I have carved a couple wood spirits and while they turned out well, the process was never intuitive for me. I consulted UA-cam a lot but when I couldn’t find what I was looking for I was just winging it. Your videos have given me a lot of tips on how to do the eyes which of course is the hardest part! I see that you carve away until you have a half ping pong ball sized lump and then divide and cut in. So helpful! I have a friend brining me a couple chunks of wood so I’m gonna have to give it another go. Thanks for the great videos!
Bob. You are very accomplished at your craft. You appear uncomfortable talking. Thankyou for doing it anyway. Good to know what you use and your process. Thankyou.
Thank you John. Yes, I don't really like listening to my own voice. Definitely not a natural presenter. But I do like to share any bits I've learnt along the way. I hope people find it helpful.
@@robertwilson9746 no problem iam only carving a while still making lots of mistakes got a chain saw the other day haven't used I yet to be honest iam a bit nervous of it
Love this format. I can use all the tips and advice I can get and the music over the chainsaw bits is a brilliant idea. Can I ask, what is the weight difference between a battery saw and a petrol saw?
Thank you Jim. The Echo C2511 wes is quite a bit lighter than the Stihl battery saw. However the battery saw can be used indoors. My work area is well ventilated and I use Aspen fuel which is much cleaner than 2 stroke.
What ever saw you get would be best with a "Dime tip carving bar" Which will probably mean changing the sprocket. These people will be able to sort you out with the right sprocket, chain and bar for your chainsaw. www.chainsawbars.co.uk/
@@robertwilson9746 That's useful. I just sent for a carving bar for my MSA 140 only to find I'd ordered another standard bar by mistake. I think I rushed in thinking I'd found a bargain. Typical Yorkshireman. 😂

He who makes no mistakes, makes nothing. Enjoy your carving and learn something from each one.

@jimbenge9649 if you phone chainsawbars they'll make sure you've got all the right bars, chains and sprockets.
@@robertwilson9746 Thanks for that Bob, I'll give that a try.
Where do you buy wood from. thanks
I was a tree surgeon for years, so plenty of mates with wood around. I generally use conifer which isn't much good for anything else.
No music please!
You can always turn the volume down Gary.
