I'd spin that a bit differently. I get that she's a vocal coach and all that, but I've been sitting here and thinking - geez, she's just kinda spacing out through the music and only comes to attention when Maynard lights it up. And to me, she seems to be missing 90% of what makes the totality sooo powerful for us. I mean, she's SORTA body jamming sometimes, right? When I see her headbanging like Beavis and Butthead THEN I'm gonna know - she is totally getting it now. 😂

Like she is saying "I shouldn't indulge, but i cant help myself." Love it :) Anything Maynard touches from his other bands A Perfect Circle or Puscifer is just absolutely brilliant.
You'll need to listen to Culling Voices on their latest album for those vocals. Personally, my favourite vocals from Maynard are on the 'Pushit - Live' track from their Salival album. It's goosebumporama.

If it's any consolation, the first time `I` heard this, I barely realized there even WAS vocals! I was so transfixed by not only the bass line, but the drums. The vocal melody came through, but not much else. It wasn't until I heard it a couple of times that I really started paying attention to his vocals and the lyrical content for that matter. You can take your time as well. We know tool songs are complex and have a lot to unpack. Don't worry about being "only halfway through the song", we don't mind. It this was 45 minutes I'd watch it just the same.
I'd suggest on the next tool song you listen, listen it for the first time from beginning to end, just to have a feel for it. Then you go back at it stopping whenever you feel necessary. You'll have a better notion of the nuances of the song and of how it began and how it ended, what impressed you, and you'll also notice a lot of things you didn't the first time. I'm not saying it's bad going like you did, just making a suggestion :)

Accurate! It's my understanding the band builds the music and then Maynard creates the lyrics on top of a finished product, hence the layered finish you hear. It's brilliant! Watching a reaction video to their music almost makes me want to cry because every song is so emotional. As I get older, it gets less emotional and these videos tend to reinvigorate that feeling. I am more of a stoic and serious type personality and Maynards voice speaks for me in ways that I cannot. Its Angelic. He and the band encapsulate all of my emotions hidden away inside. They have a way of finding them.

Maynard's vocals have always been extraordinary. So many different textures and rich characterization. Danny Carey (drummer) is a surgeon who has broken every single time signature rule and somehow combined sacred geometry and music at the same time.

Tool is the only band I've ever played so I could listen while focused on the drum.

Carey weaves the 13 dimensional space that the rest of the band operates within. His technical execution is superhuman

Tool seems to hit very differently than anyone else. They are a special and unique band and artists, for sure!

Thank You!! For appreciating Maynard's voice as well as the powerful music. I've followed Tool for almost 30 years. Missed 2 concerts. I love Your channel!

Great reaction. Thanks for doing another TOOL song. Nice to see you appreciate them so much!!
I read that this song was their take on when the Regan administration enacted the 3 strike rule back in the 80’s. Basically giving minority peoples life sentences for misdemeanour crimes because it was their third conviction. The kangaroo court, and piss all over my black kettle lines are them saying FU!! The judges, and prosecutors just spent all week giving black and hispanic men 15-30 yr prison sentences for possessing personal use amounts of illegal drugs…..but they spend their weekends doing blow, and smoking weed….but thats ok, because they’re educated, mostly white, and get to make up the rules. Brilliant song. Can’t wait to see more!!! I recommended Alice In Chains unplugged when I commented on your Sober reaction. I hope you give them a look soon as well 🙂. Take care.

Three strikes was in 1994 under Bill Clinton. Not Reagan.

It was interesting watching you recognize the voice in the mix not stand out front.
Most Tool songs feature this method.
Anyone who’s watched a Tool concert in last 20 or so years can tell you Maynard stands in the back next to the drums in the shadows and delivers epic performances. Along with the rest of the guys.
    Pretty equal footing usually.

I love the little snarls you do during their funky transitions…you should look into wings for Marie part 2 (10,000 days). I would definitely suggest reading the lyrics as you listen, very powerful!!!

Please, go back ! We’ve all been through this, and mark my words, we appreciate it more than anything else to see something getting aboard the tool ship !! Your reactions used to be ours back when we first listened to it, and I love it ;)

The best meditation journey session you will ever have is to lay in a quiet room with your eyes closed, mind clear and taking in Tool will ALL your focus! Nothing like it!
