7Artisans are calling them "Pro" lenses, and it certainly feels like that is the target with the image quality. I'm sure you would have no issue getting some sent out, let me know if you need a contact.
Question: If the 25mm and to a lesser extent 85mm lens remain so far off in color correction upon release can they offer specialized lens filters that 1) pull them back to being aligned, one to another, and perhaps 2) correct, at least to some extent, for wide open light falloff both at the expense of light gathering ability? Although adding complexity and cost one could choose, depending on the nature of shoot to use the filters or not. Does this make sense?
Hey Mark, For a stills focused user who wants a 75-85MM fast lens for cheap on Canon RF... what would you go with? The nightwalker, the hope, the Canon RF 85 F2, something else? I prefer manual honestly just because I don't like fighting autofocus but the IS on the Canon is a nice point... But not for over double the cost of the other options. My priority is sharpness at a fast aperture.
Sorry by advance for my poor English. I am confused by the mounting options of all these brands : Sirui, 7artisans, SLR Magic and others. Because they claim to be full frame, but the only full frame camera you can put it on is a Sony or a RF RED/Canon camera. If you choose the E-mount version, and you want to swap to a RED Komodo now … you can't. And if you are shooting an EF, L, PL (…) mount camera, you can pass your way. I mean … Meike or DZO for exemple, has sets of full frame lenses, with swappable EF/PL mount, that can be adapted to pretty any camera, thanks to their flange distance. OK it is not the same price point. I get it. But buying a lens set is a long term investment. Something you are gonna have to make profitable. But also something that will last long. A 10 years old camera is good for retirement. A 10 years old lens set should last for many other decades. No ? Am I missing something ? Sorry I realise that I polute the thread. I just want to open the debate here. Beside, thank you for all your videos. Very interesting and documented. Please keep on. Cheers from France.
At under 500 dollars each lens, I don't think these are intended to be that heavy of an investment. Honestly, this appearance of so many different brands of low-budget, relatively high-quality lenses seems surprising to me. Who are these for? How is there such a huge market for them? Will we still be making movies the same way in 10 years? It all seems rather strange to me.
A set of 10-16-25mm is what is available of these for 1330€ where I'm at, which to me is not really interesting, I don't shoot with the camera shoved into the subject. I have a 35mm Sirui nightwalker which is plenty wide, on FS700 S35 4K you're about a foot and a half away from the subject when shooting an 'extreme' face closeup. What I'm doing a bad job at explaining is that on s35 a 35mm is as wide as makes sense, but for 10-16-25mm you've got to be running a pretty small sensor to get something useful out that isn't just "drug fueled hallucination" type footage IMO. Just thought I'd point that out.
Dude are you based in Melbourne? Noticed some uniquely Australian footage there of the SBS logo and the Woolworths delivery truck. And that bridge that everyone drives into.
Honestly, I wouldnt mind using these on the Z9 as a crop, since Im just starting out with cinema lenses and I dont want to invest in 2000-3000$ a piece glass. Though there is a Spectrum series, I wonder how these compare with spectrum?
That was the most abrupt ending of any UA-cam video I’ve ever watched. I was listening on headphones and said out loud to myself “wait it’s over that was it?” Good info though and a cool lens set
Just because others don't worry about is the exact reason why these lenses take the upper hand... because they worried about it. Like Viltrox, they said f it lets just make some awesome aftermarket lenses that actually works out of the phase area and make sure we upgrade to better quality glass and keep the costs low. Kit lens feel... Sigma Art image quality
@@markwiemels I'm talking about front. It says so on their website. If that's wrong I'd consider the set. If not I don't see the point. Maybe your review sample was different? I thought it was weird that you wouldn't mention it since you're usually very thorough.
Great to see your color matching tests are consistent with my copies. They're way better than the Sirui nightwalkers but the colour shifts on the 25 and 85 are the biggest downfalls.
When I’m talking about how they compare to “other budget cine lenses”, those are the primarily the lenses I’m talking about. I plan to do an additional video with some side by side examples, as a true comparison video.
@@markwiemels awesome! I think you’re the most thorough lens reviewer on UA-cam so I was expecting to see or hear your thoughts on the other two lenses! Great to know that you’re going to have a follow up review!
For the test, you need to find the character of the lenses, for this you need to understand at what distance and on what backgrounds it appears. You have done so much work but have not shown the main thing! We need live shots, not studio tests!
I love that they have a solid wide angle set in this, a range that is often ignored on budget sets, but problems with the 25mm is a real problem. I’m not really interested in a lens set that doesn’t have a matching roughly 35mm FF equivalent.
My 16 year old daughter, fasting growing demographic for F1 followers is teenage girls. They even know race strategies, tire choices, everything, brought about buy the Netflix series.

This is a great review video. I really like seeing the test charts and the deeper technical dive into the performance of the lens.
Thanks.
I’m curious how these would compare to the nisi athena’s. Since u also tested those. Do u feel a lot of differences? And which would u prefer?
Me too
Athena series are full frame, this series is S35 so not really a direct comparison
Very interesting take on the hope series of lenses! I'm a little curious now
7Artisans are calling them "Pro" lenses, and it certainly feels like that is the target with the image quality. I'm sure you would have no issue getting some sent out, let me know if you need a contact.
Definitely interested in seeing what you’d do with these, along with your thoughts!
Very good review of these lenses. to the point, but also very well put together. cheers
will this work on full frame cameras?
Great presentation! The 7artisans spectrum series for full frame have the same issues with the 35mm. Sadly i had to return them.
Me to. The green tint on the 35mm was definitely a dealbreaker.

I have not seen that done before, but I can be corrected in camera with white balance settings.
Sir for cannon r50 which 7 artisans cine lens is suitable please suggest
How you compare this vs night Walker?
Mark, did you notice any 3D pop on these like you did with the Arles?

Why dont you look into some vintage lenses?
Dang, this was perfect till the 25. Any word if they got it figured out? I'd like to order the set but that's way off.
No, I don't have any update. You could try and email/message them.
Sorry by advance for my poor English.

Hey Mark, great video! Could u make a comparison between the vision and hope primes? Would be very interested in that!!!
I have the Vision series: ua-cam.com/video/3gCV8bLb4tA/v-deo.html
Now I just need the same performance in FF with RF mount and I'll be good to go! Probably won't happen though :(

No L, EF or PL mount?
Wow! These are solid! Between distortion control and focus breathing being essentially non existent… I might get a couple for my FX30!
Yeah, it's pretty impressive.
Honestly, I wouldnt mind using these on the Z9 as a crop, since Im just starting out with cinema lenses and I dont want to invest in 2000-3000$ a piece glass. Though there is a Spectrum series, I wonder how these compare with spectrum?
Are these lenses made for Sony full frame cameras or just APS-C?
I think u can use both of them. It is super35 lens film lenses bro
That was the most abrupt ending of any UA-cam video I’ve ever watched. I was listening on headphones and said out loud to myself “wait it’s over that was it?”

These need to come out for the L-mount
It’s an APS-C lens right?
Yes.

Is it me or 7artesans have a unique color?
Is there any equivalent for Canon Ef mount😂
I see all these awesome ,well price and beautiful lenses and see Sony-E mount or Canon Ef-M mount🫠
Dude this set is actually REALLY good! I think performance wise they kick the ass of other cinema lenses at the same price point
Honestly the fact that the 16mm doesn't have a filter mount is a huge dealbreaker that isn't mentioned enough
The 16mm does have filter threads, like the rest of them. Are you talking about a rear filter mount option?
@@markwiemels I'm talking about front. It says so on their website. If that's wrong I'd consider the set. If not I don't see the point. Maybe your review sample was different? I thought it was weird that you wouldn't mention it since you're usually very thorough.
@@ChrisThe1 yes, it must be mistake. It’s the same as the others, even the 10mm has filter threads.
@@markwiemels then why would they specifically state that the 16 doesn't have them? It's stated clearly on their "product parameters" spec sheet
@@markwiemels Just talked to a 7artisans rep. Apparently the RF-mount 16mm is missing the filter thread. The others have it. Super weird.
Cinema without being PL?
Go for samyang VAF cinelens

Great review but where was the comparison between the other two lenses that you mentioned??

No L mount seriously? They usually do have L with 7artisans
you know what could be a gas? A budget cine lens ultra wide angle 0 distortion with m42 mount. why nobody makes it? i think it's profitable too.
Can’t wait to try the 16mm on my Fuji X-H2s
For the test, you need to find the character of the lenses, for this you need to understand at what distance and on what backgrounds it appears. You have done so much work but have not shown the main thing! We need live shots, not studio tests!
There have been quite a few real life examples
Good pickup on the colour temperature shifts. I’m most interested in 16/25/35/50 so the 25 outlier would be a problem.
...why there is no Nikon Z mount??
I know! I was surprised by that as well. Maybe they will release one.
Or L mount with its growing popularity and black magic integration 😢
That is really weird. They've done a wonderful job supporting the Z Mount over the years. Maybe they're just gauging demand on this one?
This is only for serious shooters, sorry.
Nikon ZZzzzzzz mount

The sirui lenses are pronounced Siri I’ve heard great video
Grab a set of those and a Blackmagic 4k. Wow.
For sure!
Who got the whole F1 Cake 😂
My 16 year old daughter, fasting growing demographic for F1 followers is teenage girls. They even know race strategies, tire choices, everything, brought about buy the Netflix series.
Heard that the 35/50/85 have some utility for FF with minor to no vignetting. Would definitely pickup that bundle if that is the case.
Toneh
Mmmmmmmm, very tasty.
