This review is BS! I just bought one after watching this. The S7 MaxV Ultra does NOT pick up nearly ANYTHING on my Berber carpet. I does NOT PICK UP cat fur, it does NOT pick up paper from a cross shredder, does not pick up nearly anything from a carpet. If this was an honest review he would have told us. It ONLY works well on Hardwood or Linoleum floors. Basically this does everything great but Vacuum which is the purpose right? I will be doing a V1d3o soon to so show how this unit DOES NOT VACUUM!

I bought it. I have some things to say about it. First, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this channel. It has helped me with countless buying decisions. I trust the reviews completely. That being said, something is clear to me after buying this vacuum. When you test hundreds of vacuums, even with objective criteria, the overall tone of the review is inevitably affected by how the vacuum performs relative to other vacuums. But when a vacuum costs $1,000-$1,300, a consumer wants to know, in the absolute sense, if the thing is worth it. Is it impressive enough (regardless of other vacuums) to drop the cash? Is the hope of a low-maintenance, clean floor realized? I do not doubt that this is the best robot vacuum on the market. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's worth the cheddar. The next paragraphs are going to sound a bit negative, but know that in the end, I'm keeping it.
    SOFTWARE
Software should be better. Most of what I found wanting wasn't in the hardware, but the software. That's the good news because software can be updated. But at this price point, I was really surprised by the rudimentary mapping features. I know what apps and software can do. They can do much more. Edit: the vision of the bot is amazing and it is dead accurate for positioning...I'm disappointed in the software features attached to it.
It sees rooms that aren't there through sliding glass doors, in mirrors, etc. Well, that's just fine. It's a robot vacuum, not an android. The issue is that there's no way to delete this imaginary room in the mapping. Does this affect cleaning? No, not really. But it does mean that you have to spend a good deal of time adding imaginary walls and nudging them around through trial and error making sure it still cleans the edge of your actual room. Also, it would just feel nice to have the map be an accurate representation of my house rather than the wacky funhouse that shows up on my phone, which bears little resemblance to my actual space.
Sometimes, you forget to move something like a small ottoman and you realize it only as the vacuum is moving around it. Then you move it. Well, since it's going back and forth and can see later that the obstacle has been moved, it should know to go back and pick up the spot it missed. It won't do that.
It has the clearance to fit under the toe kick, but it sees it as an obstacle and won't clean beneath it. This is a bummer. It means I have to sweep where I shouldn't have to.
Obstacle avoidance isn't a substitute for babysitting it. I bought a dumb Rumba from Costco about 5 years ago. This thing had the intelligence of a ping pong ball and I ended up returning it. But I do remember if the brushes encountered ANY resistance, it stopped moving immediately. Well, this one didn't and it nearly destroyed all my floors. Yes, that's right. Thank the Good Lord I was paying attention and could hear that something was not right in time to stop it. I always pick up the house before using it. But sometimes, you just don't see everything. You know those alligator clips? Well, the silver metal arms are detachable and of one of them was on the floor. It picked it up; it got wedged; it started dragging it (pointy end down) and deeply scratching the hardwood floor. If left to its own devices, it would have made a scratch pattern across my entire house that would have looked just like the map! So, I DO NOT run it without supervision, which is very limiting.
The instructions recommend putting a board down to block the top of your stairs so the machine doesn't tumble down the stairs. What? Even Rumba Estupida was smart enough to not fall down the stairs. I suspect this is in the instructions for liability and it would be fine, I mean, I hope so. But then again, have they no confidence in the hardware cameras or their software? What about invisible walls? And what's the liability when someone trips over the board and breaks their neck falling down the stairs?
    HARDWARE
Let's face it: that mop pad is itsy bitsy teeny weeny. It has to be by nature and that's not a miss by the manufacturer. But it means that I am cleaning it SOOOOO often. If you've got hardwood floors, I can really see how the fancy mop dock is necessary. I didn't buy it figuring I could buy it later if I wanted to. I don't know if the machine can detect a dirty pad and go back to the dock to clean the mop pad in the middle of the cleaning cycle, but it should because it's necessary. I doubt it has this capability and you could certainly program around it. But again, if you're dreaming of ultimate automation for $1,300, you're not going to get it. To be clear, it's not that my floors are that dirty, it's that the mop is that tiny.
Because I have mostly hardwood floors, I probably wouldn't bother with the vacuum-bag only dock -- except that I find emptying bagless vacuums an entirely disgusting enterprise. But I seem to be unique in this. If that bugs you and you've got a lot of carpet, I could see the vacuum-emptying dock being useful. But for me with the hardwood floors, the cannister only needs to be emptied every few days where the mop pad needs to be washed multiple times a day. So, it's go big or go home if I want to make this less hands on. I will not be saving any time/energy unless I get the mop-dock.
The mop-lift feature is a GREAT thing. But it ain't perfect. I don't have low-pile carpet, I have a NO-pile carpet. It's a Ruggable with the thicker pad (which really ain't that thick). Once it gets on carpet, there's no problem, it doesn't deposit any wetness. But in the process of climbing up onto the rug, it drags it's tiny dirty mop on the edge of the carpet. At first, I would just tell it to clean that room right after hand-cleaning the mop pad. In this way, at least it would drag a CLEAN mop on my white carpet. But the problem is that there is another room that is only accessible by going through that room and over the rug. So, once it mops the other room, it HAS to drag it's dirty mop over the edge of my rug. So, I've changed tactics. Now, I just uninstall that mop pad entirely and have it clean those two rooms together and the second room just doesn't get mopped ever. I still have to do it by hand. Then, I reinstall it and send it off to the rest of the house. This means hanging around and waiting for it to finish the first 2 rooms and then sending a separate command to do the rest. By the way, I stopped removing pad using the velcro. Now, I just pull out the whole mop deck and wash it still attached. The velcro is very strong and it was ripping the seams of my mop pad after just a few times. I did love the way they anchored the mop pad so that you could get it on perfectly without trying hard. That was a stroke of genius. But alas, it's no longer relevant to me since I don't remove it from the plastic deck anymore.
The mopping feature works decently, understanding the limitations of such a pad. The mop pad does seem to clean dried liquid messes fine. But I have hardwood floors in my kitchen. Sometimes, solid things stick to the floors and turn into dark-gummy-flattened-squished spot. You know what I'm talking about. It won't get those kinds of messes up. So, dried liquid mess is fine. Solid squished mess, no sir. I never had that expectation, so this is not a disappointment, just an FYI.
If the charging dock is on hardwood floors, taping it down is not optional. What happens is the vacuum attempts to mop over the clear plastic sheet attached to the dock and drags it around. It lands on top of an already mopped, wet area. So, rather than protecting your floors from moisture as it is supposed to, it is actually trapping moisture underneath. I've not yet taped mine down, but I am assuming this will fix the problem.
    AM I KEEPING IT?
Yes. I am keeping it. My floors are way cleaner than they used to be. There's plenty of things about it that work really well, but I think that sort of thing was already covered in this video and so I'm not mentioning it. But I am actually putting more time in than I used to. How's that for irony? There's a lot of babysitting and prepping and mop pad changing and manual commands. But without the bot, that effort would not yield as clean of results. The machine cleans and vacuums well. With some software updates (and another $500 for the mopping dock...oi), this thing could be near perfection.

Wow, thank you for the detailed experience and outlining where this bot fell short for your needs. I'll be moving into a mostly hard-floored house but it has a few carpeted rooms and it's good to know that auto-lifting mop might have an issue (but at least there is a work around!).

    • @amythinks
      @amythinks 2 роки тому +1

@@atomicpeach27 I am not sure if carpet would be a problem like a rug. Since the rug is laying on top of the hardwood, it's more of a lopsided climb. Plus there's that rolled edge on a rug that you won't get with a carpet. Also, the transition piece that is installed between carpet and hardwood or tile will probably help. In my home, my carpet is not as different height-wise as the hard floors next to it. I only have carpet upstairs and I've never dragged it upstairs, but now you've got my curious like I want to test this.

I think the S7 MaxV Ultra is Sooo close to perfect. It's an incredible robot. I just wish the pad raised higher for higher pile carpets, as well as a dock heater/fan for the pad to dry out. Just my two cents. Besides that, it's such a fantastic cleaning machine, and their app is just so good, fast and responsive.

Thank you for your reviews, they are very informative! Please consider adding hair vacuuming tests on carpeting and hard floors and possibly comparing Normal vs Max vacuum settings to see if it makes a difference on hair. Various comments from different videos / reviews seem to point to the older style bristle brushes having an advantage over the newer style rubber beaters for vacuuming up hair. Standardized testing like you perform could shed light on the subject.

I couldn't agree more, the S7 Max V is excellent. I bought mine with just the charge base, I might get the ultra dock once it's available but even without that, this bot is excellent. For me, emptying the bin is not a big deal. It would be really interesting to compare the suction power on this bot with the Roomba S9, I bet they're pretty close but Roborock's battery life is much better. I agree with one of the comments that Irobot is falling behind, I have the J7 plus, it's ok, it cleans decent but it doesn't have nearly as much power and Roborock's navigation blows Roomba's camera system away, there is just no comparison. There are a lot of reviews comparing the Roborock S7 Max V with the Ecovacs X1, with the X1, there is apparently an issue with the mop plates and Ecovacs is offering replacements to address that. I wish the X1 was available with just a charge dock, even the cheapest X1 is around $1100 which is quite expensive. Anyway, great review, I think the S7 Max V is one of the best vacuum robots available, it's vacuum performance is excellent, navigation is great and the mop performance is also really good.

Hi, I have a question, they don't sell the Ultra or Plus dock in my country and it won't come here, only the base S7 MaxV is available here with the standart charging dock. Some people say that this robot is actually designed for the Ultra dock, and the dust bin size is small. So is the dust bin really THAT small if i'm not gonna use the Ultra dock ? I can empty it myself every day or every 2 days, but if it's as small as like it can't do the full house, that would be bad. What do you think since you have the base version right now ?

    • @mikearrigo5674
      @mikearrigo5674 2 роки тому +1

@@My.MusicChannel I have not had any issues with the bin getting too full and I clean my entire place every time, the only issue I have had is that the opening for emptying the bin is small so you may have to put your hand in and remove anything that doesn't fall out when you dump the bin, that's usually not a lot though. Even with just the standard charging base, it's one of the best, if not the best robot vacuums available now.

I really love your content! Based of of your information I bought a shark duo clean. It is an absolutely amazing machine. However, after about a year of owning this machine I can smell air pollution when I turn it on.
It would be great if you did some longevity testing. Like, for example, maybe running each vacuum 100 hours outside and measuring how good the complete seals are. I think a lot of manufacturers don't have very good incentives to make sure that these seals last. I think you could have a very large impact in this space.
A lot of people also find the longevity of a machine very important when they purchase it so that would also appeal to them.

Thanks for the great review. I was ready to move on from my S6, which gave great service for 3 years. Looking at the S7 and S8 presented two amazing machines, and choosing the right one depends on your personal needs and budget. I went with the S7 MaxV Ultra and am really blown away. I had to contact Roborock with 2 minor questions and found them very helpful and eager to help. The mapping is so fast and accurate. I only had to bring the vacuum itself to the second floor for very quick mapping. There is a large number of ways to customize your vac/mopping settings, and I'm experimenting with those. I'm emptying/rinsing the dirty water container after every wash to avoid the smell issue. I'm eager to see if adding the Omo cleaning solution promotes the growth of gunk in the water. The self-emptying dust bag feature is extremely loud but not a big issue for me. Overall, at this early stage, it's a winner. Appreciate all the work your videos take and the interesting and helpful comments from viewers.

So the robot does not detect a full dustbin, correct? (The dustbin is the box inside the robot that collects the debris.) The feature "empties dustbin automatically" is confusing. It will only empty the dustbin automatically when the robot is returned to the base. However, the robot will not automatically return to the base when the dustbin is full. So, in essence, if the dustbin is full, the robot may still be operating, but it won't be collecting any debris. Therefore, you have to check it to ensure the dustbin is not full.

Basically you are buying a bag of existing and potential problems from a kickstarter company. Totally the opposite from a top brand like Roborock

I was looking at Nebraska Furniture Mart, but I only recognized 1 robot vacuum from your videos, so I’ll probably just get that one. J7 or J7+.

Once the bin compartment gets full does the Robovac empty the bin at the dock and resume cleaning?

Ah, I really iRobot would reintroduce the Scooba with a base similar to the Ultra Dock. It wasn’t just a “swiffer”, it had a clean + dirty water tank built INSIDE the robot making it much more hygienic and effective. It’s definitely a moonshot for the time being, but current/former Scooba owners know how revolutionary that would be.

    • @xamomax

The Scooba was a fantastic cleaner. I used mine to completely clean oil heater soot from my basement floor. I ran it once, emptied out black water, ran it a few times more, emptying gray water, and eventually the water was clear and the floors were clean enough for white socks, or to eat off of. The electronics on it were terrible and it was always giving me errors, but it was such a better cleaner than the Brava which really just smears stuff around.

@@xamomax A modern day Scooba would be fantastic. I have no issues having a standalone floor cleaning unit if it’s actually cleaning and not merely wiping down the floor. I think people forget that the Scooba also had a vacuum element in the event some particles were missed.
Haha I had a similar experience with oil as well. I almost feel bad using it because it’s in such pristine condition and on top of that, it came with a dozen bottles of the Scooba concentrate.

these vacuum makers might as well make the robots as big and stall as the dock for a wet/dry vacuum system like the Tineco/Xiaomi/dreame. there is little value in having the robot to go under sofas.

This thing will be the "future" the day the prince drop by HALF, because right now this thing cost 1500$
Let's compare to hiring a housekeeper, the average salary for housekeeping is between 10 and 15$ per hour
let's take the max salary 15$ and assume that it take 1h to vacuum and mop the floor of a normal sized house
( only vacuuming and moping, nothing else, like what the robot vacuum offer, and assuming of course that the housekeeper have a good floor cleaner like a 200$ bissell crosswave )
    So 15$ per week, 1500/15 = 100 weeks
So with that much money you can hire someone ( at max salary ) to clean your home for 100 week or 2 years

    • @VacuumWars

That is a pretty low estimate for housekeeping for my area!

How much cfm does it have? Also how does deep clean percent pick up compare to s7

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  2 роки тому +2

I didnt mention the airflow because I was not sure about it. We couldn't get it to register on the top 2 power settings, this is the same thing that happened on the older s7, I assumed there was some peculiarity with its sensors that we were not able to overcome by the usual means we employ when trying to trick it to run while staying still. The other metrics seem to be consistent with it being about the same as other premium Roborocks.

The future is when the dock transforms into a robot and empties the trash into your outside trash bin and refills the water tank reserve too, and replaces the rollers ever 3 months 🤣

Half the fun of having a robot vacuum is watching it dock.
I have a good but basic model, no mapping, no mopping, as that suits me now.
Absolutely love it when it gets to low power at the furthest possible point from docking station 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It gets there 9 out of 10 times. And there are a lot of obstacles. A lot.

hi again, i have troubles deciding: Ultra or Plus?
my point is cleanliness: having the station scrubbing the pad is less hygienic than washing it or replacing it altogether if you have the bucks to splash on single use pads
as for the water, i see no point in a station refilling it since I can do it myself.
