+NapalmAndBubblegum The silicone is temperature rated up to 395 degrees Fahrenheit, but to be honest I have never tried to bake with these molds. I would have to some more research on this. Thank you for your question.
Tina Balsamo Thank you for the feedback. Our puppy is a puggle and she likes to get in to all of our videos. We just recently got a second puggle also.
+Giancarlo Saenz some hobby shop have the silicone in stock but you can also order the silicone online. There is a link in the description of the video to the silicone. The catalyst is usually included with the silicone. Thank you for your feedback.
Hey, I bought some of this Plat55 and was wondering if you knew if instead of a plastic container to pour the molding rubber into, can you use a metal container instead? Will it react normally?
+Robthewild1 It should be just fine with metal. A lot of people also build their molds out of foam-board and hot glue. Pretty much any water tight container will work fine. Thanks for asking.
Yes, these molds are just like any other silicone mold that you would purchase. So long as it is used within the temperature range of the silicone there shouldn't be any issues.
The product I used is Plat 55 from Alumilite there is a link to the product in the description of this video, however I am not sure on the availability of it where you live. Any food grade silicone for mold making should work just fine. www.alumilite.com/store/p/927-Plat-55.aspx
I did not do any degassing on this mold and it worked just fine. I am no expert on how to make silicone molds, however from what I have learned is that it is good practice to degas, but if you do not have the equipment to do so, as many of us don't, you can pour the silicone slowly keeping a thin stream of it and it will prevent a lot of air bubbles from forming. Also the objects that I had cast were on the bottom so all the air bubble that were there floated to the top away from the object. I am sure that when working with larger cast the importance to degas will increase. I hope this helps, for me it was a fun side project to create a unique mold for our baking.
