Unless they're very thin beach towels, that's a difficult fabric to work with. More tips on thick fabrics here: mellysews.com/colleen-tote-bag-review-how-to-sew-thick-fabric/

I have not sewn for myself for years and years...I've bought patterns galore over the years, and I've done craft sewing, but clothing, well, I had no need for a long time...my PJs are now deteriorating, they cost too much for what little you get commercially. Thank you for inspiring me to get my stash of fabric out and make myself some new duds. I like scrub style tops, loose, airy, non-binding, and these bottoms will make some lovely PJs and I can make shorts or long bottoms, YAY!! Thank you!

In case this helps anyone: for some reason my printer printed the pattern a little bigger than it should have been. The 2" x 2" test square was almost 2.5" x 2.5". The shorts came out L/XL. I'm pregnant so I was generous with my elastic, but even if I'd made the elastic shorter it could easily be considered L. For reference the widest part of my hips is about 40" and I have lots of room in these.
Also, this is the very first pattern I've ever used and I'm super not confident but it really was easy! So glad I found this video and pattern!

Very smart using card stock paper as a guide! Will be so much easier for me. I always get a wee frustrated when ironing a raw edge. I’m glad I ran across you video. Can’t wait to try. Thanks for sharing your very easy and well spoken instructions!

15:35 I suggest that before one stitches the ends of the elastic together and closes up the band -- try on the shorts to see that they fit okay in all respects. Even earlier, after making the basic shorts (sewing together the seams), try them on then. Avoid building up a lot of stitches one might have to tear out if the shorts don't fit.
