    So, Xperias are doing less compression to give higher quality (and this is why they heat up), which probably no other phone does. This is why Xperias are best for videos. This kind of technical information is what no other reviewers do. This is very interesting information.

      Dearest,
      You are the top Xperia tester in regards of proving the paper numbers on real life. But please help my testing by an answer for Xperia 1mk4 and mk5 in comparison for you having both. For this 64.1.A.0.891/913 mk4's latest firmware upgrade.
      1. The slow shutter speed in lowlight 1s manual at 64-200 ISO manual, in the pictures appeare burned/coloured chaotic pixels that ruins the image overall (telephoto is the worst!).This is still happening for you?
      2. The low light videos are very dark and its flash is better/stronger on photo than as video torch. Is this issue for your devices mk4 and mk5? Can you recoomend a specific setting/app to have more light (HDR is not helping)?
      3. Front cam missing manual and bokeh big time for its wanna-be and how would you get a front selfie bokeh in the mk4 and mk5 compared to you?
      4. Even Xperia now have amazing screen brightness after getting warmer the brighness dims and then the OLED have ghosting on mk4 this is on mk5 also?
      So can you please make a video with these comparisons tests for the latest firmware upgrades and give some good advices? More even, to send these issues to the software engineers, for that Xperia 1 mk4 to have a chance to its wanna-be? Some people as I know in my country are very dissapointed by this fact and Sont don't even answer to their e-mails with these issues still unsolved.
      Thank you so much for helping!
      PS: Crapsung is doing crap for Xperia also, Sony should have known that before and test its wanna-be's!

The most interesting thing about this video is the difference between the 13 ulta and the vivo since both records at the same bit rate. Thank you so much for this review. This is so eye-opening because most of the tech reviewers were shitting hard on Sony. Seeing how extremely well the Sony 1V performed & even how well the 1 IV did in comparison to what other UA-cam reviewers said about it, I'm extremely impressed by Sony. I'm now even more convinced to buy the Sony Xperia 5V because it has the main lens of the 1V. I don't care so much about the zoom lens since it's not its best quality of lens anyways & the screen is 1080p instead of the 4K the 1V has, which consumes more battery & will make the phone hotter. I hope in the future Sony makes a 5VI or 5VII with LTPO, 256GB, Telephoto, maybe a 2K screen even though it's not a deal breaker if it doesn't because 1080p is good & it'll mean less heat & longer battery life

    The bit rate issue is complicated. A high bit rate can be just because they want better quality, or they could in fact be saving power and skipping some of the encoding steps. Canon cameras used to record at very high bit rate because they didn't have the CPU power to do the compression.

    • @jakedailey1054
      @jakedailey1054 Рік тому +3

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  Рік тому +4

      Yes. By design. I can't account for every phone being handled in EXACTLY the same way. Even building a ridiculous rig to mount all six at the same time, phones on the outside of that rig would be handled differently than phones on the inside of that rig.
      Basically, anything you do beyond my setup here will additionally tax each phone and likely reduce overall recording time.

      This makes me wonder about the bit rate too. Do phones use variable bit rate? In that case it would make sense to have a small bit rate on a static shot like this and the sony could be seen as bad for not adapting it.

    This is the big one for those of us who actually work with these things!
    I've sometimes struggled with frame rate drop while doing in car video in summer heat, and it isn't always practical to shove a phone cooler on when you're mounting to the windshield. Suxks to need to switch back to am older pre 8 Gen 1 phone for work like that. I actually carry two phone cameras when covering events just to avoid down time. Yeah, at that point, some people would just go phone plus camera, but two (or three) phones are still more pocketable than a phone & camera combo.

      And then you get to theaters and events venues... granted, when I'm shooting am event, I do wish for better low light and flash performance, but they're usually well lit!

    I have the Xperia 1 v and it performs much better than the mark iv in terms of heat. However, I tend to always record in 4K 60fps+ in HDR.
    I feel HDR causes more heat than SDR, can you do a 4K 60fps HDR test to see if there is a noticeable difference? I think I'll do an SDR test myself too.

      @@Joxe-qp6bq I'd say I'm a pretty heavy user, so I tend to charge at least once in the middle of the day. No complaints though, I think it's enough for a days use if you drain it all the way.
      From my HDR tests with 4K 60fps HDR, I stopped it after ~14 mins without an overheating warning, but when I attempted to restart it, it stopped and threw a cooling down warning, though I did run a 4K 120fps HDR test just before which ran for about 8 minutes before...I think I stopped it...maybe.
      I haven't had the phone long enough to tell, but in normal use, it's great, but I have still encountered it stopping to cool down, this is mostly after wireless charging and going straight to 4K 120fps though.
      I'm still happy, but still wondering how some UA-camrs got 3 hours of recording.
      I also tested 4K 30fps HDR, it got about 40 mins in close to 30 degrees celsius, I was away from the phone so I'm not sure why it stopped, though I assume heat.

    My Sony Xperia Pro-1 overheats like crazy as well, I found one solution is to get a gaming phone cooler fan. It's a peltier type cooler with a fan built in and it can extend my video recording time for a while, though you might pick up the fan noise on the mic.

    Hi Juan, I don't really understand how the Sony is recording double the data for the same resolution and frame rate. Does that mean there is more information being recorded on the Sony, somehow? Or is it something to do with the files being less compressed? I always thought you had a certain number of pixels at a certain rate, and that's your data - but obviously there's a lot more to it.

      Video is just like any other media. You can take the raw data off a CD or make an MP3. You can take the full camera sensor data or make a jpg. As soon as you make a smaller "package", you can adjust how much info you're saving.
