Thank you greatly! For shiny resin casts you can use the silicone, water and dish washing liquid technique to make a very smooth inner layer and then cornstarch method for the outer layer. Thank you greatly again!
Can we use handwash liquid instead of dish wash liquid?
@@Wisdomcanvas101 I have never tried handwash. Dishwashing liquid is far soapier than handwash which I suspect also contains other other skin care & protection stuff that dishwashing liquid does not. handwash liquid is also more expensive.
My suggestion is to try it and let us know. I will give it a bash with my next mould too.

This is such a great idea, I'm going to give it a go. I'll have to find something other than candy, though because I'd probably eat it all before it could make it to the mold :)
awesome. I have found that a ratio of 10:1 for silicone to cornstarch works really well. gives me more working time but cures fast as well. I am going to try and thin it out with some acetone as well to make pourable.
100 grams of silicone to 10 grams of starch:)
how firm is the mold once it fully cures?
@@PaulShavera113 with 10 to 1, its about a medium firmness. Thats the best way i can describe it. Its not tough, but not flimsy. I also thin the silicone with either acetone or xylene.

Hey, just wanted to say you can add naptha to make this more runny for pouring over detailed stuff. its good thick mold material as is though, I like it to make rubber stamps.
This is not food safe, by the way. The cornstarch can allow microbes to flourish. _Ge sillicone 2_ has antimicrobials in it, but I still would be wary, at least give it a brief wash or quick wipe with isopropyl after and before each use

FYI.... She didn't mention this, But! If you use Silicone 2, be reminded that when drying it will have an ammonia smell. Silicone 2 is cheaper than silicone 1, but Silicone 1 doesn't have anti-mildew and anti-mold additives.
Is there a “starting amount” as in 1/2 cup silicone to 2-3 tablespoons of corn starch?

If you have too much dough can it be stored till you find a use for it in a plastic tub or bags for example

How much time do you have to create your molds after the mixture is ready (before it gets too stiff/hard)? I am wondering if it's possible to do a big batch for a lot of different molds?

Please look up the term "draft angle" before you start making molds. It will make your work so much better.

You can use car polish to shine the piece…
Would using that alone (w/no sanding 1st) clear up that cloudy/dull film look on the surface so resin will be more clear & shiny? I poured a small 4oz elephant mold that came out good & doesn't need anything smoothed, just looks dull so not sure it needs to be sanded or adding a coat of clear resin will fix the prob.. Sorry to write a book- but is sanding epoxy resin a requirement to get it as shiny & clear as possible?? I'm only making small stuff like crystal/geode molds for jewelry-not pouring tabletops lol

It definately works for making molds, but are you sure it's safe for making things you wanna eat afterwards ? I mean people use gloves and sometimes googles to manipulate silicone
I stated that these molds are for clay and things like that. Definitely wouldn't use these to make food as they are not food safe. And you should definitely throw out anything that you used to make the mold.
Only one thing you didnt tell us: How many hours, till it's Cured/set, to start using the mold??
It will depend on the thickness of the mold. I used the one in this tutorial within 15 minutes

I've been told that a two-part resin will not set hard in a silicone/corn starch mold. Is there any truth to that?
I have used these for resin and they have set up hard. They just weren't shiny

How safe would the silicon be to use with food? If the silicon you used is not food rated.
I think you answered your own question. You can use food to make a mold of but wouldn't make food with the mold. Or eat the food you used to make a mold of.

I am not attacking you just asking a simple question. But if you do not have that answer it’s ok too.
