Nynaeve was so OP in season 1 plus after what she had to do to Seta, her struggle feels earned and it gives Eggy a chance to Level up. This situation will cause Nynaeve to focus on her training, lets face it she didn't take it too seriously in this seasons opening episodes. The looks she gave Elayne as she was trying to heal Rand lit a fire in Nynaeve I think!
I think they want us to be frustrated about Nynaeve, reminds me how I felt when first reading the books. I don't think she's aware of the anger trick quite yet, and she needed to learn to rely on and trust others instead of taking the full load herself like she's been trying (and failing) to do. Combine that with the massive loss of life around her, the fate of her friends hanging in the balance while she struggles to be of any help (if not a hindrance, in the case of Ryma Sedai, Egwene, Elayne), her trip through the arches traumatizing her, and feeling the death of the damane connected to her that likely reminded her of those final minutes in the arches, and you get a Nynaeve that...while most certainly angry...is also deeply sad, frustrated, and scared. She's facing the fact that she can't do everything herself, that she doesn't have all the answers, that things won't just work out if she applies herself through sheer force of will. The more she tries, she harder it is for her to reach it. And so amidst all the others having their big moments, we see Nynaeve fail, and fail again, reaching and grasping for the power to help her people and coming up short. As a result, Egwene will forever live with the trauma of her time with the Seanchan. Rand will live with that side wound and the pain it'll bring him regularly, and Matt will live with the guilt of causing it. Ryma is either collared or dead. I think next season's going to really explore Nynaeve's block, and I think she'll either have broken through it or have a way around it by the season's end. With how little they've really explored the exact way the magic system works within the show (not counting the Origins animated shorts), it would be a great opportunity to further hammer home that Nynaeve needs to submit to it instead of reaching to grasp it, the same way Loghain chided Rand for surrendering to it instead of just taking control of it earlier this season. And if they handle it like I expect they will, it'll be a good callback to the river scene Egwene had in the pilot.
I think making nynaeve pretty useless was intentional - i feel like her dealing with her block will be a major plot point next season since I bet she’ll hate how useless she felt at falme
I'm 100% convinced Uno is Gaidal Cain. I loved the Laila/Birgitte theory and I wish it had of been true. Who knows, maybe they just couldnt get the same actress for the episode and it might still happen.
@@TheAmyrlinsStudy yeah it was weird, I didn't get a notification for it (I think since it wasn't actually a new posting), I only noticed it because of the notification I got for your Sandman review and then saw this had finally popped up on your channel.
On this rewatch I finally also thought of one cool thing about that finale. The Seanchan like to say how they will bring the "damanes" full potential, how the Aes Sedai only do parlour tricks. But in the end there, they had the most powerful damane and suldam on the ship, they saw it coming, so it's not like they were entirely surprised either. And yet ONE Aes Sedai wrecked them. A real show of who's in the right on their right to self advocacy.
I was wondering why you had not reacted :) The 'indiana jones' moment with Turak made me laugh out loud but a sword fight would not be earned at all. @@TheAmyrlinsStudy RIGHT? I know it's not the Moghedien of the book, but I think she's SO much creepier this way. I can't WAIT for season 3 so I we can see the girls dealing with her. I think she might be the main antagonist for season 3 for the girls, especially Nynaeve!
Nynaeve being useless totally makes sense, with the trauma and all, and it totally works for the narrative so that other people can shine and she's not just the Deus Ex Machina... It's only annoying because like... it'll be another 2 years till next season and I don't want to wait lol. And omg Nynaeve can literally never complain about anything Elayne ever does... Elayne carried her the whole trip... haha
I hear you about Nynaeve, but I think they made the right choice by keeping her blocked because she had been the center of the show in season 1 and the first 3 episodes of season 2. The problem with having her power up SO early is non-book readers will always depend on her to come in and save the day. This prevents the other E5 kids from showing their own powers and stand on their own, especially Egwene.
Great reaction glad I found your channel! And yes in the books it was Padan Faine who stabbed Rand with the ruby-hilt dagger, the wound that plagued him for the rest of the series.
I think you're absolutely right with your head canon that the battle happens outside the city. But in the books, Falme is also not really a city, at least not like Caemlyn etc., more of a coastal town. It doesn't have walls in the books and the battle happens on open field, with the White Cloaks charging into the Seanchan lines.
30:10 I’ll say (as a ~show only~🤪) that it changes the context significantly, and I have no idea why they would cut it. It also would’ve added layers to Lanfear’s story, bc I feel there’s an edge there where people could think she’s creeping back to the Light for Rand. Even if she doesn’t, it just is more to sink into where you could either cheer or scream in betrayal with whatever she does next! Also I think my mileage has been p good as far as spoilers; there are a couple major ones I saw early on that I wish I hadn’t, but for the most part, even hearing what happens in the book doesn’t ruin the show for me! It’s different enough while keeping the same vibe (and also telling a version of the story suited to both the medium and era we’re in) that I don’t think book readers could tell me much of anything that would spoil seeing the story at out. (Ex: my sister was cagey about telling me the rest of Ryma’s story, and I when I looked it up on my own, there wasn’t anything in the general direction of it that I couldn’t extrapolate on my own, or I feel they’d make it different enough that it wouldn’t be a spoiler at all)
Renna is a good example of how Lanfear being super dommy and hot isn't why she suddenly has so many fans. Renna did all the dominatrix things like "good girl" and whips and torture and so on and yet there's very little Renna fandom growing. It's Lanfear's actress really showing us on screen why the Lanfear in the books kept being so successful in her manipulations, charisma and allure, and power combined. In the books we don't see her and with Jordan's writing style he doesn't end things with like, "despite what Lanfear did, Rand couldn't ignore the way her hips swayed as she walked" so that we remember she's supposed to being alluring lol. Because despite all my predispositions that would usually love a "good girl" from a woman in power, Renna made me so angry 🤮
