Selling our Nordhavn 40 Passagemaker - Nordhavn 40 M/V Cassidy, Ep. 18

  • This episode shows the final chapter of our adventures aboard our Nordhavn 40, M/V Cassidy. After almost 2 years and over 5,000 nautical miles not he boat, we decided to put her up for sale and move to another boat. Spoiler alert: its another Nordhavn!
    Not a whole lot of action in this episode but we discuss the process of selling the boat, show some of the survey that the buyer had done as part of the due diligence of purchasing our boat, and a glimpse into all of the packing and moving that we are still doing as we transition to the next boat.
    Watch to the end for a glimpse at our new boat, which we will soon be cruising on from Florida towards the Panama Canal and Mexico.
    Cassidy (the kid) decided that she didn’t want the new boat named after her so we shall have to make some decisions about what to do with the name of this channel as we start making episodes aboard our new boat. We may try to poll the viewers for assistance with this!
    It’s been a fun ride so far and we are looking forward to continuing to explore the world on our amazing new boat.

    lived aboard a 130' Ketch as engineer/ manager. Sailing will save on fuel. Mast, rigging and sails are a maintenance factor.

    • @CassidysSailingTrawler
      @CassidysSailingTrawler  5 років тому

      FlyCaster - point well taken about the rigging and sails being a maintenance factor. For us the decision to go with the motorsailer was more based on the incredible range the sails can provide plus true alternate/redundant propulsion. The wing engines are nice to think about but I don’t think I’d enjoy trying to limp in on one from the middle of the Pacific.

    I got a big, happy smile on my face when my phone gave me a notification that M/V Cassidy uploaded a new video. I enjoy how you include Cassidy (your daughter) in the production process. Having her use the camera to capture Mom and Dad offloaded items is heartwarming. Thank you for sharing a peek into your wonderful families adventure.
    Congratuatliulsn on the sale of Cassidy (the boat) and pending purchase of the Nordhavn MS56 “Ata Marie.” I was secretly hoping you would end up with the Nordhavn N120 Aurora, because that would make a awesome platform for your UA-cam videos, but I get that its hard to find parking spaces/slips for a boat that size.
    Question for you. Although the timing is poor due to your boat sale, moving, and purchase, were you able to submit a video to Nordhavn for their film festival?
    Looking forward to your next video as your adventure continues.
    PS: After viewing 5:45 to 5:57 in your video, my grandson asked me why I was laughing. I explained how you said you were not use to driving a huge vehicle like this, referring to the pickup truck, when you drive your boat which is much bigger. We chuckled together because his father and I frequently operate much larger equipment for work.
    This lead to us having a conversation about the concept of perspective and familiarity. Then, remaining relevant to the topic, he asked me if you could relay a silly question / joke to Cassidy. He asked if you could ask Cassidy this question: What did the snail say when it went for a ride on the back of the turtle? Answer: Wheeeeeee!
    Anyway, I was impressed that your video lead to a educational discussion opportunity where my grandson understood the concept. So, thank you.

    If you are still looking and a motor-sailor is an option, have you checked out Island Packet yachts the built a Cruiser MkII and now have a North Star 44. You might let it be known among your boating friends you are considering a motorsailor and would like to get some experience on sailboats, even if it is just a daysail. Also sailors exerience with any potential boat models you're considering. There are some youtube videos on the Island Packe Cruiser MKII, there maybe a few on the North Star44(it's a brand newe model/update of the Cruiser line). ASA and US Sail both offer sailing classes in the US and may have instructors who would do instruction on your own boat.

    glad to see you didn't lose your way and are back to looking at bigger Nordies. I'm not a big fan of the Motor Sailor but on the other hand I'm the guy who's spent the last twenty years sailing and I need a little rest at this point. :) Are you looking at that 3-cabin 47? Great choice for a family. I won't give you any competition on that one. I want the standard full size forward on the 47 for my office.

    • @CassidysSailingTrawler
      @CassidysSailingTrawler  5 років тому

      +sailinstyle - the 3 cabin 47 has some features we didn’t like - a 12 volt electrical system vs 24 volts on the newer hulls for one.
      We really liked the 47 Navigator but it wasn’t meant to be - and in the end I think we ended up with a much better boat for our needs with the 3 cabin 56MS. We aren’t sailors at all but will learn to handle the sail rig. It looks easily manageable.
      It will be a learning experience but the cool thing about this motorsailer is that you can still run it like a powerboat and not worry about tacking or anything - just making use of whatever wind assist you get in a given direct course.

  • @sailinstyle
    @sailinstyle 5 років тому

    BTW what's the engine room situation on the MS? The engine room on the 47 is the deal maker for me.

    • @CassidysSailingTrawler
      @CassidysSailingTrawler  5 років тому

      +sailinstyle - that’s the one place where the 47 wins. I love the full stand up engine room in that boat!
      In the version of the MS with the outdoor sailing cockpit and 2 staterooms, there is an standuo engine room but the engine is still kind of down in the sole.
      On the version we bought with 3 staterooms and the larger lower living space, the main engine is accessed through hatches in the sole. It’s a compromise I’m willing to live with though. The lazarwtte is HUGE and it houses almost all of the other machinery including the big 16kw genset. And the living space down below is amazing with the way this boat is configured.

  • @sailinstyle
    @sailinstyle 5 років тому

    Whoa, 12V on Mari Mi? Yikes. That's really not good on boat that size. Navigator would be the one I'd be going after, although the ask is a bit high. So motor that thing up here and I'll teach you to sail it! :)
