kinda crazy to see how many people in these comments think trees are super delicate.... they can survive lightning blasting chunks off them, fires, splits, holes etc... a little shave like this is never going to kill a healthy tree.
Where I used to live, in British Columbia, there was a trail with these scattered all over. It was very nice and whimsical. the bark kind of heals itself and it makes it really look like part of the tree
A follow up video in a few months to see how the tree healed and carving aged would be nice. If all is well, then you earn the title of steely eyed carver guy! Nice work sir!
Came here just to like the video because I assumed the comments would be nothing but bitching about harming the tree. Pleasantly surprised to see the support. I agree, I’d like to see updates on the tree as time passes
Hey Doug, i'm from Germany. You are so good carver , and i see your Videos always. I wish i can see you in my life sometime! Sorry my englisch is not good. By, Eugen
Man, I can watch and listen to your videos for hours! Not only teaching the art of your craft, but in a fun and easy going manner.. You my friend are the Bob Ross of wood sculpting in my book. Here's to many many more years of fine wood sculpting videos to come! All the best.
I've said it about a thousand times Doug you are one highly extremely creative person please for the love of God do not change take care glad to see you got a video out way how busy things can be I understand that videos Don't come easy I haven't made one in a while a long while again take it easy
That’s awesome Doug, makes me want to go get at the tree out front but nowhere near that sort of skill level,so will just enjoy and admire your amazing talent, thanks for sharing.
Now you've started something I'll be out craving all my trees in my yard.😀You've taught me a lot on craver and you're the reason I started. Great job and love your home place👍
Thank you Doug for introducing me to this fantastic hobby! I'm keeping my first five-minute wizard made from a small piece of dry and grainy firewood with a folding pocketknife, so I'll always remember where I started. I'm still not very good, but I'm making one of your bigfoot carvings now!
Beautiful craftsmanship, watching you carving is a pleasure for me. I have so much to still learn. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. Be safe and be careful my friend.
Simply brilliant Dough. In my eyes this is one of your very best. Beside the fact when you scared the hell out of me in the very beginning using the draw knife but once again you had a plan
Love your carving , love your chicken coup ( rather- henhouse) and just love your garden; and the little bridge over the fishpond and the sun dappling through all the greenery create such a feeling of peace and tranquility
Doug you are an awesome mentor because you find new worlds to expand into. This was truly brilliant. You constantly amaze me. Thanks for what you do here.
Glad to see you, Doug. I was worried about you and your family with the weather issues. Sometimes I feel like you're neighbor, a very creative one with a great sense of humor. Thanks for being who you are and sharing a part of your life. Makes mine a lot better. Thanks,
So glad to see you Doug. Been worrying that you might have been affected by the fires.... Loving the wood spirit, think my battery is going to run out on my phone, might have to come back in the morning🤔 😁 Edit: made it! He is fantastic Doug, a true forest guardian. 🧙♂️
So amazing to see it come to fruition! Thank you so much for bringing us along for this lovely creation. Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you and your family. All the best!
Nice sharp chisels, my father would be impressed, he loved sharp blades whether a chisel, plane or pocket knife! Greetings from the Emerald Isle, Ramey.
Outstanding! The detail in the eyes really makes a difference. Don't know how it could be better unless maybe a pipe were coming out and hanging down from his mouth.
My wife and I are working on buying a house right now, and the yard has a bunch of trees in it. I’ve been thinking about doing this sometime in the future, and this video kinda sealed the deal.
I love these wood spirit carvings! There is one in the woods near where I live carved there many years ago, artist unknown. He is gathered much character over the years and makes me smile every time I see it!! Do you ever carve beautiful women wood spirit faces?? I've never seen it done.
Absolutely beautiful! Like a tree from a storybook.... Speaking of, a "cartoonish" tree face would be a cute project some day... Maybe on a tree with a knot to start a bulbus nose :) Wonderful work, as always.
That is nice. First video ive seen of yours. If i could carve that good there wouldn't be a tree around without an old man's face on it. Spirit trees everywhere haha. I love that
I am 71 years old , retired several years now, but I was in the old school sign business before cad. I have hand carved many sign text. This is kinda something new to me, but I have a slew of quality hand tools still.
Beautifully done as always. Using your live tree in your garden is fine by me. You planted it and it's not on the endangered list so I don't see any problem with carving it. You've shown us that you're a responsible person and that you respect the forest so please ignore the nasty idiots. Thank you for sharing.
That is just Beautiful. It is always amazing to watch the character appear as you work on it Doug. The burning is a perfect effect. You are woodland sprite yourself, Doug. You may have lines of folks in front of your house 😺💖
Thanks Doug, I’ve carved 20 or so faces in our dead ash trees. I’m waiting for warmer weather before I find room for any more faces. It’s fun to watch another carver using similar tools on the trees. I like to try to copy the actor Liam Neesons nose for some faces. John Ciccone, Buffalo, New York
AMAZING WORK! You are the Bob Ross of wood carving. Your calming voice, and goofy sense of humor remind me more of him. Thank you for posting your beautiful art. God bless you.
And the neighbors say honey... he's out talking to the trees again lol.Good job brother it looks fantastic.
The Bob Ross of tree carving 💕
Nice beard Doug! If you keep growing it, youll end up as one of your gnomes, with the thing so long it trips you over.
I think Doug might be transcending into the very wizards he creates. He’s just at his humble apprentice stage right now.
kinda crazy to see how many people in these comments think trees are super delicate.... they can survive lightning blasting chunks off them, fires, splits, holes etc... a little shave like this is never going to kill a healthy tree.
I would like to thank you for this video. I carved my first one using this video. I have a lot of practice to do.
Where I used to live, in British Columbia, there was a trail with these scattered all over. It was very nice and whimsical. the bark kind of heals itself and it makes it really look like part of the tree
I wonder how the sculpture ages. Does it deform as the tree grows?
There's something satisfying about traveling with you through one of your projects. Thanks for sharing your creativity, your art.
A follow up video in a few months to see how the tree healed and carving aged would be nice. If all is well, then you earn the title of steely eyed carver guy! Nice work sir!
Yes please
The tree died of sap hemorrhage. Great job.
@@1776adb your mother

Came here just to like the video because I assumed the comments would be nothing but bitching about harming the tree. Pleasantly surprised to see the support. I agree, I’d like to see updates on the tree as time passes
