@@fiore7798 Trauma to his left eye is the reason, the muscles which contract the pupil were damaged so his pupil was in open position since. He apparently wanted to keep it all to himself and endure it privately (with his family and a select few others, that is). I think he had lung cancer which then spread to his liver so his chances of survival were basically just not even there. In other words, because he knew he was dying, there was no public announcement like "yo, my days are numbered guys". This situation being dissimilar to other celebrities who get diagnosed, who then make the announcement, who then also announce their plans to fight it. I think his doctor just told him he needed to get his affairs in order and start preparing for the end, so rather than deal with the endless press and publicity that would come from his "battle with cancer" -- he just kept it quiet so he could be treated like a normal human being for the rest of his life. Also, it's a very private issue anyway, he probably just (rightfully) didn't think people had any business knowing until it was all set in stone -- even if said stone was his own gravestone.
+voteZDLR The end must have come rapidly. His producer, Tony Visconti, reports Bowie had written 5 songs for a follow up album to Blackstar. They thought he had more time. @5:16 David is talking about his 22 month old daughter (she's 20 now) Alexandria "Lexi" Jones, and how she reacted when seeing the beautiful moon. In memory of her father, Lexi got a tattoo of a crescent moon that says "Daddy, 1947-2016". Im not sure if the story is the reason behind the tattoo, but i like to think so
Could be because of Major Tom and her brother's film "Moon". Lots of reasons in fact.
I miss the NBC show. Conan should show more clips from those days. R.I.P. David Bowie
+TheHehe1223 I'm not sure he can. A lot of the old characters he had are owned by NBC. I think NBC released these so they didn't appear to be the biggest douches on the planet. This is all conjecture, I smell conspiracy in everything. But it's my best guess.
+Kjata316 Yeah, I'm sure they made an exception in light of the circumstances. To be fair, if they refused, we probably wouldn't know they refused so no one would call them d-bags.
faeriegeek Hrm, maybe. But I can see Conan getting fired up about it if it was denied and he's not one to let something like that go. Especially NBC.
+TheHehe1223 those were the golden days of conan
Nbc show during writers strike, best TV in history
Conan's expression at 6:34 is heart breaking.... Long live David, long live Rock n' Roll.
I love David Bowie with all my heart. A wonderful human being. Rock on for eternity.
We all loved him....we miss him...! We will never forget him...from Japan he loved.

Too funny! Bowie was such an incredible person, musician and had a wonderful sense of humor. May God rest his beautiful soul. Nice tribute, Conan!!
He looked better (and healthier) as he was getting older. Incredible.

He got off the drugs later in life. That's why.

Not this year, buddy.
TheSalamanderGamer ooh they were naming people who died last year. George Michael
What made Bowie so good is that he observed people. He just loved being around out in the world. He would spend his time, people watching, or just chatting up a random shop owner or maybe a random person at a park.
He put his observations of life around him in his music.
Another Legend gone. WHY MUST THE GOOD DIE YOUNG?!

conan really seems to be sad after the clip. thanks for sharing.
+derSpuk You're right. You can see it in his eyes before and after the clips. He was obviously genuinely fond of him.
Thought the same, looks like he needs to let it all out, like us all.
I've seen this about a dozen times and I'm still see David as a genuinely fun person. His Hickory Dickory Dock is one for the ages. Conan thank you to and your staff for providing such a beautiful tribute. Loved every second of it.
It's unbelievable how much you can miss someone you don't even know,
True, same here. 😢
Aw, and Conan was a sweetheart for doing this segment. Respect.
It’s 2019 and I’m still crying

4:20 just three words: "Ground control to...." and I already have goosebumps.
05:30 lol David Bowie's eldest son made a film called "Moon"
A great movie!! Highly recommanded
David Bowie's only son!
Duncan Jones? Short film??
My emotions are running out of my eyes.
I am glad Bowie survived in an era which everyone didn’t ask him for a selfie and just enjoyed their moment meeting a legend.
"He doesn't think so, the guy there."
imagine being called out by david bowie himself, if that were me, i'd never be able to live that moment down.
Nor would I want to. How envious would everyone be?
David Bowie suffered in silence. He was a class act!
Bowie's eyes are so majestic
P.S: they're natural
I Love Lea Thompson if by natural you mean he naturally got punched in one and got that color, yeah.
@@luisaguilar7997 Big nope! David eyes had a very weird anomaly called ''heterochromia'' which makes the iris changed to different colors.
@@fiore7798 Trauma to his left eye is the reason, the muscles which contract the pupil were damaged so his pupil was in open position since. His left iris is blue, so no heterochromia (which has effects on other physiological processes).
There are other ways to affect the color. I had severely damaged an iris on one of my eyes in childhood (9% of it was intact) and it still haven't recovered so the damaged eye is lighter blue than the healthy one.
Giancarlo Osorto well, that makes much more sense, but I didn’t hear this thing about him getting punched in the eye in some conversation, if you watch the Netflix documentary: Bowie, the man who changed the world- I think it’s called, they say it right there
@@fiore7798 So confident. So wrong. He had anisocoria (Left pupil was always fully dilated). In 1962 he got punched in the eye over a girl by his schoolmate George Underwood. George would years later design a few of his album covers.
What a beautiful human he was , missed ❤ xxx
I love this. Never saw it before, I can't believe it is coming up on a year. Conan's face at the end was heartbreaking:((. Rip sweet prince.

This is delightful. I always thought of David as an sad, angry, quiet, even sullen man. He was wonderful and I missed it.

"There was Ziggy Stardust" isn't that Halloween Jack?
People forget or just don't know that Ziggy Stardust, Alladin Sane and Halloween Jack are different characters
@@misaru3076 They kinda weren't though, more like evolutions of the same character. But i could see how one could also consider them different personas, it's ok too. Also, yeah. Conan made a mistake anyhow.
Was about to comment this
Yeah IT was diamond dogs era
That Halloween Jack is a real cool cat, and he lives on top of Manhattan Chase.
+voteZDLR Very respectable.
+voteZDLR I think you are quite right. How a person chooses to go out is his business. He gave us the gift of a final album.
+voteZDLR I think it makes perfect sense. This is a personal business and he did the best he could to leave us with an amazing last gift.
***** Very good analogy.
+voteZDLR The end must have come rapidly. His producer, Tony Visconti, reports Bowie had written 5 songs for a follow up album to Blackstar. They thought he had more time. I miss Bowie being on the planet very much and realize it will take some time to adjust. Like a 7.1 earthquake. A shift in reality.
I miss him, he left a hole behind.
A very big painful dull ache for me.
Now we know how many holes it takes to fill a lifetime.
Katy Lunger I miss Bowie too. He was a truly special musician and gentleman. I play his music everyday which makes me smile or sometimes cry
same here.....Alyssa. miss him very much
Let his discography fill that hole.
I was very fortunate to see him live with Nine Inch Nails in 95. Strangest concert I've ever been to but man I'll never forget that one! Sometimes I'm reminded how grateful I am that didn't miss that opportunity. One of the best most unique and original in the business
I find comfort knowing mostly everyone else feels the way I do about David Bowie. The audience has so much respect for him they were all totally silent until obviously someone was trying to ask Conan at 0:17 "is it okay to clap?" (to pay their respect) and he picked up on it and said "yeah!". Such a great man, such great music. Rest In Peace, David Bowie.
He was very handsome and just seemed like a really cool guy. R.I.P. David!!
