I used African Violet mix. (A well-draining soil.) If your edges turn brown, it could be from low room humidity, too much direct sun (especially through a window) or under watering. Although leaf wilt is usually the fastest indicator that your plant needs a good soaking! A deep tray filled with 1-2" rocks, with water just below the rocks surface can really help increase the humidity. Just place your plant in the tray, but ensure the bottom of the plant doesn't sit directly in the water!
You can also root the cuttings easily in water. I had a huge Gryphon Begonia that had one long and thick stem which was getting in the way. I cut it back, leaving about 3" exposed above the soil. New leaves sprouted from the old stem in about a month. I cut the remaining stem piece into 5" segments and clustered them in a plastic container to which I added water. (Be sure you note which end is UP on your stem cuttings!) I tried to rinse off the cuttings once every week or so and replaced with fresh water. (Rinse more often in warm climates. Discard or trim off any that start to turn black - check to ensure you had them going in the right direction!) In less than a month all stem segments had rooted really well and were ready to be planted into their own pots. Healthy leaves you trim or accidentally break off can be rooted in water, as well! They will sprout a new plantlet near the roots at the end of the leaf pettiole (leaf stem.) Cut off the new plant and gently put it into a new pot. The original leaf can go back into water and the process will likely happen again! Discard if the leaf starts to look sickly, and try again with another. I've gotten as many as 3 new plants from just one leaf petiole/stem! (The leaf was huge though and the pettiole/stem quite long!) Oh, if your leaves are too big you can always remove the outer edges by about half. That will enable you to place cuttings closer together. For ease with propagating from leaf pettiole/stems, use a glass soda/tea bottle and submerge the tip 1" into the water. Rinse/replace the water if water starts looking cloudy. Be sure you remove it before the baby plant gets too big or it might break as it's removed from the bottle/jar! (c;
@@johnsonengleng hope you make asap before my begonia die 😊 I tried to cut stem and re-plant it but it rot. Maybe my soil was too soggy. Can I use sand in exchange of perlite? Or soil mix w/ coco peat?
