the way Louis was letting the dam break near the end. you can tell how hard George's death hit him. Carlin is truly a legend, and Louis' speech was perfect
I am not the type of person to get upset over celebrity deaths. But I will never forget, I was sitting in the lobby waiting to get brought in for a job interview when I read on my blackberry that George had died. I had to hold back the tears. I am of course not a comedian, but George helped me, more than any other public figure, see the world a different way. Theres probably no single person who taught me more about critical thinking than he did with comical analysis of society. I truly hope his words live on and that younger generations take the time to listen to even a small bit of what he put out there.
Similar to what Morm McDonald said..‘It’s one thing to make people laugh, but a whole other thing to make them smile’. Louis just took that to another level here..
Louis CK, off of the stage, can be an incredibly moving individual with a beautiful soul. The contrast between who he is in person and who he is on stage is bewildering, and I respect his art so much more because of it.
Wow. In AA they say that in the rooms is the only place you will find people sharing deeply and authentically from the heart but it just dawned on me the extent that comedians do that to. Comedians are the true warriors breaking down barriers and telling the hardest truths helping us all to be ourselves and be okay with all of our flaws and Louis does that more so in my opinion than anyone and now I know why. This is the first time Louis has made me cry!
I didn't listen to Louis for the longest time. The reason why was because I was listening to George. I grew up on George and nobody was going to replace him at the top rung. I knew of Louis, but somehow he eluded my ears for a long time. Then when George died in '09, and I was crushed as we all were, I was at my friend's house and played me a bit from Louis, and I can't remember what bit it was,, but I laughed so hard I cried. And at that moment, Louis became the next George for me. He didnt replace George, nobody could do that. But it was clear to me that Louis would be filling that hole in my soul that needed to be populated for me to remain sane in an insane, and at that time, very lonely world. Thank you for working so hard, Louis, to be there when the world, and I, needed a guy just like you. You deserve every accolade you will undoubtedly receive. Your work is absolutely brilliant magic.
I love how Louie mentions that he's "pretty sure" Dick Cheney isn't a lizard. If you don't know... He once asked Dick (several times lol) during a phone call interview on the Opie and Anthony radio program "Are you a lizard"... and no matter what he said, Cheney would not deny that he was, in fact, a lizard-person posing as a human being. It's really worth a listen (available somewhere on YT) if you've never heard it.
He asked Donald Rumsfeld on O&A. However David Icke, the guy who started the lizard people conspiracy theory, has also accused Dick Cheney of being a lizard.
Also, Louie said he was pretty sure the guy who looked like Dick Cheney wasn’t a lizard, because he looked like a nice version of Dick Cheney. Louie was still implying that Dick Cheney is a lizard person.
My parents playing Carlin in the car on tape and limewire lol both shaped my childhood and teens. Also Carlin on Mr. Rodgers but that doesn’t count much 😂. Between him, Prior, and Murphy, growing up in the 90s was awesome 👏. Got to see Chris Rock, early Chapelle, Kings of comedy. So many legends!!
I grew up watching Carlin on Shining Time Station/Thomas the Tank Engine. Wasn't until I was 16 or so and getting into Carlins comedy that I went "Holy shit that's the guy from Thomas!!"
The best thing about new material is you don’t happen to come across the same material which is unwatchable to me. The same comedian a different city the same material, same reactions same performance it’s awful lol
It's a big disingenuous for Louis to say he was an unsuccessful standup for 15 years without mentioning that he had some really big writing gigs in there (SNL, Conan, movies, etc.)
I mean your definition of standup is wrong. Being a successful comedy writer or comedic actor doesn’t necessarily mean your a successful standup comedian. It’s not disingenuous
Not at all. They are two completely different jobs. Writing skits is way different than performing live, and most of the people who are successful at one are terrible at the other tbh.
Honestly usually succesful people are way to critikal of their past self, but honestly I checked out Louis' early stand up and to my surprise actually really sucked, which is quite inspiring as that means one can achieve greatness with enough practice.
@@terminalfilms8074 I got I started doing right out of high school started doing stand-ups didn't go to college didn't pursue anything else professionally really I started doing stand up first time I went on stage I did a minute and a half and I bombed it was terrible but I wanted it so badly that I kept trying and I learned how to write jokes and I just had jokes kind of funny thoughts and I about I don't know 15 years later The idea here is that he's presenting a story like he was just this down out of his luck guy who had zero success, then one day 15 years later he mattered that's the vibe of what he's saying. Now, ignoring the vibe, being purely technical, are you correct? Sure. But, if you take in account the vibe my original statement stands: He's being a bit disingenuous here to his actual history, which being funny involves stretching the truth all the time so this isn't totally out of this world wacko he would do this, it's just a bit out of place for someone who just died and he supposedly respects forever.
"Getting big" is subjective only to the artist in question. Your opinion on when some one makes it "big" doesn't really matter. It does suggest that you claim some sort of delusional ownership over the artist and his work, which you might think about keeping in check, considering you've contributed nothing to their career.....
That is difficult. You work for years putting together an hour routine. Just to scrap it and write new material for the next year How does one learn or figure out how to come up with or write new material? This is my struggle as I am only good at doing my own version of other people's jokes. I'd like to become a writer and create my own material.

Ah man, Louis has made me laugh so many times. I never thought he'd make me cry. What an absolutely beautiful tribute.
Similar to what Morm McDonald said..‘It’s one thing to make people laugh, but a whole other thing to make them smile’. Louis just took that to another level here..
Louis changed my life, made me realize you can be honest about how you feel and it can be pretty funny even if you are jaded and miserable
Louis is one of my heroes for the same reason.
Louis CK, off of the stage, can be an incredibly moving individual with a beautiful soul. The contrast between who he is in person and who he is on stage is bewildering, and I respect his art so much more because of it.
well said
I fucking love both of these men! RIP George - much love to Louis
The two masters of illustrating and dissecting the pure comedy of all the tragedies in life

Louie is a gifted speaker.
The 2 greatest comics. (George is #1)
Louie is this generations Carlin
George Carlin and Norm MacDonald were the only 2 celebrity deaths that made me cry. Felt like close family had passed.
Some of the best humans
We used to drop acid and watch his 1986 special where he's totally coked up. And, it is by far his funniest special!
There's actually a video of this on YT, it's paints better picture of how he actually feels while speaking
I love how Louie mentions that he's "pretty sure" Dick Cheney isn't a lizard.

@@KarldeRavin You're right thanks. I always think of them as the same person lol.
It was Rumsfeld not Cheney.
Btw, this was done after George's death and he was part of a group of comedians and people who knew him who talked about what he meant to them.
Carlin the true 🐐
Absolutely great Louis

Limewire was kind of awful though. I would be downloading cartoons and click play just to see a girl putting a football inside her.
Some might say that’s what was great about limewire though
I grew up watching Carlin on Shining Time Station/Thomas the Tank Engine. Wasn't until I was 16 or so and getting into Carlins comedy that I went "Holy shit that's the guy from Thomas!!"
Love this
fuck I didn't know louie could make me cry
What a ball washing that was🙄😂🤣😋
I never cried while listening to Louis before. Ffs. ❤
Two great comics
Remember when Louis was "cancelled" and non-Louie people didn't understand stand why we let him back in with a hug?
Straight from that gut there louie
Like George, but with today's issues. Keep the jokes coming!
We believe you I've heard "vintage" Louis CK and garbage is a nice way to describe it 😂😂😂
Seriously late 80s early 90s could've been saved for the eulogy
Carlin was great on Lamb Chops Play Along
The best thing about new material is you don’t happen to come across the same material which is unwatchable to me. The same comedian a different city the same material, same reactions same performance it’s awful lol
Anyone who lives in Massachusetts and owns a television knows that Kowloon is known for stand up comedy
Why is the audience laughing so hard at things that aren't joke? I mean that literally. It almost sounds fake.
Because we can laugh for many reasons.
This is the example of how men should cry. Stifle it, acknowledge it, be a bit embarrassed about it, and then push on.
Hehdjdjf
He was a great speaker but honestly I never found him funny
That’s because your sense of humor sucks
It's a big disingenuous for Louis to say he was an unsuccessful standup for 15 years without mentioning that he had some really big writing gigs in there (SNL, Conan, movies, etc.)

Why did Louis' tears smell like lotion?
These are dolphin jokes people

I’ve been to that Chinese restaurant. Say David spade their and he was high on pills
Of course he was.
