Just went to the next video and you use wood underlayment! Less expensive than my thought of laminate sheets (which I thought would be wobbly and possible crack the epoxy trying to install) for a wall of marble, wow. And no trial and error on my part. Thank you so much for your effort and making these videos and putting them out.

I purchased a mobile home to flip in an excellent location close to the beach. This is my first attempt (vs a home) and was not prepared for a number of differences even though I had watched hours and hours about mobiles. I was not understanding the WEIGHT issues. Heavy items ( marble, stone, wall of tile..)create stress on the underneath skeleton and require I get underneath and add support. At 68 yrs I am no longer willing to do that (also I just do not want to carry heavy items) so I have been looking at other options. I am considering buying a sheet of laminate and cut it for the backsplash (an entire wall of marbled look is the goal, in the kitchen and a bath), but then lay it flat, do the epoxy then attach to the wall. Old laminate counters are available possibly with an updated (the originals have cut outs I do not want and the seam is bloated from water damage) if not I will do the MDF.

This is beautiful! My bf has dabbled into this stuff but is still learning. I would love to do this to our kitchen counter tops but I'm worried that if something goes wrong, our countertops will be ruined. 1 day we will do them, just gotta learn some more about the process before actually doing it.
Thank you Angela! You can totally do this. Just make a sample or two first with a small 2'x2' piece of MDF from Home Depot. I'm tellin you the only thing you'll regret is not doing it sooner. It's really easy.
Keep in mind there's no such thing as ruined with epoxy. Maybe have to redo it, but you can always sand and recoat.

I used rustoleum heirloom white, French beige, anodized bronze, metallic champagne bronze(gold cap). I have a video almost ready to upload that shows the colors and the process of creating the veins. I'll upload that on Tuesday. Thank you Dee Tyra!!!!

This is beautiful! I plan to do this method on my laminate counters soon. Did the epoxy pool on the vertical surfaces? I worry my laminate counters (that have the slope on the top) will slide down and pool.
Yes it does run off the vertical surface a bit. There’s no way to avoid it. But if you put color on the vertical surfaces last, you’ll get the best results. Because the resin will be more set up at that point.

This is beautiful! I want to do mines this month. I have 2 questions: 1 where did you but the epoxy and resin from? 2 did you mix the color with the resin to do the veins or is that paint?
I bought the epoxy from a local company here in Tampa called McKinnon Materials Tampa. They ship and theyre waaaaay cheaper than ordering online. But there's probably someone in your area that sells it. And the veins are just spray paint. check my latest video on how I did the veins.

I used all rustoleum brand...heirloom white, French beige, nutmeg, gold metallic, and anodized bronze.

yes, they are good.
Do you just use regular pain for the base coat?
yes... just regular latex house paint.
Stunning! Is sanding necessary if you primed the surface because that is the purpose of the primer.
It's not necessary, but it'll make a butter smooth surface and remove any fuzz or bristles, etc. I'm just in the habit of it.

well....the problem with leaving the sink in is if you need to replace it, your epoxy would be ruined. Also depends upon if you have a bit of lip at the edge of your sink so the epoxy will still be lower than the edge of the sink or at least level with the sink, so it doesn't flow over the edge.. does that makes sense? But , yes, you could leave the sink in.
Hey ms your countertops look sooo good.. Question you have large countertops like I do... How much epoxy did you use? 1/2 gallon of resin and 1/2 gallon of hardner? Or gallon of resin and gallon of hardner..
I think for this kitchen i actually used 1 1/2 gallons of each. I bought 2 gallons of resin and 2 gallons hardener but i didnt use it all. It's bettter to have too much than not enough that's for sure!

I love this video and your video with the design tutorial. I have them saved as a reference because I’m about to do this in my kitchen. I plan on leaving the sink in, hopefully that goes well. What color did you use as your base coat? I like the color used. I saved which colors you used for the veins but I’m also interested in the base coat. & what size can in the base color did you need for this project? Thank you!
Thank you Kaylee! I used a Behr color called Swan Wing. It’s an old color and Home Depot no longer has the swatch but the formula is still in their computer. When you tape off the sink make sure you remove the tape before the epoxy is completely dry otherwise you may end up with tape stuck in the epoxy. Also don’t use blue tape, use off white for around the sink. 😃

@@kayleeclark4894 yes, one gallon is enough. My Home Depot still mixed Swan Wing for me. my whole kitchen and family is painted in it. I just tell the paint counter person the name and they find the formula in the computer.

How do you do the vertical surfaces?
I try not too...but if you must, then you have to accept that the vein design will be a bit droopy. you'll get the best result by waiting until the epoxy is set up a bit, and then adding the color to create the veins. that'll prevent some of the settling/drooping of the veins.
I used apoxy spray on my countertop and they cracked up when it dried and we added a second layer . Now I tried countertop paint to cover it after being slightly sanded it cracked up as well . Now idk what to do .
hmm....it may have needed to be sprayed in many thin coats rather than a thick coat. Can you chip it off? Or...can you fill the cracks with Bondo and then paint it, and then pour two part epoxy over that? OR can you paint the cracks with a darker color so they look like veins and pour two part epoxy over it so it looks like marble? Two part epoxy will level anything.

It is so beautiful!! I wanted to do it but, I watched some videos where it said there was a little yellowing after couple of months and also some stains from veggies. Is it worth all the efforts?
I think it's 100% worth it. It's actually not that much effort and for the cost you can't beat it. So far I have not noticed any yellowing with my counters or my backsplash and I painted the counters and backsplash the same exact color as the wall above the backsplash. And there is no difference between my wall and my backsplash so far.
and as far as stains...the only stain on mine so far is from a wet plastic grocery bag that was left overnight and the printing from the bag transferred to the counter. I used some windex and it came off after a few days. It wasn't immediate, and I was mad, but then within a few days I couldnt even tell where it was anymore.

@@rohiniyadav9294 well...I was told by the man I bought my epoxy from that there's only 3 epoxy manufacturing plants in the US so all epoxy basically comes from the same place. He's an old timer and been in the business for 40 years and seems to really know what's he's talking about. All that to say...I'd buy from whoever has the best price. You can call the place I got mine here in Tampa...Mckinnon Materials...and talk to Buster. He'll tell you anything you want to know and more. They ship epoxy nationwide and the prices are cheap. Not sure what shipping would cost though.

Do you have a video that shows the veining? What colors did you use for the veining? I have been looking everywhere. This is exactly what I have imagined. Everything I find is in the greys. Which unfortunately doesn’t go. You are extremely talented!!!

How did you do the veining? Roller? Squeegee?
no, I used a paint stick and just drizzled the epoxy mixed with spray paint onto the clear epoxy to make the veins....I have a video on that process. ua-cam.com/video/bq8pgweX9yg/v-deo.html
How did you pour out the vertical surface under the breakfast bar?
I brushed on the epoxy with a paint brush. I let that set up for about 15 minutes then put the veining on . So that the veins would run down as little as possible.
How do you do the vertical parts ?
I brushed on clear epoxy and let it set up a little before adding in color. I used a paint stick to drip color down the vertical surface. It'll run no matter what, but if you let the epoxy set for about 15 minutes before adding the color it'll stay a little better.

It appears to be a relatively straight forward process. It also seems that a lot of attention needs to be made to procedure, coverage, etc. Looks quite nice, overall.
@@gregoryclark7566 Thank you. Yes, it's pretty straight forward, it's not hard...but its good to do a small sample to get a feel for it. I'm about to do followup of my kitchen counters because I think it's been almost two years since i did mine.
Hiw is it holding up to stains?
Really well! I was over there the other day(this is a friends house) and it looks like brand new. My kitchen has been on longer and mine is great as well. Sometimes i get stains from tumeric or mustard but it always comes off with windex or glass cleaner(sometimes it takes a couple applications of windex but it comes out).

I think i used 4 gallons total. 2 gallons of resin and 2 gallons of cure.

Ok, so I have weird formica counters. The surface of the counters is formica, but they are edged in what I believe is actual tile. So they tile part is rounded, but has grout lines. Can I epoxy counters like this??
You can epoxy just about anything. I'd probably Bondo the grout line so don't see it.

The size and dimension of my counters would cost thousands of dollars(even the cheapest options) because they would surely have to be custom. I have a 21' span on one wall. This cost me about $200 and very little learning curve.
I have been wanting to do this but hear a lot that the epoxy will yellow over time.. what do you think? Has yours or do you know of any that has?
the short answer is Yes, it does yellow. I know for sure it does because I used the same color background paint for my counters/backsplash and the walls right behind, and there is a difference in color. I will say I know for sure that the thicker you apply the epoxy in one coat the more it will yellow. so make each coat fairly thin.

because this was a job I did for a client/friend and the client was home at that point watching me do the design. so I couldn't record it because I was already under enough pressure...make sense?
