What interview is this? I’d love to listen to the whole thing
It’s from the FA podcast featuring Louis :)
FA = Fresh Air, an NPR program, hosted by the awesome Terry Gross.
@@rockstrong4342 I thought that was Terry Gross, I just couldn’t remember her name, all I could remember was Dave Davies her fill-in
I was gonna say it was Megan chacavardy (definitely spelled wrong)
Anyone have a link to the full interview, Iam having Trouble finding it
Man Terry Gross is really really good interviewing Louis here. Really opening him up and setting him up for these stories with simple but to the point questions.
She thinks she reads books but she doesn’t read books like Gene Simmons
I’m always fascinated listening to Louis share his thoughts, and the nucleus of his process and outlook. “It’s hard to be sad and useful at the same time”
he is so profound. every time he went on conan he would just drop this unbelievable philosophical outlook on life, layered with jokes. i love him
Every interview I hear with him.. some little nugget of excellent truth falls out... This one hit me too!
Powerful demonstration of the admonition by Marshall Rosenberg: “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”
Exactly what came to my mind too.
All the sudden I want a Louis CK autobiography.
*All of a sudden
“It’s funny when someone becomes an agent of your life for a minute” that’s a great quote
This is amazing! Louis is actually a really intelligent, sensitive guy. And the interviewer is fantastic too
Louie is a comedic genius. He’s almost a genre unto himself. A once in a generation talent who likes to beat off in front of women backstage in comedy clubs.
God bless him
He really is the sitting king
He’s hilarious man, a true genius. I don’t give any shits about his whole jerking off thing. He is still a good person!! And his opinions are necessary for the world.
Absolutely nothing wrong with this comment. I got kicked out of a comedy club for whacking off backstage. But since I’m not a comic, the comedy club was totally in the right.
@@curtismcdonald6838 lmfao 🤣
Isn't it crazy that those drinking adults watched him prb thought wtf, forgot about him immediately, and then he became one of the biggest comedians ever!
He's a guru. Intelligent and wise. He's right. Now that I'm an empty nester, no longer focusing on raising my son, I'm miserable! Louis is my new spiritual master.
So your son died or...?
Did your son die of leukemia?
@@stipitza "Hey, you're an empty nester!!!"
Leave it to Louis to give some great sage advice.... "It's hard to be sad and useful at the same time"... GOLD!
Thank you for this interview!
"No, U Turn"
"Drive Slow, Children.'
😂
If you’ve seen his earlier material, you know he wasn’t very funny. Now he’s arguably
the greatest comedian of all time.
Thank you! Whenever I say anything like that I get piled on by butthurt fans but it's SO true. Even when Louis was on talk shows early in his career I would never place him as a top 20 comedian. The last 12-15 years? Completely different story - #1.
Spot on. It's much easier to be happy by making others happy than it is to be happy by trying to make yourself happy...
This man noticed a demand and he filled it. Well done. I will binge the hell out of this channel. But I could see Louis claiming it. He’s pretty internet savvy.
savvy enough to know the power of word of mouth!
I have heard many people do interviews and Terry is by far the most adept at getting people to really open up and tell their stories.
There's something about hearing a master of a craft tell stories of how they began. Gives a reality check to new people and hope!
Louis and Terry Gross!!! awesome content
There is no comedian in history that started off sucking as much as Louis CK did and ended up being as great as he is now. His growth over the years is crazy. He really wasnt funny when he started and has become one of the greatest comedians of all time.
So there's still hope for Rogan, then.
@@portlandsamber nope. Rogan will never be funny lmao. I do love him as a podcaster though. He is great in that aspect, but he has delusions of grandeur when it comes to his comedy.
He was pretty funny at being ridiculous
Comedy was completely different back then. He was pretty funny for just starting out. But, his natural talent for performance is what really set him apart
I mean Dave Chappelle talks about how he was booed off stage the first time he tried stand-up as a teen.
I dabbled in Stand-Up comedy before I was a professional musician & during my first professionally paid comedy show, I ripped off part of Louis' "$20 in my bank account" bit & completely bombed. I did so bad that the rest of the comedians on that show made fun of me for the rest of the night.
I ended up getting completely drunk and interrupted the show and took it to a completely different direction and shocked the hell out of everyone.
My mom, dad & girlfriend were in the audience and left out of embarrassment - I didn't make any jokes about them, but my drunken off-color rant caused them to walk out, my girlfriend broke up with me a few weeks later and my parents were so mad at me that they wouldn't let participate in any family holiday get-togethers for 2 years.
Stand-Up is EXTREMELY difficult to do because all the focus is on YOU and only you for 5 minutes. You need to be on point and not piss off or offend anyone. I couldn't do it in this day in age, because I would get canceled immediately! 💯
Sweeney and Meaney night would have been amazing.
Both of those guys have jokes I heard when I was probably like 7 years old, that still make me laugh today. Steve Sweeney's 'Park the car in Harvard yard' joke, and Kevin Meaney's 'Larry Hagman liver and onions' joke are both f---ing classic.
I was curious so I looked and looked, but can't seem to find these two bits you mentioned. Do you have a link, or know if they'e part of a special?
@@TigerGreene if you search "Steve Sweeney early standup evening at the improv", it's just a minute or 2 into that set.
And for the Meaney one, I can't find the live set I saw back in the day, but there's a comedy album "that ain't right live in Battle Creek, MI" that has a version of the liver transplant joke, that's an earlier less polished version of what I remember. Still good though, I'd listen to the whole album to get to the bit, because he's kind of a call back master, and his mom impression is a through line that's part of the joke.
"What would you do if Larry Hagman was in the audience, huh smart guy?!" 😀 That was killer.
Keeper of the Flame, 1942. starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, directed by George Cukor.
I'm a new to standup, used it as a confessional in the very beginning. I thought it was what i was supposed to do!
What an absolute insight into the human condition. Fear, Comedy, Priority, Vulnerability, Tragedy, Meaning.. things you won’t hear your school or government mention. You’ll hear it from a man that’s sole job is to make others laugh and think.
great closing comments about parenting
(9:16) Great peice of motivational advice.
Lmao talks about enjoying sexual confessions. Little did he know how hard that would haunt him
Love this!
That's a legit dopamine rush when you get people to laugh hysterically
Kevin Meaney was awesome! RIP.
Louie how rewarding it is to be parent to a liberal woman in her 50's who never had kids because she put her career before a family... just made my day. You can tell she's a little miffed by his comments.
Cough* humiliation fetish * cough
Well, you should have mentioned this is Fresh Air. I'm gonna look for the full thing on NPR.
It’s in the pinned comment!
lol humble beginnings really,
what spencer tracy movie is he talking about at 9:17 ?
Kevin Meaney was insane. Loved him. His mother was right- he's "LIKE A CRAZY PERSON!" 😀
5:42
5:02 - people pleasing is seductive
Louie is dead on about life not being about you being a better life.
Anyone know what Spencer Tracy movie Louis was talking about?
I Take This Woman
wow, Terry Gross
Where’s the full interview
It's awesome how every TRUE professional has this experience, not just comedy either, I'm a chef and I've told students the reason I'm where I'm at today is because I've failed soooo many times there was nowhere left to go but up...
Everyone sucks at anything they first start doing. The key is to be stubborn and keep going knowing you're gonna get hurt. That's bravery. A REAL loser doesn't even fucking try.
What podcast is this?
I might have been at Stitches that night.
Hey Lou. Another more famous guy also said something similar like that Spencer fella in I take this woman ( btw that's the movie he's talking about) anyway that fella said the work will set you free. He was a painter or something.
I’m Not Louis
Oof. That was a Norm-level Hitler joke
What podcast is this from? Has a desert island disk vibe
Terry Gross. Fresh Air. Not a podcast. She’s been doing interviews since long before podcasting.
His name is meanie
The greatest thing about having a child is that you’re not the most important thing in your life.
Terry Gross: why is that a good thing?
(She legitimately sounded like she had no idea what he meant)
She’s interviewing him. She’s doing her job.
I think Kevin meaney helped him out there. Rip
Have you guys looked into zodiac signs? it’s crazy how Louie is a virgo with mars in sagittarius, & you can hear it
Terri Gross used to have one of the best Louis CK stories ever! But now it’s not even in the top 10,000…
To be or not to be that is the question.
Change the name to IM NOT LOUIE
Yeah my life lacks purposs, i never had a child like loui did. So everytime i work i think what the fuck am i breaking my back for. I dont need to be doing this for myself. I dont care about myself i care about other people. If your working to make your kids smile you do it as a man. If not your just pissing into the wind
Stolen clips.
I'll steal your clips
Welcome to the internets, old man.
@@SKa-tt9nm Yeah, if everyone does it, it must be ok then.
The tacos are the best
Louis ck likes humiliation that's how he got back on stage and then become the master comedian he is to this day
So one of the guys down below is Schrodinger's cat talking about Schrodinger's cat is really fascinating but it's too complex to do here and it's not funny. The following isn't really funny either it's just that I was looking at his name and I was thinking why did Schrodinger have to pick a cat? Couldn't he have gotten himself a little bit bigger box and and made it a pig? Schrodinger's pig. Of course you'd have to find yourself a little bit more U235 cost more money. But I mean when you open the box and you find the dead pig, you could eat the pig. And then, you know, either way it it wouldn't be a failed experiment. In fact I think I might be a little bit disappointed to open box and find out that the pig is still alive. I suppose you could just kill it.
Have you ever noticed that if you're using the microphone to write these things down if you speak too fast or don't enunciate the microphone thingy can't really keep up with you accurately and you have to go back over it and correct all the gobbledygook crap that is coming out of the microphones tiny little brain this isn't one of them cuz I'm speaking really slowly look it just said cuz cuz that's what I said I really meant because hey this is fun sometime I'm going to speak really fast and then just leave up the nonsense that follows
My cat's breath smells like cat food.
Ug, NPR, blech. Yay, Louis!
Is this the same people as I'm Not Norm?
Weird sexual stories? Like what?
🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇲
Is louis dying soon? 😒
I know Norm had similar channel called "I'm Not Norm" and in couple of years he passed away 🤔
I’m Not Norm isn’t Norm, lol. Didn’t know anyone believed that.
Louis always rubs everyone the wrong way
I'm sorry are we all ignoring the fact he's a pr€ditor & committed sa
Stop exaggerating. He never physically touched anyone, so how is that assault? You're putting him in the same category as Harvey Weinstein
Loved CK but looking back there's clearly something off about him now sorry.
