Oh man, I'm in love. I've already resurfaced my old veneer bathroom countertops. However, I thought I would be stuck with my kitchen tile countertops because I can not afford to have them redone with granite. After finding Mike and StoneCoat, I'm going to work on covering my tile. I'm so excited. I may be 67 yrs. old, but I think I can handle this. Thank you so much for renewing my hope of getting rid of the old tile and grout!!
I would love to see an updated video on this!! My home has these kind of counters, backsplash as well. Id love to see how youd do around a sink thats level with the counter as well. (Not a top mount but not an undermount sink either)
Oh thank you so much! I just purchased a home that has the original kitchen from 1987 - with those tile countertops you can't roll out dough on and just are such a pain to clean. This is a good option to replacing the countertops right now and buys me time if I want to do a bigger update later down the road. You've really done a good job with the step-by-step instructions that even I can follow.
This gentleman is a Craftsman, that's something you become because you've seen it first, I should know my Mother was one of Bob R. best students, he is what you are seeing an Artist of Coatings and Processes. Thanks for posting, looks fantastic!!!
Thank you for posting this video - it really convinced me that this kind of operation was possible in the first place. However, after some research and experimentation I have modified and in my humble opinion improved your approach. The two main concerns I had with it was that 1) prep took two days for both concrete treatments to set 2) achieving smooth, level surface involved a lot of manual corrections. My approach was the following: 1) paint the tiles with multi-purpose bonding primer by Custom 2) wait an hour 3) fill the grout groves on the edges with a fast setting concrete product such as SpeedFinish or Bondo 4) wait 2-3 hours for it to set 5) since the surface of the tiles are surrounded by the raised edge and the wall we can pour self-levelling concrete over it to achieve a smooth level surface with little to no effort - I used LevelQuick RS mixed with water according to manufacturers instructions 6) let it dry overnight This procedure achieves smooth, level surface twice as fast (1 day instead of 2) than the original. It only works for tiles with a raised edge, but it's something worth considering!
This is an excellent video. I think I will do this over a disgusting ceramic tile countertop in an older home I just bought. As much as I hate wearing a mask, I think I would do that when sanding and when pouring power materials out of the bag.

Stumbled upon this video and am so glad I did. I'm renovating my mother's house that I inherited... Just wondering whether this technique will work on her bathroom tiles around her shower / tub?🤔
Same method. As long as you make sure you get a good bond, you have nothing to worry about. When I apply new tiles to an already existing tile layer, I use a bonding agent, just like in this video, which dries out sticky/rubber-like and mortar sticks to it so epoxy will as well.
Mike, just wondering how durable is the countertop after you apply the epoxy coatings. So interested on redoing our old and outdated tile countertop. Thanks for the tutorial videos you have.
Bud as a cement mason that adhesive can be mixed with water we usually mix 1 part adhesive to 3 parts water to help bond concrete to concrete but i like the overkill that's my way too lol so you basically concrete the surface to recreate the surface before the epoxy

Around 25:30 you said it looked like a concrete counter top.. Is it possible to stop there and seal it to get the look of concrete countertops without all the work? It absolutely looks like a legit concrete countertop. That would save a whole lot of hassle if you could stop at that point. I'm curious to see how you do the bull nose and how the epoxy looks afterwards. I have the same type of countertops in my kitchen and I would love to do this because we don't have that much counter space. Can I stop at the concrete stage and then do a top coat of clear epoxy? Also, I don't see the bonding primer on the website for sale anymore. Am I missing it?
I know this video is 3 years old but I have the replica tile that I despise and am looking forward to changing. I’m so excited to finally find a solution!!!💓💖💓
Your final product looks great. Can I apply this to my shower floor that has old ugly tile? Immediately I see two obstacles: the shower floor is not leveled, pitching to the drain. How to apply watery epoxy to the shower floor that has pitching surfaces? Secondly, is the final surface slippery? How can I make the surface NOT slippery? Thank you very much.
Great question zensea! The surface will be slippery when wet. Our epoxy is a self leveling product so it will want to run down toward the drain due to the pitch, we don't recommend it for shower floor application. Contact us anytime with questions or for project support. (541)450-1976
I am surprised by the number of layers required to epoxy over tile. It really does make it impractical to do. It seems like it would be a lot easier to either remove the tiles and clean up/replace the surface under it or just go with another option altogether. I mean you used 3 different treatments under that epoxy! Two of them had to be mixed and troweled out. That is a crazy amount of work, time and expense just to end up with epoxy counter tops.
@@StoneCoatCountertops am i too late for this? im planning on doing this to my old tiled countertop. the backlash is also tiled im wondering what i should do with it
Mike, great video, full screen is working! Max video quality is only at 480p. I couldn't quite see it, but looks like audio has improved with your clip on microphone
I'm working on starting a business doing this for people here in Tucson. This is great because it's the only video I've seen coating over tile. I was wondering how I could do this. I need to find a shop where I can make up some samples like this to show off what SCC can do!
Omg I am beyond amazed! Had no idea this was even possible! Here I am looking up removing countertops and came across this video. The extra work going into it I think is worth the custom finished look. Subscribed and been to your website already.
You have to remove splash back an do it horizontal an then put it back up, if that's not possible you will need to cut new wood an do it horizontal an fit it to the wall,
It looks great. I would like to try this but have question. Can this be done with sink attached to countertop or do I have to remove it? Or just tape it off?
Great instructional video, thanks! I am wondering how much of the concrete bonding adhesive, thinset mortar and self-leveling underlayment is needed for ~50sq ft of countertop
@@downthetubeigo I am interested to start this job commercially, I don't have any information, how can buy this materia.please guide me. Best regards Rao Muhammad Saleem.
I think you could measure, then make shower walls, add this epoxy finish while walls are flat and then install them upright into a shower. Lot of work. I don’t see you being able to add this to existing upright, tiled shower walls.
@Meeno Do Perhaps liatofly churchie is thinking of a tile wall over a tub like I am. As for the floor, you're correct if you're talking about over a shower pan. But if the floor was also tiled, I can't see why it wouldn't work. As long as the existing grout isn't showing spread, seems like it's handling the weight bearing aspect okay (unless there was additional weight factor to account for with the overlays)
Could we just put the epoxy straight on the primer? I dont care about the tile grooves. Or could we ONLY use versabond? That seemed to be good enough to create a smooth workable surface? Why the thinset ON TOP OF versabond? Again I don't Cate about grout joints, unless there is a quality or endurance issue connected to the thorough prepping? Bumps, grooves, and joints add character, or at least I'm able to justify my laziness by using that as an excuse to not do SO MANY steps.
Do you have a installer in California or do you travel to do this work cor clients. I'll agree to do a commercial, ad or publication if you do. I haven't been able to find anyone that does this professionally in or around Los Angeles, Ca.
Dust masks don't protect from fumes/gasses dummy. You need a respirator mask for that. 😂 Dust masks protect from airbourne particulates. But yes, I HIGHLY recommend a breather / respirator mask so you don't end up with Cancer.
@Ryan Carlen Ryan Carlen SMFH...duh...dust masks protect against dust Einstein...it does nothing to protect you against epoxy or or other chemical gas fumes genius. Use a dust mask for SANDING wood, use a chemical respirator for when you are dealing with chemicals. Obviously you never took chemistry.

@@StoneCoatCountertopscan this product be applied over/on an old cast iron tub instead of having the tub electroplated?
I am surprised by the number of layers required to epoxy over tile. It really does make it impractical to do. It seems like it would be a lot easier to either remove the tiles and clean up/replace the surface under it or just go with another option altogether. I mean you used 3 different treatments under that epoxy! Two of them had to be mixed and troweled out. That is a crazy amount of work, time and expense just to end up with epoxy counter tops.
Instead of versa bond try webcrete it's way smoother .
Thanks for the tip William!
Stone Coat Countertops 😂 goooooo William‼️🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your quick response, I’ll hit you up again when it’s time to pour the epoxy.
Can you do an updated tile countertop video or confirm if this process has changed at all?
Sami, absolutely! It is accurate, if you'd like, get ahold of our project support and we can send you more detailed steps. You Got This!
Too Mach work for libel piece I don’t to think haw much time many mass and material mid and this is flat if it’s wall it’s big mass
I'm working on starting a business doing this for people here in Tucson. This is great because it's the only video I've seen coating over tile. I was wondering how I could do this. I need to find a shop where I can make up some samples like this to show off what SCC can do!
How does the epoxy stand up to scratches and hot pans set on it?
Thinking of using this technique for my bathroom floor. Old pink and brown.
How durable is the finish? And if it does get scratched, how do you repair it? Thanks - Great Video
Rock44260 doesn’t scratch & heat resistant.
If it does scratch, sand with sander and buff back out to shine their website has the supplies to do this and other videos on HOW to do it.
Or just tape it off?
yes it can. i have seen one of his videos doing it
I'm gonna give her a whirl. Nice presentation
This is great. Can I do this to a 8x15 kitchen floor?
Yes.
Try using denatured alcohol its separates better and levels it out. Good job and great idea video was useful
Love what y'all do can't get enough. Gonna redo our Non-profit HQ with your Inspirational videos 🥰💗💖
To me this is the best work i've seen
Sir continue posting ur works i love them and am proud to tell u dat i have been learning alot sir
Great instructional video, thanks! I am wondering how much of the concrete bonding adhesive, thinset mortar and self-leveling underlayment is needed for ~50sq ft of countertop
love to watch your work come out of that stuff. can't get enough
We appreciate that! What is your favorite color combination?
I need help finding some products at home-depot. Any other suggestions

That came out sooooooo beautiful omg
Hi and thank you for a great video. Question:
Once dry, does the final coat of clear epoxy withstand very hot pots and pans??
Good question, I want to know too.
@@downthetubeigo I am interested to start this job commercially, I don't have any information, how can buy this materia.please guide me.
Best regards
Rao Muhammad Saleem.
There is a demonstration video in which a pot with boiling be water is set on it as well as a hot frying pan with eggs. No marks or damage.
They also have a video showing how they poured alcohol over it and caught it on fire.
Thank you so much, looks like a great solution for inexpensive remodeling.
Can you show how to do it on tile on the shower wall
I'm sure you can add some type of flake just like epoxied garage floors to make them slip resistant.
I think you could measure, then make shower walls, add this epoxy finish while walls are flat and then install them upright into a shower. Lot of work. I don’t see you being able to add this to existing upright, tiled shower walls.
@@oceanbrzzz Go to their website & you'll see the steps for creating walls for the shower. FYI, it's starting fresh, not a redo of an existing.
@Meeno Do Perhaps
liatofly churchie is thinking of a tile wall over a tub like I am.
I love it. how durable compare to tile
Did you ended doing it this way ?
I love your videos. You should try to put some old newspapers under the epoxy, I think that would look cool.
Ok thank you! I don't have a tile edge for some reason it's just wood with no lip so that may just work. Thanks!!
Do you have a installer in California or do you travel to do this work cor clients. I'll agree to do a commercial, ad or publication if you do. I haven't been able to find anyone that does this professionally in or around Los Angeles, Ca.

how do you clean your brushes and materials???? love your work
Dust mask is also important to your health, put it on, especially when you are working with these type of products. Great product though!
how about shut up.
