Tubular Bells changed my life in many ways that I can't describe. This concert brought back a myriad of dreams, all good. Thank you Mike. x
Tubular bells was bells was the first record I bought, now in my late sixties just hearing the first note's played, brings back memories of my youth.
Magistral !!! Gràcies UAB !!! Gran homenatge al MESTRE MIKE OLDFIELD !!!
This was awesome!, brilliant! Bravo ladies and gentlemen. Bravo!
As a 64 year old life long fan of Mike Oldfield I have nothing but absolute admiration for this arrangement in that it dose not add embellishment but stays so true to the original that it almost extinguishable from the original recording - so much respect for their restraint to add their own interpretations
I'm also 64 and fully agree to your comment. This interpretation is very close to original one.
68. First heard in Leicester Sq, I think in 73/4 as accompaniment to the Exorcist. Made my mates stay and listen after the film was over! Have been captivated ever since (I prefer TUB2 but I did watch it live in Edinburgh Castle. One minor critique. He was no Vivian Standish but improved immensely in the second movement(?).
Does anyone think Side 2 is better. I do.
Well I'm 67 and agree with the above. Listened to the first Australian radio playing late one Sunday night sometime in 1973. Have loved Mike Oldfields' work ever since and saw him perform at his only Melbourne concert.
Sorry, I don't agree that it's almost extinguishable from the original , they have certainly added their own interpretations, not that I don't like it, I do.
I'm 64 too, and this was my first album I ever bought, this is an amazing rendition
Bravo Bravo Bravo and Bravo.
by far the best ever non original Tubular Bells version i heard. i grew up listening to Mike Oldfields and still listen to it. well done and a salut to all the musicians. you can see their passion for Mike Oldfield and music. thank you for sharing this 💕💕👍👍👍
You need to hear Tubular Bells for Two by two Aussie musicians Aidan Roberts and Daniel Holdsworth. Two of them perform the whole thing live and do a better job than all these musos combined.
This is absolut right that, what you say (sorry my English is not so good-Würde Lothar Matteus sagen ich nat
ürlich nicht😂❤)! i have never heard such so an Tub Bells1 Song, absolutli increable Musicians❤😂!!!
@@garytopic8807 I have listened to a clip by the Aussies, and there are recordings used!
I wonder what the acoustics sounded like in that workplace? I like many Mike Oldfield fans that have commented on this page, grew up with this Absolutely Superb Masterpiece of Music. And I am still mesmerised at the musical and sound engineering skills Mike Oldfield had when he was 17 and recorded Tubular Bells. Kimbo north west Tasmania Australia.
Saw a live version of this last night on the 50th Anniversary European tour, the whole thing was played by just 7 musicians and a singer and they did a fantastic job but this video goes to show how many musicians you need to faithfully recreate this masterpiece that was scarily mostly all played by one man originally, absolutely flawless version.
Tubular bells was the first album that I bought aged 13. That brought back so many memories. Thank you all. !!
My first album was also when I was 13 (I think). It was In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida!
Many, many thanks to UAB for this Performance, the absolutly best composition in the world - ever!!!!!!!!! Thanks Mike, God bless you and all Musicans! Peace NOT war!
Much respect for the musicians. Their stamina for this long piece is impressive and most are playing without sheet music for this complex arrangement as well.
THIS is a real TRIBUTE! Playing it as it was intended by Michael Oldfield himself. Just like the real perfect thing. Thank you very much! Now I see, there is still hope that manhood will provide new talented musicians doing it "by hand". Thank you! to all the people in Barcelona! Thank you, Michael!!!
Exceptionnel !
Musicians being musicians, no audience, no distractions, the transitions are flawless. "This is what we do". Thank you.
If the universe has an orchestra of praise I’m pretty sure i will be playing the triangle 🥳
Not a concert then more like a full dress rehearsal
An absolutely beautiful re-birth of a musical masterpiece. Huge credit to all involved.I wish I was there live to embrace it ♥️
50 years ago I was listening to the LP recording of Tubular Bells and enjoying it tremendously and now all these years later I just tremendously enjoyed this performance. The Spanish have such music in their souls... thank you so much for sharing it!
When I was about 16 years old, it was Mike Oldfield's compositions that awakened my love for music, and I was absolutely obsessed with Tubular Bells. I know every version by Mike himself and and quite a few by others as well, and i think this is by far is the best version other than the original. What a fantastic performance! Also a shoutout to the mixing engineer who did a brilliant job as well. Thanks for the goosebumps :)
My thoughts exactly. I have listened and listened to every version I can find but this is the best of them all.
I agree. This performance beats the original! I like Mike's later albums (especi
ally Ommadawn) much more but this version is insanely good on all levels!
I really hope young people will get inspired by this and go out find out the works of artists like Oldfield, Genesis, Yes, Camel, Zappa etc.
I'm on the other side of that. It's a poor impression of the one man original. Mixing wasn't to my taste either.
@@ArtVanAuggie I agree. I lived with the original for months when it came out. Ok, this version maybe note for note, but, put simply, what is lacking is FEEL. You can't replicate that I don't think. Respect to all the players here though, they did what they had to do, but very machine-like.

I'm wondering if it's to "clean" for you due to the nature of digital and modern recording gear vs the original being analog and older gear in general.
I was 16 then. Lay on my bed, earphones from the stereo. I could lose my difficult self, listening. Inspiring, peaceful, lost to the world, my "own" personal, beneficial drug. Thanks, Mike, and thanks UAB.
And like you did back then I still enjoy listening to this great tune now and then just to recapture those feelings which is what music does..
We share a similar experience, but it was TB 2 for me, lights off and I was transported to realm of emotional and spiritual magic, chills up my spine, even now it has the a power to lift me
@@Slaphappy1 TB 2 is a great LP as well actually hard to choose between them as to my preference
Reminds me must upgrade mine .
And here I thought I was the only one that did that! I was only 12 but this album floored me. This is a fantastic rendition as well, glad it popped up on my feed. Thank you musicians from UAB, this really took me back.
The best version of Tubular Bells I've ever come across since Tubular Bells. Which means it sounded pretty much like the original, virtually no deviations from it. Bravo.
Thank you for a great performance.
What a marvellous performance. Well done everybody. Great musicians perform and interpret a great composition. Thank you very much UAB, it was a pleasure to watch and listen to you.
I'm blown away! Never hear a live performance this close to the original recording! Enhorabona! 🙌🏻👏🏻🫀
only just picked this up! Brilliant! Wonderful! Been a big fan since the start got all his music! This makes me so happy!
Excellent concert. Thanks for broadcasting it live!
Beautifully and sensitively done. A brilliant performance of a brilliant work. Well done, congratulations to all musicians and for making it happen. ❤❤❤👏👏👏🙏🙏
As fresh as the day iy was released. A timeless classic.
What a pleasure to listen and see this video. I am 65 and still listen to Mike Oldfield albums regularly. This interpretation is absolutely stunning and so close to the original master peace. Thank-you so much for your work! God bless you.
Extremely well done tribute of one of the most amazing pieces of music ever written. Hopefully Mike gets a chance to see this. I also like that they stayed pretty honest to the original. I am not a fan of some of the performances that has every instrument ever created being used to add some new twist to an already perfect song. I do have a wee nit pick though. It has to do with the opening bass. Bass is obviously very important since they are using three bass players. For some reason that opening bass line sounds wrong. I don't know if the tuning is slightly altered our the strings are a different gauge or what but it doesn't sound right. Also this bass player is obviously better than Mike was when he did the original but he sounds to good and to smooth. In the original Mike played all of the instruments, some he learned for the song itself. I know this is absurd but after listening to this music for 50 years you really learn it and how it sounds. So all in all this group does an amazing job and thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Xavier Alern & ALL OF THE OPUS ONE ORCHESTRA,
I just found this production of yours and immediately I thought The Great Mike Oldfield was going to be part of it, but alas, t'was not so, but I listened anyway. A VERY NICE TWEEK, worthy of MO's smile. It was really cool to watch you play while you all chilled. I'm 69 and I've listened to ths when it first came out. Are you all Oldfield fans? The only reason I don't have all his music is because I CAN'T FIND IT ALL. Just browse "Mike Oldfield discography". WELL DONE, AND DONE WELL!! BRAVISIMO!
Insanely good and true to the original. Epic performance. Can it get any better!
Absolutely wonderful, perfect, brilliant 💯
Never commented on UA-cam before but Wow this is so faithful to the original album. Sent shivers down my spine! Thank you so much for this.
Thoroughly enjoyed that performance
Gracias..Gratzia..Thank You
wonderful arangment and awesome musicians
I remember many moons ago being awoken by the most astonishing music while having fallen asleep while listening to my radio in bed. I did not catch the name of the music or the artist until a few nights later. I am not 100 percent sure but i think it was played on the pirate radio station "MIAMIGO". It has been one of my favourite pieces of pure genius ever since. It was, of course, TUBULAR BELLS. It was the first album I ever purchased. I was 15 years old at the time and I am so delighted to be listening to it now aged 66. Where has all the time gone. Bravo to the orchestra for such a brilliant performance and the only thing missing is a rapturous applause at the end.......👋👋👋👋👋
When you see all the instruments being played by musicians without a lot of ego, it looks very impressive, and I enjoy it even more !
Correct , no showmanship… just precise music
Awesome. Mike Oldfield's music has been a very important cornerstone in my life, I love his music to bits. Would have been a different person without it. This briliant and loving performance makes me realize even more how briliant his music is. Hard to believe that this was his debut album recorded in a makeshift studio with instruments he found on the premises. Grazy. Thanks Mike, and thanks Xavier and friends. And thanks Hans for introducing me to this music.
Thank you, absolutely wonderful
I was 7 or 8 years old when I discovered the music of Mike Oldfield. It was like nothing I had previously heard. Almost a soundscape that transported me to somewhere magical and mystical.
I was hooked. I braved the rains to be at Edinburgh Castle for TB2 and the luxury of the Royal Albert Hall for TB3 (to which I took my father after a friend I was meant to be taking dropped out at the last minute).
I congratulate Mr Mike Oldfield for having composed this masterpiece of modern music. Whilst music survives long past its composers demise, I believe that in the next century this will be looked at the same way as we look at Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. It will live on. Unlike the 3 minute pop wonders that currently fill the radio waves.
I congratulate the musicians who have played this at UAB. It is masterful and as close to the original as I've ever heard.
A wonderful tribute to our maestro.
Quina meravella nois!!
Gràcies a tu, Xavier!
A true work of Art
EXCELLENT!!!
simply outstanding 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Epic effort really well preformed, I shared Tubular Bells with my 14 year old grandson today. Good compositions lives forever. Thank you all for your wonderful execution and effort.
NAILED IT!!!!! No mean feat, either! Parts of the work (especially in "part 2") are the sorts of things that gives live players nightmares, too, so knowing this piece, I get what an accomplishment this is. Ensemble was super-tight, too...the only wobbles I picked up on was at the start of the second part, where you've got those interlocked ostinati at a bit slower tempo but the trick there is to communicate how the underlying metric pulse forms. And that got pulled off too, with everyone right on it when the bass finally defines the actual pulse. NOT easy.
I've been saying for literally decades that Oldfield's work needs to be taken very seriously. And given how he pushed studio tech to the absolute limit in composing and realizing these long-form compositions from the 1970s, the groundbreaking technical achievements are just as critical on this work as anything by Stockhausen, who I studied with at the beginning of the 2000s. And the fact is, I probably wouldn't have done that had it not been for Mike Oldfield's work, and especially this work in particular, causing me to wonder if I could do this too? Ya done good, y'all!!!
Divini, ogni volta mi emoziono.
I haven't listened to _Tubular Bells_ for years but I used to know it so well it is permanently engraved in my memory. Listening to this brought back many happy memories, and everything fitted perfectly into place. A wonderful performance and tribute to a great album: thank you so much!
With strict adherence to the original fidelity of the original recording from so many years ago, UAB has done an amazing job in recreating this masterpiece. Highly recommended.
I'm a very BIG FAN OF MIKE OLDFIELD, since a teen( now 66)and I have all his music on LP's,CD's,DVD's ....CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL , WHO PLAYED IN YOUR 50th rendition of TB(1972/3)18Months @number ONE , Absolutely BRILLIANT BRILLIANT, Hats of to you all,job well executed ❤❤❤💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💯💥
Well done !!! Thank you all for bringing back memories when I bought the album at Waterloo train station 50 years ago . Most of you were not born when released … so again , Thank you , Barrie … Gibraltar .
Finally, a near perfect live version of this iconic album. Been waiting 50 years for this. Thank you Mike Oldfield and all the incredible musicians who nailed this performance. Not a fan of the venue though. It would have been better in front of a live crowd.
Thank you very much. Excellent, fantastic. I am totally happy that I have the chance to hear and see the concert on youtube ❣
Congratulations!
One of the best versions of the latest tributes to Tubular bells...!
Thank you for sharing this timeless classic music. What an honor to hear this masterpiece "Tubular Bells" in its entirety by such gifted musicians. Simply the best.
Excellent, proudly in honor of Mike Oldfield ❤🔥
danke euch allen musikalischen Instrumenten spielern und m.oldfield ❤
Bestial !!! Clavaito !!!!!
Sharing at its best music
Sitting here in tears of joy. I first heard TB 3 days after its release in Canada. I’ve been listening to it for fifty years. This music will still be played in hundreds of years.
100% Love from Norway -57 y.
@@LarsFossen 100% láska a obdiv díla Mike Oldfielda z České republiky - 46 roků.
For Ever, Mike Oldfield!
What a beautiful rendition! I have heard many musicians over the years trying to play 'Tubular Bells' - You just nailed it!! Wonderful!
I'm also 64 and I fully agree with nearly all comments.
But I do think this is as close to the original as can be,
given the fact that the original was made with multiple recordings nearly all instruments
played only by Mike whereas this is one recording of multiple instruments played by multiple musicians.
Given the complexity of the compositions is no joke and a true testament to their talent.
Which clearly proves the utter 70's genius Mike is, as today we no longer seem to have.
Like many others, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, to name just two we seem to lose them one by one to be
replaced by despicable IA that lacks any form of artistic creativity
I really enjoyed this performance, true excellence.
Magnificent musicians. A perfect rendition. I have never enjoyed the composition more. Thank you!
Stumbled across this recording and find it absolutely wonderful. Great performance and sound.
Enhorabuena! Grandísimo trabajo. El maestro estará orgulloso❤
I'm so glad I got to hear Tubular Bells again! I was 16 when I bought the album. What a great way to celebrate and share it. I'm so glad for the surprise. Thank you and peace❣
Many anniversary versions created during last 2 years. But I have never heard something that professional, so true, true to the original with such an attention to details.
It is so pure, not overproduced, no fancy reverbs, just as it was in 70s. You really mastered it! The arrangement is really well done and the guy who did it must have spent a lot of time listening to the original. It lacks mistakes that are heard alot throughout youtube. Congrats!!!
We now have to wait for almost an hour to get to the BEST part . . . but it's worth it ( I love the ending, and by the smiles on the performers faces - so do they )
This is just wonderful! brilliantly played by incredible musicians. I bought Tubular Bells when it was released in 1973 and this is just spot on! made me shed more than a few tears
Faithful recreation. Brilliant
That was most scintillating, musicians at the top of their trade, the talent here is outstanding, and they played every single note perfectly, was just like listening to the album, astounding. 10/10 absolute MASTERPIECE, so epic, and not forgetting the Genuius that Is Mike Oldfield
Great performance!!! Listening from Thailand
I listened....and I observed the musicians playing.....and most of all....I enjoyed ! Excellent performance of Mike's most brilliant piece of musical art (personal opinion)
Muchas gracias amigos de UAB !
Outstanding! Bravo Brava!!
I can't begin to describe how much I enjoyed this - it is a true love letter to the original! I love the passion, freshness and accuracy that breathes new life into this extraordinary piece of music!

Wow...Amazing! Love it and enjoy it very much 🙂
I have been listening to this album since I was a kid in the 70s, and this is fantastic. So well done. Bravo, ladies and gentlemen! I totally agree, this location really set the mood for the music.
Had this on my " Play later " list . What an amazing rendition , am sure will be hearing it again and again
Extraordinario!!!
Brilliant! A good Master of Ceremonies got the spirit of Viv Stanshall just right. Much as gracias

So am I my friend, still love it.

Nice play!
Amazing cover, both musically and technically. Great place to play as well. 👍👍👍❤❤❤
I so enjoyed this!!! It brought back so many memories. As I listened, I knew what was coming next. It was so familiar, like an old friend. I smiled all the way through. Made a 66 year old young again, for a while at least. Thank you so much
I saw Mike Oldfield in concert for Tubular Bells on the day of my 21st birthday back in 1982 in Auckland New Zealand. I was with my girlfriend and my brother. Sadly my brother passed away a few years later of cancer. This music always reminds me of the best year of my life.
It was his only time in Quebec city in 1982 and also, in north america. I have found memories of that extraordinary great musical evening at Palais Montcalm.
