You were correct about Cryptic from the ruling: Look at both chosen modes to determine how many targets Cryptic Command has, if any. If it has at least one target, and all its targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, then it won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. For example, if you choose the second and fourth modes, and the permanent is an illegal target when Cryptic Command tries to resolve, you won’t draw a card.
I absolutely adore the idea of Umbris Horror Tribal, but I'm afraid of it getting TOO big without me asking it to, and becoming a removal magnet. Since it never gets smaller until somebody dies, getting to 21 power would make it a remove on sight for being instantly lethal on hit.
No, even though it lost its target it has multiple modes that don't require targets meaning those effects resolves as normal. The target mode doesn't resolve but the remaining modes should, since they don't require targets.
@@FPSveteran no, even if it has multiple modes, if all declared targets have become illegal it fizzles. This is why some newer commands requires you to target a player with almost purely beneficial effects, just so it doesn’t fizzle.
@@FPSveteran 608.2b If the spell or ability specifies targets, it checks whether the targets are still legal. A target that’s no longer in the zone it was in when it was targeted is illegal. @@FPSveteran Actually, Mystic Confluence is on the same boat as Cryptic Command: as long as you only pick modes without targets, you don't have to worry about it fizzling, but it even one mode with a target is chosen, it must have at least one legal target as it tries to resolve.
Interesting to see Jetmir being played, as he's my second most anticipated commander from the set. I'd love to see Evelyn be played, since she's the commander I'm most interested in from this set. I've always liked the "steal your opponents' decks" cards, so finally having a proper fully Grixis commander for that play style is great.
I love it that you intend to post the stream games in the shorter edited version. Whenever I see them I get super interested in seeing the commanders in action, but sadly I don't have the time to dedicate to the longer, unedited videos. So thank you very much for going through the editing process with them!
I changed my dimir mill deck into an umbris deck. Milling is still there, but I added a lot of exile cards for it. So the strategy is kind of the same as it was, but with commander damage being a threat this time. It rocks, but it's slow.
Hey! I have my own Umbris deck, I’m unsure if you have this in there, but Rite of Consumption performs wonderfully with Umbris. It’s essentially a big Fling in black that gains you life.
best way to play the cool cat is build up a bunch of cheap 1/1s then cast your commander to finish off someone it better to play him as a finisher than to run him out early just to die
fr tho, I turn up for edh and end up watching archenemy. The player that got badlands, mana crypt, black market and meren on their board by turn 3 get removed first, no matter what.
All decks were fun to watch. They felt fresh for some reason. I got the Peer Trough Time deck (still fully precon) and i was thinking of upgrading it. Maybe put Alrund in it since it works so well with Teferi (or Amanatou for my Esper deck).
I'm a bit confused on the Cryptic Command not have any targets after heroic intervention was on the stack. Max still has creatures that aren't hexproof so the 4th mode of CC still has targets and would that not allow him to draw the card?
Great content as always. 👍 Do you ever host Spelltable games with fans or patrons to play? I’ve been getting into Spelltable since I haven’t been able to play IRL lately.
For the crpytic command, it goes by the spell in the order its chosen For future Reference: Lets say you chose modes 1 & 2, and they hexproof their creature again, you still get to counter the spell on the stack, but the rest of it fizzles out But what if you chose 2 & 3/4, and they hexproof their creature, then the spell fizzles upon its cast and you don't do the other effects, as the spell resolves from top to bottom If I'm understanding the rulings correctly.
I think im going insane. I swear on my life ive seen this game before, but seeing as how it got uploaded today, and nobody else is pointing it out, i think I'm just being delusional.
That "mismatched island"-comment had me chuckling
Of course! I have my standards.

@@darksteelmenace595 I do it all time. sets a buddy of mine off every time haha

Came to say the same thing because I was interested too
Small suggestion, even if you don't have the opening hands, please show us the cards for the commanders. Thanks.
That's an easy enough fix! I'll definitely do that moving forward. Thanks for the suggestion.

So cool to see Ziatora and Jetmir play! Excited to hopefully play with them soon
Yes, Cryptic Command should've fizzled because it lost its only target.

@@DarkEinherjar gotcha. I was thinking it like mystic confluence. You gotta have at least one target for it to resolve, unlike this instance.

15:31. Missed champion trigger. Didn’t end up mattering but would have if they lost the mana crypt flip.
Good catch! I guess if I'd hit Em Jae, they'd still have survived.
Finally an Umbris deck being played!! I recently built and Umbris deck and it is so crazy
I really like Umbris theme, I would always feel scared to play against it 😂

Essence Harvest too, with the added bonus of not losing your big creature.
I play it too, can save your ass since Umbris isn't a good deck for blocking creatures
I prefer essence harvest. Just one more mana and you don’t have to recast Umbris for 7 freaking mana.

Would love to see the Ziatora decklist!
That's the longest I've seen a black market sitting on the board. Whenever I cast it, it usually lasts 2-3 turns and nets me 5 mana
fr tho, I turn up for edh and end up watching archenemy. The player that got badlands, mana crypt, black market and meren on their board by turn 3 get removed first, no matter what.
I love Umbris. I put some low cost ingest creatures in mine to pump him up. Also Bane of Bala Ged is fun.
is there a possibility of getting the ziatora deck list?
Such relaxing music... 😌
I just finished my umbris deck and I love it. Nice to see another one being played :)

will there be a decklist for umbris?
why not attack Em Jae at 9:35 to force him to block with Ziatora or die? Instead hitting the the token from Max
Nice choice of Dark Ritual art! It's so Lovecraftian!
Any chance we will get to see an Umbris deck list?
Oh nice! I built a umbris deck awhile ago also on MOX field haha
I would love to see the Umbris list
will you ever upload your deck list of umbris?

I built umbris nightmare horror clones and surprisingly nightmare shepherd is a good way to reuse umbris without casting a ton of times
I don't have time for 1h stream but i like that i can now attribute a face to the players :)

The deck is borrowed. It's not his.
Alrund a good game! And first with a pun!

the ziatora deck was targeted the most and still won. don't know if i would call that balanced.
I'm excited for Jetmir. That's the deck I'm building and hooo boy is he scary

Em Jan with the crazy cool win. loved watching that game

Umbris is scary. One shot machine with blue protection and black removal? Yikes..... I'm off to build it so I can introduce it to my friends XD
