good eye, bossman
Thanks for the tips. I will be looking at one of these in a couple days. It looks like these BEW cars are pretty easy to work on. I like to do almost all my own car maintenance and repair. Besides reliability and fuel economy, would you say that these cars are desirable because the ease to repair?
I did this on our old Passat but no bc of track use ;-)
You did this with the fan shroud in place and no removal of intake manifold? I was not sure if this was possible. Did you undo the Dog Bone engine mount and rotate/swing the engine in your favor? This was an incredible video, clear, quick, concise. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Yeah I leave the fans and the intake manifold in place, I don’t mess with the mount either, once you have the throttle off it’s really not bad
Could tell a big difference when using headphones.
I bought it but it does not work for me, the check P2015 still apperead. 😕
Sorry man, it’s a little hit or miss. You may need to replace your intake with the updated design
Of course your working on a Jetta 😂😂
I get enginge check and it says fuel. The enginge should change rpm if you take out oil stick. But my doesnt change rpm at all. Do i need to replace dip stick?
How similar is this to a manual transmission on a 2011 A4?
Very similar job, a couple bolts up high on the transmission need to be removed for the shift linkage
thank you
Great video. Have heard of this being a problem on these engines. What does the screen even do?
That’s a good question, honestly I’m not sure the purpose exactly, I’ve heard a lot of conflicting info on that
I'll never let my mk5 jetta die 😤 I've replaced parts just to make sure she's a tank
I'm so grateful to now know that my "woo-woo" sound on deceleration (only on certain roads!) is no doubt due to a bad tire. What exactly is wrong with the tire? If I drive on the Interstate before I can replace my tires, am I risking a serious accident due to blowout or tire coming apart? I don't drive the car that much. Could this be due to dry rot of the rubber sitting for periods on concrete?
It’s possible that being old and the rubber getting harder over time can cause the tire noise or alignment issues can cause it sometimes as well, either way assuming you have good tread and the rubber isn’t too old it’s usually not a dangerous thing more of a annoyance
@@EuropeanAutoRepair So generous of you to answer my question. I'm sure you know how many people here are relieved to find they are not facing thousands in repair costs due to your generosity and knowledge. Thank you!
@@N_Harkin no problem at all. The little dog in your profile pic reminds me of a sweet lil pup I used to have hah
@@EuropeanAutoRepair That little dog was the love of my life. I lost her about 2 years ago. It never gets any easier, does it? But, still completely worth it. Thanks again. : )
Having the hood latch linked to the oil level in the sump is a totally ridiculous set up. There is no reference to it in the Audi manual. If the oil level is low and the car detects you haven't opened the hood to put in oil ,then it continues to show a low oil level. Maybe the dealers are aware of it.
Well, good I watched this video. It thought the water pump is under the timing belt as well. Do you know how often does the water pump needs replacing on this engine?
You have just described why I'm not average....sorry couldn't resist the comment. I still couldn't afford that right now.
Hahah yeah that was kind of a weird way that I worded that lol
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great crappy engineering from someone that used to buy VW cars. Not now
Hello, when I turn the power on my car all the way, the pump turns on and doesn't turn off until I turn the power back on. Could this be the cause? What was your pump doing due to this damage?
Is the 2.0 t tsi engine worth it? I've thinking about buying a 2010 jetta wolfsburg 2.0 T tsi
Do you do some auto repair and maintenance yourself?
@EuropeanAutoRepair yes I do, and i watch your videos.. it is very helpful, thank you, the only question... is it very common for the engine to have problems?
Yeah I would say they are more problematic than the average car in that category, even though they have a little less power and slightly worse fuel economy the VW 2.5 5cyl has less problems I’d say, I drove a 08 Jetta with a 2.5 to over 300k miles with very little work
@@EuropeanAutoRepair I already drove the car, it is 6 speed manual transmission 4 motion (I had never driven a 2.0 t car) and it runs very well.. the only problem is that it has oil leaks but I will change the gaskets and I think that's all, so I think with the help of your videos it's worth it. any advice?
So, just looking at what you have here, is there anything beyond service position and core removal required? Asking for us DIY folks. Looks like a similar tear down required for a longitudinal 2.0T timing job..
Yeah it’s the same concept as on a model like a a4 just way way more stuff to deal with, much less serviceable
@ good info, thanks man!
Thankyou for your time in making this video for us, it's professional tips like this that are extremely helpful to the people trying to save money and do their own repairs ...
Very intresting video. I have a whine noise thats only based on speed (comes around 20km/h until 80km/h and drownes out after). Its more subtle at most speeds and way louder at like 50km/h. When I am off throttle its completely gone. Doesnt matter which rpm or which gear its is. Car is a 2007 Toyoyta Avensis with the 2AZ FSE engine (very smiliar to the US camry with the 2AZ FE).
Question for you. We are replacing a transmission in 2009 A4. It is automatic 6 speed. I am hearing that you need to recode or something like that. I have VAGCOM but not finding any information on what needs to be done. Do you have any insight on this? Thanks.
Yeah if you could pull the coding out of the old one that would probably be helpful, not 100% sure you can do it with vagcom, but you likely can
Great video.
Kinda cheap for the aftermarket manufacturer to not include the washer
Another great video! Happy New Year!!
Happy new year! Thank you
And i thought i knew all the weak points of the tsi/tfsi engines lol.. great job btw and Happy New Year!
Thanks man! Happy new year!
Having this same noise. Recently changed inner and outer tie rods, wheel alignment and got new tires. Noise started with the new tires. Could they be bad from the factory?
I’ve seen it before, I would get a second opinion on that from a tire shop
Just did this repair on a 2014 Golf. Couldn't have done it without this video. Used your description to pick up a few tools I would need, and it all went smoothly. Biggest pain was getting that stupid clip for the dipstick pressed back up from underneath. Had to get it aligned correctly then squeezed from both sides with pliers. Saved $1,100 repair bill.
So happy to hear that man! Yeah that clip can be a fight I probably should have elaborated a little more on that, happy new year!
MAN am I glad I ripped that screen out when I did my timing job. It was completely intact, but opted to remove it anyways due to horror stories like these!
Good call!!
Happy New Year. I need to replace and have the replacement for the actuator but right now once I pass the door flap with a credit card, once I take the cap off, there is a metal plate so I can’t pass it with the fuel nozzle. Tried to lock and unlock the car several times. Do you know a fix for it?
I’m not sure I don’t think I’ve experienced that one yet
@ my mind was in too many places, must have took the petrol nozzle instead of diesel, it worked fine today, it released as I pushed the diesel pump nozzle. Thank you, anyway🤗
No problem! Happy everything is ok
thank you so much for sharing all your expertise in these videos
Thank you for watching!
Do you recommend removing that screen if you're in there for something else?
Yup, get rid of it
Will you be installing a new replacement Cambridge screen - last year when I replaced the chain sets and guides, I had checked the screen and it was in place and fixed - Naptown Tuner in one of his videos suggested that it would be wise discard the screen - and I’d also thought why have a screen in that location- 🤔 - cheers - nice video and look forward to a follow up.
I’ve been leaving them out for years now, initially that’s what VW was recommending, I’m not sure if anything has changed since as far as VW recommendations but I haven’t had any related issues with the screen being removed
Wow not a repair i have seen mentioned for this engine. How do i check the condition of the screen or is it replaced when doing a timing guide update? Thanks for all your tips in 24 and glad to see another so soon in 25! Keep safe and well too!
What I typically do is when the timing chain service is being performed just remove the screen completely, sometimes they will already be loose and sitting in front of the oil feed and you can just pick them right out of there, leaving them out is from what I understand and what I’ve seen the way to go about it right now, this particular one never even made it to timing chain replacement before the failure which is not too common, thanks for watching man I really appreciate it! Happy new year
That's going to be an expensive job. I would suspect that there would be some kind of noise coming from the balance shaft chain rattling around. The customer is lucky not to have seized the engine.
Yeah you would think it would have been loud or shaking being the shafts weren’t being driven but what’s really odd is the car idled and ran pretty smooth lol, didn’t even sounds unusual
Preciate the video. Took me about an hour and a half to replace and refill. Also thank-you for pointing out the size of the screws.
No problem man! I’m happy it worked out, happy new year
How much does this repair cost typically?
Ive just replaced both on my Audi B8.5 3.0 Tdi as i have a vibration at idle when in drive, the vibration is influenced by input on the steering wheel, if i move the wheel it comes and goes and as soon as I'm in motion its gone, so i replaced both mounts and they didn't look to bad they looked like the second mount you took out, i still have the vibration when in gear at idle but whats confusing me is putting input on the steering its changes the vibration and at some points its completely gone, do you think this is a gearbox issue or could it be electrical related, apart form this the gearbox behaves perfectly
How does your transmission mount look?
@@EuropeanAutoRepair I think it looked ok but I'm not sure I'm not a mechanic
Looks like if you used a washer there wouldn't be enough threads to fully engage the nut??
The way it’s positioned in that video is kind of deceptive, plenty of thread once it’s fully seated
I keep coming back to this video for reference man. As always bro, thanks for taking the time to show the attention to detail. God bless you bro.
So happy it’s helpful, if anything comes up that I can help with let me know, happy new year
No way they wanna charge $150 for this when I can do it myself and its $23 on amazon💀
고마워
What if where the drive shaft meets the transfer case is what’s moving ?
I have a 2019 Nissan Altima S replaced front and rear wheel hubs and I’m still hearing a humming,Sounds like from the back of the car do you think the tires are bad ?
Apricate the informative video, was the car running rough at idle? I'm facing similar issue with my Tiguan where i went ahead and replaced, ignition coils, sparkplugs, manifold (upgraded), fuel injectors, pcv assembly and cleaned off the carbon in the intakes. seems like there is some oil leakage where the engine and transmission meet, got me thinking its the rear main seal and car runs rough at idle.. when scanned misfire on all cylinders, would greatly apricate your input, thanks!
Sounds to me like the rear main seal is the likely cause, is it a 4 motion?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Yes 4 motion, 183k km's.
Ahh, you’re probably going to end up having to replace that seal, a little more work on the all wheel drive models
@@EuropeanAutoRepair sounds good, I just picked up a 034 brand rear main seal, hopefully it all goes well, thank you for the reply!
No problem man. Good luck with everything, happy new year
Can you advise me if it’s the same procedure on a 2015 GL550? I have the same issue. Thank you. And what is the part number for that part.
Good catch.
What year is this car?
