We also made a drum kit out of boxes on Stephen's channel. Check it out and let us know which one you liked better! ua-cam.com/video/A_mINX4N9jg/v-deo.html
Hey, man! You've made a lot of video about cheap stuff. How about another one - JTS TX-2 kick drum microphone? It's about 47 bucks or something. Can be useful for a little gigs
Next time you make a snare out of a bucket lid, try taping a yoghurt container with with bolts or small screws, or something similar to the bottom. Would probably get more “snare” effect than the real snare ;)
We compared the 2 when we put the snares on it and the green one ended up sounding better. It could have been the acoustics in the garage or because the green one doesnt have that little cap on top of it.
Nathan #truth! Not to beat the Lars drum thing to death, but the songs on St. Anger weren’t terrible. I ripped the audio off the DVD of them practicing and it was very listenable. I haven’t listened to the actual CD in probably 13-14 years. If you have that DVD that came with the CD I recommend ripping the audio and giving the songs a chance.
Great video, definitely worth the subscription! Would it be possible for you guys to make a sequel to this video, where you _literally_ make drums out of junk, as in, screw a bunch of lugs on a few buckets and turn them into a real shell set, or make octobans out of PVC pipes?
I like the cardboard box kit sound more but good on the both of you guys to try something different. Love both of your channels. Thanks again. Keep on experimenting
I started drumming in 2015 and pretty much immediately got into yours and his stuff, among other drum channels. It's nice you guys are collabing and forming a cool community
You know, it really puts it into perspective that we just smack of stuff that we’ve designed to sound nicer than random stuff, but it’s the same exact thing. There probably exists a piece of junk that sounds decent for each part of a kit out there somewhere haha
Collaborations like this video as well as the one with 'Sounds Like a Drum' are a great idea.. A new community has come from this platform for which I am truly grateful.. Drum on drummers.
Great stuff guys, this and the box drum kit seemed like lots of fun. You guys keep up the great work. The content on both of your channels is addictive stuff.
My band did this too once because the practicing room in my basement was too packed to accommodate a real bass drum xD micd it up and the sound was actually decent after some eqing. I have a 15 inch subwoofer though so that's another one of the reasons I actually got some sound out of the trash can
Brings back memories for me. When I was on the drum team for the Oklahoma City Thunder, we played on buckets at home games and special events. That wasn't the only thing. Tables, the floor, trash can lids and those big trash bins with the wheels. I tell ya, that was the first time in my entire life I ever performed center court in front of a live audience of more then 18,000 people! Not very many drummers can say they've done that. It was awesome!!!
I actually did this in high school for my senior project. I recorded and wrote a song, but I didn't have drums or a drummer. So I bought drum sticks and walked around the house smacking things and pieced together a set. I had a steamer taped to a box for a snare, a big foam ottoman for a bass, a bottle, and a large can for hihat sounds... Worked good enough.
Another great video! Not quite the result I was half expecting, but sterling effort! David I’ve watched so many of your videos over the years and I’ve just realised you sound like Hank from king of the hill... for what it’s worth, I’m probably going to enjoy them more now :D
Pringles for small toms and Maxwell house and Folgers containers for toms.Large ice cream containers for other toms ,like a floor tom or a 14-15 inch tom.
I work at UPS loading air cargo cans, and one day when I stepped away from my chute, the conveyor on the cat walk above my station had dropped a 4x4 inch aluminum panel right where I was standing, so I took this death square and made it a Lil bell.
We also made a drum kit out of boxes on Stephen's channel. Check it out and let us know which one you liked better! ua-cam.com/video/A_mINX4N9jg/v-deo.html

rdavidr a 22” kick head fits perfectly on the Brute™️ garbage can.
Next time you make a snare out of a bucket lid, try taping a yoghurt container with with bolts or small screws, or something similar to the bottom. Would probably get more “snare” effect than the real snare ;)
Did you reinforce the sides or do cutouts? I'll check it out, just guessing beforehand...
rdavidr build a drum set with only snares
We’ve got to get real jobs one of these days David.
we should have drilled holes in it.
"Hole-y rusted metal, Batman!"
Why not use the white lid from earlier as a snare? Better response and sound and rebound
We compared the 2 when we put the snares on it and the green one ended up sounding better. It could have been the acoustics in the garage or because the green one doesnt have that little cap on top of it.
rdavidr gotcha
6:33 it sounds like the beat dropped with him saying “that’s ridiculous”
That sounds really cool. Thanks for pointing out that :p
Lars st anger snare sound revealed
Daniel Shamma it was just time to show the world how that snare sound came about.
Naw, this snare sounds way better than Lars’ did on St. Anger.
Kinda the opposite though. this one has no depth and his was all ringy and undampened. He might have been better off with this one lol
Nathan #truth!

No that’s a metal trash can lid
“Extra dry rust ride”...I think you’re onto something there Dave!🤘🏻🤘🏻
just wait until I pitch it to Meinl
@@rdavidr had to be meinl
You should do a reverse junk kit. Take your drum set and just throw it in the trash. Use the bass drum as your trash can and your cymbal as the lid.
alan duncan Alan, you my friend, are a genius.
Stephen Taylor 😂
@@StephenTaylorDrums I learn from the master. :)
BEST!!
😊😂🤣🤣
Lol why does that Sherwin Williams bucket sound better than my actual rack tom?
Because we at Sherwin Williams strive to provide the best experience and service for all our valued customers.
Ben moore is better
Sounds like trash.
Calm down. It’s a joke.
But it is TRASH at real
One mans trash, is another mans instrument. ROFL! !
It's for trash metal.
Damn you beat me. I posted and then read your post dude 😂
It's like watching two cavemen discover rhythm for the first time

The ultimate embodiment of "drummers must drum on everything"
Love the Tetanus series Ride Cymbal!!!!!!
Just dont do a cymbal choke, and you'll be just fine.
That kick honestly sounds pretty damn good! Also I knew a band once that toured with an old suitcase as a kick. :)
You should rename this “Two bearded cavemen walk around and hit things with drumsticks”
It sounds so cool, especially the 'toms' and the 'ride'
5:23 the most badass bucket playing
Dig the shovel.
LOL
Your trash can kick sounds better than my actual kick...
Honestly
The trash can kick actually sounds amazing though.
the trash can kick sounds better than mine because i don’t have one
My kick that I don’t have is honestly amazing
them hitting things and then being like "ohh" "hmm" "yup" is some authentic drummer energy
This is cool you are a big inspiration to me and I really appreciate you doing this to inspire people
How cool from two of my fav drummers out there. This is how many learn to play. Yes, You can always play the drums !!! A Salute !!!

6:34 This is ridiculous and then a nice hip-hop beat .. Lol, you guys are dope
Dirty Dave back at it again
I started drumming in 2015 and pretty much immediately got into yours and his stuff, among other drum channels. It's nice you guys are collabing and forming a cool community
I really like the rim strike on that orange bucket. It's got a very satisfying clack I could easily imagine being used in a song.

That shovel seriously sounds good! I'd actually use that on my kit tbh
Have to admit. One of THE Best home made kits I have ever heard!!

Yaw den done it now. I love both of your channels. You guys are complete hams. Lol . Keep it up.
Great video rdavidr! I just wanted to let you know that you're my favorite youtube drummer.
too bad he didn't use a clorox bottle.

Really like this
I have been searching for related topics for a long time
It is quite useful to be adopted in my music course teaching
Thank you !
For a snare I use an old maple sap bucket with the lid makes a cool sound. Worth a try!
I want to hear this drum kit mixed to sound as similar to a real drum kit as possible
This is why I love your channel
I've actually used a trash can like that as a kick before...

The bang on it till it sounds good methed. Gotta love it.
No joke... I was feeling that 1st groove Stephen found on the shovel and angle iron.

Got a lot of laughs out of this one. Great job guys 😂
This is my "bucket list" drum kit
Modern drum kit was invented in 1920.
The people in 1919:
😂😂😂
You know, I firmly believe every great drummer has a dad bod. These two are no exception!
your snare sounds like a double snare on marching band..you guys nailed it
I have a great diy for you... I use a strip of toolbox liner pad under my drum rack clamps... no more slipping!!!
the grunts of agreement was my favorite part
I actually did this in high school for my senior project. I recorded and wrote a song, but I didn't have drums or a drummer. Stephen killing the bossanova on the shovel is pure poetry though! 😭
When the electric kit at guitar center is on some wacky setting
I really like the pencil tapping type theme.

1:41 thats some awsome reverb chamber he's got there.
a good start for industrial music
Mic it up and it will sound amazing 😂 mics do magic
Not bad! I still like the box kick drum
I put strings on a an old push broom and jammed along with you. We rocked.
