Thank you so much for this video! I've always used soil to propagate my begonias but I saw your video and had to try this out. I used 3 leaves from 3 different begonias and all 3 now have tiny, adorable little leaves and roots growing in the water. I am so enjoying watching them grow 🌱 For anyone else trying this method, don't give up if you don't see any progress at first. My cuttings took a bit longer to root than in the video... patience is key but I've found this to be much quicker than rooting in soil. Thank you again!
There just clearly is something I don't understand!!! I do the exact same (4th try) and they are not making any single root... plenty of shaded sun and in a comfortably warm little corner of my home... I'm just so confused 😕 what am I doing wrong?¿
Thanks so much for this! That baby begonia is so precious. I just got my first begonia rex and am excited to start propagating it, and will try it in water like this. Happily subscribing, I'm glad I found a new plant friend!
Such a cool video! Fantastic to see how different the leaves can react and develop in water propagation. I had no idea begonia Rex could start growing the new plant in so many different locations on the stem! Funny funky colourful plants. Waiting for some to that have been in water a couple of weeks now.
Wonderful!!! Thanks for the video, i was really wondering what's the next step. How do you plant them if there are basically 2 plants? At the bottom and at the top? Do you separate them? And trasfer of the plantlets off water, do they need a high humidity terrarium? Thank you ❤
I tried this method as well as other methods such as cutting the leaf, but all fail miserably...wondering why my leaf in water never grow roots and started to rot. tia
Hi, I tried your method and it worked for my begonia cuttings.. I would like to ask, when is the perfect time to transfer the rooted begonias with baby leaves to soil and how? Because I was told or I read, sorry I forgot, that at some point the cuttings should be transfered to soil or else the roots will become water-roots? Is this true? Thank you in advanced!
Hi, i always transfer my cuttings when I have either 6-8 inch's of roots. Or in in plants like these, a cluster of roots with 3 or 4 shoots . If you can't get shoots, go for a cluster of roots . I hope this helps and that your cuttings are doing well.
What do you with the grown leaves under water? Do you trim them out? Or do they get dissolved over time before the white roots come out? I need to know please. I happened to buy the red leaves begonia in a small pot from the store and I'd love give it a try in the water to have brand new home based plant. 😊
IP Simamora hi there! I change the water onece a week and still I don’t plant the newborns in soil. I hope Can plant the babies when they reach a month old. I try to update another video after planting them in soil.
@@lushgarden679 thank you for this video. Also would be nice to see babies again, when they spent a month in a soil too. I wonder how they will adopt to a new life style.
I want to know too. Do you just bury these new leaf offshoots? I had a beautiful root ball with some baby leaves and transplanted to soil and it died within a day ☹️. I want to know what I should have done differently!
Thank you for the video. I've rescued a begonia rex that was in very bad condition, and now it's just as good and gorgeous as a new plant. seeing this video makes me want to propegate the plant. Do you remove the baby leaves that grow under water and plant the roots in the soil?
My begonia leaf snapped about 10cm bellow the leaf on the petiole, it’s not much or even the majority of the stem, should I even bother trying to grow it in water? Or will it just die? This is my first begonia I’m used to the philodendron species, but I loved the spiral foliage, tho when I brought it home the petioles became so floppy and aren’t standing up on their own? Idk what to do ;-;
Hi You can try with soil propagation method. I’ve uploaded a video on soil propagation method too. But I’m not sure about the results of that propagation if leaves are immature but you just try.
I have kept my begonia cuttings in water for more than 10 days. Tell me what you did cause I’m propagating 5 different kinds of begonias. Did you just leave it in the bottle? Is there a light source that your using? I’m fascinated on your cuttings showing you those results 😲
DECLASSIFIED15 hi I provided bright indirect light (I kept them in window side which is facing west) and I don’t use any chemicals just left with water. Another point I want to mention that I chose healthy leaves with whole stems. I hope that I’ve answered to your doubts. Thank you! Have a great day
I tried this but the stems just turned from red to a translucent yellow, what did I do wrong?i thought they were going bad to I snipped the stems and propagated again in another water bottle.
I can’t get my grown begonia to look good 😩 The leaves are shriveled at the edges and are all broken apart. I think the culprit is the humidity, but even with a humidifier next to my plant it looks terrible. I think I might try propagating a leaf and growing a whole new plant in a terrarium?
The same thing is happening to me, I live in Lima really close to ocean, and the humidity is unhealthy for me and my begonia cause she got fungus decease, so I used a dehumidifier but new leaves starting to grow wrinkled and the soil dried more often. A friend advice to me yesterday to give her water every 10 days even soil gets dry, give her balanced nutrients (NKP) 22-22-22 and keep antifungus treatment just for precaution. Still no info is dehumidifier is the cause so I decided to use it just 30 to 45min per night only. I hope this might help you. Btw Tool band and Junji Ito are the reasons why I love this type of begonia 🐚
Wow. So far iv seen laying leaves flat atop soil. Leaf stems like this one. And stem cuttings. Lol. I'm about to torture my single stem with all 3 methods. Wish me luck
I wonder whether they gave something in the water because iv tried water propagation and it's been 1 month 1 week and now only small roots are coming out
I have a question. So since begonias don't really need a node for propagation, can you just cut off the piece from the bottom and stick the motherplant back into water and pot the baby up? So that way you can have as many babies as you want. Is that possible?
Idk but that could be really stressful for a grown up begonia rex, they're really sensitive to abrupt changes. I tried what you mention with my avocado baby plant because on soil stopped growing as fast as was, when I checked the roots, a lot of healthy ones got sick despite soil never got that watery and the pot had good drainage

@@lavenderpurp6610 hi I just used the water
@@lavenderpurp6610it's a good idea to change the water every few days to stop the fuzzy mould and algae from growing

Do you eventually pot it in soil or just keep it in water? 🤔

Do ypu add any fertilizers to the water
Then it stays always in water?
How long do the roots have to be to plant it in soil?
Nice video and thank you for sharing by the way.
Thanks for the video. First time I m knowing this method 🤗this will helpful to me a lot..

is it just a water or do you add rooting solution? how many days will i change the water?
Why no one answered these question😁is it pure water?
Do you put them in soil after you see roots growing?
what do you put in your water? do you change it daily?

That could be due to overwatering or chlorinated water. Soil needs air and well as water.
