My 2004 4Runner was blowing air but not heat, this is what i did i hit the lower actuator gently with a screw driver, and applied little amount of grease with a wood stick in the arms where the mechanism moves. The actuator back to work again. Hope this help.
I did this and it actually worked…. I pulled up and down on the lever that’s connected to the actuator gently I heard a small click and it started working. 👍🏻
How do you know if it's the temperature control actuator Or the blender actuator? I know it's one of the two. The vehicle blows hot air, the temperature dial goes all the way up and down but wont change temperature. I can also see the components move to redirect the air when I change the settings. Also freon level was check out and is good. One last note. While trying to meter blend door, I must have shorted something. Heard a quick pop. Now my rear wiper is not working. I looked at fuses and didn't find any blown - under hood and next to steering wheel. Could it be a relay? 😅 thanks
Thanks for posting your idea. I used it today, successfully. The only difficulties I had was drilling the hole, and then presenting the screw to the mounting bracket. I did not have a small drill to use, and had the drill the hole from a sharp angle, which would not bite into the plastic. So, I used a miniature dremel to drill a pilot hole for the larger drill to grip. The other issue was presenting the screw to the mounting hole, so I used some super glue to hold it to the driver so I could be passed through the hole and locate into the bracked. I used a camera scope to view the location, close up.
This job sucked. I tried a low profile right angle drill, and even cut a drill bit short and still couldnt fit to drill the hole (with blower motor out). Dremel with flexible shaft worked, though. Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks for this video. I didn't have to drill the hole. I too was able to remove the top and front screws of the metal bracket, bend it to the right enough to remove the screws on the backside of the actuator with a stubby screwdriver. After replacing the actuator.....works perfectly now.
So after taking out the front two screws you bent the whole thing to the right and were able to get to the rear screw? Seems like that wouldn't give access still. I'll have to try it out though 👍👍
@@erikbalanzaNot sure, but I think he means the screws on the back of the actuator to remove the plastic piece from the metal arms. That way you don't have to remove the third screw that is hard to get to.
I was able to leave the back screw in on the metal bracket. Take the two front screws out. Bend the bracket over to the right. Then you can get the three screws out of the backside with a stubby screwdriver.
so was your temp the same on both sides or was one side hot and one side cold cuz that is whats wrong with mine. I got freezing cold on the passenger side and hella hot on the driver side... I am asking cuz i found one other video that fixed that problem on a 05 4runner with my same problem only opposite so it was cold at all times on the driver side they said that the bar that moves the door flap was broken and the heat was stuck closed... I dont think that is my issue because well my heat works so if the bar was broke im assuming the heat would not... the door is stuck open on the heat and I am wondering if replacing that actuator on the passenger side will fix my issue or if im screwed because the flap is broken.
Same here only blows cold on passengers left vent and all the other vents just blow air does this means the blend door is broken ? Also I got some refrigerant and the gauge went straight to the red zone and only the left passenger blows 40% cold all the rest is just blowing air not hot or cold
@@ejRecording haha I don't even remember this video but all I did for the ac was change the ac fuse.. its the square grey one in the fuse box.. my air seems to be blowing much colder faster..

Do you have an SR5 or Limited? 4Runners with a dual climate system have a two temperature blend door actuators, one on driver side (to the side of the throttle pedal), and one on the passenger side. The SR5 does not have a dual climate system, it only has the passenger side actuator which controls both sides. The actuator controls two arms, make sure it is connected to both of them.
Yes. Mine wasn’t totally failed. It would still adjust to hot or cold, it Just didn’t didn’t do well in the mid range. If you set it to 70 -72, degrees it would constantly adjust up and down a bit (causing the clicking), because it didn’t know where it was while in the worn out part of the potentiometer. You could hear it and see it click back and forth. All quiet now.
Check your actuator heater valve cable. Mine was corroded and would not move. It caused my heater actuator motor armature to snap off. Replaced cable and actuator. Problem was the cable...just saying.
Trying to verify this is what I need to replace. My issues: when changing the temperature there is no in between temps. All hot or cool (not cold). AC will keep up until it is warmer than 85F out (had the system checked and it's fully charged). Hear a clicking noise coming from the actuator. Think this is the issue or any other suggestions? Thanks!
B chinshaw, My problem is, the passenger side blows warm, not hot, and the driver's side blows cold. Your thoughts on what could be causing this problem. Thanks.

How did you get into the air cabin filter area to drill a hole? What tool did you use?
Get a 90 degree drill extension. That's what I used. Worked great!
