I watched robovac youtubers for 2 years and found your channel couple weeks back, when i heard on this video "Roborock why can you just put the functionality of scheduling cleaning zones" i knew i was missing a true gem of a channel all this time. Also all the observation about diff carpets and obstacles detection, you really take time to get to know the robot and not just release the video 3 days after you got it. Keep it up mate!
Finally!! What an awesome channel. Been looking for unbiased reviews for ages and came across your channel yesterday. The UA-cam algorithm must be so messed up as you have the best in depth and detailed reviews. Thank you for dedication and sharing.
I've the S4 along with two long-haired humans and a husky. I have to empty it daily, but it does a fantastic job cleaning and I would literally go mad during shedding if not for it. Been wishing for this since the predecessor was announced, and now it's finally a thing. Particularly been interested in the mopping feature because the S4 only has a wet cloth it pulls around. Obviously I was never expecting wet mopping action from it but just keeping things a bit more maintained between proper cleaning is always welcome. The S4 is still good enough that I can walk around without socks and not have grit on my feet during dry season, which is hella impressive. Glad to see that quality has remained a high priority for Xiaomi. It also looks like replacement parts are still easily available. Thanks for a fantastic review.
Excellent review! Thank you for giving such a detailed demonstration. It's made it much more difficult to convince myself I don't need (want) a $1400 robot vacuum cleaner. When the ultra bundle is available again, I'm gonna have to bite.
I have been using the maxv for a few months now as well and can only say, despite not buying the cleaning dock, i am amazed and in love with it…. set it up and empty the bin every few days with 2 cats. The water and the mop do get dirty quickly ( which i good and bad haha) but it cleans fairly well. In that regard i wish i bought the cleaning dock but 700eur for filling up the water and cleaning the mop is still too much for me. Anyways i will never use any other bot or look at any other bot because it is a gamechanger. It is Smart!! in cleaning and lets you put lots of individual functions! Only downside: it recognizes that it would get stuck in my dining chairs so it doesn’t clean under them. But you can tell the robot to clean it anyways(ignoring the “avoid the obstacle” when clicking on the obstacle after the clean)
Great and comprehensive review, thank you for putting in the time and effort on this! I have an s7 auto empty and maybe I’m missing it but I can’t find a way in the scheduled cleanings to have the robot do multiple passes, a feature I would really appreciate since that second pass really gets things spotless.
Hi. Thanks for the vid, great work. So glad to finally find an unsponsored fair review. One question: how often do you need to clean and maintain the system
I have mine running every other day, so I do it about once a week. Dump dirty water, add clean and remove hair. As far as the Ultra dock, I clean that about once a month.
I really enjoy your videos I find them really informative! I think a really helpful addition would be a maintenance and supportability section of the videos, in such an expensive item I think its important that parts can be user serviced and not end up as landfill if there is an issue out of warranty. My Eufy vacuum is great as the wheels and battery can easily be replaced with just a couple of screws, from the video this vacuum doesn't look be as user maintainable. I find that the battery will wear out after a while and being able to replace it easily adds a lot more longevity to the product, I think it would be great if you could mention how "green"/serviceable the vacuums are... just a friendly suggestion to make your awesome videos even better :)
I just bought the S7maxv ultra. Still getting to know it since I have only had it 2 days. Your video has helped me immensely. Ty for that! It made me subscribe. My question for u is, does the robot know when to go to the dock to empty the dustbin when it becomes full? I have did a full turbo clean on my entire house and it did not empty the dustbin until the robot needed to charge. I was so worried that the dustbin surely had to be full before it needed to charge. I figured my house has plenty of dog hair to make the dustbin fill up and need emptied before the cleaning is complete. So does it know when to empty dustbin, or do I need to manually send it to dock while cleaning to empty dustbin, and then resume cleaning?? I think i am going to love this thing once I get my cleaning schedule figured out. Ty again for your great in depth review! Bravo to you!
No it does not, thanks to iRobot and their patents. I'm not sure what the latest features of the app are, but I think you can make it empty the dust bin every time it goes to clean the mop pad. If not, you can change your schedule to multiple schedules of a few rooms each, then it will empty between each one.
Great review, I couldn't agree more. I absolutely love my S7 Max V, I've decided not to get the ultra dock or auto empty dock for now, I don't use the mop feature enough to really need the automatic washing of the mop pads and emptying the dust bin is no big deal. I don't have pets so don't have to worry about the pet waste issue. I have a few suggestions for some videos. How about a detailed review of the Ecovacs X1? It would also be interesting to compare the cleaning performance of the Ecovacs X1 and the Roborock S7 Max V, those two bots are probably considered the best right now, they're certainly the most expensive. The Roomba J7 and Roborock S7 Max V are probably the two best robots to avoid pet waste at this point so comparing those might be interesting. I think the Roborock is better by far, no comparison there really. I now have 8 bots and I've definitely developed some favorites. My favorites in no particular order are the Roborock S7 Max V, the Roborock S4 Max, the Eufy Robovac X8 and my newest one, the 360 S10, I'm really impressed with that one. I definitely like the next 3 and I'm glad I got them but not sure if they would be my first choice for a recommendation but they're good over all. The Neabot Q11, the Dreametech L10 pro and the Trifo Lucy pet edition. I would have to say the Roomba J7 is my least favorite, it's ok, but all of my other bots are just better at navigation, cleaning power and battery life. I know you also have the Roomba so wondering if you feel that way as well, Irobot has just really fallen behind the times compared to what is out there now.
This might be the only video that identifies its poor performance with low pile carpets. This is a big issue especially in U.K. where low pile carpet is most common. Thanks for the fantastic in depth review!
I have the robot one month now and I'm waiting to receive two addons. The first is a mop drier and it's not a big deal but the second is a game changer - the addons replaces the two water tanks. It has fitting for the tap water pipe and a exit that can be connected to the drain. Also it has 1L detergent resarvuare. I'm in the middle of home renovation and I laid pipes to the kitchen cabinet it will be docked.
At 15:03 you can have the robot clean a marked area on schedule by instead of using "Schedules" option use "Routines" option in the window before choosing robot in the beginning of the app. Routines also allows you to have a number of different tasks to be done in order, like if you want it to vacuum with max+ mode first and deep mop after automatically, this is where it can be done. Is it possible to buy a brush with bristles on the roborock store and change out the rubber only one for people with a lot of low pile carpets?
I'll have to look into that, thank you. I didn't play with anything in the app before you select the robot. As for your question, it may be. Their newest robot, the budget one with the self-empty dock, has a hybrid brush that some viewers said should fit the S7 MaxV, but apparently, it's not available yet (the brush, not the robot).
@@MrRoombato in the beginning of the app next to the plus symbol to add more robots is a button, this button is either a symbol of a robot vacuum or a square with four squares within. To see the Routines option that symbol need to be the square, otherwise "Routines" can't be found.
@@milham975 Yeah, I found it. Haven't played with it much, because it seems like a manual solution. Meaning, you program a routine and then you have to go into the app to activate it. I don't really use the app to send the robot to clean stuff, I either use schedules or Google. Speaking of which, is there a way to use Google to send the robot out to do the routines?
@@MrRoombato you can use it that way but you also can put the routines on a schedule so it will automatically do it. All your routines will also become visible in the "Schedules" window after this is done.
Thank you for creating reviews I actually feel that I can trust :) I find that espeicially rare to come by with these kind of products, so I wonder if it's because of paid/restricted reviews or something like that. But if that's the case, then there's a a ton of those. Do you know if that is the case?
Most reviewers get free products, open the box, record the robot cleaning their house, put up the video and then sell or give away the robot. They don't trash the robots because they want companies to keep sending them more. UA-cam rewards quantity of content. I apparently am dumb, because I refuse to do that. I've sent back robots because they were trash (I won't trash a robot unless the company demands I review it) and I turn down most requests for "collaboration" because I'm tired of wasting my time testing bad robots. I also actually use every robot I review. If it's terrible, I can't use it, so I won't review it. But this is why I only have 3000 something subscribers while everyone else has over 10,000.
Great review. Thank you for putting this together. I have a Roomba S9 and couldn't be more disappointed, how do you fell about its performance on carpets? It does do the job? :)
@@MrRoombato mine would be medium/thick, about the mopping....does it justify the investment? I've seem people happy with it, and others quite disappointed :D
@@alexgmrs The mopping is outstanding. I can't imagine why anyone would be disappointed with that aspect. The only thing that bothers me is the self empty system, which isn't very robust. You have to check it fairly often (once a week) for blockages, as it has no idea when it's clogged, and dumb things clog it.
Towards the end of the video did you say this is not good for mopping ? Because I am buying this mainly for mopping and vacuuming daily. I understand we need to deep clean ourselves once in a while. But for regular daily cleaning this should be fine ? Right ?
Hey! Thanks for the review! I bought S7 MaxV and your review really helped to make a decision! For me it consumes 5% battery to clean 6 sq.m with maximum vacuum and mop. What battery consumption was it your tests?
Update! I have had this machine now for 2 weeks and absolutely love it! We have a small dog daycare and have mainly hardwood floors, this thing cleans almost every inch.. we do have to clean corners and against the walls but Wow! It cleans the rest! We have had others but they were random and went wherever This one with the mop cleaning and going back where it left off is nothing more than miraculous!
I'm not sure, to be honest. I use the Roborock solution, which seems to be out of stock, but I never actually tested it to see if there's a noticeable difference between using it and just using water.
Think you can set the frequency on how frequent it will go back to watch the mop so if you know it's very dirty you can just raise the frequency. Also note that you can set how careful it should be in the app, for example I have set mine to be careful so it makes a small circle around each object.
How would you compare this against the W10? In Canada atm, the W10 is $1000 cheaper due to a sale going on and wondering if the price difference is worth it. I plan to vacuum and mop daily in my 600sqft place that has hardwood floors, with 2 dogs, if that matters.
If you plan to vacuum daily you are going to be emptying your dustbin every day. Other than that, the W10 gets the job done very well and is a very reliable robot.
Excellent review! Have an ancient Roomba 960 and in the market to finally replace it. Watched a ton of videos today on this model and yours is one of the best. One item no one seems to mention is how this/current robots handle multiple floors. Is it obvious or…? Thanks!
You can add a map in the app and take it to a different floor. To me, it's a gimmick. The whole point of a robot like this is minimal involvement in the process. Carrying the robot to a different floor doesn't quite mesh with that. But yeah, it can do it.
I've watched a lot of reviews on this vacuum and this one is at the top, nice work. That low pile carpet test might be the deciding factor for me .... Wonder if roborock would consider a bristle brush accessory to just pop in?
@@MrRoombato awesome tip! Looks like someone left a comment on roborock's site that it works. Thanks again, now it's back on the list!! $$$$! Ugh. Lol.
It tells you when to refill the tank, but the dust bang thing can't happen because of iRobot's patents. So it used to guess, and now it stopped doing it. Just feel the bag every week when you change the water.
When parts for the q5 are available. I wonder if using the combo brush on the s7 maxv will help with the fine debris. The q5 brush is compatible with the q and s7 series robots
Great review. Unfortunately, it discouraged me from buying because the main floor I intend to use it has three low pile carpets. Is there any robot you could recommend me that has this other cool features such as vacuuming/mopping with vibration function or am I doomed with no perfect robot for me yet?
Possibly? I'd have to run it without the dock to test that, and...I'm not gonna do that. :) I need this thing to clean my floors. It alternates days with the X1 OMNI.
What do you do for the problem of bad odor from the mop after a few days? I put a cup of disinfectant in the dock tank. It works, but the problem is the residue on the floor. I regret for buying this instead of the Deebot X1 Onmi... I think the Deebot X1 Omni does not have this problem due to the mop dryer.
Uh...no, you don't. :) Or you wouldn't, if you owned both. Anyway...I don't have that problem, because mine runs every other day. Or maybe I don't have it because I use the Roborock cleaning solution. Regardless of which it is, I've never noticed any odor from it, and I have a good nose.
How does this mop shiny glossy tile floors (such as granite)? Does it leave stains / watermarks you see against the light like pretty much everything except steamer or manual swiping?
Exactly the question I was going to ask. Seeing as how there is the option of either bristle or rubber, and those brushes aren't expensive, you could keep both on hand.
Nice review! Thanks! Waiting for the delivery of mine. Can you tell the robot to don’t lift the mopping pad on the kitchen rubber Matt, but lift it on my sons bedroom where he has a short hair carpet? Thanks!
there's a carpet zone automatically detected by the robot and will be shown on the map, you can remove those manually so it wont lift the mop. Edit: just double checked my S7 plus (should be identical), there's a "edit carpet" section and then you select "ignore carpet" and draw zones where you want the vacuum to basically ignore the fact there's a carpet in that zone.
Moved to a new house and in search of "the best" vac and mopper (they can be different robots). Brand and price aren't a concern. One throw low pile rug and all floating floor click together vinyl. 3 short haired dogs. What should I buy and hit me with a link for your help. Thank you.
Mine obstacles avoiding is kind of shit don't know why, sometimes could see the chair sometimes can't and keep raming into it or things like scissor will get stuck etc....
What about pet hair?? I have a self empty Shark with the bristles instead of rubber, and it cannot complete a full run without jaming on cat hair, either wrapper around the bristles, or clogged underneath them leading into the basket. Is this any better?
Thanks. Something is broken on their site. I've replaced it with an amazon link, but Amazon doesn't have the ultra dock, only the robot itself and the plus dock. I've contacted them. Thank you very much for pointing it out.
I just got my Roborock S7MaxV Ultra, very disappointed that it does not pick up nearly anything from my carpets. Exceptional job on hardwoods though. I just ordered a hybrid brush roller similar to one for the Q5 to see if that helps. If not this thing is going back to the store. Interesting to note, my old Roomba 880 which is an all rubber set of rollers picks up the cat fur, paper, dirt and cat litter very well. Nothing can touch it as far as performance, does not get stuck but the most irritating robot of the bunch.
Your carpeting must be low pile. This thing sucks on low pile carpeting, but in my tests is pretty great on thicker stuff. Please let me know how the new brush works out.
Really interested in this product. Question for anyone who knows... The pet waste section only covered dog poop. My boys have gotten bad about urinating in the house. Since this vacuum is apparently not good with wet mopping, will it avoid dog urine? Can it be explicitly set to avoid wet spills?
I don't see any evidence that it has that capability, nor can I imagine how they would program it with the available technology. If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion...urinating in the house is a very serious problem. I would try to address that urgently. Crate training seems to be what most people do. Lock 'em up, only let them out to go outside and take them out immediately to pee, then reward them (e.g. beef jerky) for peeing outside. Let them out inside every now and then and follow them, wait for them to pee, scream "no" as they do it, and drag them outside. Eventually they will get the idea. If they know it's bad and still do it, well... :)
@@MrRoombato Thanks so much! Appreciate your time and thoroughness in replying. My guys are senior citizen Chihuahua mixes. They've been in a funk since our son was born 3 years ago now, and a new daughter hasn't helped... I love them dearly, but we've been doing just what you've said, and recently resorted to diapers during their free-range time just so they don't have to live the rest of their lives in solitary. Two kids and two dogs in diapers... So much fun. 😭
@@jwr6796 Yeah, it can't be easy. I'm glad you've figured something out. I suggest you get the roborock and have it mop all that stuff up. At least the parts of the floor it can get to will be clean.
Yeah, well, rubber brushes have pluses and minuses. Every robot has trouble with the cat hair for some reason though. The Roborock has no problems with dog hair, except on low pile.
I don't know if you can. I can, but only if the bedroom door is closed. It's not loud, but the the sounds that wake you up are going to be it running over room dividers and bumping into things. Not the vacuum motor.
Thanks. This is obviously not some paid review like the one titled "Perfect" that is at the top of the UA-cam search. Perfect? Yeah, right. I have been watching the US release date get pushed out time and time again and was considering the Ecovacs Omni X1 whatever vacuum mop, but after hearing how well Roborock does on dry stains, the thing I care most about, I will wait a while longer. I currently use a Roborock S4 and it's very quick and navigates so much better than the Roomba i7 I had and sold. So I'm sure this S7 will also be very good. We'll see if Ecovacs has a good sale for Prime day and if Roborock keeps pushing out the US delivery date.
If you care about scrubbing dried on stains, avoid the Ecovacs like the plague. I am testing replacement mopping pads which may fix the problem, but as it comes from the factory, it's terrible at it.
@@MrRoombato It's the real-world stuff I care about and that's small dried-on spots which are mostly water and the grit the vacuum leaves behind that can be felt when walking barefoot.
I think that in reality we can't expect anything special from those robot vacuum cleaners yet.I mean they are just "helpers" by my opinion. When you don't have time or if you run it basically everyday.Usually for small "incidents".Otherwise I don't count on them that much. They dont have strong sucking power as regualar vacuums.
@@MrRoombato Every night it's ok.Because it can keep cleaning demands on minimum. But if you don't swipe for 3-4 days, I think you can't expect to do remarkable job. This robots are great helpers, but if you use it every day, as I said :)
@@arizonad8012 I think that's true for mopping to some extent, but not for vacuuming. They can pick up an impressive sized mess. For mopping, they can only do so much, but if you have them mop every day, eventually they take care of the initial huge mess and then maintain the cleanliness. Of course if your house has an apocalyptic level of dirtiness then that may not be true. :)
Hi, do you know if its possible to buy the Roborock S7 Maxv normal edition and later to upgrade it with the Ultra Docking station? I watched your videos, it looks Like the Ecovacs has no chance vs the roborock. The Mopping is still better on the Roborock. Maybe the Dreame W10 pro is a also a option, but not for the actual price.
@@MrRoombato Hi my friend, i tested the mopping on the turbo today. i think you have wrong moppingholders. contact ecovacs. mine do a good job. Look my video ua-cam.com/video/HSZRixXmpuM/v-deo.html This is coffee (5h). I saw your video that you got this new plates already. But you doesnt maked a new review?
@@SY-sc9gx I did, they sent me three sets of plates. One of them made the water distribution more even and it improved mopping, and that is what I based my review of the X1 OMNI on. The mopping is adequate, but not as good as the competition.
I don't think we can completely forget to vacuum etc ourselves when it comes to spills etc. But for normal dirt robovac will do 90% of the work. Especially in countries where having shoes inside is considered 🤪 😂
Have you had any issues drying the mop and it creating bad smells? I’ve read quite a bit about it being an issue on /r/roborock to the point where it seems like there’s a dryer add on that’s available in China (or thru AliExpress). Havent seen any UA-cam reviewers mention it despite it being somewhat of a common issue it seems. Thanks for the review!
It depends on what it looks like and whether it recognizes it as something to avoid. I have no way to test with puke short of puking on the floor myself, and I'm not gonna do that. :)
One of the huge shortcomings of any online reviewer is that they almost always never discuss long-term ownership experience (recurring costs, maintenance, repairs, performance, customer service experience etc) and after-sales service by the manufacturer during and after warranty periods. If the Review needs an addl. 60 second refresh video to discuss long-term ownership experience say one or two yrs down the lane, then that should be done as well. In my research of robot vacuums, I have not seen any reviewer address these concerns. Yet, the internet is flooded with folks having terrible experience with manufacturers in getting their broken units fixed. $1000 is a boatload of money to only realize that your unit broke after 366 days and then you are left high and dry.
Well, if it helps, I still use this unit daily a year later, and I have no plans to retire it , even after I get the S8 Ultra they just sent me. It's a fantastic robot. The only issue I've had is that it doesn't know when its bag is full and if you let it go past that point then the entire self empty system gets clogged and you have to do a very thorough cleaning. The other issue is that if you combine a lot of dog hair with something else, like pieces of leaves in the fall, the self empty system gets clogged at the elbow near the bag. But then I don't know of any self empty dock that doesn't. Dreame's comes close.
@@MrRoombato Thank you for reviewing my feedback and appreciate your quick response with useful information. I enjoy watching your in-depth reviews. Please continue to do these videos. S8 Ultra appears to be more bang for the buck even with S7 price drop for a few reasons. S8 comes with dual rollers, dual mopping agitators, 3D improved obstacle avoidance (in theory), and a included heating element for drying the mop pads. The dock looks nicer than S7 too with everything concealed. My biggest concerns: Roborock says they respect privacy and have obtained some sort of certification from a third-party known as TUV Rheinland. Never heard of them. In theory, Roborock by way of internet and cloud access has access to our homes, floor plans, people, pets etc. Second issue is long-term - with so many moving parts, if something were to break, do we get parts, service etc. My 10 yr old Miele Canister works awesome. I am not sure if these fancy robot vacuums and mops will last half that time. Again S8 is not cheaper by any means - $1599 retail.
@@GreenTrees1055 I'll try to keep making the vids, but I'm going through some life changes (for the better) and don't have as much time as I used to, hopefully that will change. Thank you for the kind words. As for privacy, I don't assume anything it sees is private. So I don't let it see me doing anything that I wouldn't want anyone to know. That said, it's just a general precaution I live by...same with google home and Alexa. I think that it's about as private as anything else. If someone really wants to, they can get in. Just like your home, your locker at the gym, your car...everything. So I don't worry about it. Long term...Roborock is an industry leader and will probably be around for a long time. Unless we get into an actual war or sanction fiasco with China, we should have parts and service for a very long time.
What do you think about using the iRobot Roomba i3+ Robot Vacuum & the braava m6 mop together? Will it be better than the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, considering that both are made for one specific thing?
Assuming the M6 can move around your house (it usually can't), it's a good mop, but it will require constant attention. Even if you're comfortable with leaving the same dirty pad on it, it will run out of water quickly and you will need to fill up every time you use it (unless you live in a tiny apartment). It also doesn't do as good a job as the S7 MaxV Ultra (although it's close) and takes much longer. The i3 cleans fairly well but takes much much longer and can't clean at night.
I just bought this, but I will need to return it again :( It will not go over any of my doorsteps. They are not even very tall. 1.5 - 2.0 cm. Wish I had known that it doesnt handle doorsteps very well.
Before buying, I searched for Service Centers in Canada and the USS. Did NOT find any. Won't buy until SERVICE equals Dyson, Bosch, Miele, LG, Samsung and the like. BEWARE and investigate.
Your test falls outside the working parameters of the unit according to the user manual. The Roborock S7 is NOT designed to mop up large spills. It is designed to clean dry hard surfaces of dirt, dust, debris. Spinning-head robovacs aren't designed to clean up liquid spills either even if their spinning heads can be somewhat more absorbent (the ones on the market today don't pre-wet their spinning pads). Try to keep tests within operating spec or else the test is moot.
How many end users are going to read operating specs and only send their robots on jobs that conform to those specs? Also, it's good to "torture test" the robot by sending it on jobs beyond its rated capability to see how it would cope. It's not like it breaks down. The worst thing that happens is it doesn't do the best job. And that tells you something about its limitations, which is useful info for consumers. Even Roborock themselves, who sent me this unit for free, didn't complain about that test.
@@MrRoombato I don't necessarily agree. It's like testing the suspension of a car by driving it 200mph on a bumpy road full of potholes just for the sake of "torturing it"... why? Wasn't designed to do that. Real world tests are more informative and honest I think--I don't think it's common practice for people to drop a cup of milk on the floor and then try to wipe it up with a wet swiffer and expect the floor not to be sticky with milk. As for Roborock... I don't know how they operate or if they get involved in these sorts of reviews. On that note, appreciate the effort and content... you actually sold me on buying one... should be here in a few weeks. I WONT be torture testing it lol
@@ShadowPoet I'm glad! You'll love it. As for the tests, driving 200mph at all, when not on a race track, let alone over a bumpy road, is dangerous and dumb. But using an S7 MaxV to clean up wet spills isn't even that horrible an idea. The only thing it had trouble with was the milk, and I think if I'd had it do multiple passes, after cleaning the pads, it would have gotten it. It's not like it hurts the robot. So why not see what it can do? Also, I subject all of my robots to the same tests (or at least close enough) and every other robot did this. It wouldn't be fair not to see how the S7 fared.
I agree with you. Pet waste ill that really counts. As someone with 7 dogs, these things happen! I had my old Viomi smash through it and the floor was easy, it was on tiles, but the robot itself was a disaster! That is why I purchased the beast that was available in country to do that avoidance, the Roomba J7+. I must say that it is very good at avoiding pet waste. Would love to upgrade to this eventually, but sadly it is not available to us. Would have been great as I have mostly tiled floors. The low carpet seems to be an issue with all the rubber roller robots. I only have low profile carpets. My J7 seems to do well collecting the dog hair, but tend to leave a couple of rolls of dog hair on the carpet, which I have to pick up. Cannot figure out why. It collected it, rolled into a hair worm with the rollers, just to kick it out again.
The j7 is the best at avoiding objects, just not the best at navigating around them and getting the most cleaning done. As for low pile carpets, get rid of them! :P
@@MrRoombato Haha send the money and I shall replace them! As for the general cleaning I cannot complain. The J7 may not have the best suction, but it does clean better than m Viomi with much higher suction. I think it is the double brush roll and the dirt detection sensor. Around the chinchilla cages it does not leave a crumb. I am not a fan of vslam, but I had no other options. Once it ran a couple of times and had the map sorted out, the navigation seems to get a lot better, but it does leave a wide space around pet waste, but again, I will rather take the cautious approach than the alternative!
and then lastly, the J7 is incredible with avoiding hair tangles on the rollers. The Viomi has to be detangled just about every day, the I don't even look at the J7 more than once a week.
@@MrRoombato I just purchased the X1 omni with accessories and delivery for £858/$1000. We can't get the roborock from UK retailers at the moment and no sign of it happening soon. I would of rather had the roborock, but that price for the X1 would of swayed me anyway. I have all hard floors, so it should work for me. They're only doing that price for a couple of days though.
Yet, nevertheless, viewers want to see what happens when you try. And similar robots with spinning pads to better in that test. However, overall, this is the best mopping robot.
@@MrRoombato yeah, it makes sense. It's just the result cannot be... stunning. that said, I agree with you: this is a really revolutionary robot and I think the market is going in that direction which is very very interesting for consumers. thanks
Bad results in the first test. What was that white thing. It was messing the whole floor up. I even saw tracks from the wheel in the white dust, when it thought it was done. The Roborock company are not even close to the level of cleaness I search for in a home. Your house looks dirty after you used that one. lol
Which test are you talking about? Wet or dry? Mopping or vacuuming? This robot isn't meant for wet mopping. It does an exceptional job of cleaning overall, except the one low pile door rug, because it's bad on low pile carpeting.
Uh...I'm confused. You can clearly see the pad in the video, and it did not wet the carpet. No more than you breathing on it would. It feels dry seconds after it passes. But it's your money.
At $1500 this better clean inside of the grouting! That base is the biggest eyesore I have seen yet in a robot vacuum, not sure if leaving dirty gross water in a tank to fester is a good idea.... Easy pass for that cost....
Yes, I actually use every robot in my home. It's why I don't typically review budget robots (unless they harass me! ). Thank you for noticing. :)
Your honest reviews are the best! I am waiting for your review of Roborock S8.
I don't know if I'll be able to do one because I can't really make these videos anymore, but get one, it's awesome.
I have the S7 MaxV + since Last week, and this thing is incredible. Huge step from my i7+
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Finally!! What an awesome channel. Been looking for unbiased reviews for ages and came across your channel yesterday. The UA-cam algorithm must be so messed up as you have the best in depth and detailed reviews. Thank you for dedication and sharing.
Thank you! Yes, UA-cam hates me. They want quantity, not quality.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! You are the first person to use this feature! I really appreciate it.
Great review! Seems like DIRT Vader did a great job.
Excellent review! Thank you for giving such a detailed demonstration. It's made it much more difficult to convince myself I don't need (want) a $1400 robot vacuum cleaner. When the ultra bundle is available again, I'm gonna have to bite.
Glad it was helpful!
Did you ever buy it?
I can't find that either, so if you do, please let me know! They may add that in an app update. I hope they do.
@@MrRoombato Thankyou, I really want this, but that price tag makes it a think before buy and really do my homework. Thanks for vid
It's a great idea, I just don't have the time. I hardly have time to make normal videos anymore! :)
Next roborock will be the GOAT
I have a review of the X1 OMNI coming, as well as a battle between it and the Roborock. Will definitely do something with the j7 too.
Agree. iRobot navigation is sub-par - especially the Bravajet - what a joke that navigation is. And yes, iRobot's battery life is pretty bad too.
Great videos
This might be the only video that identifies its poor performance with low pile carpets. This is a big issue especially in U.K. where low pile carpet is most common. Thanks for the fantastic in depth review!
My pleasure!
You must be outside of the US? We don't have that here.
Any opinion about those addons? How do they work in practice?
What a great review!!! So much info I wanted to hear. I have pergondlooring….do you add any cleaning solution or is just water cleaning. Thanks a lot!
Thanks! I now use the Roborock solution in all of my mopping robots.
@@milham975 Thanks!
Great freaking video!! When will you post anew vid on the omni x1? I know it might be coming down the pipe but I'd love to see what you post!

Do you think its worth the extra money?
Great review. Thank you for putting this together. I have a Roomba S9 and couldn't be more disappointed, how do you fell about its performance on carpets? It does do the job? :)
On medium/thick carpet it's great. On low pile it's abysmal.
@@MrRoombato adding this one to my black friday wishlist. Thanks mate
Towards the end of the video did you say this is not good for mopping ? Because I am buying this mainly for mopping and vacuuming daily. I understand we need to deep clean ourselves once in a while. But for regular daily cleaning this should be fine ? Right ?
It's fantastic for mopping. I would never say otherwise.
Hey! Thanks for the review! I bought S7 MaxV and your review really helped to make a decision!
For me it consumes 5% battery to clean 6 sq.m with maximum vacuum and mop.
What battery consumption was it your tests?
I don't test battery consumption. If it goes dead before finishing the floor plan, then I complain about it.
FYI You can now get brushes that have bristles for this machine that will easily pick up hair on low pile rugs
Really? Where? Link?
Update! I have had this machine now for 2 weeks and absolutely love it!
We have a small dog daycare and have mainly hardwood floors, this thing cleans almost every inch.. we do have to clean corners and against the walls but Wow!
It cleans the rest!
We have had others but they were random and went wherever
This one with the mop cleaning and going back where it left off is nothing more than miraculous!
Hi there! Should we use any cleaning product inside the watertank? Thank you so much for your wonderful review!
I'm not sure, to be honest. I use the Roborock solution, which seems to be out of stock, but I never actually tested it to see if there's a noticeable difference between using it and just using water.
@@MrRoombato thanks for your time:) I'll see if I find it at Amazon, here in Portugal there is nothing for Roborock S7:(
Think you can set the frequency on how frequent it will go back to watch the mop so if you know it's very dirty you can just raise the frequency.
Also note that you can set how careful it should be in the app, for example I have set mine to be careful so it makes a small circle around each object.
The carefulness thing must be a new feature...I'll check it out, thanks.
I really like that one of the first tasks for robot developers was a poop detection ai.
You should see what happens when one of these runs into poop. It's...bad.
And thank you!
I've watched a lot of reviews on this vacuum and this one is at the top, nice work. That low pile carpet test might be the deciding factor for me .... Wonder if roborock would consider a bristle brush accessory to just pop in?
They really should. You can get one from one of their other robots (I think it's Q5) that supposedly fits, but I haven't tested it.
@@MrRoombato awesome tip! Looks like someone left a comment on roborock's site that it works. Thanks again, now it's back on the list!! $$$$! Ugh. Lol.
Does the app remind you on when to empty the dustbag or refill the water tank?
It tells you when to refill the tank, but the dust bang thing can't happen because of iRobot's patents. So it used to guess, and now it stopped doing it. Just feel the bag every week when you change the water.
When parts for the q5 are available. I wonder if using the combo brush on the s7 maxv will help with the fine debris. The q5 brush is compatible with the q and s7 series robots
I will test it when I can get it, assuming it fits. Thanks for the heads up.
Great review. Unfortunately, it discouraged me from buying because the main floor I intend to use it has three low pile carpets. Is there any robot you could recommend me that has this other cool features such as vacuuming/mopping with vibration function or am I doomed with no perfect robot for me yet?
Not yet, but Dreame is sending me their version of the "do it all" robot and I have high hopes.
@@MrRoombato impatiently waiting for a review to come out, whats the name of the model?
Is the amount of water during mopping configurable or is it more of a simple deep vs regular clean per run kind of thing?
It's configurable.
Which does a better job at mopping the floor, this one or the x1 omni ?
Definitely the Roborock.
Good review!
I wonder if the dock cleans out all the hair that could've gotten tangled on the brush?
Possibly? I'd have to run it without the dock to test that, and...I'm not gonna do that. :) I need this thing to clean my floors. It alternates days with the X1 OMNI.
@@MrRoombato :) the Ultra dock is cool!
Which dock design do you prefer? The X1 or S7 MaxV?
@@MrBlueCreeper The Roborock's. The Ecovacs' is harder to clean/maintain.
@@MrRoombato I agree. The Roborock one is cooler, more effective, and easier to clean. Which one has better navigation?
@@MrRoombato which has better obstacle avoidance?
It does great in general, but it can leave streaks and lines. As you said, they all do.
@@MrRoombato Thank you! Really appreciate you getting back to me.
I just got it and wondering how to turn on mopping mode? I can’t seem to find on the app??
On the right, towards the bottom, above the "docked" button. It should be in vacuum and mop mode by default.
I was wondering if you have tried a bristle brush in the s7 maxv? Like from the q5 or aftermarket. Does it help on the low pile?
No, I haven't, sorry.
@@xeon2k8 Thanks for answering! I actually did not know that, because I haven't had the need to do it.
What’s the pile height on the “medium pile” carpet?

Can you do a second story without moving the base of the robot?
I believe so, but I'm not sure if it will save the map that way. One way to find out!

Nope. Never had any smells. I've had smells from my wet/dry floor cleaners (e.g. Roborock Dyad), but never from this.
Someday, roborock can already smell and totally avoid poops in whatever form. 😂
A smell sensor is an excellent idea!
On rare occasions our dogs pukes on the floor, because, well.. They're dogs. Will the robot avoid that?
It depends on what it looks like and whether it recognizes it as something to avoid. I have no way to test with puke short of puking on the floor myself, and I'm not gonna do that. :)

Did you contact customer service? They should replace it for you.
Dude you need to call whoever installed your floor back to fix them gaps.
Which gaps are you referring to?
Why I didn't buy this? Low pile carpets.
That's fair. It does suck on them.
I just bought this, but I will need to return it again :( It will not go over any of my doorsteps. They are not even very tall. 1.5 - 2.0 cm. Wish I had known that it doesnt handle doorsteps very well.
That doesn't sound right. Mine climbs all of my thresholds with ease and I have some unusually tall ones.

thank you :)
You're very welcome!
I wonder if someone makes covers for it. The fact that its grey and my (and most peoples) walls are white, is a big miss IMHO.
There's a white version in China. They may bring it to the US.
For the price you would expect better performance on the low pile carpet
I agree. But to play devil's advocate for a moment...if you can afford this thing, you can afford better carpet. :P
Hey. Hows it going? Your getting popular I see👍
Thanks!
Are you still not reading peoples questions and just throwing out answers that make no sense? Or did you learn something?
8:00 or maybe get carpets that s7 ultra can clean, if you can afford the ultra you can also get better carpet :P
My sentiments exactly! :)
@@hansielategan969 Yes, staying far away from pet waste is definitely the better way to go.

Great reviews, very thorough and no nonsense, but you must have some seriously bald cats and dogs after all the tests you do 😉
LOL they keep growing more hair!!
@@fraggit Good luck! I'm sure you'll love it.
you shouldn't use that kind of Robot for mopping liquids. You can only do it when that liquid is dried. this is not a vacuum liquids.
Thanks, you just saved me $1500. I knew it would wet carpet and I'm guessing you didn't add a pad on the medium pile carpet
Uh...I'm confused. You can clearly see the pad in the video, and it did not wet the carpet. No more than you breathing on it would. It feels dry seconds after it passes. But it's your money.
Lol $1000 and it can't even pick up flower 🙄
Nothing is perfect, this is no exception, but it's one of the best all around hard floor cleaners I've tested.
At $1500 this better clean inside of the grouting!
That base is the biggest eyesore I have seen yet in a robot vacuum, not sure if leaving dirty gross water in a tank to fester is a good idea....
Easy pass for that cost....
That's a shame. It's the best robot on the market right now.
