  • Every time I fly my airplane the Intense irrational reality of this dream still feels surreal to me. No matter how many times I have flown it feels like a dream more than a reality. It still amazes me that I can plan a flight and fly myself to a destination.

    I know exactly how you feel. I bought a small plane last year and it’s still hard to believe that I own my plane and hangar. I was washing it the other day and it hit me how crazy it was. I used to dream about this as a little boy and now it’s real. I wish I could get my now grown children to learn to fly. You’re lucky.

      Hi Mark, it’s so amazing what we can do when we put our minds and efforts to work. I get that feeling of amazement before every flight. My son flies very well and I’m hoping he pursues with his pilot’s certificate. 😀

    I just started flying in March of this year. I’m just constantly watching your videos, as well as many others. Your videos have made me so excited to get to fly with my wife and two girls! You have inspired me to take extra time studying and practicing as much as I can, so that we can have the same fun and safe experiences the you and your family do! Thank you for what you and your family do!

    I grew up at the airport. There are pictures of me as a toddler in a Seneca holding on to the yoke on trips with my dad. I knew not take it for granted - and I still took it for granted. Now I'm trying to claw my way back in. He has no idea growing up with it... how cool it is. When all the other kids were playing football in high school and going on dates - I was flying, or hanging out at the airport. And I thought it was normal. None of the other kids even had any idea for the most part. It's an unusual way to grow up but VERY cool.

      Aviation can be addicting and contagious. I loved airplanes since I was a child. That is pretty much what I am trying to share with my son. Since it's such a routine for us he probably also assumes it is normal but I'd like for him to realize that he is in a very tight niche community filed with incredible individuals. Thanks for sharing such a great memory!

    Just discovered your channel...and love it. My son is a pilot in the Air Force; he is my MAIN inspiration creating love for aviation. Appreciate your authenticity and honesty at all times, so transparent and real. It's my observation that you've been blessed beyond measure, not only with your Cherokee 6, but also (and more importantly) with a beautiful family. I'd love to see you engage your family members a bit more during videos, asking them "open ended" questions to draw out their hearts, their passions, their gifts, their thoughts/feelings about life, about family, about faith, about anything that's important to them. In other words, in making these videos, you're courageously welcoming us (total strangers) into your family, which is our honor/privilege; so, we'd LOVE TO HEAR MORE from your family members too! Much love!

      Hi Jim and welcome to the channel 😀. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and kindness. When I first decided to purchase the Cherokee Six back around 2012 I was thinking “family”. My main focus was on getting an airplane that the family would enjoy. Thankfully, my family is built with a strong family bonding. I also strongly believe that the foundation of a strong nation starts with family principles. You also make a valid point about courageously welcoming strangers and the reason for that is that I love being social, making connections, and learning about others uniqueness. I realize that the more I learn and connect with others the more meaningful life can be. Thanks again Jim and I appreciate you 😀

    Took my first “real” cross country trip from Central Indiana to eastern Tennessee to visit my parents at their lake house. Although I used a club airplane, It took several days to wrap my mind around the fact that I flew an airplane to states away to visit family.. SURREAL!! Cut a 7 hr drive to just over 2 hrs. Definitely will be buying my own plane one day, probably after I get instrument rated.

And I know what you mean! I dread driving 20 hours from Denver to Kentucky when I can fly it in around 7 hours. I’d say, if you could, get one now and get your instrument in it. Thanks Zach 😀

    I think every pilot must feel that joy of flying. It is an amazing privilege and blessing. Are you trying to hit 1500 hrs to go to airlines or something along those lines? New watcher here. I am a student pilot with 40 hours. I love flying but dread the studying and tests.i need to get on it so I can finish my PPL. Hello from Cali 👋

      Hello and welcome to the channel 😀. It is definitely an incredible privilege. My dream was to do exactly what I am doing now. Fly around enjoying the wonderful experiences with my family. I never took an interest in taking a job as a pilot only because my focus early on was about building entrepreneurships. But, if I had to get a job, I most certainly would consider a pilot career. You know, my son is very much similar to you. He loves flying the airplanes but he seems to also dread the studying. In order to perform in the safest way possible, much studying is needed. Hang in there, with 40 hours, you are almost done 😀

    Raul , I love watching your videos you keep inspiring me . I’m gonna finish my training and get my PPL before the years end !
    One question I have is , why do you keep both planes ? I figured with the newer turbo Cherokee you would always want to use it instead of the six.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      Hello there my friend and thanks for sharing your thoughts with me 😀. Great to hear that you will accomplish your PPL soon! Great question! I’ve answered your question on past videos but it’s totally unreasonable to expect my followers to listen to every word and/or every video. So I’d be glad to answer it to the best of my ability. So there are several reasons. I learned many years ago how to be financially independent and debt free. It allowed me the opportunity to also learn the importance of a well balanced portfolio, such as, owning appreciating assets of different types (including appreciating airplanes). I was also looking for a faster airplane and to also overcome Denver’s density altitude. After looking at several options, I locked in at a Turbo Saratoga. It actually is in a separate class and has a different mission than the Cherokee Six. Next, I still need the Cherokee Six for the heavier useful load mission capabilities and for family trips. The Turbo Saratoga can do what the Cherokee Six can’t do and vice versa. 😀 Having said that, the Cherokee Six is a keeper for me. But in a few years I will probably end up trading the Turbo Saratoga for another type of asset. It’s sad, however, that most people have no idea that cash is just like having debt! So learning about how to invest and to keep a well balance financial portfolio is essential to financial stability and independence. I love numbers and not too many people are fond of this stuff 😀 There are many more reasons but I’d end up writing a novel 😆😆😆

    Raul, would there be any possibility you might be able to answer a few specific questions I have about the Saratoga sometime? Specifically, your experience going from the Cherokee 6 to the Saratoga and what (if any) hurdles you had with insurance? I am looking to move into a Saratoga from an SR22, and the not having any retractable gear time thing is proving to be a bit of a problem

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому +1

      Hi Zachary, I'd be glad to help you out. Other than insurance being a little higher for the gear and higher value it was not a challenge at all for me. But I could see where they might fuzz about going to a retractable from fixed. I had previous retractable time so that helped me out. I'd try to get about 10 hours logged on a retractable with an instructor and have him sign you off on the retractable. That should make it easier for you. 😀

    Did you notice that there is a Speed mod for your Tubro Saratoga! LoPresti Speed Mods. The plane climbs faster, engine runs cooler, cruises faster. So with your long trips it might benefit you wallet. Cruising faster or cruising at the old cruise speed burning less fuel. What do you think

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      Hi Robert, Yes, I looked into them several years ago for my Cherokee Six when I was doing the renovations. But after comparing several mods installed on a couple of Sixes and, later on a Saratoga I can tell you that I am not convinced that the mods are worth the money. I did not see any differences using similar power settings on cruise speeds, or temps. For the climb I scratched my head because it was difficult to determine if it helped at all because of so many variables. So I decided not to get them. Thanks and I highly appreciate the suggestion! 😀

    What is that on Javier's upper lip? (-: The "kid" is turning into a man! Seriously, I feel the same way when I fly... I look out the window and think, am I really doing this? We pilots are very lucky, to be sure. One day the powers that be will take that freedom away.... We're almost there already with the high price of flying. Take care, and thanks for letting us fly along!
