’s hard to tell because Sam wasn’t always a part of the main lore, but if this were a real animated show, this might be the saddest story on the server.
Because his story is so spread out throughout various POVs and rare sam lore streams, it's easy to miss how intense and tragic his story is, for sure.
Hence why I draw him so much, haha

Sam plays such a huge role in the server but everyone disregards Sam himself. It's always "what can
Sam do for me" " how can Sam benefit me" It's a terrible mindset. And then there's a clip. And I know it exist but I can't find the vid clip. Tommy and tubbo where talking as normal then tubbo asks "Tommy? How do you think sam is?" Tommy.y then responded with "WHY should I care tubbo?" And I mean CMON WHY?

Grimm, I just- AAAAAAAA- poor Sammy- best boi- this whole thing LITERALLY gave me a new perspective of his character. I was never mad at him or thought he was in the wrong, (unlike some people that can't understand what fiction is,) but I never looked into him enough to have acfua,ly been able to see all of this everything that's been pushing him down.
