Cruising in Costa Rica on a Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer - Ep. 25

- This episode documents the time we spent cruising between Golfito and Quepos - in Costa Rica.
We checked into Costa Rica in Golfito and spent a week exploring the area, including looking for wildlife in the estuaries of Golfito Bay. After leaving Golfito slowly moved up towards Quepos, which is in the center of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

It’s been fun watching you guys cruising. We (my wife and I) cruised the Caribbean basin 16 years ago. We cruised for 3 years on our 44 ft. Trawler, “Simplicity”
Loved Golfito and Quepos ! Wonderful locals and staffs.
Good memories.
I am so glad you posted another video. Looking forward to more. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
roger snelson - thanks and same to you. We are doing a bunch of work on the boat right now and will be posting more videos soon.
Was wondering where you all had gone. Glad to see you are all good and okay, safe and sound.
Wish I could sit and pick your brain about the motor/sail boat tradeoffs
MERRY CHRISTMAS and calm seas!!!
Robert gray - always happy to talk about boats. Email us with any questions..
It sure looks like a great way to explore. Fair seas and good fortune to you
Very happy to see another video posted. Happy New Year!
Good to see you back here friend. We’ve missed you!!!
Thanks Brooke! We’ve definitely been slow to post lately. Just finishing up with 2 months in the yard...
We love your boat! Thinking of getting a motorsailer as our next boat. We have a steel 33ft we are just based on the western Irish lakes and can easily go onto the river Shannon. We hope to get a bigger boat eventually to get us around Europe and maybe further? We'll see how it goes! Best of luck with yours!
Ihave watched all your 26 videos they are very nice good quality visual and audio.
I sure hope you will make much more videos.
Very nice video. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Lmao. When dude waved as you went past at the end of the video. My dumb self waved back, not realizing I was waving at a screen until I put my hand back down... Smh... Lol.
Awesome....
THANKS FOR SHARING... HO HO HO =)

Here’s a pretty motorsailer..
how much do boats and cruising cost?
the answer is always the same - everything youve got
Like everything in life how much are you willing to pay
That tender looks smaller than the other one can you get the bikes in that ?
It’s the same length but smaller interior volume since it’s got the inflatable tubes. We sold the bikes and have an electric skateboard for now. Will probably pick up a couple of folding electric scooters at some point.
Looks like you need a new Camera?
A lot of this was filmed with a shaky iphone while single handing or light handed - but that's what happens in the real world when trying to capture stuff and actually live life. We do have good cameras with gimbals and do appreciate how much better the footage is when captured with those tools...
@@CassidysSailingTrawler I was referring to how washed out it looks. Maybe it was filmed with an HDR filter or something. Most of your videos look like some type of filter has been engaged making them look unnatural in some way or another.
@@lesgarten If I were to guess... It looks like it was shot in RAW and then a color correction (LUT) wasn't applied in post.
How big are the fuel savings with the motor sailer, is it worth the added complexity?
The burn rate does go down significantly with any help from the sails. The rig definitely adds cost and complexity but the real advantage of it is truly independent redundant propulsion vs a wing engine that shared a fuel source with the main, and extended range.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas. In regards to anchoring. Do you find that you have sufficient ventilation to avoid running AC. Also, how easy are sail adjustments while at helm station.
Thanks and same to you. In the tropics we were running the AC a lot, but there is a pretty substantial house load on our boat and we don't have solar panels yet - so it's hard to load the 16kw generator adequately anyway. Running the AC while we are charging the batteries helps to get enough load on it. If we add solar panels, I would guess we'd run the generator less and rely more on natural ventilation and fans while at anchor.
Sail trim is surprisingly easy. The head sail is trimmed and furled from right outside the pilothouse doors so its really safe even singlehanding. We had zero sailing experience and are now totally comfortable handling the rig doublehanded or even singlehanded.
Still curious how to sail with a pilot house. Hope to see a video on how it is done.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and your family
Nice boat and good narration. I'd ditch the music while you are are narrating (or even all together) as it's harder to hear. Also, as another commenter noticed, the video is very washed out with colors way off. Hope you don't mind the constructive criticism.
Well taken. We have no shame and accept all constructive feedback. Thanks! Seriously though, we have tons of cameras., We understand the exposure triangle. We have gimbals. . All of it. It’s a pain most of the time. One grabs a camera. It’s usually... an iPhone.
What ever happened to you?
WHY must the background "music" be lowder than the voices we are expected to here?
