actually we have access to these days on-demand online, much more convenient. I've seen hundreds of concerts via UA-cam and i'm eternally grateful for it
I hated that I had to go to work that day, so my older brother recorded this entire concert for me on his VCR that cost $800 and was the size of an end table. Gotta love (and miss) the 80's.
Everything about this is outstanding. The old Wembley looks iconic. No mobile phones. Bowie looks and sounds like a god. We'll never see these times again.
Absolutely brilliant ..........Absolutely brilliant !!!..Iconic British genius ,,R.I.P. David Jones ..David Bowie .............Thanks for the memories .

Oh I do too, the unlucky ones were those who queued all night for tickets but the tickets were all sold out before they got to the front of the queue. The tickets cost £25, and just look at all the brilliant artists we saw. I went to the Nelson Mandela tribute concert too, it was good but nothin compared to Live Aid
I feel exactly like you do! My friend got me tickets to see Bowie, probably five or 10 rows back from the stage and I could hardly breathe as I was in awe of him! My poor friend went home with bruises on his arm as I kept lovingly slapping and punching him and screaming “no way!!!”
I was 22cwhen this song was popular and I loved David bowie and I still love that song to this day even though David is not with us anymore his music still will live on and on 😢😢😢
My dad died a few months ago. He recorded this live on vhs while he danced with me and my older brother in his arms. Him replaying this video before he went to work is one the greatest memories of my childhood
my dad sold his car to go see david bowie and queen live, traveled with very little money, got shitfaced after the show and passed out outside the venue but if i don't show up after 1am its the end of the world
I recently learned how emotionally heavy that day was for David, in particular. Not too long beforehand, his older brother, who he loved and looked up to a great deal, had taken his own life. I don't know how I'd be able to handle that kind of pain, and still do something amazing, like this concert. Major respect. (5/30/2024)

I did not know that, but I am sure that it added to Bowie's intensity. I know he sang "Heroes" for his son, but no doubt he was also thinking of his lost brother. The other "performance" that I enjoyed was the collection of German artists who sang "Nakt im Wind" in the shadow of the Kolner Dom. It was a powerful, gritty, honest song! I compare it favourably in opposition to the American offering, "We are the World" which seemed typically American self-centred, whereas the German song made the point about desert conditions, starvation, and the world's uncaring attitude very openly!
Bowie is an absolute legend, there will never be the likes of him again, I’m nearly 52, and I feel privileged to have experienced living in an age where artists like him were around………..
"I'd like to dedicate this song to my son, all of our children and the children of the world. " Then proceed to blow the fxcking place away. Just magic - the crowd and band together here.
My bedroom walls were covered in posters of this beautiful, talented iconic legend. I watched this live! I’m 62 but still remember all of it. I am so lucky to have been alive at this time. Queen were also sensational. Rest in Peace David and Freddie. I doubt we will ever see your like again. ☹️
Why surreal?....time passes and this concert was 35 years ago..so of course his son would be 49..you don't have to be Einstein to figure that out. I was 16 at the time and now I am 51...is that also surreal?...just asking

"We could be heroes, oh we can beat them forever and ever, we're nothing, and nothing can help us" a song written near the Berlin Wall before its fall. apropos for now.
Queen fan here. This was a fantastic performance from David Bowie. And he had a ton of charisma. And was so down to earth. David Bowie. Hero. Legend. Forever.
On the top of my «to do list before I die» I had «hear David bowie perform heroes live». I never got to experience that, and it really makes me sad. My dad went to four David Bowie concerts, the last one in 2004 and he promised me that next time he’d take me with him (I was 7 years old). And then he stopped performing, and there never Were a next time. I was so upset when he died, and I get sad every time I hear this song because it reminds me that I never will have the chance to se him.. rest in peace my hero❤️
David Bowie I was 6 years old when you died. And god am I sad about that I will never have the honour in seeing you live. But I also have the privilege in being able to listen to your music over and over again filling my head with your voice and lyric because you are a f*cking icon. And at least I can see you live online. Love you Bowie, hope you have a good time up there on mars.
I think it's fantastic that you are a teen and love Bowie as much as I do in my late 50s. It proves music transcends time and brings people together. More than being rich and famous, I think that's all he ever wanted to do. 🐺❤️
@@chantellelitmanen7896 That is true, I think that all of us have the strength to be a hero, one day, in one place, or maybe for one person...the kind of strength that comes from the heart.
probably the greatest live performance of all, lookat the audience at the start, a few people clapping, and then the whole stadium realising this is it!
Whoever said that is an ass who doesn't know what they are talking about. Many many people who have died are still spoken about. Good people and bad people.
Amazing. Bowie singing one of his many iconic songs @ Live Aid.....one of the largest GLOBAL concerts , ever.. A VERY special & magical experience. Never to be replicated... I was so fortunate to see Bowie in concert in the 1980's in Houston , Texas with my friend Tahir .. We floated out of the venue after the show. We had been touched by someone special...
I remember sitting through this, 18, taking the day as it came, if only I knew then I'd be watching gods of music, Bowie, Mercury etc. I'm fairly confident in a 1000 years time people will be treasuring their vinyl copies like some relic of history.
I was 18 too. You take things for granted. NEVER take things like this for granted. I’m 52 now. I don’t take genius for granted any more. Freddie’s gone. Bowie is gone. Before that, Lennon was taken far , far too early. No more Gerry Rafferty, no more Phil Lynott . The list goes on and on. Young people out there, just don’t take stuff like this for granted.

You certainly have great taste mate, Have a great day ! - Random French guy
@@Hockawr I wish I had your taste in music when I was your age. It's great that you're already able to recognize the value of an artist like Bowie. His music isn't always immediately accessible. Sometimes it requires repeated listens. Ziggy is incredible! If you haven't listened to it already, I'd highly recommend his early album The Man Who Sold the World. Bowie really liked that album.
Come on Brit1141 let's get a Live Aid I Was There fan club going to compare memories, there must be close to 20 of us commenting on David's performance alone
This was the best day ever, nothing has ever come close to this. Everyone quite literally loved each other that one day - we were hugging and kissing randoms, no hatred only pure joy and love. Awesome!
Bowie was pure class. His performance that day was just superb. Never has Heroes been sung with such power. If there was ever a song to sum up that day in 1985 then it was this one.
I'm 23 years young and believe me, I wish I could've been at this concert. I envy anyone who was here. David Bowie, Queen, Elton John, etc... Legendary
If I could go back in time, I'd push Bowie out on stage ten minutes before this while Queen was on so he and Freddie could sing 'Pressure' together. What a moment that would have been.
I am so happy I grew up when I did..... the 70's and 80's were such an amazing time for music.... I still can't believe Bowie is gone... and Prince.... and all the truly talented, unique musicians I grew up with..... so glad I was around BEFORE cell phones... just everyone living in the moment and enjoying the music LIVE instead of through a camera lens.
Yeah totally agree. I get annoyed as people focus on who was the best. I was there for me this was the highlight but then I am a Bowie fan but It doesn't fucking matter ..It is about giving people life and hope
Having been there, in the nosebleeds at the other end of the stadium, I can attest to the fact that the crowd went bonkers for Queen...and then...when Bowie walked out, the energy went off the charts. Bowie was truly a royal and majestic presence in the UK. He was their Elvis, but so much more. He was utterly unique and unparalleled. I think even Freddie would (grudgingly) admit that.

I love Bowie for the sake that he is not always 100% accurate or perfect. Just inspires everyone who isn't an insane singer to still do music. What a legend he was!
Bowie was the most enigmatic, fashionable, inspirational and ever changing performer ever in history. His albums from day one, right till the end are still fresh and listenable, as good as the day I bought them. God bless David and all our new heroes in the NHS. We'd all be lost without our heroes.

Those were the days, best days of my life. We had the best music, it seemed the best of everything. I feel sorry for anyone who didn’t experience these days.❤
Every day I see our freedom and optimism fade away a little bit more. I miss the 80s so much.
YEP BEST DAYS OFF MY LIFE.
The 80's were great but you should have been around for the 70's! They were pretty damn cool.
cmooon man, 90' was great also ;-)
actually we have access to these days on-demand online, much more convenient. I've seen hundreds of concerts via UA-cam and i'm eternally grateful for it
I hated that I had to go to work that day, so my older brother recorded this entire concert for me on his VCR that cost $800 and was the size of an end table. Gotta love (and miss) the 80's.
You quit your job for that ... 100
I think Bowie was many people's hero, damn legend
So FAB.... I hope my YT David Bowie Interpretations of his classics make him smile from far far away.
Hello Sue, how are you feeling today?
Everything about this is outstanding. The old Wembley looks iconic. No mobile phones. Bowie looks and sounds like a god.
We'll never see these times again.
You're right. We won't. I think about it often and it's sad.
Only Bowie could follow Queen.
For a nano second in time, we thought we could make a difference. At least we still have the music..
Of course there’s no phones around. Mobile phones didn’t come until until 30 years after
@@Uliburgh22 Nope mobile phones were around... they weren't smart phones.
Look up History of Mobile Phones.
Absolute legend 😢😢👍👍👍
Absolutely brilliant ..........Absolutely brilliant !!!..Iconic British genius ,,R.I.P. David Jones ..David Bowie .............Thanks for the memories .
I love that he identified each member of the group and appreciated that they got together so quickly. He was always such a class act, and so sorely missed.
absolutely right top bloke
Only he introduced the backing singers as Helena and Theresa Spring .......... they were, in fact, Tessa Niles and Theresa Springer........
So Cool.... I hope my YT David Bowie Interpretations of his classics make him smile from far far away.

@Galo well I do, can't speak for the other 71,999 🤔
Oh I do too, the unlucky ones were those who queued all night for tickets but the tickets were all sold out before they got to the front of the queue. The tickets cost £25, and just look at all the brilliant artists we saw. I went to the Nelson Mandela tribute concert too, it was good but nothin compared to Live Aid
Believe me, those who were there that day -- me included -- know just how lucky we were to be there. And I was there by accident!
I feel exactly like you do! My friend got me tickets to see Bowie, probably five or 10 rows back from the stage and I could hardly breathe as I was in awe of him! My poor friend went home with bruises on his arm as I kept lovingly slapping and punching him and screaming “no way!!!”
I agree. Probably the greatest line-up of musical talent since Woodstock.
I was 22cwhen this song was popular and I loved David bowie and I still love that song to this day even though David is not with us anymore his music still will live on and on 😢😢😢
5:22 He stops the music, the crowd applauds and then he starts again powerful. The crowd gets crazy. What a concert, what a time.
Perfeito ❤

As a musician, this is not easy to do without rehearsal and from what I know, there were no rehearsals for this show.
Bowies smile shows his excitement and appreciation
Hello Bronwynj, how are you feeling today?
The energy of the band is fucking incredible. They're partying on stage and it's an amazing thing to behold. Bowie is in his prime here.
All the greats of music , they are leaving us now I’m just grateful I lived in the time
My dad died a few months ago. He recorded this live on vhs while he danced with me and my older brother in his arms. Him replaying this video before he went to work is one the greatest memories of my childhood
That is a fine memory!
Hey watch the ending (well all of it actually) of Jojo Rabbit
Your Father is a Hero..because he
Likes Bowies. Music.
Nice!
Awesome memory
my dad sold his car to go see david bowie and queen live, traveled with very little money, got shitfaced after the show and passed out outside the venue but if i don't show up after 1am its the end of the world
Hahaha! You just wait until you become a parent......
fucking awful parents
that's because Dad knows what goes on after 1 a.m.
Hahahahahahaha brilliant 😂😂😄😄
That is not very responsible and nothing to be really proud of
God, Bowie was such a humble performer. Great voice, presence, you could tell how much he enjoyed his band and the crowd.
I recently learned how emotionally heavy that day was for David, in particular. Not too long beforehand, his older brother, who he loved and looked up to a great deal, had taken his own life. I don't know how I'd be able to handle that kind of pain, and still do something amazing, like this concert. Major respect. (5/30/2024)
@@daniellemusella1594 THANK YOU for sharing that !! You just equated what DAVID did on that glorious day!!!... your comment will live forever... therefore your Brother will live forever 💕

It's the grief in life's experiences that made him such an incredible artist.
Oh my gawd fathers 😮 no way! Lost a couple of male friends to Suicide x just so sad x one was a work colleague, Steve Brown x to add insult to injury he took his own
Life on my birthday, 27th August x so I beat meself up, I invited him to a birthday, no pre birthday gathering with fellow church friends x just cant help but think if he.. *sorry* just so incredibly sad that Men still feel they can't talk to anyone to get the help they need, mental health is woefully under funded, understaffed and just awful xxxxx

Killer voice, looks and genre bending performances make him one of the greatest singers of all time.

Amazing. Bowie singing one of his many iconic songs @ Live Aid.....one of the largest GLOBAL concerts , ever.. A VERY special & magical experience. Never to be replicated... I was 18 too. You take things for granted. NEVER take things like this for granted. I’m 52 now. I don’t take genius for granted any more. Freddie’s gone. Bowie is gone. Hello
