Weight Training for Seniors & Beginners // FUNctional Workout!

- Hello and welcome to this FUNctional strength training workout! This 30 minute workout with optional weights is a MUST DO for everyone. All exercises are performed in a standing position and are low impact. This is the perfect workout if you are a beginner or a senior that needs to build strength and want to be able to continue to perform your everyday activities.
Structure of this workout:
One lower body movement without weights, one upper body movement without weights. Repeat those two movements with weights. Move on to two new exercises...
I'm using 5 pound weights in this workout. Please use whatever weights you have and are comfortable with. If you have light dumbbells you may go faster than me. Or if you are using heavier dumbbells you may go slower than me. Always go at your own pace and use a dumbbell that is an appropriate size for you.

I am 70 and have been exercising for years. I like your videos because they are slow paced with controlled movements. I feel much safer and comfortable with this pace yet I feel like I get a good workout.

I am 26 and this is a really great workout for me to start over again. At first I thought this might be too easy, but after working out I can feel my full body working but I don't feel dizzy at all. Definitely a workout I can du everyday

This was my strength workout for Wednesday and Lauren I am balanced challenged due to Epilepsy and the drug I take to keep me free from seizures. This workout and many of your workouts mention to get a chair or wall if our balance is challenged. Thank you for making this be alright instead of it making me like I wasn’t good enough to do it. Functional strength training is going to be on my exercise list for sure. Thank you.

Lauren, you ALWAYS have the best exercises. I think Balance exercises are one of the most important exercises for seniors. Strength training & Balance. Your workouts are so refreshing. Loved this one. Adding to favorites for sure. I have a question Lauren. I know you say form is more important than reps or weight, but when you are trying to move up in weight, and your form is pretty good but not perfect (I couldn’t hold my arms straight out, I had a little bend in my elbows), should I go back down in weight, or persevere at the current weight? Thank you! 🥰
I officially became a old pensioner last week at 66. I do not feel it but my body says different some days . Thank Lauren for keeping all us seniors young and moving.❤️🏋️♀️

I enjoyed these functional movements. I did have some pain in my arthritic knees during the lunges so modified a bit. I feel very accomplished for making it to the end. 😊

So gald I found your channel. Turning 77 in 1 month and have been doing aqua aerobics MWF since I retired from teaching Kindergarten at 73. Love that, but knew I needed to do some resistence training. This is a perfect combo for T Th and S to help me stay strong, flexible and keep the ole knees functioning. Thank you.

Yesterday I learned that my chronic hip pain will never get better. I am so grateful for your exercises because you keep me moving. My doctor says I need to use walking sticks when I walk my dog from now on. It's a real blow.

I love the slow and controlled movements. Another favorite routine to do 😊. I used ankle weights with this one. I loved all the subtle core work also.

Thanks Lauren, I was doing strength training via a hospital website, which was good, Im early 60's retired due to medical reasons however this gives me time to dedicate to me! Stumbled on your videos and they are amazing, doing different videos every second day plus hour walks daily. ❤ My glutes and thighs are aching with this one. I used a lighter weight for the first set and a heavier one for the second set and it really impacted how I used my body. Made me work so much harder, especially in the core. Thank you for always reminding me which part of my body I should be using and feeling. It makes a world of difference. Thank you xxx

Day 63, I am a practical person hence I love practical application of moves. As we get older we need to be able to do stuff for ourselves as long as possible. Perfect workout again.

Hi Lauren as mentioned previously have been doing your workouts for close to a month, doing different ones several times each week. Feel so much better than I have in ages. About 9 weeks ago started taking circumin as I had heard so many good things regarding it....WELL little did I realise just how much it really does help heal the WHOLE body! Since early March 2023 by tweaking diet and increasing exercise I have dropped 6 kgs and really feel like a new person, Im doing things that I didn't think possible....YAH!! Also started doing the Barre exercise video with you, love your sense of humor and all the encouragement...Brilliant. Plus big thank you for replying to all the comments, thats speaks volumes about you - Really impressed..Again thank you😃😃😃

First time doing this one, and I got brave and used 8lb. weights!! Going out to the side and lifting the weights in front was a bit of a challenge, but I got through it!! Thank you for these wonderful classes!! 😊

I feel so great after and keeping your strength and balance as you age is so important. Like the pace, controlled movement so we are working g the muscles for that group. I always think too easy, then I am finishing a set and not so easy. Pace is perfect. I am 65.
