I also just got my R8 about a month ago and while it is a big learning curve for me since i have never owned a camera other than my phone camera, i know it will be worthwhile and fun to learn. I used to think my phone was enough for my needs but than thought i was ready for something more professional
Hello, I have the Eos R8 and when I put it in HDR PQ, the PP profiles only let me use Normal, Landscape, Portrait, Neutral. Why won't it let me use a custom one of the 3 user memories it has? This isn't right. I want to record at 10 bits with my own profile on my camera, to give a more film-like profile as desired, and the camera won't let me.
Jared is the best out here, quick, straight to the point, detailed instructions. I watch no one else because I don't want my precious time wasted. Thanks Jared!

As you´ve recently talked about it in the podcast, i wanted to let you know that i really appreciate you putting in the time and effort to produce these super detailed userguides, very helpfull for beginners getting their first camera and even intermediate or pros when it comes to complex menus. Keep up the great work.
I must have watched a zillion videos on UA-cam, and I never left a comment. But this one deserves a big 'thank you'! So, thank you for taking the time to make this video that has saved me a ton of time and increased my knowledge on this camera immensely. On my first day of owning the R8, you have walked me through all the settings and now I'm good to go, to learn and to enjoy!. So, again, thanks! Appreciated!
Thanks, Jared! I don’t own an R8. I probably won’t ever buy an R8 because I own a Sony a7R-V and don’t really have any need for an R8. But nevertheless, I watched this entire video and found it quite entertaining. As a professional, I want to constantly stay up to date about the features of each camera brand as well as where to find specific settings so I can help other people using other camera systems.
The index finger is called the index finger because the word "index" comes from an earlier word that means "to show". The index finger is also known as the pointer finger, forefinger, trigger finger, and digitus secundus.
I bought the R8 about 3 weeks ago and i love it. It’s my first ever camera and i am using it for fashion photography. From day 1 i started shooting manual since i felt that would give me the best feeling for whatever does what. And it has worked out perfectly for me. Just wrapped up my first fashion project a few days ago and im happy with how it turned out.

@@movielover2172 counldnt tell. but definitely a lot. I've shot for hours on raw with no battery loss. besides you could always usb charge in the meantime!
Thank you very much for this video. I have the R8 since about a month, and I am very happy with it. I'm not new to photography, but the R8 has so many more options and features than my 7D and M50-II, so I learned a lot today. And it is much more fun to go through all the settings with you than with the book. 😃 Greetings from Switzerland
The other use case for allowing the camera to take photos with no lens attached is when using manual lenses. I do Astrophotography and manual lenses are a way of life for me. Because the lens has no electronics the camera thinks there is no lens attached.
I watched your video when i was setting up my EOS R10 and i just picked up EOS R8 and i am watched your video again. Thank you so very much, i hope youtube pays you well for your exceptional content
Hi Jared. I just got my Canon EOS R8 and absolutely love it! I’m switching from the Canon EOS T7i so it’s taking me a little getting used to, but all in all I am very happy making this switch. It seems like everyone is going from DSLR to mirrorless. I love that I can still use my EF lenses and can also use the same battery from my T7i.
Jared, I have saturated myself with videos and right now am at the Magenta - AF Menu . I have been (So far) so impressed with the level of detail you have provided with even just the RED menu, giving confidence to being able to make decisions on what is right for me. I am not new to photography but, going from a 2009 Canon 50D DSLR to a Mirrorless Canon R8 which gave me the compactness I was looking for with all the ''bells and whistles'' and am overwhelmed with the bells, let alone the whistles, but you are doing a great job. When I first saw the length of the video, I was looking to ''fast track'' my knowledge base but ''haste makes waste'' and here, i feel like I am sitting in a comfortable University Classroom, with state of the art overheads and a great professor! I'll finish the rest of the class tomorrow .. Excellent job .. Bill G. (and there will be a post review when I'm done!)
Super helpful, thanks for putting the time into making this video! Reading the manual is one thing but hearing the pros/cons of a setting from a pro is more helpful to me. Now I finally have the AF settings configured perfectly for what I need.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I have just bought the camera and i was dreading going through the manual, not understand what things do, googling them to see how i need to set them. This has optimised my time and mental health :)
Jared you are hilarious. And you showed me a whole new world here with my R8 -- no idea it had so much configurability. My eyes just glazed over all the icons on the screen, now I know what they mean and that I can make them disappear if I want. Already reprogrammed some buttons and my camera feels even more my own now. Thank you!

I chose the R8. I had to sell my eos r and the 24-105 L for a weird cash flow reason. I did not like the eos r. When I came back to the market, I bought the r8 with the 24-105L Great start. I also sold the 15-35 L 2.8 and an ef 100 to 400 f4. 2. Replaced with the 14-35 f4 L much lighter and with modern cameras, who needs to haul around a massive 2.8 chunk of lens? I also replaced the ef 100-400 with an adapter for the rf 100-500L. Not really used this yet. So impressed with the forward journey of Canon since I bought my eos r. Jared thanks for your guide. Why does my red menu only have five pages? Your guide shows more pages.? I think eight. Do I need to update my software? I bought my R8 at Allen’s Camera.
Thank you so much for this detailed video. Because you have a very clear pronunciation, I was able to understand it very well, even though English is not my native language."
It is reverse. A lower Kelvin with White-balance is a warmer color and the higher Kelvin is (for a humans) a "colder" blueish light. Take young hot stars for example. Very high temperature, very blue light. The opposite is a colder red dwarf or a red giant which have a more reddish light. We humans perceive these lights as opposite of the actual temperature. Maybe it is a instinctual thing where we associate a reddish color with warmth of a fire.
Hi I am following your video with my new EOS R8 and during the setting mode M at 57:26 min, you are talking about the AF operation . When I am on the M mode , I can only see one AF operation which is MF . Why I don't have the other options such as Servo/ one shot/ AI Focus ? thank you so much for your help ! Canon should be paying Jared for this - not because he needs sponsors, but because he's doing the job they couldn't be bothered to do properly.

I have no interest in sports photograpy. I try to be a youtuber. Jared reminds he is a sports focused photography channel every single minute in the video and gives rarely video focused content but I still watched the full 2 hours of his video and loved it :D No regrets.
“I know what middle finger is”… hilarious!!
Jared thanks for your guide. Why does my red menu only have five pages? Your guide shows more pages.? I think eight. Do I need to update my software? I bought my R8 at Allen’s Camera.
thank you so much i watched the entire thing it was super helpful i am looking forward to giving it a try taking photos
This dude is hilarious. Crank up that sensitivity
Fro knows the R8 ✊!!
I really enjoy learning how to use my new camera with you !
Using for years third party batteries and never got any problems.
Not on my G7Xmk2 M50 M6mk2 R6 R6mk2

I love you buddy. thanks for showing me the canon R8. Im all about budget full frame cameras and the canon RP is great but this has the guts of the r6 mark ii with RP body. for me that's a win! overheating is an issue a little bit. but so far I have managed with a full hour of on and off shooting
