At gp Vegas in 2019, I sat down for a pod of commander & 2 players were playing Lord Windgrace. I busted out my Lord Windgrace, and the other guy didn't want be left out so he pulled out his Lord Windgrace.
About what you were musing with Ghired, he is definitely worth a try to build. He's very fun and I find that I am populating more often and more interesting creatures than in Trostani.
Ouff Ghired being in red has so many ways to create tokens out of random creatures, e.g. Feldon, Flameshadow, Felhide and Rionya, as well as the red instants: Heat shimmer and Twinflame. Mimic Vat is still one of my favourites though. You also get access to Harmonic Prodigy and Wulfgar that double the population. If you're into populating the board, you should have a go at Ghired. However, if lifegain is your thing, Trostani is probably more suitable.
Harmonic Prodigy doesn't work with Hofri actually, because the token is only created if the card is really exiled - also because hofri is neither Shaman nor Wizard.
15:45 thats not a deep sea kraken, silly. It's a Fleet Swallower. edit: 16:04 "he had a budget friendly deck" Wut? he had a turn 2 mana crypt lmao. He could easily trade that alone for all the junk he had in there xd.
@@MTGMuddstah The Crypt doesn't look that expensive, much like some of the other cards. I get a distinct "not real card" vibe off those. So technically, the crypt was actually super cheap? ;-)
A little bit mean, but because "Partner With" says target player searches and shuffles, Dom could have used Pir's enter the battlefield trigger to shuffle away the Dreadhound on top of Miguel's library which would have kept Runo from transforming (had Mathieu not killed it soon after, but Dom likely didn't know that would happen)
@@gethan3189 I was wrong I guess, I assumed that "When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put [name] into their hand from their library, then shuffle" meant they can choose to fail to find but must shuffle; after reading the full mechanics in 702.124f I have realized you are right, the shuffle seems to also be voluntary contingent on the search
7:05 - Dom missed two Kaya ghostform triggers - he didn't make the two 1/1 spirits that should've been created after his Kethis and EWit were exiled (and hopefully returned to his hand, cuz if he didn't do that, that's yet another missed trigger)
I have a Ghired deck that was heavily inspired by your Trostani deck! One of my favorites to play and I've won several games with a similar play pattern as played out in this video.
Oddly enough everytime I play against the two new boros artifact commanders they usually have all the lands out of their deck by turn 6 due to solemn copies or similar shenanigans.
The lack of top deck filtering on both runo decks is kinda sad to see, it's there for a reason invest in a Top/Scroll Rack for the love of all things please people.
Why didn't Dom get his spirit tokens from the Kaya counters? It works when creatures are exiled too, he would have had chump blockers to protect Ugin, so sad.
Why does the Kethis Deck have a Boros Fetch land? I‘ve seen that multiple times in other cases and could never get behind it. It is not a landfall deck. It can only fetch a plains. It costs you 1 life. Why not put a plains in it instead? Would greatly appreciate an explanation
The lifegain from Trostani is a very strong focus of your deck from what I remember of previous games. Switching to Boros or Naya would have you give up on that.
@@zackkelley2940 It's harder to have consistent lifegain when your commander lacks it. Without Trostani, he'd have to dedicate more slots in the deck to life-gaining cards (or tutoring for said cards).
@@DarkEinherjar Very True, I never said it'd be easy. Best bet for Boros would probably be Firesong and Sunspeeker. Not sure about Naya. Tamanoa would be awesome for it, but sadly isn't legendary.
Cool game. You should give ghired a go. Just buy the precon and try it for a bit (in Europe it's a very cheap precon). I switched out maybe 13 to 15 cards and it really is cool commander.
Been saying it...Runo is just a slower, weaker Gyruda deck, haha. Gyruda was the only thing that really "worked" in either of those Runo decks. Just put Gyruda in the CZ and go to town
Rules-wise, it's fine because fetchlands do not have any colours in their colour identity (as there are no mana symbols in the mana cost or rules text of the card), meaning it's technically allowed to run any of the fetchlands in any deck, regardless of who the commander is. Gameplay-wise, with enough fetchable dual lands, even being able to only find one of the two land types that the fetchland hits is enough to get any colour out of them, making an off-colour fetchland still be pretty darn powerful.
Put a ghostform counter on up to one target nontoken creature. It gains "When this creature dies or is put into exile, return it to its owner's hand and create a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying."
If mathieu had sacrificed the other commanders with hofir in play, wouldnt he have gotten copies of them and his oponents would have gotten their commanders back?
Every runo deck I’ve seen runs into the same problem, not enough top deck manipulation. If you want to win with runo you need to apply constant pressure with copy tokens. Run plenty of cantrip scrying and surveiling
I think that last creature Miguel played was a Fleet Swallower.

"who's playing lord windgrace at this table guys?"

Unsuspecting and underrated commander. Takes some time to build the board around him but if unanswered, can quickly take over a game.
Why build the board just throw in a mob rule and watch the chaos reins :)
