I laughed out loud at the Rand and Turak scene. I kinda like it better than the books if I'm honest. Turak bought a sword to a One Power fight and looooost
Honestly, same. Instead of stumbling into a win, he went in there & just showed Turok what's what. Didn't matter one bit how high & mighty Turok thought himself - to Rand he was just a bump in the road on the way to what really mattered.
I feel the same when it comes to Rand and Ish. I've read these books sooo many times but still can't figure out how Rand was able to "kill" Ish like that. The show makes it so much more palatable. Ishamael is drained from smashing the other seals. He's so tired he don't even realize how tired he is. The fact a novice with half the power of Moghedian and a third of the power of Mesaana can challenge him? I love you Egwene! And I always will...
Season 1 actually frustrated me for the changes, but season 2... I am all for it. The changes make sense for tv, and it feels like the writers know what they are doing, I hope this continues I really hope Brigitte continues in the adaptation
As an in-progress book reader, I’m so glad to see that you were hyped for this episode because I am PUMPED and have QUESTIONS 😳. Wowwwww amazing and definitely a major upgrade from the challenges in S1 finale.
Oh, Beth! Thank you so much! I cried like a baby even the second time I watched it alongside with you. There were so many emotions going on, I was blown away. Please, please continue making WoT content. I love it and I am very excited when I see you post a new video here. See you in your twitch streams!
My understanding is in the books they can use the One Power as a weapon if it's in defence of their lives (not sure if that extends to protecting the lives of others, but I think so). The Seanchean were attacking Rand, so she would be able to use it as a weapon defensively. If they'd been just standing there, not threatening anyone, she couldn't have.
I have enjoyed your reactions so much!! It was another emotional moment for me, more so than episode 6. I was screaming, cursing, crying, WTFing, yelling, crying again, and laughing....I think my husband thought I was a bit crazy.
As a non-book reader, I will say that the finale of season 1 was great to me. I loved that Rand and Moraine travelled through the blight for Rand to try to beat the Dark One in a one-on-one battle, and that Nyneave and Egwenne took on the attacking army with the help of that Lady who wasn't a great channeller herself but used their power. I know it's different for book readers (I get that) but for someone like myself, it was a great episode - one of my favourite, if not my most favourite, episodes of season 1!!! :) This was a great episode too, although I'm a bit disppointed that Ishamael is gone already. I really liked his character / actor. My favourite bit of this episode was Matt being revealed to be a hero of the Horn of Valere, and I really like Nyneave and Elayne together, plus I really liked seeing Lan and Moraine reapply the "bond" - it was beautifully done.
I understand your points as a non-book reader regarding S1. Book readers also have to get that we are not the only target audience for the show. The fact non-book readers love it speaks volumes!
The turak scene made me laugh, it was so 'raiders of the lost ark' but i cried at hopper and was seriously emotional at mat as well. Despite the changes i utterly loved this episode. I havent been so emotionally invested in an episode since the red wedding in GOT (and in a very different way).
Thank you for sharing your reactions! Awesome! It was such an epic episode. Certainly the best hour of fantasy tv that I have ever seen probably even without all the easter eggs for book fans of 33 years. I think Rand decimating Turok's entourage was one of my favourite scenes as well as the heroes appearing from the mist. The changes didn't bother me either. Can't wait for season 3!!
Enjoyed your reaction. As a long time book reader I really enjoyed the changes to the Battle of Falme, the Perrin arc is gonna be fantastic in Season 3. Also, I feel like Mat has now arrived.
This was a great episode, i love the way they handled Mat in the end, i was really scared that he would embrace the darkness as that would deviate a lot from the plot. But damn, that was good. Even if the desperation before blowing the horn wasn't "really" showcased, it still seemed like a battle he would lose unless he blows the horn, it makes sense ! Egwene freeing herself makes so much more sense, it marries well with her personnality. But, i would have loved to see some more heroic deeds from Rand. As they are going to book 4, what awaits Rand is super dangerous and the way he is now is waaaaaaaaaay too weak :/ I really hope they would give Rand more credit, powering him up a bit more, it was good showcasing powerfull women, they were badass but give the male characters a chance Rafe i beg !
Thanks! Yes, but I didnt react to 1-3 because they came out right after I had surgery and I was in bed. I will be rewatching those with my daughter in the coming weeks. And I Llllooooovvvveee the books :)
A little foreshadowing thing from s1, the little farm girl tried to give Matt a Brigitte doll to protect him, and in s2 Brigitte shows up when Matt blows the horn. Such a delightful touch.
Yep, me too, Beth. Wet eyed all the way through. Hey something you mentioned about Rand made me want to throw this book theory out here. My take on Rand is apparently in a serious minority, and frankly, that's not good, because my take is of course, the most correctest. So, here are the facts laid out in the books regarding Rand and Lews Therin: 1) Lews Therin is dead. 2) Rand is the reincarnated version of Lews Therin. 3) both are driven to madness by the taint on saidin. 4) The Dragon, Lews Therin, was famous for more than being the most powerful channeler in the Age of Legends, he was also a polymath, a prodigy of weaves, philosophy and sciences. He was the era's greatest leader, he was the era's greatest general, he was the era's best swordsman. He published the most important books, he held the most important offices, he had almost all the talents. 5) Rand is the Dragon Reborn. Rand doesn't remember anything from the Age of Legends, he hallucinates things to disguise his own prodigious innovation, that's my theory. Rand is mad, Semirhage straight up confirms it, and further confirms that a fractured personality that is an actual past life is a known and especially problematic manifestation of such a mental illness. So I believe Rand hallucinates Lews Therin as a separate individual because the actual trauma the taint exploits is Rand's inability to reconcile his extremely fatal destiny. Rand was raised a simple shepherd, with very personal, localized moral values, as opposed to grand, world-scale moral values Lews Therin espoused. This doesn't mean Rand isn't still the same soul as Lews Therin, meaning, Rand al'Thor is ALSO a polymath, a prodigy of weaves, the best leader, a prodigious military commander (reasonable to believe the Wheel denied Lews Therin any Son of Battles to help him out the way it did for Rand, but that's kinda the point of the story, the Wheel got it more righterer this time by providing the Dragon a better upbringing.) There is never any point in the books where exists a true confirmation that Rand had a clear memory of the 3rd Age, there is always doubt cast on the moment. Case in point "I remember when Sammael attacked the gates of Paaren Disen, hope truly did seem to die that day." And Asmodean is like, "wait...is that really you in there?" A place where ancient, buried ter-angreal and texts regarding the One Power and the Breaking and the Dragon were hidden away for thousands of years by superstitious High Lords. You think maybe, since he spends the first 3rd of Shadow Rising alternatively making out with Elayne, yelling at High Lords, and reading those books, all while he's experiencing his first fracturing? Hearing Lews Therin's voice is the first thing we get from Rand's perspective in book 4, meanwhile he's studying texts not even Brown Ajah have seen, going through ter-angreal and asking questions, because he can't find the answers to "how do I reverse the damage my past self did" in any of those books. I don't think Rand remembers anything, I think he hallucinates, and because he is who he is, he just HAPPENS to be correct. I think he is just as much a prodigy and polymath as Lews Therin, innovating or reinventing, really, all those ancient war-weaves, as opposed to remembering them, and using his hallucinations to disguise it from himself. I think Rand straight up FIGURES OUT THE SONG. He knows the Ogier can sing, he saw the singing in Rhuidean, he makes the connection before most of the readers even do that the song the Tinkers seek is the one that grows the chora. I think he just figures it out like Po, because Po is also the Dragon and a Panda. I think Rand al'Thor is capable of writing the best books of the era, making the most significant discoveries, spearheading the most progressive and valuable of sociopolitical movements, devising winning military strategies (Davram, Rhuarc and Lan certainly don't ever correct him.) It's a weird distinction, like saying, "okay, well God created Evolution then," but in both cases, I'd say the distinction is important. Lews Therin, after all, was wrong, and Rand needed to get it right, and that meant he couldn't be arrogant and AWARE he was the best damn man ever born. Just the damned best man, Julius Caesar plus Jesus and Mohammed with some Coltrane thrown in. Rand, believing his imaginary friend was telling him about the Age of Legends and showing him memories is a hallucination you're supposed to buy into, I think. Mat has memories from the past, after all, right? Except, Mat's memories of past lives aren't HIS memories, and they weren't HIS lives, that's why he remembers all the deaths, and none of the childhoods, and some of those lives were concurrent. He doesn't have the more weave-specific Talents like Nynaeve's healing, Androl's Travelling or that one chick's weird shielding Talent, but I think he has every non-weave based Talent in the game. He figures out geo-politics in less than a year, takes over the world while completing an advanced degree in philosophy with that poor guy in Cairhien (can't remember his name). Anyway, Rand's madness and belief he has memories of the past supplying him with knowledge allows Rand to deny responsibility for his greatness, allowing him to preserve enough self-doubt to keep him humble when it was time to face who he was becoming. I kind of had the same reaction as you for the heroes of the horn, was surprised they didn't focus in on Birgitte more to show us what a bad ass she is. Get the new audience excited about that character
Hopper flew! Matt a hero if horn, so does that mean no snakes and foxes Uno is Gaidal Cain Time to toss the dice!! Rand all doey eyed re Elayne, “Who are you?” LOL EGWENE WAS AWESOME
Yes... he for sure is. When he gave Perrin the shield... he pulled out 2 swords. However, i don't think the show will ever call him Gaidal Cain to avoid confusion... but they will keep calling him Uno.
All I want to know is: HOW are they going to give Rand the idea to cleanse Saidin, without the conflict between Ishys wound Thrumming against Padan Fains Slice???!?? Since the dagger came first now, the only thing I can assume is that A: One of the other forsaken will wound him in the fight to take callandor, I love this idea, Either Sammael or even Ishy v2.0 B: They will do a cop out and say since the dagger passed through Ishys illusion, It carries the taint and aridhol all in one strike which I will hate. Also I do not care what the showrunner's think season 2 redeemed this show for me, I only hope they don't back themselves into the problems of season 1 with chickens hatching before eggs, because in my opinion no matter what you cut, you have to keep book 4 with rhuidean and you have to keep book chapter 37(for those of you who don't know why there is a book called chapter 37, hopefully you will, cause chapter 37 should be like all of season 7) for Rand to be the dragon of prophecy.
I definitely had problems with this episode (Nynaeve felt underused, Mat's transformation feels to fast and might not leave enough for the future, Moiraine seemingly used the One Power against people not threatening her or Lan), BUT all of the incredible moments from this episode just blind me to those flaws lol. Maybe my opinion will drop later on, but currently this episode is a 9.5 for me. I don't mind being blinded to the faults at all either, haha, it just makes me happier and what's wrong with that? So glad you enjoyed it too!
If the Dragon dies that puts the fate of the entire world in jeopardy and the Seanchan were acting against the Dragon. It isn't that hard to see the rationalization that by harming Rand the Seanchan would be threatening the entire world and thus Moiraine was able to channel against them. It goes with Verin saying early in the season that there were loopholes they could exploit.
@@marcoslugo6132theres an actual scene in the books where aes sedi wait until they feel threatened whilst people die before them. They couldnt do shit for ages
@@BethDomon Eye of the World is the hardest in the series. I almost ditched the whole series cause I struggled mid-book. I got hooked by the end and picked the second book which I loved. Tell her thar hehe
Uno being a hero of the horn. The hero’s being spun out over and over throughout the centuries. Uno standing next to Brigette. No offense to the actor, but Uno isn’t the best looking man. Hmmm, I wonder who he could be?
Rafe dug up the corpse of Robert Jordan and set him on the books then lit the fire with his hatred of the source material. The fans of this hate letter are ghouls that will eat from the corporate IP slavers hands no matter what they are fed. Let's do sharks with lasers next season.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I adore the books. It’s the best fantasy series ever written. I had to distance my book brain from the show. After I did that, I was able to enjoy it much more. Call me whatever you want. It doesn’t change my love for WoT either way.
I got the books after seeing the shows. I was actually very disappointed in the books because you guys were whining so much that the show was sooo different from the books that it ruined Jordan's books. You are setting high expectations in the books.
I luved ur reaction! I like ppl who can separate there book thoughts from the show cause you cant just put everything exactly as the books...the only thing i feell like we could have gotten more is like what happens to Suian...

I was disappointed to not see Rand fight against Turok, but it wouldn't have made sense for him to beat a Sword Master without training.
The book cloaks are going to cry over Moiraine using the one power as a weapon. They won't consider how her use keeps the three oaths.
22:31 loved the finale, but that is one concern. Moraine taking out a whole fleet from very far, over powers her, and expectations for future battles.
Valid take. The power scaling is going to be something they definitely need to deal with.

Yes as thats the point thay have to feel a threat and moraine did
@@DaleVieira12 a threat to her they clearly were not. Don't come at me bro I'm in mensa
Was it Moiraine who waited and was it at the cost of putting Rand, arguably the most important person alive, in peril? @@Gee-Sus-Official
Wow, now that's a Finale, sad that the screw-up Season 1 in terms of screen quality.
Nooo your daugther should read the books first! haha
I tried to get her to! She’s not a huge reader, and really struggled to get into Eye of the world
@@BethDomon Eye of the World is the hardest in the series. I almost ditched the whole series cause I struggled mid-book. I got hooked by the end and picked the second book which I loved. Tell her thar hehe
Bestest Boy.
😭😭😭😭
Crying AGAIN, yes, for our Bestest Boy 😭😭😭
10 episodes would have taken it to 9.9
you cut out Moggy in your reaction! Just 1 minute more is all you needed :) Hopper moment hit really hard ngl
I knowwww!!! I fail. I’ll cover her in my season recap video
This was a really good episode!
It was!
Your excitement when watching the finale is so infectious. It didn't mirror mine exactly 1:1 but there were a couple that did (🐶🪦😭).
