Been using this phone for a few years and till today it's lag free and cosmetics still looks great!! 512gb built in plus 1TB external micro sd card, lots of space for those 4k videos.. still loving this phone. 👍
That's really good to hear! Mine is still really snappy and fast compared to a Xiaomi 13 Ultra I'm reviewing now with 16GBs of RAM! And it's still one of the best looking smartphones even in late 2024.
I loved my Pro-i too. Until it kept running hot when vlogging. Nothing fixed it. Got a Pixel 8 pro and can vlog in 4k, temp gets up to 92 F , in same place, same temp in room, Pro-i runs up to 120 F in same scenario.
You're going through the same thing I frequently point out with my Xperia PRO-I in numerous videos. The Note 20 Ultra and iPhone 13Pro Max I've been using can keep recording in hot temps while my PRO-I will shut down VideoPro or even the device itself after 1-5 minutes of recording. Its fine in temps below 30 degrees Celsius and will record for long periods. Anything above that and its frustrating to use. It's such a great compact camera smartphone but seems like it was rushed out to take advantage of the pandemic vlogging phase when most people were stuck indoors or had limited movement. The RX100 sensor was notorious for overheating in the early RX100 series digital cameras and Sony still crammed it into the thin Xperia PRO-I frame with a lackluster cooling system!
The Xperia Pro-i II is rumored to come out this spring. Hoping it will make full use of that 1" sensor. Currently, I'm using the Xperia I Mark II that was released three years ago and have zero issues with it.
Wow! It's good to hear your Xperia 1ii is still going strong! Are you still getting security updates for it? Last time I had one for my PRO-I was in November 2023. Hopefully the cooling system and zoom camera will be improved for the PRO-I ii. I remember several articles from Sony and other sources mentioning that the PRO-I's 1.0 type sensor was cropped because using all of it required a large lens housing that would have ruined the phone's aesthetics. We can see this in all of the Chinese smartphones using a 1.0 type sensor. Their lens housing usually takes up almost half the phone or extends the area housing the camera system outwards resulting in a non-flush back. I feel Sony would rather have a pleasing and subtle look to their smartphones even if it means sacrificing some performance. I know the focus is on sensor sizes now but the lens setup is equally as important for great pictures and videos. And to take full advantage of the RX100 sensor, the lens system needs to be bigger which means the Xperia PRO-I wider and bulkier to house it. It would also mean Sony would have to move away from the 21:9 aspect ratio for their displays. I think Sony was looking for a quick way to get a vlogging phone out during the pandemic and that's why they grabbed existing parts and slapped them together to come up with the Xperia PRO-I. It might explain why a version ii hasn't came out yet or perhaps theyre trying to version two right this time. But this all speculation and hopefully there will be a PRO-I ii released this year!
@@thefitlifechannel2021 handles heat really well, battery is amazing and video pro is like a dream. Focus peaking is amazing as well as S cinetone. I'm now living in Malta and had no heat issues at all. The only negative is the telephoto it needs more work as it is far too soft. The main sensor is a complete game changer and it frankly is better than the larger one In the Pro I, HDR is much better. I heard even basic auto mode is .icg better , but I don't use it for a point and shoot as I would have got a Samsung if I wanted that. Overall score , I would give it a 8/10 And it's really fun to play about with and I have not had that fun since the 1 iii. The Focus peaking is really handy and now we have a handy histogram on video and not just photo. Stabilisation at 4k is amazing when set to ultra high quality but that crops in a little and limits to 30fps. Also the eye level focusing only works up to 30fps too. Only thing that lets it down is the telephoto
@@theSFCchannel That's really good to it's been a positive experience for yourself! It does seem like the Xperia I V improved many things over the PRO-I and I IV. The telephoto camera has always been soft since the I iii and perhaps it needs a few more years of development to improve (perhaps it has something to do with space for it since the Xperia 5 V omitted it?) never understood why the PRO-I didn't have focus peaking and a histogram for the video side for being a camera aimed at pros. Even my Note 20 Ultra can do focus peaking!
@@thefitlifechannel2021 no i also almost waited a year. And there was a well known website that gave a huge discount on it. Otherwise i probably didnt buy it :( . The Xperia 5 is basically the smaller brother of the Xperia 1
@@namelesssnitchy You were right to wait a year so Sony could fix any issues I had with it. I noticed with my Xperia smartphones it takes about 6 months or longer for most of them to disappear. Are you planning on sticking with Sony once your Xperia 5ii stops working?
@@namelesssnitchy For sure stick with the Sony if you want a good camera. They have a ton more experience and support for their camera systems compared to Asus.
Excellent positive features! I'm glad you mentioned you have both the Xperia 1iii and I V. Since the PRO-I is similar to the 1iii, are there any significant differences between it and the I V? Is it worth upgrading or better to wait for the I VI?
Im on Xperia 1 IV, its an amazing device! I'll be upgrading this year. Hopefully the Pro II (or whatever it will be called) will be out when I upgrade. Great video, and that Sony ringtone at the start made me think my phone was ringing haha
Thank you! Which phone will you upgrade to if the Pro II isn't released this year? The I V looks really good as a complete smartphone and not just camera focused like the Pro-I. Fun fact! That ringtone was actually the first time I heard it on my Pro-I. I've always kept my phones on vibrate to minimize distractions. I figured since I won't hear it again I'll use it for this video!
Thank you! I really appreciate it! I'm working on an Xperia PRO-I vs Xioami 13 Ultra series of reviews. It will be a good look at how the Xperia PRO-I can still hang with newer camera dominant smartphones.
Thanks for the video posting , actually just managed to track one down . What a great Mobile phone !. What’s amazing its original cost in UK it was £1,599 to purchase , then dropped to £1,299 . For me I got a mint condition one for £550 . I am super happy 😃
You're very welcome! I'm glad you were able to find it at a really excellent price. Definitely worth it for that much! Let me know later your perspective on the Xperia PRO-I once you've had some time with it!
I agree! Mine's about to hit 17 months and the battery does drain a lot faster now, especially when using cell data. I've been keeping the battery charging maxed at 80% so hopefully it can make it until the middle of next year!
I'm happy to hear that! They are very unique devices for those who are passionate about Sony, entertainment, photography and videography. They also have a great look to them that's different from other smartphones!
@billyray7743 Yup, it makes a really good compact camera with a large display and touchscreen. Plus its easy to instantly share pics and vids online! It's really difficult to find that on most digital cameras!
@billyray7743 Nice! Where you able to get some good pics and vids? I recorded the fireworks show in my area with it. I was asleep and it woke me up and didn't have time to set up my mirrorless camera. Good thing I had my Xperia PRO-I handy and was able to get it into action quickly!
@billyray7743 Yes the RAW files are alot better than the JPEG ones. I also use mostly RAW unless I need to share a quick pic online. I feel some of the RAW files come close to or even better sometimes than the ones from my ZV1 and ZVE-10!
@billyray7743 I was thinking about getting that one or sticking with APSC and going with the FX30. If you decide to get the ZV-E1, let me know how you like it. I've always wanted to try out full frame and stick with something similar to the ZVE-10.
The Sony Xperia lines are best as camera smartphones first and one of the few to have expandable storage and a shutter button. I feel they are the only smartphone company that excels at making a camera centric device. But it's lackluster OS updates and inferior customer service in some countries are some of the things that hold it back from being competitive with the top 5 smartphone manufacturers.
@@salisalsero219Yup, I'm waiting for it myself! I've been seeing the rampant leaks this week on it. I really hope it's a significant upgrade compared to the V for me to switch to from my PRO-I.
I still love my Sony Pro-I, well as long as I don't use it for video 😕 Just amazes me that you can get natural bokeh from a smartphone without AI or other artificial enhancement tools. Actually this is why I love this phone is that I can take raw photos that are actually raw, not some softend, over saturated unnatural images that people want so they can post strait to SM. You forgot to mention the last of it's kind that still has a lanyard loop 🙂
Yup, can get some amazing background blur especially with the f2.0 aperture! I've even snapped great portraits and closeups with the 50mm in good lighting with excellent background blur. I was going to make another video with honorable mentions since this one was about the top 5 features I saw from the PRO-I. The lanyard loop would have been one of them. If there's enough interest, I can make it!
YES but the video is crap and that is unaceptable. And it is not good enough in photos, especially very bad at zoom. Hope they will release a second one much better than the old one with great video.
@@PeterEk31 Yup, sometimes I question the video quality too. Especially when the PRO-I becomes hot. I found it better for taking pics in good lighting and keeping the ISO below 1000. The DNG files also have some more room for editing compared to the ones I edited from an iPhone 13PRO and Samsung Note 20 Ultra. I've been waiting for version 2 for awhile now but seems like the rumors about it were more for hype and attention than proving to be accurate. Even the recent one about a compact version that came out soon after the announcement of the Xperia I VI was a bit suspicious. And that's what I noticed, most of the PRO-I ii rumors pop up around a new Xperia release but never pan out. But hopefully Sony has been listening for the past few years and see's there's a strong demand for a second version of the PRO-I. But its probably gonna be expensive. Maybe $2000US+, just look at how much the Xperia 1 VI is!!!!
I really love the idea of Xperia Pro-I. I'm on Xperia 1 mk ii, I really want to get the Pro-I as the upgrade or 5 mk iv but lots of people keep saying Snapdragon 888 and 8 Gen 1 will always has heating issues. I live in hot tropical and I do use my Xperia to play heavy gaming...
Youre in the same situation as myself. Hot, humid climate! The main reason to get the Xperia PRO-I is if you're a content creator or photography/videography enthusiast. It excels at that compared to the majority of smartphones. Xperia phones have been notorious for overheating even in their early days. The Xperia 1IV would be better for your gaming needs and you could look into throwing a cooling fan on the back to help with its cooling. I thought about doing this for my Xperia PRO-I when recording video but it takes away its portability factor. I owned most of the Z series and it still would overheat. Theyre just too thin which isn't great for dissipating heat. Just like my Razer Blade laptop, it gets extremely hot. Powerful, hot components in a thin body needs an excellent cooling solution. If you have the budget or are willing to save, the Xperia 1 V and up series make a better all around smartphone which have been reported widely to have a much improved cooling system.
Good day! If you're not having any major issues with your Xperia 5 iii, I wouldn't recommend upgrading it. It's still fine in 2024 and there aren't many choices for a compact device like itself. You could wait and see later this month if the VI series brings any significant upgrades. What are you using your Xperia 5iii mostly for and what inspired you to purchase it?
You brought up a good point! We really don't need to be upgrading our smartphones to the newest one frequently and most of the Xperia line are still great. I'm not sure about the original Xperia 1 in 2024 though. Probably better to go with at least the 1ii and up because of the significant improvements over the that one. When I went from the Xperia 1iii to the PRO-I, only significant difference I saw was the 24mm camera and the Video Pro app. Just minor changes, nothing "game changing".
My ONLY gripe with this phone is lack of wireless charging! If they added this it would make it a must buy for me... Coming from 1V, and 1III before that, I don't want to lose this feature.
That's a good question and something I've never heard an official explanation from Sony on why they didn't. It could be because of the RX100 sensor and processor but I'm not sure.
@@troy5568 I thought the back is made from Gorilla Glass 6? I have a nice crack in the lower left corner, and it appears to be glass. And I dropped it from about a half meter height onto concrete. If it was plastic or metal, it wouldn't have cracked. I have a feeling they didn't include it because of the larger camera module and processing unit and large motherboard compared to most smartphones (Sony also stacked the camera module on top of it) that had to fit inside a frame similar in size to the Xperia 1iii. Also, the heat produced by the 1.0 type camera setup and Snapdragon speeds up wear on other parts and battery, so throwing in wireless charging would have made it worse. I've made another video where I showed my headphone jack and USB-C port failed early, and I feel it's due to frequent exposure to high temps that did it.
Yes, it's still an awesome smartphone. Was Sony there before? I know they pulled out of a lot of countries a few years ago. And I believe Australia can get really high temps? Based on my experience using them in hot regions, they tend to have many issues. They do best in 25C and below temps. It could be why Sony doesn't have products there.
@thefitlifechannel2021 it was Sony Eriksson the last time I saw, I think 🤔 I can't really remember. No wonder why they pulled the Sony out from Australia.
@@riowinaryo18_86 Oh wow! I think that was awhile ago. If you look at the regions where Sony lacks official stores especially when it comes to mobile devices, they tend to be in hot regions. But difficult to prove without Sony's official reasons.
Surprisingly it didn't when I was recording this video. The temp was below 30 degrees C. It will only overheat when it's above that. This is a great device for cooler climates, not hot and humid ones. I'm just throwing this out there and don't know if this applies to the Xperia PRO-I. Sony tests their cameras performance at 25 degrees C according to side notes for some of their camera advertisements.
I don't recommend getting the Xperia 1iii in 2024. Xperia 1VI will be released soon so you might be able to find IV & V for lower prices. They have better cameras, battery capacity, speakers and more recent OS/security updates compared to 1iii. If you really want to get the Xperia 1iii, save some more money and get the Xperia PRO-I. It's very similar to the 1iii but with a significantly better main camera that can do 4K@120fps, better aesthetics, and brighter display (but not a significant improvement over the Xperia 1iii). I hope this helped answered your question!
Yes I agree those are excellent and rare features for a smartphone but this video was about the top 5 most standout features I saw from using the Xperia PRO-I for almost two years. I rarely removed my external SD card and the headphone jack stopped working last year (an issue I also have with my WH-1000XM3's and ZVE-10 digital camera). If you want to check out a video I made on the issues I experienced from it, I'll post the link in the description box.
@@not_amanullah I have a feeling the metal for the headphone jack input expanded from frequent overheating of the phone when using the main camera. It sits pretty close to the camera system. It expanded permanently and now the headphone jack doesn't sit inside firmly and moves around. I used to record with external microphones for my earlier You Tube videos but because of this issue, it didn't record the sound and I lost the footage. That's why you see me using the internal mics now when I record with the PRO-I. But I'm not a 100% sure but it's something I've also observed happened with my Sony headphones and digital camera. Unfortunately, I never fixed it because I ended up getting a digital camera to record my You Tube videos. Because it can get really hot and humid where I record videos, the PRO-I would only last 1-5 minutes and then overheat, shut down many features or exit out of Video PRO app. So it became frustrating to record with. Also, the Sony Service Center near me can be incompetent and I didn't want my phone out for repair for a long time (I submitted a Sony camera lens to them for repair and it took 7 months!!!). That's another reason I never bothered to have it repaired.
Yes, that's an issue for myself when its 30 degrees Celsius plus. I mentioned at the end of the video I'm supposed to make another video about the 5 reasons why its not a good idea to buy in 2024 (but been so busy with fitness related stuff recently!). I've brought up rapid overheating when using the cameras in high temps frequently in my other videos, so it would have been on that top 5 list. But under 30 degrees Celsius, no issues with the camera system.
You're welcome! Not a problem. If outdoors, in the sun & 30C +, within 1-2 minutes. If inside recording video with a lot of lights, usually within 5 minutes. It does best when there's a breeze to cool it down or in the shade where it can go up to 10 minutes before overheating warnings and other issues. The RX100 derived sensor for the 24mm lens is notorious for running hot in those camera bodies (my ZV1 gets hot really fast recording 4k outdoors in the sun or indoors with lights). Stick it inside a thin, metal body with the Snapdragon 888 and subpar cooling setup for them, will overheat quickly in hotter temps. I have no issues recording in 27C and below temps outdoors, but best to keep it under shady or breezy areas. You could strap a gaming fan to it as well but may be a bit bulky for recording videos and taking pics handheld.
@@thefitlifechannel2021 thanks for sharing, I no game anymore, just normal daily using with work, social apps and sometime take photo. I think I will buy it. Thanks for your review.
@@VanNguyen-cr6ns It was my pleasure! You will be ok if you stick to those. It's when you decide to vlog or do longer duration videos you could run into issues. Overall its a really nice camera/smartphone and in my opinion the only one out there with a 1.0 type sensor that isn't distasteful and gaudy!
Amazon or the official Sony website are places I recommend to buy the Xperia PRO-I. It's on sale now for $998 US. Hopefully this helped answer your question!
camera, display etc etc hardware is okay. but what about the software part, does it have latest android 14? It would get it? security patches are regularly dropped for this device? I'm asking because I'm considering switch to sony from my current phone.
Thank you for bringing this up! I was planning on doing a top 5 reasons not to buy this phone but got sick with COVID. I'm also waiting a little longer to see if I will still get security updates this month and longer. There are some negative things about this device such as short OS updates, the speakers, fingerprint sensor, and connections. The display is fine. I haven't had any issues with it unlike my Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra. However, the 21:9 aspect ratio can be a bit slim and difficult to type for someone like myself with large hands. Don't worry about the processors. Even the Snapdragon 865 on my Note 20 Ultra is still fast and smooth. If your priorities are excellent OS and security updates, display, hardware, I recommend going with Samsung or Apple. There are better smartphones out there from Chinese companies but the issue is their OS and security update support. But if you want a camera centric smartphone and files with room you can work with in post editing, for sure Sony Xperia smartphones. Unfortunately we can't have everything, that's why at one time I used both a Note 10 Plus and Xperia 1!! Once I got deeper into photography and videography, I decided to stick with Xperia smartphones. I suggest making a list of the features that are the most important to you and will use on a daily basis. Then find a device that meets your requirements. I hope this helpful for you!
Sony is the worst in business in terms of OS and security updates regardless of the price of the phone. Xperia Pro-I won't get Android 14 and security updates will be finished this year. Sad reality of having a Sony smartphone. For comparison I have the same year Oppo Find phone and it's updated to Android 14.
@@victorrumyantsev3718 Yes even my Samsung Note 20 Ultra is receiving security updates and was updated to Android 13. Sony Xperia flagship phones are a niche device and in the past few years aimed at content creators. For myself it does very well at it compared to my past Samsung phones and the iPhone 13PRO Max I've been using. If someone wants a well balanced smartphone such as from other companies, the Xperia line isn't for them. In 2024, it's best to look at the PRO-I as a compact camera but better than most traditional ones.
You can zoom through various focal lengths from 24-72mm in the Videography PRO app. Sony designed it mimic the ones found in it's camcorders. It's not like a traditional smartphone camera app where you can switch between the native focal lengths. However in Photography PRO using "BASIC" mode, you can record video and change between the native 16, 24, and 50mm focal lengths (displayed as .7, 1.0 & 2.1x). Yes from my personal experience from the past two years of owning it, it will overheat in 30C+ temps and in sunlight when recording videos and taking photos to the point of limiting features or shutting down the Photo/Video PRO app. Others have pointed this out as well in similar situations. However below 29C or staying out of direct sunlight, no issues of overheating for myself. I've never had it overheat in other usages such as gaming, watching vids, etc.
@@Gaming60fps It could be because of the humidity too in some hot climates. How are the humidity levels there? All of my Sony cameras such as my ZV1 and ZVE-10 will get hot or overheat after recording video for a while in hot temps or in sunlight as well. Even with past Sony Xperia 1 series smartphones this has been an issue. Sony likes to cram heat producing components into tight and/or thin bodies. I have a feeling that's why wireless charging wasn't included with the Xperia PRO-I. The 1.0 type sensor and Snapdragon 888 were already putting immense heat stress onto the rest of the smartphone. Adding wireless charging would have strained the other components more resulting in a shorter lifespan. Sony also minimizes heat damage by shutting down the Photo or Video Pro app rapidly if idle. My Xiaomi 13 Ultra does something similar but not as fast as the PRO-I. I'm speculating it may have something to do with the 1.0 type sensors they use and how hot they can get quickly. Video PRO will shut down quickly in hot temps if recording after a short period, but it can be extended using the Wireless Commander Shooting Grip and a unique endurance mode. Perhaps its lowering frame rates and other features to push recording times longer. This is something the Xiaomi 13 Ultra does as well.
Just bought a sony xperia 5 IV for 128€, shattered glass back, easy fix My daily driver is the 5 II, with an android 14 custom rom to be up to date. Love these little sonys Actually I'd think that the 888 (or even 8gen1 on future sony phones) woul be an issue, these processors are made by Samsung instead of TSMC, and they overheat like crazy. I'm pretty sure my Xperia 5 II will beat the 5 IV in terms of real world performance when I'll compare them... You can actually get them to overheat while filming, so it's not just an issue when playing games or something Still, probably a phone worth getting if you find a good price, I'd personnaly go for the 1 V if I had that kind of cash
Wow! You made out well with the Xperia 5 IV! How are you liking Android 14? Any major updates over 13? Yup, the Snapdragon 888 can run hot sometimes but have to really push it. Also being crammed into a slim body like the PRO-I with the RX100 series sensor and processor can make things a bit toasty sometimes. But I've had few issues with the 888, it still runs as great as the day I received the PRO-I. Sony did an excellent job tuning it which is something a lot of reviews fail to point out. They focus too much on the specs instead of actual daily use. I'm confident I could go a few more years and it will still perform with few hiccups.
@@thefitlifechannel2021 Oh wow, so the pro-I seems to be a heat management champ, unlike the model i've bought broken 😂 So it's a very good buy for this kind of camera performance Android 14 is just 13 with a couple tweaks, though since i'm using a custom rom on my 5 II there are extra features (Sony never got past android 12 officially on that model)
Actually the most common complaint of the PRO-I for myself is that it overheats fast when using the cameras in 30+C weather. I'm lucky to get 30-120 seconds of video before overheating warnings or the video app shuts down. Same with photos. The compact camera sensor in that slim body runs really hot. I have the same sensor in my Sony ZV1 compact camera and it becomes really hot recording in 4k but won't shut down like the PRO-I after 1-2 minutes. There's more space in the camera body for heat to dissipate so it can run longer hot. I had a feeling Android 14 didn't offer much. I tend to recommend to those looking to upgrade their phone because of the newer OS not to make it a priority. It's been minor upgrades year after year and nothing that significantly improves the smartphone experience.
I had one last year, I ended up selling it because it overheated without doing demanding things on it. It happened to many, at that time July 2023, there was no patch that fixed it, do you know if the problem persists?
My Xperia PRO-I only overheats when recording videos and pictures in 30 degrees C + temps with the Video and Photo Pro app. Also in sunlight. It still persists to this day. For regular use such as browsing the web, watching movies and messaging, doesn't become really hot. However, it will become a bit hot when charging but that's normal for most smartphones. Perhaps there was an issue with yours? Did you have a chance to take it to a Sony service center to get checked out?
@@thefitlifechannel2021 I couldn't find support from Sony Mexico since I bought it imported from Japan, I just decided to sell it, but honestly I would like to get it again just knowing that it won't get hot just by looking at it haha, thanks for the response! :D
@@Ignis111 You're welcome! Yes that's the issue with PRO-I's bought from Japan and Hong Kong. Have to send it to a service center there. That can become very expensive and Sony's customer service can be a bit difficult to deal with depending on the service center. I can confidently say I don't have issues with overheating with regular use, even in my hot, humid climate. Only when recording video and pics in 30 degrees C + temps. Hopefully other PRO-I owners can share their experience with theirs to help you decide confidently to buy it again. What is the average temp where you live?

I've been waiting myself as well and the reason why I still haven't replaced mine despite the fingerprint sensor failing a long time ago and some other issues. There hasn't been an credible rumors on it this year so its a possibility it may not happen. We should know something for sure by the middle of this year!
The last Android update was 13 and it won't be getting anymore. This common with Sony phones. But for some people like myself, OS updates aren't that important. They seem like incremental updates for the past several years. I rather have ongoing updates to the camera system and other hardware. Hopefully in March I can get to the "Top 5 Reasons Not To Get The Xperia PRO-I In 2024". One of them will be the issue with updates.
I don't trust rumors about Sony smartphones around this time of the year. There was plenty about the Xperia PRO II and all of them turned out to be incorrect. I haven't heard anything reliable about the Xperia 1VI. And by the time that one is released, yes it's better to go with that one over the PRO-I. The Xperia PRO-I by then would be best used as a compact camera with a large display, touch screen and instant upload to social media which many traditional digital cameras still lack now. Also it can record 4k@120fps in HDR from the main camera which only a few digital cameras can do.

@@travelwithsameer316 Next week I should have one up! I caught COVID last week so couldn't finish the one I'm doing a comparison against the iPhone 13PRO MAX in time before the end of the year.
The Xperia IV isn't a significant upgrade compared to the PRO-I. If you're able to get the V or VI, those are more of a worthy upgrade. What are some of the main features you're looking for?
I recommend using the Xperia PRO-I as a compact camera along with other Sony cameras if you own them. It's menu system is similar as well as pics and vids. It's waterproof and great for taking pics and quick videos where carrying a mirrorless camera and lens might be a burden. And if you're into editing photos and videos, it's display is very accurate compared to other brands. I use it to check photos and 4k videos I make for UA-cam. Also, you're right about the updates, my Samsung Note 20 Ultra still receives monthly security updates unlike the Xperia PRO-I. But it's still supported in Google Play for apps so as long as you're not downloading suspicious files or visiting questionable sites, there shouldn't be any issues. I'm working on a comparison between the Xperia PRO-I and Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The 888 can still hold its own against the newer chipsets. The Xperia PRO-I feels more responsive and loads up faster at startup and for apps. A large part of this could be the smaller OS size and Sony's long term experience compared to Xioami. I didn't find any significant difference between the two in other areas. I was expecting to be blown away by all the marketing hype and reviews for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. How each company builds a camera first smartphone is completely different too which the Xperia PRO-I and 13 Ultra are mainly marketed as. I can say Sony comes closest to mimicking a digital camera. Sony made this camera phone for Sony enthusiasts who use their digital camera models and that's probably the main reason I would buy it. Xiaomi takes alot of cues from the iPhone for its camera system and feels more like a smartphone camera setup.
I agree. I've always thought they should do an "Ultra" version that was wider and taller. They did it before in 2013 with the Xperia Z Ultra. I remembered that I could write on the display with a pencil! The current Xperia lineup is too slim for someone like me with large hands. I've dropped them more times than even the bigger Samsung Note series!
Several others have mentioned that as well. Hehe! I didn't think it would sound clear and loud because I recorded it with the microphones from my wireless mic. It's only good for vocals.
I've been a Sony fan since the Walkman with cassette tapes and than transition to CD players! Their products have a cool, balanced aesthetic to them and they like to try new things few other companies would dare. Do you remember their DSC QX-10 and 100 attachable camera lens? Basically took the lens and sensor from some of their digital cameras and adapted it so they could be attached to your smartphone. They remind me of what Sony did with the Xperia PRO-I. They may not have had mainstream success but for sure an evolution of them will appear in a future product.
The Sony microphone you are using ?. Would it have a ref number or perhaps a name . Just I am after on for my set up , just got myself a Xperia Pro I , with the grip ams magnetic attached screen !. Any advice would be helpful . Regards Fabian
Hi Fabian! Congrats on your excellent purchase! I hope you're enjoying it! Are you talking about the Sony stereo lapel microphone I'm using on my shirt for this video? I'm sorry for the late response. I didn't forget about! I had a severe case of food poisoning for a week. Hehe! The lapel microphone I'm using is part of the Sony ECM-W2 BT Wireless Microphone system. The lapel microphone itself is ECM-LV1. I did try using it only on my Sony Xperia PRO-I and it didn't work. The ECM-W2 BT isn't compatible with the PRO-I. I did use a Rode SmartLav+ before and it worked really well for my vlogs. The issue it that the cable is really short so it's only good for handheld vlogs. You would need to get an extension if you want to vlog from a desk or somewhere similar. Hopefully this helped answered your question. If not, let me know please!
Four good reasons for not buying this phone from my experience:severe overheating, no OS updates anymore (Android 13 was the last update, Sony abandoned this phone already), no zoom lens, no Wireless charging
Those are great reasons and I was supposed to make a video on the top 5 reasons not to get the Xperia PRO-I in 2024. I was waiting for my main lens to come back from Sony and finally received it last month. But the two that will make my top 5 list is the overheating when using the camera system and no security updates after two years. In 2024, it's best to view this device as a compact camera with a large, touch display and ability to upload pics and vids quickly online. Most digital cameras still struggle with a small display and a fast, easy way to upload content online. It also makes an excellent lightweight vlogging camera.
@@thefitlifechannel2021Why do you worry too much about security updates? Just an opinion but... Google Play services continue dishing out security updates way after original phone maker left the product. As long as you practice proper opsec, you're better off than users with latest update who easily fall for scammers, click phising links or visit shady sites. Or just copule it with a cheap Samsung dince they boast 7 year updates now. 😅 At any rate, while LG still pushed A13 on their phones after they shut down, I do not appreciate the dumbed stuff like not being able to mess with data/obb folders and Telegram not using the microSD card anymore even if you set it to do so.
@@jiffonbuffo You bring up a valid point and I'm still using my PRO-I as my main phone even after the security updates have stopped. But my point is that even my Samsung Note 20 Ultra is still receiving security updates from Samsung. For Sony to charge this much for a smartphone and then to cut off support after two years is a bit hard for many people to swallow. Yes, Googles security updates are probably fine for most people. I should make that video soon so I can expand why and it comes down to Sony's horrible software support and customer service compared to it's competitors. I agree with your suggestion to pair a Samsung phone with it and that's what Ive been doing with my Note 20 Ultra!
Mine has made it to 25 months and the battery life is still strong. However, I chose the option to only charge it to 80% under it's battery care option. I'm not sure how it would be if it was frequently charged to 100%.
@@duyle-bh7tc You're welcome! Yup, battery life is a bit short especially when using the main camera. But it's a similar situation as my ZV1. Its battery life is short too, especially when recording in 4k. Sony should have thrown in at least a 5000mah battery in the PRO-I. How are you liking your Xperia PRO-I?
@@thefitlifechannel2021 it's too hot man 😂😂😂 and i just use basic things like UA-cam and message but it's really really hot ! you have any tips for better battery and temperature ?
@@duyle-bh7tc Yup! Same as myself! Mostly use for You Tube, messaging and for photography and videography. I try to stay out of direct sunlight and use it in shaded areas when recording videos/taking pics if possible. You could attach a gaming type fan to the back to help keep it cool but the downside is that it might be heavier and bulkier. I don't know if you know about this but when I pair the Xperia PRO-I to the Sony shooting grip with wireless remote commander, I can record videos for a lot longer than on its own, even when its hot. But its pricey for a shooting grip and only worth it if you record videos frequently. You could also use the PRO-I in airplane mode when recording videos and taking pics and this helps prolong recording times. But most important is don't use it in temps above 30 degrees Celsius or it will overheat quickly. This is something that is common with my past Sony phones and digital cameras. Actually Sony recommends an optimal operating temp of 25C and below for their smartphones and most digital cameras! I found out the biggest battery drain is having cellular data on. I try to stick with Wifi as much as possible but I know it may not be an option for you. Keep location, Bluetooth, and NFC off. And try to keep your phone cool and away from heat sources. This is a major battery drainage source! Is your PRO-I running really hot even when watching You Tube and messaging?
please make 1 vdeo that u say something wrong, snapdragon 888 literally i failure bro , also 8 gen 1, samsung who make that 2 chipset, its easy to overheat,in current conten u say 888 was good, but actually its not ,ik using that chipset right now, always hot n drop performance
Hello! I've never had any major issues with the Snapdragon 888 for me to mention it any of my videos on the Xperia PRO-I. The biggest complaint I've had with this phone has been the overheating of the cameras in 30C+ temps and only being able to use them for short periods. I'm not 100% sure if that's due to the 888, the 1.0 type sensor (my ZV1 also overheats and uses the same sensor), the ISP Sony is using to process pics and vids, the thin frame, or inadequate cooling system for this setup. However, I mainly use the Xperia PRO-I for photo/videography, watching vids on UA-cam or Netflix, messaging and browsing the internet. I rarely used it for gaming or anything else that could stress the CPU intensively to cause it to overheat or reduce performance. I have the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and it feels a lot slower loading from startup, opening apps, processing photos from editing, (subjectively) despite having the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 and 16GBs of RAM compared to the Xperia PRO-I's Snapdragon 888 and 12GBs. The Xperia PRO-I feels snappier and quicker to operate despite its age. I have a feeling it's because Xiaomi's OS for the 13 Ultra is not optimized as well as Sony's for the PRO-I. I will make a future video comparing them both. I did make another video on reasons why the Xperia PRO-I may not be a good idea to keep or buy in 2024. I try to give a fair perspective on everything I review. ua-cam.com/video/Zwuzw-WT4Wc/v-deo.html
Yup, for the main 24mm camera it is! But honestly I didn't notice a significant improvement in my photos and videos compared to other smartphone cameras to make it to the top 5. However, I was going to do an honorable mention list towards the end of the video and it was one of them. But the list extended this video over 15mins and I had to cut it. I should do a separate video for it!
How I wish they would break from their norm! If Sony is willing to sacrifice its design philosophy of clean and flowing aesthetics, a larger lens system resulting in a bigger camera housing will significantly improve photo and video quality. The lens system is equally as important as sensor and processor size for great pics and vids. Perhaps continue the PRO-I series with a larger lens system while keeping its current design philosophy with the Xperia 1 series. They shifted course with the Xperia 1 series to entice the mainstream, they can stay unique and be bolder with the PRO-I series.
@@sidersproductions941 I think Sony doesn't have the budget or is unwilling to spend more money for their smartphone lineup to do anything bold. Also, Japanese companies tend to be more conservative and stick with the same things for a long time before making any significant changes.
@thefitlifechannel2021 unfortunately true. Finally giving up hope in that regard. I'll definitely buy another Sony camera though. Likely Sony a7 IV and go with Samsung for phone.
@@sidersproductions941 I think that's a great idea, especially if you're passionate about photography and or videography. Definitely can get more out of a Sony A7IV for many years, especially if paired with a good 24-70mm and up lens. That what I did for several years. I used a Sony digital camera for my photos and vids and a Samsung Note series for smartphone use.
I've been using smartphones since the Nokia N900 and the most significant thing that has stood out to me throughout, I've never had one that could completely satisfy everything I needed. That's why at one point I had an Xperia 1 and Samsung Note phone. The Sony does better as a camera centric device, the Samsung as a smartphone first. I'm glad the Xperia I VI went with that screen size and resolution, my Xperia PRO-I rarely uses it's "4K" mode except when I have it connected as an external mother to a camera or reviewing 4k content. Plus my big fingers and hands had issues typing frequently on that slim display!
Resolution might've been downgraded, but the benefits of FAR superior battery life, higher brightness, and having LTPO technology for variable refresh rate, IMO, FAR outweighs the lone disadvantage of lower resolution, which isn't even a big deal to me at all, especially with the benefits that we'd get in return. I hope that Sony will keep 4K exclusive to their Pro lineup though. At the very least, it still does not have a stupid screen cutout.
@@drakegao1 It turns on if you're viewing 4k content such as a video recorded from Video/Cinema PRO in preview mode or in Google Photos. It also turns on if viewing 4k content on UA-cam, Netflix, and other apps that support it. Also when using it as an external monitor for a Sony digital camera that support it through the External Monitor app (but not for streaming). I hope this helped!
@@troy5568 Yes, I agree. Keep the 4k option for PRO versions. Sony can still retain the PRO line with better cameras and unique features for serious creators and have the Xperia line tailored for mainstream demands. Make the Xperia more smartphone focused and keep the PRO camera/video centric.
Thank you for bringing that up! You could try turning off any sound enhancements you might have such as Dolby Atmos or something similar. I edit the audio in traditional stereo. I'll make sure the music is lower in the next video.
The Xperia PRO-I is best for those who want to transition into traditional digital cameras or want a smartphone that comes close to them. I feel Samsung does better as a daily smartphone but when it comes to mimicking a digital camera, the Sony Xperia line does it the best. When I went back to using digital cameras, the Xperia series helped me ease into them without being overwhelmed by the numerous buttons and menu settings. But for watching content, messaging, browsing the internet & social media, etc., Samsung is far superior.
Right now it looks like there will not be. I have a feeling the Xperia PRO-I was an experiment by Sony to test out 1.0 type sensors in a smartphone body. They seem to have better results and success with the IMX989 sensor found in most 1.0 type sensor phones currently. Also their new sensor in the Xperia 1V appears to be produce similar and sometimes better results than the Xperia PRO-I. I was holding out for an PRO-I ii and that they would stick with the RX100 sensor but use all of it. But that would require a larger lens and they still need to add ultra wide and zoom lenses resulting in a very large camera housing which goes against Sony's design principles for smartphones. If youre thinking of a successor to the Xperia PRO-I, I think the Xperia 1V is an excellent replacement, it seems to have fixed many of the issues it had. I've recently seen some news an Xperia PRO-II will be released next year with a multiple aperture adjustment ring around the camera housing. However, I've been seeing rumors since 2022 an Xperia PRO-II was supposed to be released with two 1.0 type sensors but here we are close to 2024 and nothing so far. So I don't know if these are concepts that didn't pan out or someone just trying to get views to their social media account...
Even after two years, I am still very satisfied with the Pro i The camera is simply great, the performance is great as on the first day. Unfortunately the battery performance is poor. This is where the 1V shows its strengths. But the design of the Pro i is so cool. The most beautiful smartphone of all time.
@@sosiehtesaus2652 I agree with you on the battery performance as well. I'm charging mine at least twice daily now! And for sure the Xperia PRO-I is one of the best looking smartphones even now. I want to try another 1.0 type sensor smartphone but they all look horrendous and it's one of the main reasons Ill stick with the Xperia PRO-I into 2024.
@@bazvisI wouldn't believe the hype a smartphone can take pics and vids like DSLRs. It's very generalized and there are so many different types. What I've noticed comparing my Sony Xperia's, Samsung Notes and iPhone 13 Pro Max to my Sony ZV1 and ZVE-10 is that sometimes they will produce similar quality, but it's not consistent. Also, once you view them on a larger display such as on computers and TV's, you can really see they have a long way to go to produce "DSLR" content consistently. The manufacturers and some reviewers that claim this aren't lying, but they're not giving us the whole picture. At least tell us which DSLR's to compare them too!!! (Sony did with the Xperia 1 V). I recommend the Xperia 1 V for the majority of people. It has a better cooling system, brighter display (essential if you will use it in sunlight), better speaker system and a larger battery. Sony also claims it takes pics similar to its full frame cameras (but I would caution against believing that until you've tried it yourself!). From the reviews I've seen for the 1 V, I don't see a significant difference in picture and video quality compared to the PRO-I except at night where the 1V's improved night mode is better. The Xperia PRO-I still performs great for 2024 and keeps up with most flagship smartphones from the past several years for daily usage. It also has a mechanical dual aperture main camera which helps to control excess light since it can close down to f4.0. You can also adjust the background blur. I recommend it if you're a fan of Sony's digital cameras and want a smartphone version of their RX100 series (you also get a larger display for the cam/vid apps which is very helpful!). Also buy it if you want one of the best looking devices around. It's been holding steady at a price of $999 so it's more affordable than the Xperia 1 V. However, I've seen the global version 1 V for the same price for a few months now on Amazon. Hopefully someone can lend me a Sony Xperia 1 V so I can do a comparison for both of them to really see which one does pics and vids better!
@@thefitlifechannel2021 facts!!
Merhaba. Ben 1 ii almak istiyorum. Siz bu telefonda şuan batarya problemi yaşıyor musunuz? Bir de ekran parlaklığının düşük olması sizi etkiliyor mu?

Are you going to go with the Sony Xperia PRO-I? Or perhaps the new Xperia 1 VI?
Hell I'm buying a 1 V in 2024 because the newest flagships still can't keep up with Sony lol
Wait for the vi
Hi, I'm still rocking my Xperia 5 iii. Can you please make a case for an upgrade to the mark iv or v if necessary.
Any Sony will be great in 2024
You brought up a good point!
Great video:) and really funny!

The back is not made of glass, which is what's needed to enable wireless charging in the first place.
The phone still looks sexy inside and outside. ❤❤
I wish they had Sony here in my region [Australia].
But difficult to prove without Sony's official reasons.
i get my xperias from bestmobilephone au
does it overheat while doing this?
Surprisingly it didn't when I was recording this video. The temp was below 30 degrees C. It will only overheat when it's above that. This is a great device for cooler climates, not hot and humid ones. I'm just throwing this out there and don't know if this applies to the Xperia PRO-I. Sony tests their cameras performance at 25 degrees C according to side notes for some of their camera advertisements.
Can buy Sony experia 1 mark 3 in 2024 please tell me .. and what is the best price
I hope this helped answered your question!
headphone jack and sd card slot 🖤🤍
Yes I agree those are excellent and rare features for a smartphone but this video was about the top 5 most standout features I saw from using the Xperia PRO-I for almost two years. I rarely removed my external SD card and the headphone jack stopped working last year (an issue I also have with my WH-1000XM3's and ZVE-10 digital camera). If you want to check out a video I made on the issues I experienced from it, I'll post the link in the description box.
@@thefitlifechannel2021 why headphone jack stopped working and did you fix that
@@not_amanullah I have a feeling the metal for the headphone jack input expanded from frequent overheating of the phone when using the main camera.
How about temp when using camera?
Yes, that's an issue for myself when its 30 degrees Celsius plus. I mentioned at the end of the video I'm supposed to make another video about the 5 reasons why its not a good idea to buy in 2024 (but been so busy with fitness related stuff recently!). I've brought up rapid overheating when using the cameras in high temps frequently in my other videos, so it would have been on that top 5 list. But under 30 degrees Celsius, no issues with the camera system.
@@thefitlifechannel2021 thanks so much, can you let me know how many minutes you can use camera before get heating warning?
How should someone buy experia mobile online honest website? Please
In 2024, it's best to look at the PRO-I as a compact camera but better than most traditional ones.
can you shift lenses while recording videos? and does it overheat like Xperia 1 iv?
@thefitlifechannel2021 i don't know why sony phone gets overheat because i used samsung in dubai where temperature is 40+ still never overheat
Just heard the rumors Sony Xperia Pro ii will launch by December 2024 or early 2025...hmm
Is it similar to the ones floating around since 2022 or something new?
Just bought a sony xperia 5 IV for 128€, shattered glass back, easy fix
My daily driver is the 5 II, with an android 14 custom rom to be up to date. Love these little sonys
Actually I'd think that the 888 (or even 8gen1 on future sony phones) woul be an issue, these processors are made by Samsung instead of TSMC, and they overheat like crazy. I'm pretty sure my Xperia 5 II will beat the 5 IV in terms of real world performance when I'll compare them... You can actually get them to overheat while filming, so it's not just an issue when playing games or something
Still, probably a phone worth getting if you find a good price, I'd personnaly go for the 1 V if I had that kind of cash
@@thefitlifechannel2021 Oh wow, so the pro-I seems to be a heat management champ, unlike the model i've bought broken 😂 So it's a very good buy for this kind of camera performance
Android 14 is just 13 with a couple tweaks, though since i'm using a custom rom on my 5 II there are extra features (Sony never got past android 12 officially on that model)

@@thefitlifechannel2021 Thank you, your response has been very helpful, I have been encouraged to buy another one and use it as a second device only. I think it's worth it despite its cons.

I've been waiting myself as well and the reason why I still haven't replaced mine despite the fingerprint sensor failing a long time ago and some other issues. There hasn't been an credible rumors on it this year so its a possibility it may not happen. We should know something for sure by the middle of this year!
what about Android updates?
The last Android update was 13 and it won't be getting anymore. This common with Sony phones. But for some people like myself, OS updates aren't that important. They seem like incremental updates for the past several years. I rather have ongoing updates to the camera system and other hardware. Hopefully in March I can get to the "Top 5 Reasons Not To Get The Xperia PRO-I In 2024". One of them will be the issue with updates.

Do you have any update rumor about Xperia 1 VI? I think better wait for that than buying Xperia Pro I
I don't trust rumors about Sony smartphones around this time of the year.
1vi is definitely worth waiting, it will improve a lot 😊

Is it better than 1 IV to buy in 24
The Xperia IV isn't a significant upgrade compared to the PRO-I. If you're able to get the V or VI, those are more of a worthy upgrade. What are some of the main features you're looking for?
I almost bought a used unit of it but the downside:
Android update
SD888
I think Sony Xperia phones would be more popular if they weren't so skinny
Bruhhh 0:43 I thought i got a call
Several others have mentioned that as well. Hehe! I didn't think it would sound clear and loud because I recorded it with the microphones from my wireless mic. It's only good for vocals.
Telefonun arkasındaki parlak ve belirgin SONY yazısı benim için satın almak için yeterli bir sebep.
Fakat ülkemde satılmıyor 🇹🇷
Are you able to import it into your country? I believe that's what many Xperia PRO-I owners did, especially when it was first released.
Sony master of electronics

@@thefitlifechannel2021 I agree with that but then the price is not right. Even now, even for a used phone.
@@victorrumyantsev3718 How much is it used in your area?
@@thefitlifechannel2021Why do you worry too much about security updates? Just an opinion but... Google Play services continue dishing out security updates way after original phone maker left the product.
As long as you practice proper opsec, you're better off than users with latest update who easily fall for scammers, click phising links or visit shady sites. Or just copule it with a cheap Samsung dince they boast 7 year updates now. 😅
At any rate, while LG still pushed A13 on their phones after they shut down, I do not appreciate the dumbed stuff like not being able to mess with data/obb folders and Telegram not using the microSD card anymore even if you set it to do so.
I agree with your suggestion to pair a Samsung phone with it and that's what Ive been doing with my Note 20 Ultra!
how about the battery life ? it's still good after 3 4 years ?

Adding more, camera lenses is Glass 🍷 not plastic
Yup, for the main 24mm camera it is! But honestly I didn't notice a significant improvement in my photos and videos compared to other smartphone cameras to make it to the top 5. However, I was going to do an honorable mention list towards the end of the video and it was one of them. But the list extended this video over 15mins and I had to cut it. I should do a separate video for it!
Give us the big back camera hump Sony!😂😂
How I wish they would break from their norm! If Sony is willing to sacrifice its design philosophy of clean and flowing aesthetics, a larger lens system resulting in a bigger camera housing will significantly improve photo and video quality. The lens system is equally as important as sensor and processor size for great pics and vids. Perhaps continue the PRO-I series with a larger lens system while keeping its current design philosophy with the Xperia 1 series. They shifted course with the Xperia 1 series to entice the mainstream, they can stay unique and be bolder with the PRO-I series.
@thefitlifechannel2021 yes I agree too. Sony needs to give just a little and stop simply sticking with the same philosophy year after year.
Haters hate. Now real xperia users are complaining about the downgraded screen resolution on the 1mk VI.
@@thefitlifechannel2021 I am using the pro I too. How do we know if the 4k mode is on?

Thank you!
I would be happy to use this cellphone if it could be rooted.
I thought all Sony phones could be rooted?
@thefitlifechannel2021 yes true they can be rooted o.p don't know his stuff!
music is too loud 😢
Thank you for bringing that up! You could try turning off any sound enhancements you might have such as Dolby Atmos or something similar. I edit the audio in traditional stereo. I'll make sure the music is lower in the next video.
The price is too high I'll stick with Samsung Sony is good with play station
The Xperia PRO-I is best for those who want to transition into traditional digital cameras or want a smartphone that comes close to them. I feel Samsung does better as a daily smartphone but when it comes to mimicking a digital camera, the Sony Xperia line does it the best. When I went back to using digital cameras, the Xperia series helped me ease into them without being overwhelmed by the numerous buttons and menu settings. But for watching content, messaging, browsing the internet & social media, etc., Samsung is far superior.
1800 shitty overheating device.
Yes, it's Achille's heel!
Is there will be no Sony Xperia PRO II?
@@thefitlifechannel2021 then what do you reccomend for photo like dslr camera and battery life? Pro 1 or xperia 1 V? Is pro I not so aged for 2024?
