Uitvoering van Simeon ten Holts Canto Ostinato door vier pianisten: Elizabeth Bergmann, Marcel Bergmann, Sandra van Veen en Jeroen van Veen.
Tijdens het concert worden luchtfoto's van de Nederlandse fotograaf Karel Tomeï geprojecteerd.

I have been listening to this (or some other version of Canto Ostinato) at least once a week for the past 2 years. Its hard to describe what this piece now means to me, but it really just gives me hope and comfort in times of despair and makes me even happier in times of joy. What I really love about this piece are its moments of absolute sensitivity, when the piece flows as if nature itself was breathing.
I completely understand you! Its exacly the same for me. It is simply a life changing piece. Im a composer and this work has been so much of an awakening for me. If I ever got a tattoo it would be Canto Ostinato
Wij hebben op school tijdens drama hier een half uur naar geluisterd, liggend op de grond om aan alles en niets te denken. Ik zal heel eerlijk zijn, ik ben geen grote fan van klassieke muziek, maar die 30 minuten waren de mooiste 30 minuten uit mijn leven tot nu toe.

+Thomas Kuperus Wij moesten er tijdens ckv naar luisteren, jammer genoeg hadden we nog maar 10 minuten over voor de les! :c we hebben een filmpje gekeken waarin mensen uit gingen leggen wat Canto Ostinato vor hen gedaan had terwijl canto ostinato constant in de achtergrond speelde ;-; nu gebruik it het als muziek voor studeren en andere dingen! een van mijn favoriete minimalistische stukjes en de herhaling is juist fijn. :P
Deze muziek is makkelijk en toegankelijk voor mij om naar te luisteren. Harmonieus en aangenaam warm klinkend.
Maar!
Canto Ostinato lijkt mij *zeer* moeilijk om te spelen, er moet in verschillende tempo's gespeeld worden, het tempo verschuift ten opzichte van je medespelers.
Dit zorgt voor een balans die je als musicus moet vinden tussen kunnen luisteren, en je eigen ding doen.
Je kunt niet samenspelen als je niet kunt luisteren, en als je te goed luistert, dan kun je niet je eigen tempo vasthouden.
Misschien is deze spanning wat Canto Ostinato zulke magische muziek maakt. Het grijpt bij mij er diep in.
Iedere keer dat ik hier naar luister, heb ik iets nieuws geleerd.. over mezelf, over iedereen, over alles.

That's a pretty fitting description actually, it's just such a flowing masterpiece that stands the test of time. I like the word flowing for this song though.. it flows so well to me. I love coming back here to listen every now and then. I remember finding this song years ago. Still my absolute favorite piano piece

I am a musician. What I do not get is why audiences en masse start clapping immediately after the last note. Just hold your breath people, music lives by the grace of silence.
Don't worry about that, even tho I understand your opinion. It's just something the audience wants to do for the musicians, even if it just a small thing. Giving back something to the artist, just to show the artist that they are grateful

For me, the coughing adds a lot to this work. It is a strong reminder that this was performed at a moment in time: that exact moment will never return. In other words, the piece comes alive in a certain time and place, with all its 'imperfections'. Just think of the people who will hear this in 3021... they will have a priceless recording of people coughing from 2011!

Ik ben zelf niet echt van klassieke muziek maar vind dit toch wel een heel bijzonder muziekstuk... Zeker nu ik weet dat Simeon ten Holt familie van mij is :-).

I discovered this piece while i was working in a lab at my university yesterday. I was doing some mundane work and i had music on. I'm very happy to have come across this piece
wow how they manage to keep in time and with such repeating motifs for over an hour! the music is so deep it creates this space for the listener

Heerlijk. Als de weilanden ontleent ook dit stuk zijn schoonheid aan zijn eenvoud en hypnotiserende herhaling. Een uitgestrekt veld van kalmerende klanken.

Every time I hear this piece I'm confused for a couple of seconds when they finish... Feels like waking up.
Not only the piece itself is magical, but also the way it is played by these pianists. So subtle, clear and sensitive. My favorite!
Beautiful interpretation of this famous piece. I am impressed by the poetry that the musicians are able to convey whilst being concentrated on very subtle modulations... Hat off to them !

Ik luister normaal gesproken zowat uitsluitend naar rock en electromuziek. Dit is de enige uitzondering, hoe kan iets na een half uur nog steeds niet vervelen, laat staan anderhalf, zelfs al verandert er vrij weinig aan de melodie? Dit is kunst. Prachtig.
dit is de beste muziek die sinds WO-II is gecomponeerd in Nederland; en de mooiste melodie aller tijden. Ik geef overigens de voorkeur aan de 4-piano-versie.

Magnifique interprétation des quatre pianistes, de cette œuvre de SIMEON TEN HOLT , où la pièce a été terminée en 1976 et interprétée en public pour la première fois le 25 avril à Bergen sur trois pianos et un orgue électrique. Merci pour ce ce grand moment de musique Classique, que j’ai énormément aimé bravo.

Hier valkt nauwelijks naar te luisteren door alle gekuch en gehoest. Doodzonde van dit mooie stuk en enorm respectloos naar de pianisten! Blijf thuis als je de kriebelhoest hebt!
Wat een heerlijke gotspe: meneer houdt van knetterende vliegtuigen, waarvan heel het land vergeven is, maar wordt zenuwachtig van een hoestje c.q. kuchje.
Haha, je had zeker niets beters te doen dan mijn kanaal te bekijken! Eh…in dit geval gaat het wel over iets meer dan "een hoestje c.q. kuchje"… (tot meer dan 10 storingen per minuut is toch echt niet normaal meer!) Zenuwachtig? Neu niet echt, wel geïriteerd!

Fascinerend stuk. Graag sluit ik me aan bij de oproep om die rare landschapsbeelden weg te laten. Er is niets saais aan om deze vier musici in hun spel te kunnen bekijken
Die landschapsbeelden passen perfect bij de muziek vind ik, ritmische beelden, herhalende vormen, zoals de muziek
Definitely one of my top 5 best music pieces ever. Ik geloof niet in een hemel maar deze muziek is de hemel op aarde. En kan naar mijn mening alleen maar door een echte Aquarius zijn gecomponeerd.

Dit is gewoon zo lekker om naar te luisteren. Het past perfect en blijft maar doorkabbelen. Heerlijk. Echt een briljant stuk muziek.
wat een kortzichtigheid of gebrek aan inzicht hieronder... Juist in deze tijd na de aanslagen Parijs luister ik dit en geeft me inzicht of maakt me rustig. Meesterlijk stuk! Simeon mag gerust rusten, hij laat wat na zeg! Heel mooi, op het bot en in de hersenpan. Laat het vaker onderdeel zijn van de publieke omroep zodat men een moment rust kan pakken in plaats van boer zoekt een vrouw of zoiets.

I know the film editor meant well, but the landscapes are not really necessary, I really like watching these wonderful people playing this wonderful music, while there are beautiful landscapes unfolding in my mind's eye. Thank you for this pleasure ^^
During the performance the images were projected behind the performers so that one could watch both. But from a distance the images were more clearly visible than the movement of the musicians. Nothing beats a live performance, especially not a youtube video. I often closed my eyes during the performance

Mein Physik Professor hat das Lied immer in seinen Onlinevorlesungen abgespielt, wenn er mal wieder eine viertel Stunde zu spät kam…
Stellt euch vor ihr seid mega angespannt, weil der Stoff richtig hart ist und ihr wisst, dass 70% durch die Prüfung fallen…und dann hört ihr dieses Lied in absolut unterirdischer Tonqualität. Ich wäre hätte ein paar Mal fast gekotzt aber zum Glück habe ich am Ende doch bestanden. Mittlerweile höre ich das Stück sogar echt gerne! =)
Een mooie en liefdevolle uitvoering. En wat ben ik trots dat Nederland zoveel geweldig goede componisten heeft voortgebracht die altijd bescheiden maar toch in volle vrijheid tot wasdom komen. En gelukkig trots zijn dat mag !

ik luister al heel lang voor ik ga slapen naar dit stuk. zou niemand van mij verwachten. Het is een meesterwerk. Probeer het zelf maar eens, het is een soort meditatie. Het geluid gaat alle kanten op, het is universeel. Ik doe dit nu al een jaar of 3 dus. Zag zojuist door al die berichten op de tube dat de schrijver van het stuk dood is, nou jah. wel wat moois gedaan in zijn leven toch, kan je van mij niet zeggen hehe. Zonde dat alles uiteindelijk vernietigd wordt he, geniet van het moment. RIP

Not exactly sure how I got here, but I love this! Just bought a few recordings of it to listen to as well. :D
Uniek stuk, ik ken het al meer als 20 jaar. Leuk om te zien dat er steeds meer mensen door bevangen raken. Ik vind de meeste beelden bijzonder goed gekozen. Wat je ziet is steeds een repetitie of een veelvoud (bootjes, containers, sloten, akkers etc...) van hetzelfde met daarbinnen steeds subtiele afwijkingen.
Zo, een van de weinige jongeren en kinderen die ook van minimal klassiek houden. Bravo
Deze uitvoering vindt ik mooi omdat de klanken van de piano's bij mij een gevoel van ruimtelijkheid en elegance geven. Ik heb wat gezocht op You Tube, misschien is daar niet alles te vinden maar deze uitvoering (van vier vleugels) brengt mij wel waar ik wil zijn.

Dit is idd prachtig, maar vindt je jezelf ook niet een enorme oude taart geworden, nu je de hedendaagse muziek beschrijft als; ''dat gebonk van tegenwoordig''?
Bovendien is dat ''gebonk'' al 2,5 decennia vertegenwoordigt in main-stream-muziek, je kwalificatie is dus niet alleen (te) kort-door-de-bocht en derhalve enigszins respectloos, maar ook een béétje achterhaald........net als je opvatting m.i..
Gratis tip; probeer óók eens de schoonheid van muziek, die je op voorhand niet zo aanspreekt, tóch eens te ontdekken. Zo verruim je niet alleen je muzikale horizon, maar 't houdt je nog jong ook. ;)
Het leven is minder leuk als je niet op youtube kan zeiken over hoe de muziek van deze tijd alleen maar over bitches en bling bling gaat en alle films geen verhaal hebben.
Jan Smit goeie orginele muziek is er genoeg. Je moet soms alleen iets verder dan de top 40 kijken ;)

Saw this very same piece during the mimimal music festival in Amsterdam, but also in the concertgebouw and in deventer. Everytime I get in a state of trance. It is relaxing but also intense to listen.
Destijds live gezien in Muziekcentrum Eindhoven, vond de begeleidende foto's van Karel Tomeï niets toevoegen. Eerder storend zelfs, deed mijn ogen dicht. Interactie van de spelers was wel mooi om te zien. Met vier vleugels een heel boeiend werk.

Er zijn zo langzamerhand vele uitvoeringen van de canto en met verschillende bezettingen. Ik vind deze uitvoering nog steeds een van de allerleukste. Fris gespeeld, met veel elan. Kuchje hier en daar helemaal niet erg. Laat me graag meeslepen. Goed gedaan!!
Dat ik dit prachtstuk via DWDD leer kennen verbaast me. Er komt meer klassiek in DWDD en dat is positief. Maar die paar seconden die in de uitzending gespeeld werden waren genoeg om me meteen naar UA-cam te brengen. Tijdloos mooi, en fantastisch gespeeld.

Ik las in de krant over de uitvoering van deze muziek in de Tilburgse koepelhal en wilde weten waardoor de jeugd zo rustig werd van deze muziek.Na het zelf te hebben gehoord voelde ik ook deze rust.
Groots en meeslepend, wat is dit toch een bijzonder stuk muziek. En een uitvoering met vier piano's is en blijft voor mij hoe het "hoort".
