    Thank you for providing a video that explains and shows you (clearly) what’s-what. Any helpful tips on removing the PCV breather hoses that connect to the valve covers? I’ve seen a few DIY’s but not convinced those method will work. Thanks and be well!

    An additional point to the PCV… another big (and pretty scary symptom) is the internal plastics failing which allows your coolant to mix with your oil. Won’t cause immediate engine failure as long as it doesn’t overheat, but it will make the job 3x as stressful, since you’ll need to run about 3 cycles of oil to fully clean the motor’s internals if this does happen. My suggestion if the car is over 10 years old or nearing 150k miles, just do it before you have this happen.

    Also add 2 things.
    The front plastic crossover pipes get very brittle and if you touch the small hose nipple top front of engine it breaks.
    Also the plastic hose that goes into the rear of the thermostat housing end deteriorates and will break unexpectedly.
    Replace it with the Pcv valve.

    Hi I had same challenge on A6.With the help of an experienced Service technician, I found the leakage to be coming from underneath the reservoir itself. u can only spot this when the car is very hot and running.

    Great video. If you end up needing to do the PCV, would it be worth doing the water pump, tstat, oil filter housing, intake valve cleaning all at the same time as preventative maintenance?

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  Рік тому

      Depending on the miles that probably wouldn’t be a bad idea

    I have a 2013 Audi A8 with the same issues as the one in this video. I want to change the oil seperator and the Thermostat housing like you said. Do you have a parts list of everything that you recommend to change while I have this torn down? You mentioned the gasket's for the intake as well. Just wanted to know what all you recommend.

    Is it possible to remove the coolant pipe going into the thermostat without removing the thermostat? Mine is leaking so I am trying to remove it without removing the thermostat. Thermostat was replaced 30K miles ago and is fine, don't want to break the seal on the thermostat if I don't need to.

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  4 місяці тому

      Yes absolutely, with the water pump pulley pulled off and sometimes the brake vacuum pump you can get it off there

    • @Hitmanjat
      @Hitmanjat 4 місяці тому

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair I am actually referring the coolant pipe which connects into the back of the thermostat housing, and goes to the heater core (vertical) Product ID: 06E-121-065-N. Mine is likely broken or the seal is gone, need to finish my disassembly. I don't want to pull the thermostat and break the seal, gasket is close to as much as a new thermostat. Thanks for the quick reply!

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair Have the solid oil leak down the back/sides of the engine and landed on the housing gasket, which I've not done but I did not replace the housing and I still have the leak. Oil is visible on the underside after 15 min drive after wiping the underside dry.. Possibly the housing or a bad timing chain cover leak as this point I think. When I did the housing gasket I didn't get the housing fully removed due to the one stud its mounted with and there being a bracket blocking you from removing the housing. Curious if when you remove the housing you are able to remove the bracket behind it to do so? The bracket holds the wiring harness. Thanks in advance!

    Hi. Can PCV diaphragm only be changed?

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair

      Yup! The dealer sells a oil separator repair kit that comes with a diaphragm and cover

    • @GreenTekHaus
      @GreenTekHaus 2 роки тому

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair So, if this diaphragm goes bad, it can allow coolant into the oil, looking like a head gasket problem? Is that correct, or what is the deal with that?

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  2 роки тому

      @@GreenTekHaus The diaphram just regulates crankcase vaccum so it couldn't cause that but the oil separator housing could. I haven't seen it leak coolant into a oil passage usually it leaks externally but I think it's a possibility
