Super EASY Elastic Waistband - 3 ways!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you three easy ways to add an elastic waistband to a pair of pants. I was brought some pyjamas and soft pants to which I inserted an elastic waistband to make them more practical. I also wanted to make a video on this because this is a basic skill that comes extremely handy in this sewing life!

I use the second technique (with some variations) on PJ pants, yoga pants and other stretch fabrics. I use a casing on woven fabric with one additional step-rather than sewing the elastic ends together, I cut it at the correct waist measurement and use a small piece of woven fabric to butt the raw ends together and sew a small box the width of the elastic and about 3/4" wide. This eliminates the bulk of 2 layers of elastic at the closure.
This way is great! Thanks for sharing 😊
The elastic that I sewed to scrub pants three months ago has twisted and now I know why! I will have to use a new piece of elastic and then stitch in the ditch at the seams. This video is great! Thank You!
Thanks so much 🥰 I'm glad you liked it!
I have seen at least 5 videos on how to do waist band ,THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!!I would use all three . I have at least 10 pair of pants i need to replace the waist band THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I agree. Please, give this woman a show! The instructions are so clear and concise, the situations for use of each method are easy to incorporate into each and every project. This was so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much! You are so kind 💕
I absolutely love our videos. Not only are you incredibly talented but you always make me laugh!!! I agree. Give this lady a tv show!
Thank you so much! 😊
Thankx for the tips
Always welcome 🥰
best video ive found
Thank you! 😊
Thank you! I like the first two and am working towards learning how to do the second one - the orange pants. Appreciate you!
Thank you for the instruction and entertainment! I find that elastic stretches out over the life of a garment so I always use the first technique so I can open and cinch up a bit at a later date. That soft elastic in the third option is really nice but very hard to source.
Yes! I agree with you. The first one is my way to go!
The last elastic can be found at bra suppliers.
Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊
I remember watching my Mother, sewing, making our clothes. She had bought a cam-type Neckie. I know I spelled that wrong. She made a double-breasted suit-coat for me, that looked professional. Pants, shirts, I have a picture where all three of us are wearing the same material. Same style shirts, different sizes, of course. Mom, Dad, and me, about 15 years old. That was over half a century ago. She did everything like a pro. Yup, I miss her, but I remember her using a big safety-pin, to put in the elastic or the tie-cords.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO. I SUBBED.

Beautiful memories! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for sharing. Very clear tutorial. I prefer the orange technique.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Great video! I like your sense of humor.
Thanks sooo much for sharing your knowledge!❤️❤️❤️
It’s my pleasure!! 🥰
The best tutorial for elastic. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! 😊
Thank you. I always wondered how to sew an elastic waist band. I am going to use your tutorials. 😊
My pleasure! Have fun 🥰
I woud do the all, and I have done them all! And IMHO, you did it exactly right. But I know you do have a lot more experience than I do.
Thanks! I'm going to turn a bunch of ill-fitting dresses into skirts, which I find easier to mix and match anyway, so I will probably be using all three of these techniques today!
Sounds great! 😊
love watching you- so charismatic
Thanks so much! You are so sweet 🥰
this video is really entertaining and educational! loved it! thank you!
Thanks so much 🥰
I like and use all three of these. Thank you for all you teach us. I have learned so much from you.
Thanks so much Evelyn! Your support means a lot to us 💞💞💕
I will be trying the third tomorrow! Thanks!
Hi!
I will do all..
I just finished 5 pair of pants for a friend.
She bought a 1/4 inch waistband.
She's 45 in waistband...So i told her it would be better with wider band...
She said no.
So i sewed them to her instructions...
I pray its ok..Time will tell😮😮

Thank you so much for this! I’m just about to start sewing a pair of pants and I want to use the elastic like in the third example. Perfect timing! 😊
That's so nice! Good luck with your project 🥰
What a perfect video!! The first one is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you soooo much.
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
Seriously so entertaining ... I forgot that I came here to learn lol
🥰🥰🥰
YOU are a great teacher!
You explained so clearly each step for the three different ways!
Thank you!!!
Now, what if I don’t own a serger???
How do I put in the elastic as you did, NOT using a serger
Thanks! 💕 if you don't have a serger, you can use the overcast stitch on your regular sewing machine. Zigzag works also. Cheers 😊

I Love your Energy!!!
Thank you! 😊
I could actually do all of these!!! It's a miracle. I have only done the first one and tried the 2nd one but it didn't work because I cut my elastic way shorter than the top of the pants!! I see you did it about the same. and I loved adding the elastic to the top and making it the top of the pants. I have to try that also!!
Ouuu that’s great yes it’s good to give them a try. Thank you for watching and commenting as always! 🥰
Love this! Thank you!!!! ❤
I’m so glad to hear that! ❤️❤️
Thank you for your tutorial very helpful information. ❤

Excellent, thanks ❤
Thank you 😊 💓 ☺️
Love it great way to place elastic ❤

Thank you! I have some pjs that need new waistbands, I can’t use the existing casing, this really helps.
Yesss exactly that’s a perfect scenario!
Thanks! Super helpful!

I’m glad to help!!
I love your ways!!❤
Thank you
Just like yourself I would use all three methods where it applies! Thank you for the video
Thanks 🥰
Thank you sweet lady you are amazing ❤❤❤
You are! Thank you 😊
The last one is for me
Thanks, there will be times I will use them all.
Exactly! I’m glad to help :))
I have elastic waist pants that have the wide elastic. I find that the most comfortable.
I think the 2nd one is the easiest ❤️
Now, I see why my waist bands are awful 🤭.. Thank you for sharing the correct way to do elastic waist bands 😊
My pleasure 🥰 Thanks for watching!
Hi, I love your videos and could do with some guidance on a waistband method that you don't show in this video.
The elastic is joined at each end, before sewing to the top edge of the skirt on the inside with a server. Then you roll it over once, to the inside, which covers the elastic. I then seal the bottom edge closed with a coverstitch machine. This works great with knit fabrics, but with a satin bias cut skirt I get horrible twisting/roping along the top when I've finished. How do I stop this please? X
I like the last one best. Looks the way I would want it to. Would this work with jeans if I cut off the waistband?
Yes! Although a knit waistband will work better. Cheers 😊
Dear Downtown, Good video. A Question, Will a too-thin ropey waistband for sweatpants feel more uncomfortable (dig into the waist) than a thicker 1 to 1.5 inches?
Correct me if im wrong. But i have a big belly. If i used the thicker elastic, would it help to flatten tummy a bit. I find with the thin elastic, it sit in my fat rolls and makes my belly stand out more. How do i create a slimming effect with elastic?
Yes a thicker elastic will help
3rd is very easy
🥰🥰🥰
I have a few pants that could use #3. Can you recommend the softest, plushest wide elastic? Off to check Wawak...
What if the fabric is pj bottoms and stretchy? Do I stretch the elastic as I sew on top and then turn under and sew?
Lol !! ❤ . Thank you 😊
how did you measure the waist elastic for the wide version? I have a serger coverstitch machine. would I use that for the top stitch but sew the elastic into it? I have made pajama pants before and just put elastic in the back and then a drawstring in the front. that seemed to work OK, but I'm not very good at any of it.
When sewing the two ends of the elastic, am I supposed to use a different stitch, or is straight stitch enough?
Hi! Zigzag is better but you can use straight stitch too. Cheers! 🥰
Wow, so helpful video thanks 😊
Where do get the elastic from?
Hi! You can get it from Wawak. Cheers 😊
😍😍😍😍😍
How much shorter do you make the waistband elastic on the waist circumference for a child’s garment
Around 2" shorter. It depends on the elastic. Cheers 😊
Would you mind sharing which brand and model of scissors are you using? Looks so sharp and big. I'm planning on investing and getting one.
Looks like a Gingher
Yes! It's a Gingher. I got it at Cleaner's Supply. It is extremely good. You'll love it 🥰
Fact checkers!!! 😂😂😂 You cut just the corners that need to be cut!
Exactly!!! 😭😭😭
She is the MF best boooooom
Thank you for this upload. I'm currently working on a cosplay the requires an elastic band, but I intend to adapt your methods to the legs. Kind of to get that sausage sweats look. Thanks so much again. Keep up the good work.
Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test: Have you ever lied, stolen, or used God’s name in vain? Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” If you have done these things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart, and the Bible warns that one day God will punish you in a terrible place called Hell. But God is not willing that any should perish. Sinners broke God’s Law and Jesus paid their fine. This means that God can legally dismiss their case: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Then Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death. Today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will give you eternal life as a free gift. Then read the Bible daily and obey it. God will never fail you
Thank you
Thanks for all 3 methods, I have used #1 and #2 but want to try the third method. Will you do a video for applying elastic on the back only and leaving front waistband flat. I have seen videos of this method but still confused. I am sure you will do a better job explaining and demonstrating sewing this type waistband! Then I can finally understand and can try it out. Thank you for all your outstanding videos.
Thanks so much! I'm going to make this video soon. Cheers 😊
Thank you. I've learned so much today about elastic. I have a question. When you use the serger, are you stretching the elastic as you serge?
Yes! But it's just a little bit. Remember that the serger stitch is very flexible, so you technically don't need to. Cheers 😊
@ jemtebelle I totally agree with you
🥰🥰🥰
Very helpful information!
Thanks 🥰
Omg i just came across this lady & subscribed immediately....why? She has an amazing personality!
Thanks so much 🥰 You are so kind 💕
It has been so long like years since I have sewn anything. I have so many alterations to do, and i thank you my dear for bringing back what I forgot to do. You are a great teacher. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 😊
Thank you for the easy video on sewing elastic waistbands. I used the first instruction, worked out perfectly and I even sewed the label back in place so I could tell the back from the front of the pants.
I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know 😊
Very nice. The second is new to me.
I do like a wide elastic at the top of pants, as I'm tall and long legged, with narrow hips and have constant issues with pants slowly sliding down while walking.
Waist high pants make me look oddly proportined and anything low rise won't stay in place with a regular waistband. Thank God for elastic 😅
The double row of stitching from the twin needle makes it look very neat and professional.
I think fashion and trends should be more diverse. Not every rise will fit the same to all women. Cheers 😊
hello DownTown.I love the lessen can you do Replace winder coat zipper? thank you do you have a sewing class on you tube too.
Hello 👋 This video will help you

Dear Downtown Taylor ❤ thank You Love your films 😊
Thanks so much for watching 🥰 😘 💕
Example #1 I have found to be easier for me. Thank you! I can practice the others.
Excellent! Thanks for watching 🥰
What is the name of the soft elastic? Did you call it Plush Elastic? Does Wawak sell that?
Hi. This is the link for this elastic.
www.braandcorsetsupplies.com/product/ep-137-98-plush-waistband-elastic-sports-bra-elastic/
You can get at Wawak the soft waistband elastic. It's a little thinner, but it will do the job.
Cheers
@@DowntownTailoring thank you
I love your videos will you be making more soon?
Yes of course! The new video is up

Yes TV show would be excellent. I'd be looking at her show all day. She has mad skills. Love all her videos
If there's no label in my pants, I sew a folded piece of ribbon in a loop in the back waist band to mark the back. l used the safety pin to put in elastic all my life, but was convinced to buy a special tool. Used it once, no good.
Same!!!!
Which tool do you hate? There are a few on the market now that have been tempting me. I have always used a diaper pin but when I can't find it (Just 1 left over from the last grand baby who is now 14 years old) using a regular safety pin never works for me, they tend to pop open midway through and get caught inside creating extra work and stab wounds for me. I have been considering buying a Clover brand Bodkin. Have you tried one of those?
Thank you for this! The last technique is really helpful.
I make a lot of boxers and I've been playing with methods for attaching the waistband elastic. I have a coverstitch machine that I would love to be using, but keeping the fabric and elastic lined up consistently is challenging. I feel better about it after watching lots of commercial sewing videos and seeing the specialized machines they have for this exact thing, but if you have any tips I'd love to. hear them!
Thanks for another great and easy-to-understand video. It's easy to see that you are THE professional!
Your videos always the right place and amount of explanation. And I enjoy the little personal notes ❤️ elastic looks a lot less scary now
Great technique!
I just love it.
Oh and the intro of the video! I love how funny you are!
Keep shining! You are a star!
