Sony takes the cake on all of these photo tests with the most natural looking images with overall good contrasts, sharpness, detail preservation and color reproduction. The extreme lowlight condition truly tests the hdr algorithms of all these smartphones but Sony didn't really do that bad with good amount of detail retention. We haven't touched yet on Sony's insane auto focus tracking and full manual controls. If Sony releases Xperia 5 V with these new features, it would be my next phone.

@@Worthless. I think the problem is they often speak about manual controls as if that's all an Xperia is good for. I don't see them using 4k/120 or showing how good the auto focus is etc. They never talk about the various strengths of an Xperia, it's always based on the basics and the strengths of the generic market.
      Highly frustrating.

iPhone is easily noticeable, due to its usual flaws
My 13 Pro always tone things down while making everything look artificial and weirdly contrasty
Even the S23 Ultra is better and I don’t like Samsung’s color science at all
The Pixel is OK but the HDR look is not for me
The Xperia is really good, natural rendition from detail to colors. That’s what I want from a camera

For each one of these, I correctly guessed the Samsung and the iPhone each time. I occasionally got the Sony and the Pixel confused, but I thought those two were easily the best. I thought the Samsung was the worst each time; they are either over or under sharpened or saturated and easy to spot. The iPhone's style is an acquired taste; I like it, but not as much as the vibrant color science on the Pixel, which continues to be the best camera phone of all time.

I'm glad the Xperia 1 V exist. Xperia has always the most exciting phones to come out in a while and definitely the most fun to use. To me at least.
Good photo quality, awesome manual modes and few of the most natural photos on a smartphones. Plus the multitude of features like front speakers, 4K screens, wired and wireless audio solutions and small features that improve a few quality of life usage. It's not perfect, but it's fun to use. Something missing on many phones today.

the reason i buy xperia phone is because their dedicate work to the manual mode and all that goodness from their alpha camera like colors science and luts all apply in the xperia phone . if you know how to shoot manual and use the camera then this xperia camera beat all others but in term of auto shooting just with AI auto tune then no it's not for everyone . anyway maybe because i love taking photo and quite serious about taking photo so that's why i hate when smartphone with their AI color tuning and stuff which make it looks too sharp and unreal also plastic

in main camera test there was a stark difference between sony and other phones. sony changed the game with this device, they really are flexing their quality hardware muscles to the market now it looks so DSLR.

Really interesting camera comparison, albeit with really dull images. I was able to spot the Sony pictures fairly reliably and that’s the camera I intend to buy. In the indoor dark ‘studio light’ shot, are we ignoring that the Pixel shot was out of focus?
In the last shot, you have a bright subject in the middle of darkness. The skin is over exposed so it looks like you used average metering. It could have been better with center-weighted metering to expose the skin better.

    • @EbNorth
      @EbNorth Рік тому

@@clausgedved8728 Don't Settle for lazy punch hole design. It was only started because people wanted a *bezel less* look, so these companies stupidly did the punch hole and said *look small our bezels are!* And UA-camrs got all happy like fools.
The Xperia has nice bezels to hold beautiful front firing stereo speakers. That also is worth getting the phone for.
As far as black *bars, so it exists on 16:9 videos, like it does on all other of phones, it's not a big deal, I just zoom if I want. But when the content is 22:9.. which more and more is becoming (the standard).

Well in my opinion the true is if that if you do a research the iphone was never the best in the overall quality of photos as it is with the video quality but it was good enough and consistent. The Pixel is still good but it's not a wonder anymore and the Samsung is the best for media posting but Sony shines in the more pro aspect of the photography(in my eyes is just amazing compered to any smartphone camera experience ever). From a hardware opinion mine is that Sony nailed the most important aspects(camera, music-there is no competition and also a SD card).Sony lacks the features from the other brands so we will see how Sony will improve on that in the near future.

The time somebody has the Xperia 5 v in hands and reviews it ima nail down if ima get the 1 V or 5 V. If those cameras make it in the 5 V and they shave off the overkill 4k screen maybe im all sold and order 2 of em lol. And i don't care about "only 2 years updates" beacuse Sony still lets you unlock the bootloader ez mode also they sometimes brought out updates even after that period.
Also microjack for headphones AND mic, because why shoot 4k 120fps with onboard audio, which is probably still really good.
Upgrading from a Huawei P30 Pro (1st gen). I want an upgrade and camera wise there isn't enough difference to justify an upgrade to anything but the no-AI-shinnanigans from Sony.
Also the old chinesium is still bloody fast and working well! Well spend 650€ back then :O
    I'm kinda hyped :|

5 x is obviously Pixel Pro territory.

At least in stress-testing it is performing much better that its predecessor, even though I don't believe the IV was as bad as people make it. Sony tends to warn about overheating earlier, and then shuts off background processes in order to allocate more resources to the task at hand.
With video recording as an example, it will give a warning quite early that it has shut off some background processes to keep recording, it will then keep recording on the setting you've chosen without lowering framefrate or resolution like some competitors. The new 1 mk5 also shoots 4k60 videos with ~3 times higher bitrate than the competition, up from the mk4's almost 2times higher

SONY is just killing those photos from the wide and ultrawide cameras.
Pixel just nailed it in a telephoto portrait shoot.
S23 - nice try in low light but those aberrations, ew. So again, we have SONY. Others aren't perfect.
And for the 2nd low light shoot... you put two photos from the SONY in the video, one bad and another good. But yeah! S23 in this case shines at all glance.

They're doing their own thing and taking a different route. The rest may as well be clones of each other.

The Sony 1 sold terribly last year and is clearly a niche phone bought by hardcore Sony fans who know what they want. It could compete better with other flagships as a point-and-shoot, so it sells in low volume. The majority of the market care about the auto mode rather than about pro modes, as all phones can easily use pro apps that will make photos better. So, it is fair.

You need a real photographer to really take a vs on this one because the sony xperia's try to be more than a real camera not a machine take and computes images for you.
I see videos of real photographer's take shoots with that camera and really I won't think you can get similar shoots on another phone because of that, you won't have total control of the camera only the IA.
All versus cameras on phones are not only cameras, is the post process on how the phone software handle the photo.

To be fair, Sony JUST started doing AI/Computational Photography for phones while Samsung, Google, and Apple have been refining their algorithms for years. Perhaps if Sony keeps updating it, it will come out on top in that category as well. But that's a big if. Also, there's the comprehensive manual controls to make it closer to how you like it. All these phones/cameras seem to trade blows though so it's a good competition.
