Panama to Costa Rica on a Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer - Ep. 24

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- This episode documents a period of a week or so cruising between Panama City and Golfito Costa Rica.
We stayed in Flamenco Marina in Panama City for a couple of days while we provisioned and did some work on our boat, a night in Vista Mar Marina outside Panama City, then several remote anchorages as we moved towards Costa Rica.
We entered Costa Rica in Golfito, where we prepare to check into the country and spend a few weeks exploring.

Whats not to like about this video.. good solid content nice editing and lovely family
Not a lot of young kids appreciate a sunset. She gets it. Wonderful..
Great job Dad. Well on the way to raising a thoughtful responsible young lady. Great video.
Looks like you had some wonderful father/daughter time. Cheers!
What a wonderful life experience for Cassidy. Enjoy Golfito.
Just love your new videographer. She handles the camera extremely well.
Oh my gosh!! That sunset! Stunning!
Praying for your safe journey.
Cassidy, you are such a goofball!! love the video.
It's so amazing all the wonderful experiences Cassidy is having and will have in the future. Not to mention the great father/daughter bonding time. Glad to see you guys enjoying the new boat. Looking forward to catching up with you when you have time.
David gracias 😀♿
Looks like y'all had a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Awesomeness all around 😎
Great video 👍. Adventure continues
Nice. Glad you enjoyed Vista Mar.
Wonderful face at the end... Well done
Best part it was with dad
I love your videos. You have a great style.
Nice i really enjoyed i just love that boat 😊
I have also done father daughter crusing with a daughter of similar age and it is great. I have to say, each to their own, but I would NEVER leave the cockpit even in glass water without a harness. One misstep and you are in the drink with a kid alone on a vessel underway. I say that as someone on a similarly sized boat to yours. I too had super secure lifelines and even netting. Imagine the trauma to a kid watching dad disappear into the wake and no real ability to do anything until they hit something, or figure out how to put the boat in neutral (which, by the way, was a constant skill we drilled). Just something to think about.
libertastoo2 - someone else pointed that out as well and I will give a similar response - after posting the video I was wondering if someone would point it out that I wasn't clipped in on deck. In my defense I can say it was a flat day with no wind and the rails on our foredeck are super secure and high. But in hindsight I definitely should have been clipped in, effectively singlehanding. Cassidy does know how to put the boat in neutral and we have practiced it too.
Love it !!
How wonderful you get to experience this with your daughter. Love the combination motor and sail. Gives you options..... What are the wheel looking thing next to the dingy engine. Smooth sailing.
The wheels are for beach landings. They can be flipped down so that they are underwater and then as you approach a beach, the outboard is turned off and flipped up and you coast in to shore. The wheels make it so the dinghy can be dragged up onto the beach above high water.
That’s clever.
In the flag changing part, the video show Cassidy wearing a harness and attached to the boat. You are not wearing one. Is she capable of taking control of the boat and coming back for you?
+Stephen Anderson - that’s a good observation and a fair comment. After I put up that clip I was wondering if someone might comment about it. It was a flat calm day wirh no wind - but I should have probably been clipped in effectively single handing the boat. And Cassidy does know how to at least stop the boat. But I will admit being clipped in on deck would have been way smarter than not.
How oldies your boat? That cockpit roof lining seems to be separating from the insulting layer. Love the lifestyle 👍👍👍 Ok, just watched further and saw your comment on the head liner 🤪
She was built in 2010.
So adorable young lady
Who is playing the very cool blues as your background soundtrack? Keep the stories coming, they are delightful.
Looks like you have an issue with the ceiling finish?
Yes. It’s funny - because I actually mentioned that in a a few videos. It jut gave me an idea for a how-ro this video when We fix the headliner. Thanks!
Hope to see more videos of your adventures!
Edit: How much fuel do you carry?
Judd_S - We carry 820 gallons of diesel in 3 tanks and usually about 15-20 gallons of gasoline for the tender.
Could you imagine the fuel bill for the Aurora?
She carries 17,500 gallons. Thats a lot of fuel!!
*Sailing Uma* is a great UA-cam channel to check out as far as sailing life goes imo and if you haven't heard of them already.
Like their channel a lot.
At this point did you have any regrets choosing this boat?
been a while....
Whats wrong with the ceiling?
How often do u use the sails? Overall was it the right decision to have a boat with sails? Would u choose a motor sailor again over a pure power or pure sailer?
A lot of the time that we were in Central America there wasn’t enough wind to even fill the sails to stabilize the boat. We try to put them up whenever the apparent wind is over 10 knots and oven if going up wind the sails stabilize the boat and help with fuel burn.
For long distance cruising we think it’s a great boat - but don’t have enough experience sailing without the engine on yet because the wind was well forward of the beam (or not blowing) almost the entire trip from Florida to Mexico.
Nice video, I enjoyed it. I don't know what is gained by talking unusually fast. I would enjoy it more if you talked normally.
Why is it provisioning. You’re grocery shopping.
You speak sooo quick. It's not easy to follow
