    One of the few videos that explains and demonstrates clearly how and why to get the back longer than the front. Great demo on elastic, too. My spouse laments so much that her favorite brand of jammies has gone out of business and I have about 15 yards of flannel. Time to fire up my Janome.

    Thank you SO MUCH! At 68, I'm entering the sewing arena a bit late, but all this mask sewing has given me a sewing bug. I did make a wrap-around skirt in high school, and a pair of bell bottoms to wear to Woodstock... and I haven't sewn a thing since until the need for masks ! Since I'm tall, 99% of the pajamas I buy shrink on the first washing, and the bottoms come inches above my ankles. This is where you enter the scene. I watched your video and thought... hmm, I think I can do this! Well, tonight I can tell you for sure... I CAN do this, I DID do this (though I do still have to hem the bottoms), they fit, they're comfy, and I am in HEAVEN! I actually made an article of clothing that I will actually wear, proudly! Thank you thank you thank you! If these hadn't turned out, I would have become frustrated and simply walked away, never knowing how wonderful it feels to not only complete, but be able to WEAR something I made myself! I have another 3 yards of flannel, and tomorrow I'll hem this first pair and make my second pair! Then, I'm gonna get creative and make a pair of sleep shorts, still using the same methods! Niler, you're a fantastic teacher, and I'll sew with you any day!

    I just got to thinking i need to get some more summer length pajama pants done. My only lightweight pair is threadbare on the rear end. So much so that they are see-through and also acquired a hole. Lol so i began my search on here to use my older pair of pants to make a new pair. and i found you. i think God sent me a miracle. this was the easiest tutorial to understand and so well done i could hug you to pieces right now. i have some light weight fabric i want to use. buut now that i know how to do this i can make warmer ones and lighter weight ones. i knew this way of making a pair of pajama pants using an old pair of pants existed. it was just i couldn't figure out where to find the video. so thank you so much Niler. i mean it. i have save the video and subscribed and liked this video. you are such a great teacher. god bless and hugs. oh your way of doingh elastic was something i have never seen before but it sure is easier than making a casing and trying to get elastic pulled through with a safety pin. so thats going to help me greatly too. wow what a great video.

    I just made my first pattern and finished my pajama pants following your instructions! I watched lots of other videos but found yours the easiest to follow. The tips you give for the crotch seams and easing (okay, mine wasn't the best attempt), and your way of putting in the elastic all helped this be one of the least frustrating sewing projects I have attempted. Thank you!

    This is SUCH a great video, thank you. I followed another one that didn't differentiate between front and back like you have and also didn't say anything about easing and feed dogs etc.. I guess they wanted to make it seem simple but one actually needs to know these details or else you end up with a failure, like my first pair (too tight around crotch area). Thanks so much, I am about to have a second attempt using your instructions, fingers crossed.

    Thank you so much for that.The first time I made pajamas for myself,I did not allow for the fact that my butt is bigger than my front(significantly so).I fave a small frame,but I have "a backside." The result was the front had too much fabric.I am so thankful for the TouTubers who have helped me to affectionately refer to UA-cam as UA-cam University.

    Did you pre-wash your cotton fabric? Also, what width of elastic did you use? Great video!

    • @NilerTaylor-relindesigns
      @NilerTaylor-relindesigns  5 років тому

      Not in this case I didn't, but you can if shrinkage is a concern for you. As far as the elastic goes, I used a 1" elastic. You can use any width that is comfortable for you. Hope this helps, thanks for your question.

  • @Liz-gr6tz

    Hi Niler, will this same process work if I use stretch cotton fabric? I was just wondering if it would gather at the back in the same way, or if I would need to do something different?

    • @NilerTaylor-relindesigns
      @NilerTaylor-relindesigns  Рік тому

      If you cut the pieces to match, using stretch fabric won't matter, the left and right back pieces should still match up.

  • @soniasantana1177
    @soniasantana1177 5 років тому

    Hello!
    I have a doubt when I finished to cut the from piece and the back piece, the back piece is more longer than the front? My primary languague is Spanish and don't understand some parts.
    Thanks
    Great job

    • @NilerTaylor-relindesigns
      @NilerTaylor-relindesigns  5 років тому +1

      Yes Sonia, that is correct. you back piece should be bigger than the front because our back side should be bigger than our front side.

  • @valeriehofmann2615
    @valeriehofmann2615 Рік тому

    I messed up and the relaxed waist is to small. How big should it be before putting in the elastic?

    • @NilerTaylor-relindesigns
      @NilerTaylor-relindesigns  Рік тому

      The waist band should be the same width as the waist of the pj's. You can decide how much "gathering" you want at the waist which will determine how much fabric is left for the elastic.
