How to Chainsaw Carve ...
Hi, I'm Bob Wilson.
I've been using chainsaws for over 30 years.
Mainly while hanging in trees (including Buckingham Palace Gardens)
I've been chainsaw carving for about 12 years.
Although not full time.
I'm in the process of turning by hobby into my main source of income.
I'll be sharing my work and some tips with you on this channel. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comments section on any of my videos.
I hope you enjoy my work.

Chainsaw Carving an Owl In A Hole
In this addition I show how to Chainsaw Carve an Owl in a hole.
It's a perfect carve for a beginner to build their confidence. They are also a great seller, and ideal for those who are short of carving material because you can carve it from half a log (or even less).
I also talk about some of the tools I use.
Hopefully you'll find it useful.
Cheers
Bob

Helpful to see the eyes done by hand as well! I can't wait to give it a try.👍
Hope it helps
Beautiful!🤩 Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'll be back to follow along and try this for sure. Appreciate all you do to share what you do, and help others of us learn.✨🙏✨💖✨😊
Excellent carving.
Thanks very much
Looks like a rabbit
@@TAOMMANN oh!
😲😲😲👏👏👏
Thanks for the video Bob! I haven’t joined a chainsaw carving before with two pieces. Nice to see how it’s done. Liked and subscribed 👍
Thanks very much. I hope it helps.
Can't wait to try this, thanks man
No problem. Hope it helps.
I have carved a couple wood spirits and while they turned out well, the process was never intuitive for me. I consulted UA-cam a lot but when I couldn’t find what I was looking for I was just winging it. Your videos have given me a lot of tips on how to do the eyes which of course is the hardest part! I see that you carve away until you have a half ping pong ball sized lump and then divide and cut in. So helpful! I have a friend brining me a couple chunks of wood so I’m gonna have to give it another go. Thanks for the great videos!
I'm glad you find them useful. Good luck.
хороший мишка..,добрый..😊
Great stuff ❤
Thanks very much
Liked watching.😊 It's a cute lil owl, and a fun carve.
Thanks for the video. Your wood spirit turned out great! You mentioned you were using the Chris Woods wood whacker as a sander. I was wondering where might I find one? I was considering the sand o flex, but I really like the design on this one.
Thanks very much. Contact Chris through Facebook.
@@robertwilson9746 thank you👍
how tall is the piece of wood
Only a couple of feet tall
It looks great. Using an old fence post is an interesting idea, although the small space to work with (compared to a wider diameter log) must take a bit of control when cutting. Lovely finish. I like the way you have done his hair. What oil will you finish up with ? Boiled linseed oil ??
Cheers Craig, I'll finish it with a decking oil.
Nice. Just curious, did you carve this for a customer or just for yourself ?
Hi Craig, I do commissions when asked. But otherwise I just carve stuff and then sell to whoever wants to buy it. This one sold really quickly.
Cool bear..Well done!
Thanks very much
Looks very nice.
Thanks very much. I did go back and change the eyes as I wasn't very happy with them. (That's on another UA-cam video)
Bob enjoyed that video, going to give it a try. Your videos are great I'm surprised your not at 10K subscribers yet?
Thanks very much. I'm glad you like my videos. Apparently its pretty standard for only 20% of regular viewers to hit the subscribe button. I don't understand it, but that's how it seems to be. Tell all your friends 😁
Really nice bear, good work!
Thanks very much.
Thank you for sharing. Your videos are very helpful.
Thank you. And thanks for subscribing. Glad you find my videos helpful.
Great piece. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤❤
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great Job on the owl and i also experienced lower battery power when its colder.
Thank you. Yes, it's a real pain.
Good job shir
Thanks very much
Good carving I just found you. I am enjoying your channel, I’m a new carver, just started early this year.
Thank you. Hope you find it useful. What kind of things do you like carving?
I hand carve and just started chainsaw in April. I have done cardinals, a rainbow trout, I just did a striped bass on site 53” tall. I do a lot of bears. I have some stuff posted on my channel. Keep it up I enjoy your work. 😊
Nice !!

i Don 't chainsaw but I like your technique, and a very nice cut
Thank you
I really like the video..would have love to seen all angles..but I love the bear..I might try one myself
Thanks Elizabeth. Sorry you couldn't see it all. Unfortunately I only have two cameras and have to film it all myself. I hope you found it useful.

Thank you
I’ve been wanting to work on some bears.Have done a few bears in a stump and pumpkin.Loved the tutorial and great job of camera positioning to show every angle and cut. Will be doing this bear in the next few days. Thanks and keep up the good work.Subscribed
Cheers mate. I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for subscribing, it really helps.
Wow you did an Awesome job. ❤
Thank you
70 years old and home bound, just scrolling through videos to watch and came across yours. With talent like yours it's easy to tell you are Blessed of the Lord and when you are blessed you don't have to "beg" for subscribers just 'Wait on the Lord' and you will have more than you ever imagined. Keep up the good work.
The ratchet strap is a genius idea. Awesome work!
Cheers. It came from desperation. I had no idea what I was going to carve until I found that split piece of oak. Seemed to do the job.
Yes Bob. The algorithms look at a lot of different data. My approach is if I view a channel it gets a like. Now I have my own channel oldncarvingjohn I will always comment in the positive. If I watch more than twice I subscribe. Love what you do and the spirit. ❤ enjoy the new puppy they are a real joy.
Cheers John. Happy carving.
🌴🌴🌴🌴👍
Beautiful 🥰
Thank you
I like the way carve so that we can what you are doing, enjoyed watching you carve!
Thanks for subscribing Dave. Takes alot of time editing between the cameras to show as much as possible. Glad you like it.
Hello. I am a brand new Carver from Canada. I am wondering what do you use to coat the Bears? It looks like it goes on beautiful. The stuff I’m using is frothy and white and a little bit of a nightmare. It’s like I’m prepping the bear for a shave.
Hi, thanks for subscribing. I use Barrettine Decking Oil. It comes in a variety of shades. I mix it 50/50 with Barrettine wood preserver.
🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴👍
Beautiful!
I love it! Eventually I'll learn to use a chainsaw, but for now it's a Dremel. Great work!
Thank you
Great piece!!❤
Thank you very much.
GoPro view is good 👍💯🙏
Thanks Gary
No music please!
You can always turn the volume down Gary.
As a said just awesome m8 keep doing what you're doing 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks 😁
Brilliant Bob absolutely fantastic
Thanks John.
Hi m8 your carvings are awesome 😊😊
Thanks Ian. I keep trying to improve.
Bob, I'm very impressed with your carving & videos. Especially your ability & precision with the smaller/medium size chainsaw. 🤔I had a minor suggestion for your future videos & maybe if possible your past content as well. ◉During your carving videos like this one as you transition to different Equipment & Tools or change Bits, Burs or Tips etc. You could have a (Pop Up🗯Text) on screen with a detailed or small description of the currently changed Tool or Attachment you switched to. You Can always just stop during the video and say What and why you're switching to that current tool for the first time you use it but then also adds to your overall time on that video. You can also save time by just putting in your description of the video all products and tools used. I thought this might be beneficial for your viewers, i know it would be at least for myself because i'm very new to carving and I'm still learning So it would help a great deal once again bob thank you for your time Your content. Sincerely > Chris Sponaugle aka > icemanWV84
Thanks for your comments Chris. I have covered the kit I use in previous videos. Uploading and editing videos takes several times longer than the carving itself. UA-cam won't give me a penny until I have 1000 subscribers and 10,000 watch hours. I'm considering having separate subscribers content as I alluded to in this video, there are alot of people 80% learning from the content but not subscribing. This makes me slightly hesitant to put all information on one episode. Also if I show every last detail it will stop people from experimenting and developing techniques with different tools for themselves (which is a brilliant feeling when it happens). I think the moon gazing hare video has a few bits about the tools I use. Hope you find it helpful mate.
Another great one Bob,thanks
Thanks Steve
Good job! I do some some chainsaw carving… But I am not a professional carver. Self taught.
I''m self taught too. Thanks for watching.
Bob. Brilliant. Love the way you drew the spirit out of the post. Thankyou for sharing.
Thank you for watching. I've got another Wood Spirit underway from an old piece of Beech. A bit more Chainsaw use on it.
Lovely fairy house Bob, what's the finish you use?, thanks for the videos you put on here, regards John
Thanks John. I use Barrettine Wood Preserver and Barrettine Decking Oil
